It was early November, about a week past after the Champions were announced. Elias had finally come to terms with the fact that he had been chosen, and that he was going to compete in all of the tasks this year and risk his own safety. But there were other things that had happened on Halloween that were still clouding his brain...
His relationship with Maria was okay now. They were speaking again, no longer arguing, and she apologized. That was a good thing, at least.
His sister tried to kill herself. That was a bad thing. An absolutely terrible, horrible thing that he was still not able to understand or get over.
Now, early Saturday morning, he got up, showered, threw on a pair of dark blue jeans, his boots, a long sleeved white t-shirt and a thick fleece green colored sweater, he made his way into Hogsmeade. He wanted to buy Maxima something, as she was still in the Hospital Wing. He wanted her to know he cared for her, and that he wanted her around for a much longer time then she obviously assumed.

The insanity of the past week was hard to escape while on the Hogwarts ground. Despite the champions being announced already, all three schools were ravenous about gaining more knowledge on the tournament. It was like the long wait to figure out who would be representing each school was too much to bear any longer. Cordelia didn’t really understand what was so amazing about it. All she wanted to do was take pictures. Whether that was of the champions or the tasks they had to do, or simply a flower on the side of the path to Hogsmeade, it didn’t really matter to her at all. The little flower that she was trying to frame up just wasn’t doing it for her though. The cold air that had been brought in by November was wreaking havoc on the plant life around the grounds, and her favorite subjects were slowly dying. Soon she’d be left with only trees and snow. There were only so many different ways to take pictures of either of those.
Slowly making her way down the path to the nearby wizarding town, she was disappointed that there really wasn’t anything interesting to take pictures of. There had been hope for that little flower, but like many other things, it had let her down. Maybe if she revisited it in the spring it would be a happier subject. Not exactly paying attention to where she was walking, Cordelia suddenly felt herself come into contact with something else. Slightly stumbling, she fell backwards and landed on the ground. Too preoccupied with making sure her camera was fine, she didn’t even look up to see the person she had just walked into.

Unfortunately, walking while looking down at the ground was not the best choice for Elias. It ended up in either someone getting hurt or an argument. Well, he had bumped into someone, a girl he realized as he got over the shock. Ugh, every girl he had ended up bumping into was his sister, but this girl didn't look like a Greyback in any way.
Elias knelt down in front of her, realizing she was inspecting her camera. His eyes were full of concern as he looked at her, an apologetic smile adorning his face. "I'm sorry, Krasiva... Are you alright?" Elias held out his hand to her, hoping she'd take it so he could help her stand up.

Still ignoring the person she had bumped into, Cordelia was in a moment of sheer panic. When she had picked her camera up off the ground, she noticed that the glass on the lens was broken. It was a simple enough fix, but the thought that she had caused harm to a possession as valuable as that was enough to throw her into a frenzy. Quickly pulling her wand out she pointed it at the lens, repeating the fixing spell over and over in her head before initiating it. A short spark burst out of her wand and the glass was instantly fixed. Knowing the spell well, anything else that was possibly broken on it was probably fixed now as well. Giving the camera one last inspection, she noticed that a hand was in front of her face.
Looking up, she saw an extremely tall man…boy…man? She wasn’t sure what he was, but he was a lot taller than she was, and he was staring down at her, apologizing for something. Had she run into him? Swallowing, Cordelia took his hand and used it to stand up. She was slightly confused while he apologized though. He called her Krasiva. Was he mistaking her for someone else? It was embarrassing enough that she had bumped into him like that, being mistaken for someone he knew was even worse. “I’m f-f-f-fine…my name is C-Cordelia not Kra-Krasiva?” She ended it with a question, unsure if she had even pronounced it right.

It was clear to Elias that this girl really loved her camera. Which of course, was not a bad thing, but he wondered why it was so special to her. He had never seen the girl before, but he assumed by her robes that she was a Hufflepuff at Hogwarts, the same to his sister Jamie. Elias watched as she pulled out her wand, seemed to think for a moment, and then spoke a spell. The camera must have been broken from the spell she had said, and he rose his eyebrows, impressed with her magic.
She finally looked up at him and grabbed his hand. Elias smiled charmingly as she spoke when he pulled her up to her feet. She seemed to have a stutter, which Elias had never met anyone to have one, but thankfully it wasn't too difficult for him to understand her. She questioned his use of the word 'Krasiva' and he sometimes forgot that not everyone speaks Bulgarian like himself and Maria. Not only that, but it was unusual for Elias to even speak to so many people outside of Maria and his professors. "It is nice to meet you, Miss Cordelia. Sorry for that, Krasiva is Bulgarian for beautiful."

She shook her head back and forth as he apologized again. It wasn’t exactly his fault to begin with. She had been too preoccupied trying to take pictures and ran into him. Sure, if he hadn’t been standing there then she would have kept wandering throughout Hogsmeade. The way things worked out with her though, she would have ended up walking right into the back of another stranger. That was just how her life was.
“N-n-nice to meet you too…” She trailed off though as he kept talking, explaining what “Krasiva” meant. She nodded her head as he said it was Bulgarian for beautiful. Still nodding, it took a full second for that to sink in. She looked behind her, assuming that he was talking to someone else, before looking back up at him. “Me?” Cordelia said blankly, pointing at herself. She was starting to think she had maybe hit her head on the ground when she fell over.

Elias gave her a charming smile. He didn't want her to be nervous or embarrassed that she had bumped into him, which is why he was apologizing. And hey, technically it took two people to bump into one another, especially where he hadn't been paying much attention either. So they couldn't really say whose fault it was, just that they both weren't watching and a bump happened. That wasn't a terrible thing, right?
Cordelia pointed at herself and Elias rose an eyebrow, smiling at her. Slowly, he nodded his head and pointed back at her. "Yes, you." He chuckled quietly, amused at her shock. She was truly beautiful, he'd never deny that and he'd hoped she'd know that as well. He tilted his head at her, his curls falling over his shoulder. "Is your camera alright?"

While she still didn’t understand what the reason was for the boy to be calling her beautiful was, there was still a reason for her to be embarrassed about it. Lily had said something along the same lines when they had first met. Instead of beautiful though, she had said Cordelia looked more like a cat, or something like that. None of that really made any sense to her, because she didn’t see it herself. She’d never turn down a compliment though, since that was what this boy was doing, right? When he said he was talking about her she kept nodding her head, despite not understanding what she had just ended up in. Nodding had gotten her through a lot over the past six years since it meant she didn’t have to talk. And less she had to talk, the less she stuttered, and the easier it was for people to talk to her.
Then he asked her if her camera was okay. Well it was now that she had fixed it, but that wasn’t the nicest thing to say, since he appeared concerned about it. She had found out that cameras weren’t all that common in Hogwarts, despite them working perfectly fine. There were a decent amount of others with them, but none were in the art club as far as she knew, so there was no way she’d be able to talk about photography with them. It was rare for someone to actually ask about the camera, since it was always about what she was trying to take pictures of. “I th-think so. The lens was cracked, b-but I fixed it.” She had broken any form of eye contact with the tall boy that might have existed throughout the conversation to look back down at the camera as she spoke. Hopefully he didn’t think she was trying to dodge the question or avoid talking further. He had been nice to her the entire time, and she hated making people like that leave because of her own vices.

Elias assumed the girl was shy. Not just because she wasn't speaking, but because she just kept continuously nodding her head. There wasn't anything wrong with being shy, he felt himself that even he was shy at times. It wasn't something he was used to, being around Maria so much, Elias had learned to be comfortable and outgoing with himself. Otherwise, just having Maria around would most likely be a pain for him.
Cordelia's eyes left his and stared at her camera and he smiled down at her. She was quite small. His eyes glanced to the camera as well, and he rose an eyebrow. "What do you take pictures of?" Elias didn't know the difference between a muggle camera or a wizarding camera, so he was't sure which one this was. But she seemed to love it and he was sure asking her about it would make her feel better about herself, and possibly more comfortable. He was trying to ignore the stuttering and just pay attention to what she was saying, so hopefully her next comment would be easier to understand.

There it was. The question. At least this one was about what she actually liked to take pictures of, rather than what she was taking pictures of. That was always an annoying one to field when she was trying to frame something up. This time though, she wasn’t taking pictures, and his question was more to keep the conversation going. That wasn’t bad at all. “P-p-pretty much everything…” That was a terrible response. It didn’t answer his question at all, and probably only raised more. Now that she had said it, what did she take pictures of? There were the little projects she worked on all the time. Then there was the one of the little dead flower she failed to get. In a way, her answer wasn’t technically wrong, just a very vague one that wouldn’t help the boy out at all.
She continued to fiddle with the lens of her camera as she thought more about her photography work. Did she have a distinct style or subject matter? Nature was the most common thing people saw in her work, but that was only what she thought was the best, or at least what she didn’t mind being viewed. Letting the camera fall from her hands and bounce around as the strap around her neck compensated for gravity, she looked back up at the boy, hoping this time she could answer his question better. “I t-take pictures of anything that interests m-me. M-mostly trees and p-plants and s-s-stuff. I don’t really like doing portraits though.”

Pretty much everything. Okay, that wasn't a bad answer. Elias assumed everyone enjoyed taking pictures of anything, but he did know of some photographers that were much more talented in certain photos than others. For example, his own mother. She loved taking photos, and she did very well with nature and night photography. Maybe it was the same with this girl, who knows?
"My mother is the same way, she's very talented with a camera. Loves taking photos at night and photos of landscapes and waterfalls and such." Elias smiled gently at her. He was beginning to think that her stutter wasn't just nerves, but it was just her. He had heard of something that helped with stutters, but he didn't want to put her on the spot or embarrass her. Elias decided to wait, they had just met and he couldn't imagine what it would feel like to have someone point out one of his flaws out of no where. "Do you have any photos with you that you've taken? I'd love to see one."

Did he just say that his mother was a photographer too? Had she heard that right? For some reason, that made her feel at ease, especially when it came to answering questions about herself. He would know what she was talking about, at least to an extent, so that made everything easier. But then he asked if she had any photos on her that he could see. Thinking for a moment, Cordelia held up a finger to ask him to hold for a second and pulled her bag around to the front of her. She could only work with limited resources while at school because of technology issues, so the majority of her work done there had to be shot on film. It wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to work with, but she had become accustomed to it over the last few years. Flipping through her stuff, she finally produced a folder that held a couple of images she had shot over the summer on her more “advanced” camera. She was tentative to call it that, but compared to the one she had with her now, it definitely was. It was unfortunate that muggle tech couldn’t work on school grounds. She understood why, of course, but it was simply annoying for someone like her.
Handing over the picture to the boy, she was hesitant to say anything. The photo was of a lake in Scotland. She had begged her dad to take her, since he was retired now and did nothing but complain about things all day, she felt like it was the perfect opportunity to get out and do something with him. He didn’t really understand muggle things that much, other than what she told him, so when it came to buying cameras, muggle films, and other things, she had to rely on her mother more often than not. “It’s n-n-not my best but I liked it enough to b-bring it to school…”

Elias gladly took the photo, staring at it. It was truly beautiful, this girl definitely had a talent but she seemed very sheepish about it. Elias tilted his head, looking at the lake and the grass around it. He'd never seen this exact place before, but it did look familiar. Himself and his mother did travel a lot, anyways. "This is amazing, Cordelia. You should be proud of yourself." Giving her a smile, he handed the photo back over to her, curious if she had nay more. Although he assumed not, with the way it took her to find this photo in the first place.
Glancing around, he wondered what time it was. He looked back at her and grinned. "Are you hungry, at all, sweetheart? It's all I could do for knocking you over and breaking your camera." Elias did feel very guilty about that, so he was hoping that she would forgive him and let him take her out to eat. It was a simple gesture, one he didn't mind doing. However Cordelia seemed quite nervous, and he didn't want to push her or overload her with emotions.

As the boy looked over her photo, she started to squirm a little bit. She didn't mind people looking at her work, but it was much better if it was up on display somewhere instead of personally being handed over by her. Saying that it made her nervous was an understatement, and by this point she had returned her hands to her camera and was starting to fidget around with the lens and other small parts on it. The longer he inspected the photo, the more she got anxious, his study of it finally ending with him handing it back over and complimenting her for her skill. Well she knew she was pretty good already, she just didn't have the ability to actually say that to anyone. "Th-thank you." Cordelia reached and took the photo back, placing back where it belonged. "I t-try my best." A weak smile followed.
She had expected their conversation to end there, but it didn't. The boy then asked her if she wanted to get something to eat, since he had caused her camera to break. Cordelia was ready to protest it since it was fixed now, but a low grumble in her stomach made her change her mind. "S-sure." He had a way with words, that was for sure. Calling her sweetheart only added to the embarrassment of being called beautiful earlier, and having her work acknowledged. "Wh-what's your name again? I don't think I c-caught it..." She was sure he hadn't said it, but it was better to know who she was going to eat with over walking around with a complete stranger.

Elias gave her a curt nod at her thanks. He was being honest; it was a great photo. Not that he had a lot of experience with photography or taking photos, but as a child, he did get a lot of information from his mother and which photos she said were not so great compared to ones that were good. Cordelia's had a good scene, and its editing was amazing. Elias would be shocked if she hadn't edited the photo, as he couldn't see anything that was out of place or needed more coloring.
Cordelia accepted his offer and Elias grinned. "Good." They began walking, and Elias' eyes widened at her question. His name? He wasn't offended, but he sort of assumed she'd know who he was. Actually...it was a nice feeling knowing he was still a stranger to some people. With a gentle smile, he finally spoke. "My name is Elias. I'm from Durmstrang." He wasn't currently wearing his school robes, so he wouldn't have thought she'd know which school he was from, even with just an accent.
