Good, he said. That was good enough for her. It was always good enough, whatever small words or touch she got from him. She never expected much, that's just not how Grey was, and she was completely fine with that. It was part of the reason she liked him so much, why he was one of her best friends. He kept things simple, saying only what he felt needed to be said and what was necessary. Sometimes she felt like he wasn't saying everything he was thinking, of course, but that was fine with her too. Really she completely accepted him and whatever he wanted, which was why she was so worried that he wouldn't be able to accept this. She finally figured it out, in that moment, the reason she was so afraid of telling him. She was scared that he wouldn't be able to get past the differences this would make in her life, in their lives. But, as per usual, he said exactly what needed to be said to calm her nerves.
That didn't stop her hands from slightly shaking with emotion, though, as she thought about that. Thankfully, the subject was shifting to a lighter mood, what with her little joke about him always smelling bad. He replied, seeming to be surprised for a moment, then spoke about Finn and how he couldn't be much better. She laughed, but that laugh was a bit more like a cry at first. She bit her lip and nodded, "yeah, Finn smells pretty bad too," she agreed. But really, the both didn't smell half bad. In fact, she had to stop thinking about it.
She took a step back, completely detaching herself from Grey in any way.

Finn heard her comment about smelling pretty bad and made a face at her. “I smell like roses and sunshine thank you very much,” he quipped, the corners of his mouth upturning a little into a smile. He watched as she took a step back away from Grey and he moved forward. “You’re hungry," he observed, seeing the hunger reflecting in her eyes. He knew that she would refuse to eat with Grey in the same room; it had taken almost a week to convince the girl to even see him. She wasn’t ready for that step, and Finn would only push her so much. “Come on Grey, let’s give Rai a little privacy shall we,” he said, giving her a small inclination towards the fridge where her donated blood was stored. He gripped Grey’s arm, gentle yet firm in case the younger Gryffindor tried to argue with him. “No arguments,” he told Grey seriously. grey xavier slater @railynn

The Monsters walk among us It was hard not to laugh at the comments about their blood smelling weird. Strange that it was even a conversation that they could have now. He could tell that it was helping all of them though. This weird awkward feeling that had been looming over them the entire time finally seemed to be breaking a little. He knew it would take a while longer for Rai to get used to the whole vampire thing, especially around him. Yet at the same time, that little joke had been a glimmer of hope that things were going to be fine. Different, but fine. Then she stepped back from him. He was confused at first, but the quick movements of Finn to his side was enough to alert him what was going on. She was hungry. He couldn’t figure out how Finn had recognized that so fast. Turning to give a sign of protest, he understood that this was serious. Finn wouldn’t have grabbed on to him like that if it wasn’t. Nodding that he understood, he gave a small wave to Rai as they left the room. “I couldn’t even tell…how’d you know?” He inquired. Grey was somewhat confused still. Had the talk about their blood been enough to push her over the edge? She was still new at the whole thing, so he was sure it was hard to control hunger urges like that right off the bat. He had never encountered a vampire before, but he knew the stigma that followed close behind them. From class, he had learned that things were becoming easier for them, the same way it was with werewolves. Sure, both had super-human powers, even for magical humans, but they were still people…just with different dietary and health restrictions. It was like those muggles that only ate vegetables. Finn gave his friend a sympathetic smile. “Spending a lot of time with Rai over the past week, let’s just say I’ve grown an intuition to when she’s hungry...or I guess thirsty,” he explained with a half shrug. He eyes darkened a little at the memory of when he’d found Rai that day in Hogsmeade. “She probably won’t want me telling you this, but since you came with me the night I questioned Uriah, you have the right to know in my opinion.” He took another deep breath and sighed. “Rai came back the day she was found to Hogsmeade; she found me, I didn’t find her. She was covered in blood; I’m still not entirely sure how much of it was her own and how much was...not. But she showed me the two tiny puncture wounds in her neck, so I realized exactly what had happened.” He hesitated, taking a look at Grey’s features, before continuing on. “It took a few days to get used to the idea, but now that I’ve come to terms with what she is, it’s a lot easier on both of us. She’s still the same Rai, just you know...aside from the drinking blood and being undead,” he finished, giving a wry chuckle. grey xavier slater @railynn , we can go a few turns then you hops back in?

The Monsters walk among us It was hard not to feel a shiver emanate through his body as Finn explained he had gotten used to Rai being hungry. He’d have to adjust too going forward. It’d be difficult, but he knew it would be for the better. She needed all the help she could get now. Grey quickly snapped out of his focus on the hunger thing and listened intently as Finn described what had happened as Rai showed up again in Hogsmeade. He didn’t have time to think about every little detail as that wasn’t exactly necessary. All that was important is that she was alive, or as Finn put it, drinking blood and undead. She was still Rai. He nodded his head to show that he understood all of it. “Does she plan on continue auror training? I know it might be too early to decide that but…” But what? He didn’t want to say it, but he knew there was a stigma about vampires using magic. Rai might have become one now, but it had been completely against her will, little details aside. He didn’t know if that made a difference or not, and whether other vampires would even consider her one of them. The last thing he wanted was for her to be stuck in limbo between being accepted by other witches and wizards and vampires. It seemed like it would probably be messy right at the start. “All that matters is she’s alive. I can get used to the blood drinking and fangs thing. It’s kind of cool if you think about it.” Positive thinking was all he had at this point, since it was still hard to wrap his mind around all of it. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Grey’s reaction was better than even Finn was expecting, and he had been expecting a lot better than Rai. She had been freaking out about Grey seeing her for the first time since she Turned, but it was clear to Finn that Grey had a bit more gut to him than Rai was concerned about. “I’m glad you’re taking this so well,” he said, giving his friend a sincere smile. “Rai is going to continue training, I think. It’d been a dream of hers for so long that I don’t think she’d let something like turning into a vampire stop her,” he told Grey with a chuckle. “Then there’d also be an immortal Auror on the force, which could certainly be useful for trainings later on. I think though, that there will be more concrete plans on what she wants to do after she feels ready to come back to the real world. That I’m not sure when will be.” He and Rai had planned to go to the Yule Ball as friends together when the Tournament was announced, and after his relationship with Dom had gone back to just friendship. They always had fun together, Finn and Rai, but he was concerned she wouldn’t feel ready by the time the Ball came around. “We should probably get going,” he told Grey, putting on his cloak after casting a glance at Rai’s closed door. She’ll be fine, he thought to himself. She had to, for their sake as much as hers. grey xavier slaterooc: feel free to end it in this post or your next one <3

The Monsters walk among us “Kind of have to be fine with it. There’s no going back now.” He hoped that didn’t sound like he was being forced to accept Rai as she was. Technically he was, since the whole vampire deal had just sprung on all of them, but that didn’t change the fact that he wasn’t going to change his view on her. She was still Rai, as he kept reminding himself over and over again. Vampire or not, that was still Rai in the hospital room. Grey nodded his head as Finn stated that she would probably still continue with the training program. That was good. She would need that. The constant busy work, or whatever it was they were going to task her with now, would help keep her mind off the whole being turned thing. Finn was right though, becoming a vampire wouldn’t stop her. If it did, then there was a bigger problem at hand that they weren’t seeing. Grey joined in with a small laugh at the idea of the aurors having an immortal member now. It definitely was something else. A normal vampire would never be found anywhere close to that amount of magical testosterone, especially since they were so hesitant to rely on magic provided by wizards and witches. From the looks of it though, Rai wasn’t going to toss that away at all. That was still indicative of who she really was. Finn started to put his jacket on and mentioned that they should probably go. Grey needed to get back to the castle anyways, since he was kind of on a short leash as it was. Having been off grounds a couple times now in the past week meant he was being closely watched while in the school. Not that he was going to run off and try and see Rai on his own. She still needed to grow accustomed to being around other people first before he attempted that. It’d all be for naught if he found himself bleeding out on the floor of her hospital room because she wanted a late night snack. “Guess we should.” Grey followed Finn’s motions and put his own jacket on as well, taking one last look at Rai’s door before turning to leave. Things were going to be different now. Not completely different, but enough that it would be noticeable. A little change never killed anyone though. [THE END]
