Lily a handful? Maybe two hands, or three. Cordelia felt a little bad for her parents having to deal with that when she was growing up. She couldn’t imagine bouncing off the walls 24/7, let alone doing that in general. There was a good chance that if her parents ever met with Lily’s, they could have made a swap between the two of them. She was sure her mum and dad would have enjoyed a child that was a little more outgoing, energized, and not afraid of thinking of looking at someone the wrong way. Then again, the Potters were probably the only ones truly equipped to handle her at the end of the day. “She’s fun. Helps me get o-o-out of my shell.” Merlin knew she needed that.
They approached the front door to Dervish & Bangs, Cordelia grabbing onto the handle and pulling the heavy door open with all her might. Why did shops always have heavy doors? “They have s-some cool things that could work for p-presents.” But she was only interested in the film that may or may not be there. It was a nice little secret that she had stumbled upon one day. “Anything else?” Cordelia pondered the thought for a few seconds. She couldn’t recall the last time she had purchased anything other than film, candy, and food. And that was in general. “I d-don’t think so?”

Elias laughed. Of course Lily helped her out of her shell. That's what Lily did. She was bouncy, happy, giggly and very bold. What most people at least hoped to be in life. It was honestly a fairly hard thing to do. Elias for example, was generally happy, but he was not outgoing or bouncy. He was very laid back and keeps to himself often, which it also seemed like Cordelia did the same. "Well that's a good thing, Cordelia."
His eyes widened at her struggle with the doors and Elias reached over her, pulling it open easily. He was strong, much stronger than this small girl of course, and if he had gotten there first he would've helped her in the first place. They finally entered and browsed, and he smiled at her. "Well, that's quite alright. Maybe you'll buy something new in the future, or not at all!"

It was a good thing. Cordelia nodded her head a few times in agreeance. She probably wouldn’t be having this long of a conversation with Elias if it wasn’t for Lily. There were other factors too, of course. She had been planning on trying to reach out to other people a little more this year and next, hoping to make the most of her last two years of school. Lily happened to appear at the right time though, and the rest was what had gotten Cordelia to this point. She owed the Gryffindor a lot. “I n-n-needed it.” She stated, remembering her thoughts from moments earlier. More than needed it actually, it was necessary to her survival post-graduation in a year and a half.
Cordelia’s battle with the door to the shop was assisted by Elias, who managed to get it open easily. She blamed the cold wind that was pushing against it for the struggle it had given her. Normally it wasn’t that heavy. Still weighed a ton, but she could at least get it open enough to squeeze through before it closed again. They looked around for a few moments before Cordelia caught sight of the film she needed. And there was a lot of it. Practically skipping over to it, she grabbed an armful of boxes, each one containing a dozen or so individual rolls of film. The best part of all was that shop owners had absolutely no clue how to price muggle stock. She didn’t want to know what they did to get it, but it was cheap enough that she never had to shell out too much. “N-Never. All I n-need is film.” Cordelia stepped back towards Elias and stopped. “D-Did you want to l-look around more?”

He could see why she thought she needed it. Elias couldn't imagine what it might be like to have difficulty speaking or conversing with other people. It had always been fairly easy for him, even if he was naturally shy around new people. But he'd only be guarded and not share his entire life story. He felt bad for her, although Elias was sure she wouldn't like him to do so. Cordelia seemed to be very okay with it and she was taking it in stride which he thought was cause for praise.
They glanced around the store and Elias was looking at a small table of different trinkets and jewelry. He rose an eyebrow as he quickly glanced over them all and began laughing as his eye spotted one particular thing. He picked it up. It was a thin silver bracelet, with the center having a small amount of twine. What stuck out to him was the center; a small fiery red stone resembling fire. Elias knew this would be a great Christmas gift for Maria, and as he turned, Cordelia asked if there was anything else he wanted to look at. "No, I've got a gift here that I'd like to buy."

She watched as Elias made his way over to a table filled with jewelry. Apparently the store had that kind of stuff too. Cordelia would never admit it, but she was only ever in here for the film. To say that she knew what the rest of the store’s stock was would be a lie. The object he had picked up looked like a bracelet of sorts. For as simple as it was, it definitely stuck out, the little stone or gem, whatever it was, shining brightly whenever it hit the light coming through the store windows. Whoever that was going to was lucky. Cordelia wasn’t big on jewelry and other shiny trinkets, mostly since her life and money was spent towards her camera. That was more important to her than being flashy. Still, maybe she would check that table out the next time she stopped in.
“It’s pretty.” Cordelia started, not aware that she had been staring at the bracelet. “M-Must be for s-someone special.” Rotating the boxes of film in her hands, she remembered that they needed to check out. Motioning with her head towards the front of the store, she walked up to the cash register, depositing her money to the shopkeeper, and happily took her film. She wouldn’t have to worry about running out for a while now. That meant a very happy Hufflepuff for the next few months.

He saw Cordelia glancing at the bracelet he had picked up and nodded at her questioning about it. It definitely was for someone special, more importantly Maria. The one person in his life that never left, never judged him and loved him no matter what mistakes he may have made. "My cousin, Maria. She's also a Durmstrang student." Whether or not Cordelia had met her he wasn't sure, but he'd know within a few moments. Maria's a hard person to forget.
Elias walked over to the cash register with Cordelia and waited patiently for her to be done paying for her items. He walked up and bought the bracelet, along with a small gift bag to put it in. Finally exiting the store, Eli held open the door for Cordelia and grinned. "It was nice meeting you, Cordelia. But, I've got some stuff to do for the tournament. I hope to see you soon?" Elias smiled, giving her shoulder a small touch in a goodbye and began walking back towards his ship.

For his cousin. That made sense. They were both Durmstrangs, and the way he said it, that meant she was probably at Hogwarts too. Cordelia hadn’t really talked to any of the students from the other schools, so she was positive that she hadn’t met this Maria girl. If Elias, who seemed to be a really good person, was getting her something though, clearly she was a decent person as well. He seemed to have a good sense of right and wrong when it came to people.
She waited after paying for Elias to do the same. He held the door open for her as they left. As they stepped outside, he turned to her, saying that he had to go. It took a few seconds for it to register that meant he was leaving, and she nodded her head. “S-Sure. Th-thanks again f-for lunch…g-good luck too.” She waved as he left. Looking down at her camera and new film supplies, she decided it was probably best to head back to the school to put it all away. Staring off ahead of herself, Cordelia headed back to the school.
[THE END]
