The judges were lined up in their seats, overlooking the entryway into the maze. The three champions had just been brought out to the cheers of hundreds of spectators. They—in theory, at least—had no foreknowledge of the maze's traps and dangers, and were only just now seeing it. Considering the maze covered an entire section of one of the mountains that surrounded Hogwarts, they could all be proud if they had successfully managed to keep it hidden. Neville pressed his wand to his throat, magically magnifying his voice. “Welcome, everyone, to the first task of the Triwizard Tournament!”
“Now, as I'm sure everyone can see, the first task is a maze. Within the maze, we have set up a number of obstacles for the champions to overcome. The goal for this task is to make it through the maze before the other champions. You will find a wide variety of challenges within the maze, designed to test the breadth and depth of your magical knowledge. Your physical fitness will also be tested—as the maze is on a mountainside, the terrain is steep and rocky, and not at all favorable to moving quickly while maintaining balance.”
“Should you end up in a situation beyond your control, use your wand to send up red sparks. We have half a dozen Aurors and teachers on standby with broomsticks, and they will come to you immediately if you require aid. This will, of course, also forfeit the task.”He turned back to the crowd now. “Each Champion has been allotted the use of their wand and a single potion of their choice. They will begin at the same time, and will be scored based on how quickly they get through the maze, both against each others' times and against the general difficulty of the maze itself. During the maze, Champions are expressly forbidden from attacking one another, and from being aided or hindered from the outside. Anyone who breaks this rule will regret it.”He moved the three champions up to stand just behind a line on the ground, about ten feet from the entrance to the maze. “Now, Champions, prepare yourselves. The first task begins at the sound of the cannon.”@emile @jill6 @annelise [This thread is entirely for the IC posts for the three Champions, based on the OoC thread and following Suzie's clues and instructions. | H ere it was. The first task. The first victory. Hopefully. The pre-game jitters always got to him. It wasn’t that he was nervous about it, more that his adrenaline was surging through him uncontrollably. Everything he had studied was possibly going to be of use in these tasks, and from what it looked like, this first one was a maze. Couldn’t they have come up with something a little more original? Hogwarts had a maze the last time they held it too. He certainly had counted it out as a possibility. The only thing that had been directed to him was to bring a wand, a potion of his choice, and himself. All three were at the location now, and he wanted to get started. It was boring standing around like this. Émile half-listened as the Hogwarts headmaster droned on and on about the maze. Obstacles this, obstacles that. Apparently they were going up the side of a mountain too. How fun. There was also something about if they needed help, they could forfeit, but that wasn’t going to happen. The only thing that was going to stop him from winning was by getting killed, which was hopefully reserved until after he was crowned the Triwizard champion. Émile rolled his eyes as the headmaster continued talking, wishing the man would shut up already and let them proceed with the task. They didn’t have all day to sit here and listen to him. Finally, something about a cannon going off meaning that was the start reached his ears, and almost immediately after, an actual cannon went off. Looking around to see if that was supposed to happen, Émile took that as his cue and rushed into the maze. Jogging for a short period of time, he didn’t encounter anything. Eventually coming to a split path, he chose left and continued his run. Nothing so far. This was boring. (TLDR; Nothing happened) |

@annelise , @emile <3 The first task was finally here. It was happening today, in only a few minutes in fact, and Elias was strangely calm. He had expected to nervous and jittery and wide eyed. But here he was, standing next to his other two competitors, listening to the Headmaster, and calm as could be. Elias' wand was in his back pocket, and his potion was in his robes. His eyes stayed resting on the Headmaster, repeating the words in his head. A maze. Okay, that shouldn't be too difficult but it was most likely going to be. Elias had studied the past tasks for a long time, but that doesn't mean that everything that was in the prior maze would be in this one. At least he hoped not; visiting good old Voldemort was not on his agenda.
A canon would sou- there it was. His calm demeanor immediately turned serious, and Elias watched as Emile ran into the maze entrance and he rose an eyebrow. Taking his wand out of his pocket Elias marched in, his eyes shooting every which way. He kept his fast pace of walking and continued to go straight where he came to a stop, either to go left or right. Elias took a deep breath and immediately turned to his left. This is where he began to jog, but he couldn't find anything. Whether that was good or bad, he had yet to find out.

Anna could hardly believe how calm she felt. What was this?! For the past two weeks she'd been worrying about the tournament, worrying about what she was going to have to do and now ... now she felt nothing but calm. And that was before she found out it was a maze too. It was amazing how relaxed she felt about the whole situation.
When they came out in front of everyone Anna couldn't keep herself from smiling at all the cheering. Of course, she knew it wasn't all for her, but it was a nice feeling, being cheered for. She listened to Professor Longbottom carefully. It sounded like this was pretty similar to Uncle Harry's last task ... except it was on a mountain, and it was her first task. As he described what they should do if things got out of their control, Anna felt a small shiver run up her spine, but she shook her head and focused on what Professor Longbottom was saying instead. She was calm. She wasn't going to let precautionary measures freak her out. She could do this! For the first time since her name was pulled out of the Goblet of Fire, she actually felt like a champion, like this was achievable. That was a good thing.
Once the sound of the cannon went off, Emile was gone, running into the maze with Elias not too far behind him. Anna decided to take up the rear, not particularly in a hurry, though that was one of the objects of the whole thing: speed. Still, it wasn't like this was an ordinary maze. It was probably wiser to conserve her strength, since she would be going up the side of a mountain.
It wasn't long before both of the boys were out of her line of sight, which was a good thing. Anna didn't want to be following either of them, or at least having them think that she was following them. Eventually she came to a fork in the road and Anna decided to turn right. Hopefully she wouldn't run into one of the boys. She walked down the path calmly, but prepared. Her wand was out and Anna felt like she was hyper aware of everything happening around her.
The ground was still pretty level, which was nice, but something was wrong. Anna could feel it. Her eyes narrowed as she looked around herself, slowing her steps to make herself be more careful. Her heart was pounding and she felt the adrenaline rush through her system. She jumped and gave a small yelp when a spider skittered across her path. "Get a grip on yourself, Anna. It's just a spider." She shook her head, annoyed slightly at herself when she heard something rumble behind her. Anna spun around to see a huge acromantula digging its way up from under the ground. Anna stared, her thoughts racing through different scenarios of what she should do to counter this.
She screeched when she felt something wrap itself tightly around her legs. While she'd been focused on the one acromantula- a diversion- another had materialized behind her and shot thick strands of its silk around her ankles. Disgusted by the unexpected sensation and trying to discover what caused it, Anna turned around and fell to the ground from the sudden movement, forgetting that her ankles weren't free as they normally were. Her mouth fell open when she saw not only one acromantula, but two in front of her.
Before she could move a muscle, the two acromantula rushed to her and started wrapping her in a silky cocoon. One of them picked her up, spinning her while the other seemed to be focused on wrapping her tightly in the web. Anna could only assume that the sharp tingling sensations of pain on her legs and arms were caused by the acromantula's pincers as it worked to encase her with its silk, despite her awkward position. Her wand arm was crossing her body, wand pointed out to the left while her left elbow was awkwardly behind her back, where it had been when she tried to break her fall with it. She could hardly believe the speed with which they worked. After only moments, a thin layer of silk had her covered from head to toe. Her mind raced as she tried to think of something to help her. "Confundo, reducto, stupify, immobulus," nothing yet. She needed something that would get her out of this.
Then finally the spell came to her and she quickly formulated a plan. It was a good thing she'd practiced non-verbal spells because her face was also covered by the web. She couldn't talk if she wanted to. "Diffindo," she thought, feeling reassured when she felt the strands around her body start loosening. She twisted her wand to point behind her so she could cut the strands that the acromantulas were now depending on to keep her suspended. When the weight of her body became too much, it tore through the rest of the threads and Anna fell to the ground with a thud, free from the silky prison.
"Arania Exumai!" She shouted twice, pointing her wand at both of the acromantulas desperately before they could begin wrapping her once more. As she hoped, the acromantulas were blasted a short distance away. They weren't dead though, so she had to move fast. Anna jumped to her feet, ignoring her injuries as she raced away from the scene, trying to put as much space between herself and the acromantulas as possible. All thoughts of conserving energy were gone now. She was on full survival mode.

It wasn't long after she got away from the acromantulas that Anna realized she was at a dead end. A deep feeling of dread entered her stomach, but she'd wasted enough time already. Anna turned around and started jogging back in the other direction, toward the place where she met the acromantulas the first time. When she got close to the area where she had her previous encounter, she slowed down to a sort of careful speed-walk, looking carefully from side to side as she moved as quickly as she dared. Her eyes saw the cocoon on the ground a short distance away, the one she'd been wrapped in and she looked away quickly. She did not want to think about that right now. Anna also didn't want to have another run-in with the acromantulas, but if that was going to happen, she was not going to be caught unawares again. If she learned anything from her first while spent in the maze, it was that she needed to be on her toes, prepared for anything to happen.
To her relief, she made it past that area without another encounter, or even a hint of the acromantulas. Before long, Anna was back to the original path and turned right onto it. Hopefully the next turn she took wouldn't be another dead end. She knew she'd lost ground. Unless Emile and Elias ran into something that took them quite a bit of time, she was definitely going to be behind them. She started to jog slowly, hoping that her next turn would be more successful than her first one had been.

T his was it? Hogwarts was putting on an extremely disappointing first task so far. He had expected a grand show of all of it, but so far all they had given him was a year of school off, a cup that lit on fire, a maze that was apparently supposed to be some difficult task, and a stupid dance in December. Sure, he planned on making the most out of the last thing on that list, but he was here to compete, not run up a mountain faster than wolf-man could. The Hogwarts girl, he had resigned to the fact that there was no reason to remember it, had disappeared a long time ago. She probably turned the other way, thinking she’d be cool and break from the crowd. Since she hadn’t appeared in front of him yet and red sparks hadn’t been shot in the air, it was safe to assumed she was either still running the wrong way, was stuck or doubled back to go this way, or had died already. This was for only the best of the best, and where she fit in with him and wolfy was hard to tell. Hogwarts was inept at making a task that actually worked correctly, so the same could be said about their champion. If they wanted him and the other one to run a marathon up a mountain, they should have just done that instead. It would have been more interesting anyways. Finally, another split appeared. Émile felt a surge of adrenaline kick through his body again. Maybe this time he’d actually run into an obstacle or a creature of sorts, something to get his blood moving. Left or right? Wishing with all his might, Émile turned right. Left had already given him this lead, it wouldn’t hurt to go in the opposite direction for a little bit. Quickly looking back, he was sure he spotted Greyback somewhere in his trail of dust. No matter, if the boy was smart he’d branch off a different way instead of trying to make Émile do all the work for him. That would be a pointless victory for Durmstrang. Another straight line through the maze. Moving this much in one direction each turn was starting to get annoying again. He needed to keep his head straight though. Anything could jump out at him the next time he turned, and getting frustrated over the lack of activity on his end wouldn’t help him one bit. Up ahead he could see what looked to be another split. There was no telling what could be up there, so he pulled out his wand and made sure the potion of fire-protection was at the ready if necessary. This had been boring thus far, but he had a feeling that it was just getting started. Hopefully Hogwarts would bring something worthwhile to the table. Émile deserved to walk all over their pathetic task every chance he got. (TLDR; Nothing happened again -whistles-)

H aving his wand out for his next right turn was not only a good idea, it also had him thinking intently on what to do. Up ahead, there was a tree in the middle of the path. Right there, in the middle. Taking up the entire path between the maze walls. Easing up his jog to a slow walk, Émile observed the tree. His first thought was that it was like the Whomping Willow that sat on Hogwarts grounds, the thing that wildly swung around at anything and everything that managed to get close to it. For whatever reason it didn’t look the same, but there would probably be a simple solution to getting past it: stunning. Should it decide to take a couple whacks at him, a stun spell would easily freeze it up. Taking a few more steps closer, he pointed his wand out and shot a stun spell at the tree. Nothing happened. Émile cocked his head to one side as he tried to figure out what exactly went on. The spell looked like it had hit the tree, yet at the same time he could tell that it didn’t. There was no way that he had missed either. Stepping a few feet closer to see if it would react to him being nearby, something came flying back out at him. Luckily seeing it launch out of the tree, he dove to the side, landing on the ground as it hit exactly where he had just been standing. What the hell was this thing? Getting back to his feet quickly, Émile pointed his wand at the tree again. If it was going to fight, he might as well end it right here. “Incendio!” A burst of fire shot from his wand this time, hitting the tree square in the trunk. He expected it to engulf in flames, like normal trees do. Instead they went right into it. That’s not at all how trees were supposed to work. Before he could get closer again, the flames were shooting back right at him. Jumping to the side like he had before, the flames barely missed him, a few embers splashing off the ground and hitting his clothes. Quickly brushing them off as he moved away from the pile of fire near him, Émile started to understand what was going on here. This wasn’t a Whomping Willow at all. It was something that didn’t like him shooting spells at it. That was way better than walking in a straight line like he had been doing. Putting his wand in his pocket again, he looked the tree over again. It was big, enough to take up the whole path, but with a little athleticism he could try and climb over it. That was the only thing he could do other than turning back and trying a different direction. Doing that would probably put him behind the other two. He had a pretty good run so far, now wasn’t the time to throw that all away. Turning around to get a better lead up, Émile took a deep breath and prepared himself. He had to do this in one go. Hopefully it wouldn’t shoot any more spells out at him or try to swat him away while he climbed it. That was the last thing he wanted to happen. Clearing his mind, he ran full force at the tree making sure to pay attention to its movements as he got closer. For some reason, as he got right up to it, an unbearable weighted feeling seemed to hit him. It wasn’t nerves or dread, at least he didn’t think it was, but he didn’t like it. Scaling the tree as fast as he could, Émile could feel his energy being drained. He didn’t think climbing a tree would be that exhausting but apparently it was. Tumbling over a branch that seemed to give him the other side of the path, he did his best to make it down to the ground without doing too much damage to himself. Finally he felt his feet touch ground. Scrambling away from the tree as fast as he could, he made some distance before sitting on the ground to rest. He needed to take a short break before continuing. Whatever that thing was, he didn’t like it, and definitely didn’t want to encounter it again. Who knew climbing a magical tree of sorts would be considered a task in the tournament? This was absurd. [OOC: Hoping that was okay SUZIE ] (TLDR; Managed to climb over a wandeater willow without being sapped completely of all magical power. He's da best)

@annelise , @emile <3 As Elias continued on down the straight path, he came to another fork and he took a deep breath. So far, picking which way to go had become the hardest part of this damn maze, and not anything that actually required him to use his wand. However, he chose right. And that right path, whatever may or may not be on it, gave him a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He wasn't sure what it was, but he started running straight only to come to another fork in the road. He groaned and moved forward. Elias couldn't see down either path, unfortunately, so it was just chance for him. Swallowing hard, he grabbed his wand in his left hand and looked up. The sky was a dark color, mostly grey, no sunlight was seen. This mountain maze was not going to kill him, and he was going to get out of it.
Right. He went right again. Each time Elias took a turn, he immediately had a feeling of regret right after. This regret was not something he was used to, not something he was very familiar with feeling, and his breathing quickened rapidly as he walked feverishly up the mountain of this maze. He was looking left and right, waiting to see when he would come to another fork. But he didn't. His eyes went from the left side of him, to in front of him, and he felt his breath just stop. A pair of eyes were staring at him, and there wasn't just one pair of eyes. There was three pairs of eyes. Three, big, disgusting eyes. Elias' grip tightened on his wand, and his mind immediately went blank with fear. Flesh eating slugs. He had learned about them, he knew what would get rid of them. But the fear overtook him, and Elias didn't move. And while he didn't move, they...they came for him. They were so big. The size of him, one of them even standing taller than he. His breathing continued, and this time he felt like he was hyperventilating. Elias quickly held up his wand, his whole arm shaking, pointing it at them. "No!"
As soon as they were close enough, his eyes shut tightly. Elias was no longer on his feet. He was flat on his back, the slugs swarming over him and around him, and then he felt it. He felt the pain, the gruesome, horrific pain of the bite. The slugs were eating him. The pain ran through his body, and he felt like he was on fire. Elias couldn't tell where they had bit him, it just hurt everywhere. The scream that erupted from his mouth was one he had only heard once before...his ninth birthday. The day his father broke in and bit him. His scream echoed in his ears, and Elias felt himself coming in and out of consciousness.
Elias took a deep breath, realizing his wand was still in his pocket. His wand. Finally, he opened his eyes and looked into the eyes of one of the slugs. Weakly and quietly, he held up his wand, and spoke. "Confringo." The slugs stopped biting, they stopped eating his skin and blood. Instead, they exploded on the spot. Bits and pieces of them were everywhere, and Elias stayed on the ground.
He turned his head to the right, staring at the vines of the maze. All Elias could feel were the tears falling down his cheeks.

A fter taking a short break, something Émile very rarely needed, he finally decided to continue on his adventure through the maze. Standing up, he stared back at the tree he had just climbed over. There was something extremely sinister about it that he felt he had managed to get past with barely any harm done to him. He didn’t want to worry about the other two champions, but there was a nagging thought that if either of them came across that tree, that would spell their end in the task. He was lucky, they might not be. Shaking those thoughts out of his head, he continued down the path that the tree had blocked from his sightline earlier. It wasn’t much longer before he came to another fork in the road. Of course it would split again. It was silly to think that this maze was going to make sense at all. For all he knew, it was constantly changing around the champions as they made their way through it. Turning left, a blast of cold air hit him directly in the face. As far as he could tell, there really wasn’t anything else up ahead, so it was safe to say that this was simply an environmental aspect to the task, similar to how the tree was. Pulling his light jacket around his head, he stuck his wand hand into his pocket to keep it from getting cold. His non-dominant right hand however, was used to pull the jacket further over his face to keep the freezing cold from blasting him in the face. If anything, this obstacle was more of an annoyance than anything daunting. Pushing on through the cold, he eventually made it to the next split path. The cold had died down now, so he let his jacket drop back around his shoulders. While his left hand was perfectly fine, his right hand, the one that had been protecting his face, was getting a stabbing numb feeling. He hadn’t noticed it while he was walking, but it was definitely becoming an issue now. Unfortunately he couldn’t waste the time to try and fix it, and decided to make his next choice of direction. If he moved fast enough, he’d get to the end and have it fixed up by one of the nurses on hand. (TLDR; Walked through an area covered with a freezing spell. His right hand became frozen for a good amount of time)

@annelise , @emile <3 Elias took a deep breath, but began coughing. The pain was gone, he now just felt numb. Like he couldn't feel much of his body, which wasn't shocking. He had just been crawled over by extremely heavy slugs, and had parts of his body eaten. Elias swallowed hard, blinking the tears away from his face. He was now covered in dirt, blood, and slug guts. It was actually pretty disgusting, but that wasn't what he was concerned with right now. He needed to make sure he could continue on, so he racked his brain for spells that he could use to make sure he could heal himself enough to go throughout the rest of the maze.
Two came to mind, two that would help him. Elias grabbed his wand and spoke quietly. "Vulnera Sanentur." His face scrunched up in pain and he groaned loudly as the places he was bit stretched the skin and pulled them back. This wasn't doing much for him, as yes, the bleeding now stopped, but the amount of pain was still there, if not worse from the bite. But all Elias knew was that he was no longer bleeding, and that is what was important. He sat up and coughed as dirt got into his mouth. Elias wiped his face and attempted to stand up, but the pain in his ankle was overbearing. It had to be broken or sprained, which one he did not know. But he couldn't fix it, he didn't know how or remember what the spell was and he didn't want to make it worse. "Ferula." A small splint appeared on his ankle, and he knew he'd have to hobble. The pain would become numb after awhile, at least so he hoped.
Elias stood up and made sure his weight was resting on his right leg. He began walking forward, looking disgustedly at the remnants of the slugs. He shook his head and ended up at another fork. He swore to himself and shut his eyes, breathing deeply. He had to get out of here, and he knew he would. He would just do so. Elias went right. Thankfully, right was the best choice. He continued hobbling down the maze, hoping he was close to the end.

After walking for a while, Anna saw something ahead of her on the path and slowed down. She didn't want to be over-zealous and run into another bad situation without being ready for it. She squinted a little and almost laughed when she realized what it was. She saw two figures ahead of her and it didn't take a second glance to recognize both Emile and Elias. They weren't particularly close to one another, but she did see Emile take a turn to the right. She continued walking, surprised by this interesting turn of events. They were both still a ways in front of her, but it was amazing that she could see them after all that had happened to her. She also watched Elias turn right, so when she came to the fork in the road, she decided to go left so she could face her own challenges. That and she'd rather not run into them while trying to make it through the maze as quickly as she could. She walked for what seemed like miles, but probably wasn't. The incline was starting to get to her and exhaust her already worn out muscles. She hadn't realized how much her fight with the acromantulas had taken out of her. The cuts on her arms and legs were still tingling and bleeding a little bit, but not enough to cause any alarm, so she decided to ignore them for the time being. Besides, with all the adrenaline in her system, she hardly recognized that she was bleeding. After a while there was another split in the path. Anna seriously considered continuing on the path she was already on because it had been safe so far and she couldn't see anything coming up. But then her inner Gryffindor came out and she turned right, ready to try something different and hopefully interesting, though she'd prefer not to get hurt this time. Anna paused and started moving more slowly when she saw something big blocking the pathway. From a distance, she couldn't tell what it was, but when she drew a little nearer, she stared. The good news? Whatever it was was asleep, lying beside a tree the size of the Whomping Willow. The bad news? If it woke up, she would probably be in big trouble. It was gigantic! The creature was the size of a triple-decker bus and from what she could see it had a long, dangerous-looking horn and a very thick, rope-like tail. Anna breathed a sigh of relief, glad that it wasn't awake and ready to attack her. She had no doubt that it would be a very difficult creature to defeat, if the need arose. Edging slightly closer, Anna looked around the creature carefully, rolling her eyes when she realized it was blocking every inch of the path. She had to come up with some way to get past it without waking it up, which didn't seem like a particularly easy challenge, but at least it was sleeping. That gave her time to think of a game plan. It only took her about a minute to come up with something that might work. The tree. She had to climb the tree and then jump past the creature somehow. She could do that. Anna was pretty good at climbing trees when she was younger, so that should be no big deal. Taking a deep breath, Anna moved over to the tree as quietly as she could, glad that the thing's body was on the other side. That made it easier for Anna to start climbing the tree. Once she was at the bottom, Anna found a limb nearby and jumped up so she could grab it, using her feet to walk up the trunk and swing her body onto the branch. She smiled to herself a little bit. This was definitely doable. Anna carefully picked out which branch to move onto next and continued the process until she found a branch that ran parallel to the beast. The branch in question was springy but strong enough to hold her weight. Taking a deep breath, she moved out onto a nearby branch and reached over, gripping it carefully as she stepped off the other branch and hung by her arms. Anna slowly started rocking back and forth, the springy wood helping her as she tried to gain enough momentum so she could jump and- hopefully- miss the beast entirely. When Anna was swinging as high as she possibly could, she let go of the branch and took off, soaring for a few short seconds before she felt herself falling toward the ground. Only ... she hadn't made it far enough. Crap. Curling into as small of a ball as possible, she cringed as she landed on the creature, her momentum carrying her off of it and onto the nearby ground. As she was rolling, Anna heard something hiss and felt it nip at her and- not knowing what she was trying to deal with now- she continued her rolling, determined to stay in control. A few seconds later she rose to her feet, taking in her surroundings. Adderstongue covered the ground in between her and the waking beast. She knew all about these. They were small plants that bit like snakes and were poisonous, more a nuisance than anything else. However, maybe she could use this to her advantage. Pulling her wand out of the holster strapped to her leg, Anna pointed at the Adderstongue and muttererd "Incendio." Instantly they burst into flame. Anna breathed a sigh of relief before turning her attention back to the gigantic beast that was now awake and clearly not happy on the other side of the flames. Hopefully they would keep him at bay. Her eyes narrowed as she watched the beast back away from the flames. Good. At least she could be done now. Anna turned and started jogging away- hoping to put as much distance between her and this creature as possible- when she heard a deep roar rumble so loudly that she could feel the earth shake beneath her feet. Spinning around, she felt her jaw drop in horror as the creature charged through the flames. A steely determination took over and Anna's eyes narrowed as she looked at the charging beast, deciding what to do. Her mind was surprisingly calm and Anna lifted her wand, deciding to use a spell that she'd never practiced before. She'd only read and heard about it. "Incarcerous!" She shouted, hoping beyond hope that she could conjure bands strong enough to hold this creature at bay. She breathed out a laugh when it worked! The creature was immobilized, bound by thick cords and Anna could hardly believe she'd done it on the first try. She could feel the creature's fury as it fought against the bindings. She wanted to turn and leave, but something kept Anna from turning her back, which was a good thing because seconds later the creature burst through the bands and roared once more, furious. Anna was shaking, but still determined. She couldn't turn and run, because there was no way she could outrun this beast. Her only hope was to bring it down somehow. As she started moving backwards as quickly as she could, Anna started firing curse after curse in a never-ending string, repeating herself when she couldn't think of any more spells. "Stupify! Confringo! Immobulus! Petrificus Totalus! Bombarda Maxima! Confundo!" Most of her spells just bounced off the creature and she was starting to freak out. This thing's horn was deadly and it was coming straight at her. Still, she continued shouting spells in a last-ditch effort to save herself. "Stupify! Petrificus Totalus! Confundo!" It almost seemed to happen in slow motion. As Anna cried "Petrificus Totalus" the last time, she watched as the light from her wand flew straight into the creatures roaring mouth and it froze mid-step, falling onto its side as a result of its previous momentum. Anna held her breath, waiting to see whether or not the creature would break through this spell as well. After a few seconds, she started taking tentative steps backward, hoping that her spell would hold. After she felt like it held long enough, Anna turned and started running faster than she'd ever run in her life, determined to get as far away as humanly possible. (OOC: Muse song of awesomeness: Requiem for a Tower Hehe totally listened to this while I wrote the whole thing. Also, the creature she was fighting is called an Erumpent.)

R ight. That was the next direction he chose. It was getting monotonous taking turns every couple hundred meters. Plus, the last two hadn’t really faired that well for him. The tree had been a cinch, minus the lack of energy he had after climbing it, but the freezing path he had just come from was starting to get to him a little. His right hand was still stinging, and he was starting to think it could be signs of frostbite. Émile had been cold before, but magical cold was altogether something new for him. He couldn’t waste time to fix it though, so he kept pushing on. That was the only thing to do now. Still observing his hand slightly, Émile didn’t notice that he was walking up on something, or someone else. It wasn’t until he spotted a pair of shoes in front of him that he decided to look up. Was it another champion that had somehow gotten ahead of him or turned around? Half-glancing up, the strangest thing appeared before him. It was him, face, hair, body, everything, yet it didn’t feel like it was at the same time. Staring at it for a solid minute, Émile didn’t make any moves, just observed. This Émile before him was wearing ragged clothes and looked like he had seen better days. None of this made any sense. Deciding it was some illusion or trick, he went to step around the other Émile but was stopped by the other him as he grabbed onto his clothes, begging for some reason. A look of confusion came over his face as he stared at the other him, still trying to figure it out. Reaching into his pockets, he did what he always did when a homeless person was persistent on the street. He tossed a coin at his head, hitting him square in the forehead. While he didn’t care about doing that to muggle beggars, doing it to his other self seemed rather…strange. Other Émile barely reacted, looking at the coin for a second, and then started to claw his way up Émile’s clothes. Unable to fend him off with his right hand, Émile pushed it over and tried to step away, the other him grabbing onto his ankles as he tried to run away. Shaking the other him once again, it started wailing as he walked away. Wailing was an understatement, it was more like it was shrieking, screaming things about money and failing. Then he realized it. This other him, the thing that disgusted him so much, was something he had seen once before. It had been such a trivial matter in class that he had practically ignored the fact that it had turned into him. This wasn’t a clone of him at all. It was a boggart. Turning back around, Émile pulled out his wand. He’d do quick work and put this sorry soul away, or at least long enough that he could continue on. “Sorry to say, but I’ll never be like you. Now kindly go back to the dark little hole you came from, you despicable creature. Riddikulus!” The other Émile continued to crawl on the ground towards him, but as the spell hit it, it slowly disintegrated into dirt. “That was a rather fitting end to him.” He said to himself, a smug look appearing on his face as he turned away from it and headed for the next turn in the maze. (TLDR; Ran into a boggart that was him, but a beggar. It didn't faze him at all as he quickly dealt with it)

@annelise , @emile <3 Eventually, Elias stood back up. He took a deep breath and cringed as he continued walking along the path. Turning right seemed to be one hell of a ride for him, but it also gave him quite a few paths where he was free of any type of danger or creatures. His whole body was in pain, he wished he had chosen a potion that would completely heal him, but then again Elias wasn't sure when he'd use it. He had no clue how long he'd be in this maze for, or what other things he might come across. So, as of right now, the potion he chose would be the best.
Elias went right once more. This path was incredibly long, he felt like he had been walking on it forever. And just as Elias had this thought, he stopped and rose an eyebrow at what lay ahead of him. Tiger lilies. Elias shut his eyes and sighed deeply. Just his luck, right? More things to hurt him. He was only familiar with this flower as his mother enjoyed gardening, and it was quite a dangerous one. It was a large bush of them, and while Elias was sure he'd be able to get rid of them, he wasn't even going to attempt it. There's no way one spell would get rid of this large area of tiger lilies.
"God help me." Elias shut his eyes, and with most of the energy he had left, he just...ran. On his broken ankle, his partially eaten but yet healed body, he ran through the flower bed. And as soon as he got close enough, fire erupted from the flowers. Elias yelled, but as soon as he had gotten in, he was out. He fell to the ground, putting the fire out. His clothes now had burn spots on them, and as he looked at them, he was thankful to see that they most likely would not scar over. Taking out his wand, he groaned at the pain. "Aguamenti." Water shot out of his wand, and he began cleaning himself off now, the dark dried blood slowly coming off, and he also cooled off the burns. They weren't too terrible, and definitely did not hurt as much as his ankle and the rest of his body did. Elias didn't have time to get the rest of the blood off, so he put his wand back in his pocket and stood up as soon as the burns had cooled down. This damn maze was determined to kill him.

Anna had to stop running. She kept telling herself that, kept saying that if she didn't stop she would run out of energy too soon, but she couldn't help it. Her heart was still pounding as her mind showed replays of the creature charging at her, it's threatening horn ready to rip her to shreds. That was, if it didn't have any magical qualities, which it probably did. Sure, she was probably far enough away that it wouldn't be able to find her, but just the thought of it made her want to run more. She ran past a few turns, too distracted to even notice them.
When she was finally able to calm herself down, Anna noticed another path to her right. Taking a deep breath, she turned down it, hoping that this one wouldn't lead to another terrifying creature, or something similar. She shouldn't feel this way already, but she was done with this stupid maze. Sure, she'd been able to make it through her challenges so far, but why couldn't anything just be easy in here?
There was nothing in front of her. Anna felt uneasy as she cautiously walked down the empty path, waiting for something to jump out and attack her. But nothing did. After a few minutes of walking, she started to relax, relieved that she finally got a break from all the stress. It probably wouldn't last long, but at least it gave her a second to catch her breath.
Anna froze when she took a step and felt the ground shift under her foot about an inch. What. Something was happening, or about to happen and she instantly tensed, trying to convince herself that she was ready for this, whatever it was. After nothing happened, Anna decided to keep on moving. The second her foot left the spot where the ground shifted, she heard a hissing sound and saw a dark mist seeping onto her path from the hedges on both sides. She had no idea what it was, but this could not be good.
Once more, Anna started running, trying to get out of there before the mist could touch her, but it was also coming out from the hedge in front of her for quite a ways. She had no choice but to run through all of it. After a few seconds, it was surrounding her and Anna ran, wondering what it was doing to her. Really, it didn't feel like anything was different, but what purpose would there be in having useless mist in the middle of this blasted maze? Just to freak her out? She continued on, wondering if it would only affect her if she had prolonged contact with it.
When she finally escaped the mist, Anna bent over and put her hands on her knees as she gasped for air. Her eyes were closed as she tried to ease the burning in her lungs. Maybe the mist did something to her respiratory system? Still, she couldn't stay here too long. Anna stood up, still breathing heavily and opened her eyes. That was weird. Everything was blurry. She blinked a few times, but it didn't help at all. Now she was starting to get worried. Anna started rubbing her eyes, hoping that would help everything come back into focus, but when she opened them again she saw nothing. Her world was pitch black and Anna gasped, hardly believing this. They made her blind? What kind of a challenge was this? It certainly wasn't meant to test her magical skills, when they were taking her sight away from her!
Trying once more, just to make sure she wasn't imagining things, Anna waved her hand in front of her face and opened her eyes, hoping to see something, anything. No such luck. She took a deep breath and started to move over to the hedge. There was no way she was giving up. She held her hands in front of her as she searched for the wall. All she had left to do was follow it. Hopefully the blindness would wear off, but she'd never heard of a spell to make someone temporarily blind. No, she wasn't going to focus on that. She had to pay attention to the task at hand.
Anna grunted when her foot caught on something and the next thing she knew, she was on her hands and knees on the floor. This was going to be a lot harder than she anticipated. Worried that if she got up again she would just fall once more, Anna stayed on her hands and knees and crawled forward until she ran into the hedge. She stood up and started walking, trailing her hand on the hedge as she moved, trying to pretend like it wasn't getting to her. It was. She was blind. And she didn't know if she was going to get her sight back any time soon. Could things get any worse?

@annelise , @emile <3 His burns were starting to hurt more, but Elias wasn't sure if he could conjure up anything from outside of the maze to come to him on the inside. He wasn't going to risk getting into trouble, but a cream would probably help him, though. Elias was starting to struggle, but he couldn't stop. He couldn't send up red sparks. Physical exhaustion is what he was experiencing, no doubt, with the things that had happened to him already. But emotionally, he was not yet exhausted and he planned to finish this maze. It occurred to him that he did have two other champions in this maze as well, and Elias was curious to know what they've had to endure so far.
A left turn was his next option; he assumed since the right turns had given him so much hell, a left one may be good for him. It was decent enough, but he had come to a dead end. Groaning, Elias turned back around and he only walked a mere two steps before he felt...funny. His eyes widened and he felt slightly dizzy, so he held on to whatever was closest to him, (the maze wall), and shut his eyes for a moment. Once he opened his eyes, he stood, shocked and confused. Where was he? Why was it so dark? And so...creepy? Elias felt his heart rate race, and he became extremely nervous. What had happened?
He looked down at himself and took in a sharp breath. What had happened to him?! Elias began running, well, as much as you could assume he'd run on a splint, and he tried to yell. But...nothing came out. He couldn't speak! Elias felt like he was having a panic attack, a mental breakdown, but he just continued going straight, trying to yell as loud as he could, but it was just silence.
