I t was the first weekend in November. The first weekend since he was named the Beauxbatons champion. There really wasn’t any greater feeling of accomplishment than this. He had traveled to another country with the sole purpose of being named the greatest witch or wizard from his school in a tournament between the three best from three different schools. There were a few issues he had with labeling the Hogwarts champion as the best, but he had yet to see what she had in her, so it was safe to assume that there was no harm in thinking she was a waste of talent. Durmstrang had that wild looking boy, but it was best not to underestimate him. They were known to have some pretty talented champions in the past, Viktor Krum for one, and apparently the advisor they had was the winner from the last tournament. If anything, he was the real threat to Émile’s total victory. There was still some excitement around the castle about him being one of the champions; the Beauxbatons students were severely disappointed that he got it though. Easily being the cockiest, most arrogant, and pretentious of the bunch didn’t make him the most likeable by any means but he didn’t really care what others thought anyways. To escape the little bit of energy that the Hogwarts students still had, he had managed to end up in Hogsmeade. It was a rather interesting little town, and it was nice to walk around on the weekends. The best part though was the candy shop. There had been a serious lack of sweets for him since he had arrived at Hogwarts. This was the shining light at the end of that long, dark tunnel for him. Popping the door open into Honeyduke’s, Émile stepped in. This was Heaven. Shangri-La. Paradise. An oasis of all his dreams (minus winning the tournament) come true. There was absolutely nothing that could make this day better. Or so he thought.

@emile honeydukes was a favorite place for ripley. for the last seven years every time the school allowed them into the small little village it had provided the candy to see her through the weeks between visits. she was here now, sitting in one of the windows of the store, a bag by her side that was filled to the top of lollipops and candies and chocolate. it was going to be great when she got back to the school. she had plans to eat herself into a candy coma that night with some of her other room mates. she took a lollipop from the bag and took the wrapper off without looking at it. she knew it was a weird quirk of hers, but she couldn't help it. she didn't look at the flavors on the wrapped. she had picked about thirty of them at random and placed them into the bag and she always loved the mix of flavors she got. plus she was bound to get some her siblings liked so she could give them to them. but before she could put the sweet in her mouth the door to the shop opened and when she saw who was standing there she couldn't help but smile. emile. the champion for beauxbatons. she had had a conversation with him in the library before he had been chosen but aside from a few quick meetings in the halls she hadn't really spoken to him. she hopped up from the window, grabbed her bag and moved over to him. she came up behind him and smiled. tapping his shoulder she ducked around to his front and held the random flavored lolly to him. "stick this in your mouth. don't ask questions. just eat it" she said with a grin. part of her hoped it was a chili or a sour flavor, but any reaction would be a good one.

H e had only managed to make it a few feet into the door before the sugary sweetness of pure ecstasy hit him straight in the face. Calling it Paradise was doing the shop a dishonor. Honeydukes was far superior to anything that could ever happen to him. His initial belief that winning the Triwizard tournament was the greatest thing that could occur was long gone from his head. Living forever in the candy store was the sweetest thing life could give him. He would gladly throw the tournament if that meant living here was a possibility. Lost in the mounds of candy, sweets, and other assorted sugary sustenance, Émile initially ignored the tapping sensation on his shoulder. Whatever, or whoever, it was could wait. The candy was calling his name right now. Unfortunately it continued, so he finally turned around to see who was so keen on getting his attention, only to spot a blaze of red swirl around to his front. Sluggish from the sugary air that was intoxicating his senses, he finally made it back to where the red had gone. Standing in front of him was the red flash herself: Ripley Krum. Émile thought it was an illusion of grandeur at first, his blurry eyes still trying to accept the awesomeness that the store comprised of. But alas, it was simply Ripley, standing there trying to shove a lollipop of sorts into his mouth. That was definitely something new. And she didn’t want him to ask any questions. This was candy made for magic folks, so there was a chance that it could be something absolutely sinister and vile, though he didn’t take her for the type to try and pull that. Deciding to go along with it all, he leaned forward and bit over the lollipop, pulling it out of her hands. There wasn’t much flavor at first, but he could tell that it was just taking a while to get going. He stared back at Ripley expectantly, lollipop jammed into the side of his mouth, waiting for the taste to kick in. Then it hit him. The sourest thing in existence erupted his taste buds, but he held on. He could tell it was showing on his face so he did his best to play it off like he knew it was going to be sour. It didn’t work. Not being one to back down, and continued to let the sour candy rip apart his insides. All he wanted was something sweet. Sure, Ripley had appeared before him, but the lollipop was anything but.

@emile she smiled when he leaned forward to take the candy into his mouth. she let her hands fall down slightly and folded them over her chest and she tilted her head at him. she knew straight away that it wasn't s sweet one. if it was a sweet one he'd have known almost instantly. it was either a sour one or a hot one and she didn't envy him, nor did she feel bad for making him stick it in his mouth. "think of it as a 'congratulations on being picked as champion' gift" she said with a genuine smile as she let her arms drop to her sides and she picked up the bag she had put at her feet while she had given him the lolly to suck. she had thought it would be a sweet one, but oh well. even some gifts were horrible.
she could see his face twisting as the lolly clearly got worse and her smile grew without meaning too. she laughed softly and clapped her free hand over her mouth and chewed her lip to keep from laughing anymore. "i'm sorry .. but your face .. oh i'm so sorry" she said, opening her mouth accidentally let more of her laughter out of her mouth and she clasped her lip between her teeth again and tried to look innocent and almost a little bit sorry. she wasn't, it was always funny watching someone survive something that was bad tasting. she didn't know what it was though. "is it sour? or hot?" she asked as she dug into the lolly bag again with her hand and pulled out another one. luckily she looked at this one and grinned when she saw it was chocolate flavor. "do you want this one instead? i mean if that one is too much for you" she raised a brow slightly as if challenging him to keep eating the unpleasant one.

T his lollipop was supposed to be a congratulatory gift for becoming champion? It was anything but that! On the other hand though, even if she had purposely handed him a sour one, there was no way to tell that he was more into the sugar sweets. He was positive that had never come up in their last conversation. If it had, well, Ripley Krum was the next spawn of the devil and clearly had it out for him. But that just made this all the more fun. The semi-earnest reaction from her was enough to tell him that she had expected the candy to be sour, yet hadn’t been positive about it. Her face told all, as did his as it continued to contort the longer the sour lollipop stayed in his mouth. He had a certain level of tolerance for it, but it was starting to wear on him. Certain kinds of sour candies had a limit before they became absolutely unbearable, and the lollipop was nearing that mark now. As Ripley continued to giggle and apologize for what she had done to him, he continued to keep as straight-faced as possible. Only a little longer before he could call it quits. Instead of giving in though, he did the most Émile thing possible; he snapped the almost full lollipop in half with his teeth. Crunching it down into tiny little dust particles of sour candy, he finished by popping the stick out from between his teeth. Like hell he was giving into a stupid piece of candy just because it was sour. Ripley asked him if it was sour as he was doing so, but was currently digging through the bag of lollipops again. What was she going to pull from it this time? “It was sour. But it was no match for a Triwizard champion.” He gave her a small grin as he took the next lollipop she handed him. This one was still wrapped but was chocolate. That was a little more in his area of comfort. “That’s a little better though.” Émile responded, taking the new lollipop from her. He spun it around in his hand a few times before unwrapping it and sticking it in his mouth like he had with the last. Sweet, sweet chocolatey relief was the only way he could explain the new lollipop. This was far better. Raising an eyebrow at Ripley, he decided to pose a question. Taking the lollipop out of his mouth again, he pointed it at her. “So which one are you Miss Krum, sweet or sour? Our first encounter would have said sweet…but I’m starting to think it’s the opposite now.”

@emile she heard him crunch the lolly and she managed to stop needing to keep herself from laughing and she touched a finger to her chin and watched him carefully, her head slightly tilted as he took the sour like a seasoned pro. “It was sour. But it was no match for a Triwizard champion.” she grinned and rolled her eyes just a little. oh he had almost failed at eating it. she had seen it in his eyes, the thought might not have been in his mind but there had been a possibility. "well let's hope sour lollipops are one of the tasks" she said as she took the chocolate lolly in her fingers and held it out to him. “That’s a little better though.” she smiled as he took it and dug back into the bag for one of her own. in the back of her mind she wondered how many of them they'd go throug during their conversation, but it wouldn't matter if they went through the whole lot. she could get some more. and it wasn't like it would be a waste. eating lollipops with emile could't be that bad a way to spend her time. "so you're a chocolate fan then" she said with a grin as she unwrapped her own lolly without looking at what it was and she popped it into her mouth, holding the stick between two fingers as she turned it against her cheek a few times. she smiled around the lolly and folded her arms across her chest, the bag hanging in the crook of her elbow as he pointed his own lollipop at her and asked a question.
“So which one are you Miss Krum, sweet or sour? Our first encounter would have said sweet…but I’m starting to think it’s the opposite now.” she giggled around the lolly, not able to stop it this time. so he had assumed she was sweet. well that was .. sweet. she thought anyway. if any of her family were with them right now they'd laugh with her. because ripley krum was anything but just sweet. she took the sweet from her mouth and gave an innocent little shrug, deciding to play up the sweetness at that point in time. "sweet is okay" she said as she blinked up at him, letting her eyes flutter a little before she had to gave and he smile turned into a grin and hr eyes turned develish. "but of course anything with bite is better" she was about to add something else about biting onto the end of that but she was cut short as someone else in the shop ran into her, their shoulder knocking into the middle of her back and sending her hurtling forward into emile. she tried to grab onto something to stop herself from falling into him, but there was nothing to grab onto. except emile.

H e had to think about her question on whether he was a chocolate fan or not for a few seconds. He definitely didn’t hate it. It was much better than the lollipop he had just had, that was for sure. “If it was between chocolate and the sour thing you just gave me, I’d take chocolate every day.” He’d probably get sick of it eventually, but it was still sweet, and that was all he needed to get through the day. All thoughts about stocking up on candy for the week had disappeared at this point though. If anything, he’d be set for the week after this. Watching her twirl another lollipop in her hands before hurriedly unwrapping it, Émile understand what had happened to him a few minutes earlier. She didn’t like to look at the flavors before eating them. That was definitely an interesting way to go about it. He preferred to know what he was about to get into, hence his rather large shock when the lollipop turned out so sour. Bertie Botts, which only existed in France in small quantities, had quickly become his least favorite of the candy in the store. Their unexpected and rather vile flavors were revolting to even think about. Chance was only fun to play with when it was under his control. When it came to eating a random flavored candy, he opted not to subject his body to unforeseen horrors. Upon posing his question on whether she was sweet or not, he was responded to with two varying answers. So his new suspicions were correct. The playful smile was enough to tell all. It was the same look she had given him when he first saw her in the library, laying on the table instead of sitting in a chair like anyone else would. He was starting to understand how she worked, and this conversation was only making it more worth his time. Émile raised an eyebrow again when she started to say anything with a bite was better. He wasn’t sure how to comprehend that one. Before he could ask, a person walking behind Ripley bumped into her and she started falling towards him. There wasn’t much thinking involved in what happened next. She was already reaching out to catch herself, and he did the other half of the work, grabbing her and pulling her into his arms, pulling her in close to make sure the rest of the forward momentum from the push was stopped before it sent him backwards too. Standing there, Émile felt a small grin form on his face. He had already loosened up his hold on Ripley a little bit, but was still in what seemed like a full on hug to him. “You know, I’ve been known to bite. Only under special circumstances and for certain people though.”

@emile as he stopped her from falling she stepped closer to him, turning back to see who had knocked her but they had made scarce of themself into the crowd and now she was left standing there with emile's arms looped around her. he didn't seen to be in any hurry to let go. the only saving grace was that the bag with the candy she had brought was crushed between them at the moment. otherwise she had a feeling she'd really be in trouble. she shifted slightly when he loosened his hold slightly but didn't let her go and she rested a hand on his bicep slightly and couldn't help but feel impressed by the muscle she felt. oh great she had turned into one of those .. feel a guys muscle and melt kind of girl .. wells he had always thought he was cute from afar but up close against him and close enough to .. she inwardly shook herself and was glad when he started speaking again, taking her attention off what she was thinking.
“You know, I’ve been known to bite. Only under special circumstances and for certain people though.” oh they had been talking about biting. that was right. she tilted her head up to look at him more and she grinned, the same playful, mischievous and slightly devilish smile that she had given him a moment ago and she raised an eyebrow slightly and tilted her head to the side slighty. so he bit under special circumstances. well under special circumstances she was sure she wouldn't hate it. "well then don't let me stop you" she said as she made herself look a little taller and straightened up in his hold. "like i said, i do so enjoy things with a good bite" she said as she shifted her hand from his arm to push against his shoulder slightly so she could work her way out of his hold.

H e watched as Ripley put her hand on his arm, apparently observing him. Was she going to say anything? Or move? Not that he really wanted her to. There was definitely something different about her that he was still trying to figure out. Most Hogwarts students he had talked to since arriving there had been relatively respectful, but he knew that deep down they thought he was hilarious for some of the things he said about being better than everyone else. That was full realized now though; he was the Beauxbatons champion. From the onset though, Ripley had never really seemed to care too much about his easily despicable attitude. She was a child of Viktor Krum. That alone could make the difference. The fame, glory, and lime-light were all too common with her. Maybe that was playing a small role in him not being awkwardly laughed at for wanting to be better than anyone and thinking so highly of himself. None of that was ever going to change for him though, regardless of what Ripley thought. That was his purpose, his drive. And so far, it seemed like she understood that where others didn’t. After giving his spiel about biting, he hadn’t really expected her to start playing along. It was surprise after surprise with this one. The look she had given him earlier returned again too as she responded to his comment. He felt a grin forming on his face again, his heartrate picking up slightly as he continued staring at her. As she straightened up in his arms a little bit, he felt her move her hand from his arm to his shoulder, pushing against it. At first he was hesitant to let go, doing so slowly, still watching her closely. “Well…we can always arrange that.” He stated, grin growing again. “In the meantime,” Émile fully let go of Ripley, instead placing his hand around her wrist, “I think a licorice snap or two might hold you over.” While this was somewhat of an excuse to get more candy, he also wanted to keep this going, purely to see where it ended up. “Although I’d like to think that I’m a little gentler than the candy is. Of course that can always change.”

@emile as she moved to step out of his arms she noticed there was some hesitation in the way he was slow to take his arms from around her. the thought that he didn't want to let her go was exciting for her. as he did finally drop his arms from her waist she took a step back from him, putting a little space between them so she could start to think slightly more clearly and wasn't letting herself get distracted by what she could feel of him. “Well…we can always arrange that. In the meantime,” that smile. he should smile more often. she got that he could be a cocky arrogant jerk but that didn't mean he couldn't do it with a smile. she herself didn't mind that he was like that, everyone needed to be confident in themselves and people who weren't bugged her a little. she felt that people who lacked confidence were searching for the justification of others. though she had never voiced those opinions to anyone. after all her sister was a little like that, nervous and highly strung at times and rip loved her dearly so she could never tell anyone who was like her sister to not be.
she looked at his wrist when he clasped his fingers around he and she let her smile soften from mischievous to something different. she caught it though, hopefully before emile noticed it and spoke back to him. "i look forward to it" she said with a grin as she stuck her tongue in her cheek slightly, pulling the lollipop out of her mouth for a second. “I think a licorice snap or two might hold you over.” she tilted her head a little and twisted the lollipop in her fingers as she turned her head to glance at the licorice snaps. “Although I’d like to think that I’m a little gentler than the candy is. Of course that can always change.” she let her face fall and she shook her head slightly, sticking the lolly back in her mouth and she shrugged her shoulders a little. "oh that's a shame. i don't think i have time for gentle" she teased as she shifted her hand in his hold and moved to clasp her fingers around his wrist too and she moved to tug him toward the licorice snaps. "lets see how hard they bite .. then maybe we can work out a comparison to yours" she said with a wink as she turned her head back to him.

W hat on earth was that look she had on her face? The one thing Émile hadn’t stopped doing from the start of their conversation was looking away from her face. There were small tells here and there about what she was actually thinking, the small teases sometimes replaced something else entirely, if only for a brief second or two. When he had switched his hold from her waist to her wrist, there was one of those micro-expressions that he was sure he had missed quite a few times already. It was too quick though for him to fully understand, but it didn’t take an educated guess to somewhat understand it. For some reason, that’s what had intrigued him the most about her so far. Émile matched her grin as she said she looked forward to it. Their little game back and forth was hard to tell what was serious, or just trying to one up the other person. So far it seemed like a mix of both to him. His mouth opened slightly in surprise as she said it was a shame that he was gentle. Oh she was a good catch. “Like I said, gentle can change.” He tried not to sound cocky saying that, far from his typical banter, but it still came out that way. It was hard not to, considering the topic they were on. Without reacting much, he felt Ripley flip her hand out his, and switched the roles they were in. He had a hard time holding back a smile as she started to pull him off towards the candy. “I think I’d be hard pressed to turn that idea down.” He responded, smile widening again as she winked at him. This was much more fun than simply buying candy ever would have been. Apparently taking an interest in the red-head as she was laying on the table in the library had been a good idea after all.

@emile “Like I said, gentle can change.” she hoped it did. if there was one thing she wasn't it was delicate. she hated when people assumed that about her. that she couldn't handle tough. though it was always entertaining when she proved people's thoughts about her as wrong. it was sweet to watch. she nodded her head slightly as she tugged him to the licorice snaps and took one in her fingers so it couldn't bite her and put it into her mouth, biting down on it quickly and eating it. “I think I’d be hard pressed to turn that idea down.” she laughed as she swallowed it and she nodded a little. "well .. it is a good idea." she said with a slight smirk as she reached across the bowl to take another one quickly in her fingers but this one nipped her. she jumped slightly and narrowed her eyes at it, shoving it into her mouth without much thought on how it would look to the outside world and she cringed a little as it bit her tongue. she chewed it and swallowed it down, deciding that it could have been worse.
even though they had reached the candy she kept her fingers clasped around his wrist, not wanting to let him go just yet. there was something nice about how this was going. it was fun. fun she could do. fun she loved. "hmm not much bite. yours will have to be more impressive" she said when she'd decided that it had been too easy to eat. she moved to take a licorice stick in her fingers and she looked at emile, her brown eyes searching his for just a second as she took a bite of the candy, chewing it slowly for a second before swallowing and she put the candy back in her teeth, with enough left for emile to bite off if he so chose too. she stretched up on her tip toes so she was eye level with him and she raised a brow at him and the side of her mouth quirked into a half smile, half smirk, an invitation that he should take a bite.

L etting Ripley lead him to the licorice snaps, he watched as she plucked a few out of the bowl and popped them into her mouth, crunching down on them before they could do the same to her. While she continued to observe the licorice snaps, he grabbed a few, each one separately chomping away at his skin. None of them broke through, but it felt like having hundreds of little needles pressing hard enough that it simulated a biting feeling. Unfortunately that seemed to be a commonality for both of them, as Ripley jumped slightly from one of them too. Émile let out a small chuckle as she crushed it immediately in her mouth. Those little suckers never lasted long when they really started to get vicious. He took one last one out of the bowl as they moved slightly over to the licorice sticks, which were practically next door. This one didn’t last nearly as long as the handful either, Émile instead opting to snap it in two between his molars. He had thought that the decent amount of licorice snaps they had just consumed would be enough for that kind of candy for a long time. He wasn’t exactly as fond of licorice as he was with other sweets, though he could tolerate it, whereas a lot of people couldn’t. Émile grinned again as Ripley mentioned that his bite would have to be more impressive. Now that he had a good idea about what he was being compared to, he knew he had a shot of winning the Krum girl over. Although it was starting to look she was beating him to it. Licorice stick in hand, or mouth, since that seemed to be where it was going now, Ripley evened herself out to his height, expecting him to understand what was going on. Bold, that’s what she was. He understood the invitation all too well. Leaning forward slightly, he paused for a few seconds, teeth right up against the other end of the licorice stick, grinning even more as he did so. Teasing her for a few seconds longer wouldn’t hurt, would it? Staring into Ripley’s eyes, he finally took the bite.

@emile as he brought his teeth to the end of the licorice stick, ripley held fast, her eyes staring into his as she waited for him to make his move. she wanted to see how far he would let her push him. she had to admit though this was a lot of fun, the back and forth that had started between them was so much more than it had been when she had asked him to suck blindly on a lolly. he had done it without a thought and while she know it had been almost too much for him he had held fast. which she thought was pretty cool, she was like that. too stubborn to give in. like now. so she waited, he was teasing her, she could see that so she started to pull the licorice back slightly, just a little as his teeth came down upon the black candy and she smiled as she bit her teeth through it and snaked her hand up quickly to catch the back of his neck. she didn't take her eyes from his as she stretched up a little more on her tiptoes and pressed her lips against his, swallowing the licorice as she kissed him in the middle of honeydukes. she hoped he wouldn't recoil back from her in disgust, though she doubted he would. he seemed to be pretty game for anything, after all he had just bitten licorice from her mouth, but this was bold even for her.

H e didn’t like taking chances that he didn’t know the outcome of. It was one thing if someone else got the better of him midway through and ended up winning, but if there was no chance to start with, then it was never worth the effort. Ripley though, was one of those ones where taking a chance seemed to work out. Émile hadn’t exactly anticipated today to turn out like this, but he wasn’t one to complain when things started to work in his favor. Since they first talked in the library, he had taken a keen interest in her, and now here she was, standing in front of him, eye to eye, in a candy shop, as both of them had a tight hold on opposite ends of a licorice stick. There had definitely been stranger situations he had been in with girls back at Beauxbatons, but none of them felt remotely the same as this one did. While there was a game-like aspect to it all, Ripley was holding her own, if not ahead of him, at every step. The same could have been said about their meeting in the library, as she skipped out of there, leaving him behind. Now though, they seemed to be on the same page, something that each moment today had led up to. As she snapped her part of the licorice off and reached a hand around his neck, he knew where it was going. Immediately dropping the remainder of the licorice stick from his mouth, not wanting any more of that kind of candy, he followed Ripley’s movements, placing his free hand around her waist and pulling her closer as he returned the kiss. Like he had thought earlier, she wasn’t like the other girls he had dated or been with back home. She was more his equal; while there was definitely playfulness, there wasn’t the one-sided debauchery that seemed to accompany the Beauxbatons girls. Not wanting to be the first one to pull away, but doing it anyways, he looked at her grinning. Reversing the hold she had on his other hand back to his control, he smiled again. “I don’t think biting is as publically acceptable as kissing is. How about we find somewhere else for that?” Turning around quickly with Ripley still in his hold and with a few strange looks from the other customers, off they went. ((The End? ))
