@lestrange 3rd Year, October Phil stood on his tippy toes to reach the top of the shelf where the advanced supplies were kept. He guessed they put them at the top so the first years couldn't reach them, they were after all for the 6th and 7th years. But he needed some of those for his new species of plant he was trying to cultivate. Besides, his dad was the Herbology professor, what would he do? Tell Phil to stop being passionate about his passion? He finally got the jar down, a dangerous fertilizer that would burn his hands if he touched it. But Phil knew better than that, after all he had been using the stuff since he was 8 at home. He spread out his notes and diagrams on the table, luckily it was later in the afternoon, so there wasn't anyone here. His dad was in his office, preparing lessons for the next day. This was normally when people could come in and get help, but no one actually took advantage of the opportunity. That made this the perfect time for Phil to work on some of his projects. Honestly, he should be in the 7th year herbology class with the amount of knowledge he had ab out plants, but it would mess up his schedule. Besides, going over the basics would help him learn them even better. (Bonus: Young Phil)

Okay, so herbology wasn't Andy's strong suit. So what? She was good at everything else... mostly. She was a great student. She just had trouble understanding living things. Humans and plants alike. She was frustrated that it wasn't a science like most other things were. That she actually had to try and communicate and understand how it was feeling. What a load of bologna.
But, even thirteen year old Andromeda Lestrange had to admit when she was defeated. So, she made her way to the Greenhouses to ask Professor Longbottom for help. He had always been really helpful, which had always made Andy a little uncomfortable. An adult being so nice to her.
When she arrived at the Greenhouse, however, she saw none other than Philip, the Professors son. She'd have to pass by him to get to the Professors office... she sighed, folding her arms over her chest and walking up to him, a grimace on her face. "Is your dad here?"

@lestrange Phil had just leaned down to write some of his observations about his growing plants when the door of the greenhouse opened. He immediately shielded his little sprouts from the wind the open door let in. He glared at the person who was now shutting the door, didn't they know better? His glare quickly dissipated. Andromeda Lestrange, a girl who seemed to lack any real friends and didn't want any. His dad said he should be nicer to people who were mean to him, rather than lash out. Here was a good way to practice. "Yeah, but he's kinda busy right now. Can I help you with something?" he asked, almost hesitantly. He set his quill down and stacked his notes up in a neat pile, just in case she really did want help. Their notes mixing wouldn't help anything.

Phil always talked sweetly with her, and she didn't understand why. Like he didn't care about the way she treated people. That almost annoyed her more. She kept her arms folded over her chest and scoffed at his words, tossing her head so her hair wasn't in her face anymore. "I just needed help with this weeks... what is that you're working on?" she said, leaning forward as she studied the plant beside him. "What is that?" It was easier to look at the plant then at Philips face. His eyes were too... something. There was something in them she'd never seen before, and she wasn't sure if she liked it.
Or maybe she liked it too much.

@lestrange Why was she always so closed off? Her arms folded, her gaze haughty. But, now that he thought of that, she always looked like that. He readied himself for a conversation that was going to drag on. He didn't mind to much, not if he got to talk with Andromeda. She might be rude to him, and everyone, but there was something about her that was just... so intriguing. She flipped her hair and he caught a whiff of her shampoo. It took her suddenly changing the subject to snap him from the little daze he had started to fall in. She wanted to know about his plant? A little balloon of hope swelled in his chest. "Oh, just a little experiment I am working on." he looked back to the plant, immediately picking up some tiny pruning shears and clipping off some of the too big leaves. "It is actually growing a lot better than I thought it would." He said, almost absently his attention now caught on the small pot. She leaned down next to him to investigate it closer. Eyes darting over to her, he smiled, maybe he could find a friend in Andromeda Lestrange.

She saw that swelling, something making him stand up a little straighter and his smile grow slightly. It may have been in her imagination, but she could see something there. She wasn't normally one for analyzing people... but this kid was pretty easy to read. She wondered if he knew that. He was doing an experiment, he said, and she took a step forward to see what he was doing. She nodded slowly, continuing to lean toward the plant. "That's all well and good Philip but I asked what it was as well," she said firmly, turning her face toward his. But, when she did, he was looking at her as well and he had that smile on his face. She felt her own lip start to tug upward and she quickly leaned back, making sure her arms were still folded, and replaced her look of disinterest. There was not way she could be friends with Philip Freaking Longbottom. His family was pretty much second on the list of people she shouldn't be talking to.

@lestrange Did she just smile at him? She did! Phil hid his satisfaction. He, Philip Carson Longbottom had just made Andromeda Lestrange smile. He should win an award. True she wasn't anymore, not with her posture and body language wary. But he had not imagined it. Wait til Ranger heard about this! "You can call me Phil." he said, still not answering her question. He was sort of lost in her eyes. "That is what my friends call me, and my parents, but you should to. Philip is too formal,. Seriously. Besides, Phil just feels better, you know?" he blushed a little as he realized he was rambling. The end of his sentence trailed off and he turned away from her, focus back on his plant. "It is called Venenum Bonsai." He said, trying to distract from his embarassment. "It is a slightly poisonus bonsai tree. But I am trying to get it to secrete this specific type of poison that can be used in healing potions, it is pretty rare and there aren't many plants that make it. I figured if I could make it, it would help a lot of people. Besides, if you have the chance to do something good, you should take it." He didn't mind so much about this rambling, he cared too much about what he was doing. He looked back up at her, eyes locking on hers. What would she think of his crazy passion?

Phil. Well, that was something she wasn't going to do. At least not right now. She nodded at his words, though, her eyes stuck in his. He said friends, that's what his friends called him. She blushed too, as he neared the end of that sentence, realizing what he was saying. Was he saying he wanted to be... friends? She cleared her throat, "okay," she said in a small voice, but that was all she managed to get out.
Then he started to talk about the plant, explaining what it was. She nodded as he mentioned healing and how if you had the chance to do something good you should take it. She'd never heard anyone say that before. At least not someone her own age. Sure, grown ups who idn't have anything better to say but... not like this. "It's.. pretty," she commented, nodding toward the plant but not taking her eyes off his. "You seem to know a lot about plants, Ph-Phil."

@lestrange His name sounded really good when she said it. Phil. He smiled, his balloon as large as it could get. Her saying his name in addition to her blush... he couldn't help but smile. "I love plants. My brother thinks I'm crazy, well most of my friends do. That is until they need help on their homework. Speaking of which... Did you want some help? Maybe I could help you..." he suggested hesitantly, pushing his tree to the side and gesturing to the table where she could set her things. He had already done the entire week's homework for Herbology, he had done it the day they got it. It had been easy, but enjoyable. But that was most of his classwork that had to do with plants. Potions was slightly challenging for him, but nothing like charms. Those darn spells were the worst. He could not seem to figure them out no matter how much he practiced.

That smile became even large and she couldn't help but smile back a little, but it made her cheeks ache slightly. She wasn't used to doing that. After he spoke, asking if she wanted help, she bit her lip, hesitating. He seemed just as apt as his father, or at least more competent at this then she was. She finally nodded, reaching into her bag at her side to pull out the paper information on what they were working on in class. "Yeah... this stuff we're doing for class. I just, I don't get it," she said slowly, feeling her defenses slowly creeping back into place as she held it out to him. "I don't understand how to make a plant live that doesn't require water or sun. What does it need?" she asked, looking down at the papers, not up at him. HIs eyes were too... scary?

@lestrange There it was. A smile. Little, but definitely there. It was beautiful. It quickly disappeared, but Phil locked the image of it in his mind, pretty sure he was going to need to remember that a little later when she wasn't being quite so nice. And maybe right before he went to sleep. Papers rustled, derailing his train of thought. She pulled them out of her bag and set them on the table, explaining that she didn't get it. As she talked her voice became a little harder, and he cocked his head slightly, wondering what had changed from just a few moments before. He decided to not mention it. Just focus on the work. So he looked down at the paper. "Oh! Right, well the plants here are specifically fungus, they like the dark and there are, I think, 7 varieties that shrivel and die when they touch water. They thrive on sucking the life out of other plants, well 3 of them do, I am not sure about the other 4, but that doesn't really matter because we are only learning about those three anyway. But, basically they just need to be with other plants cause, I guess you could say they are cannibalistic, so they get all the nutrients they need from other plants. Does that make sense?" He asked, his hand settling down onto the table after gesturing wildly while speaking. He looked at her expectantly, eyebrows raised, she got it now, right?

Andy listened as he started to explain the fungus, gross, and leaned toward the table as he went on. He said a lot but he seemed to know exactly what he was talking about. In fact, it made perfect sense now, which meant she had no more need of him. She looked up at him when he finished, setting her own hands down on the table right beside his. "That... makes sense. Like a parasite, almost," she said slowly. Her eyes locked with his and for a few short moments she had forgotten what they were talking about. Those eyes were like the color of the sky reflected in the sea. She felt that tug at the corner of her lips again...
But then she stood up straight, gathered her papers, and shoved them back in her bag. "Thank you, Philip. Uh, Phil," Uh!? Ladies don't say 'Uh'. She cleared her throat and headed for the door, but not before turning around in the doorway and looking back at him. "See you in class," then she was out that door so fast it was almost like she was running.
In fact, she almost started running back to the castle. Her heart was pounding loud enough that she needed to justify it somehow. Maybe she was ill.

@lestrange She seemed to understand what he had said, which was impressive. He was aware that he had a tendancy to ramble off random herbology facts, something Ranger never ceased to tell him. Or Jude for that matter. He smiled at her, then her eyes met his. And they stayed there. Wow, he had thought he knew what beauty was. Until this moment, everything else had been a faded old picture. Her lip twitched and his heart swelled as he thought he might get to see another Andromeda smile. Andy stood up and gather her papers, indicating the moment, if that was what it was, was over. But Phil was stuck in that moment and he watched her go, waving briefly at her as she left. He must have breathed in some crazy pollen or something, his mind was spinning. Oh, he was going to see her in class. He would make sure of it. END so beautiful
