Hermione couldn’t help but smile to herself as she made her way down the hallway to the short walk towards her niece Victoire Weasley’s office. After Caden Leonato had decided to move his family abroad last week, Victoire had asked her aunt to step into the role of Senior Undersecretary. Hermione had of course accepted immediately, even though it created a hole as the Head of Magical Law Enforcement. However, she had plenty of faith in her young Deputy Head Rachel, and she was still covering the big cases while the search for a new Head commenced. While to some, the workload may be stressful, but after what Hermione Granger had been through, this wouldn’t make her lose sleep at night.
She stopped in front of Victoire’s door and knocked twice briskly. “Victoire? It’s Hermione,” she called, dropping the aunt; at the office she had always insisted on her niece calling her just Hermione to remind people that she got there due to perseverance and bravery instead of nepotism. She waited patiently for her niece to respond.

Victoire had left the door open a little this afternoon. so when Hermione knocked it swung open a little. Her two guards at the door didn't bother to ask Hermione of clearance, they weren't stupid. Still, they would keep a small eye on her to make sure that she was in fact the real Hermione Granger. "Come in!" Vic called, lifting her wand to command the door to open all the way, revealing her aunt.
Vic had loved Caden and had loved working with him, but she couldn't deny that her heart was full with the idea of working with her Aunt. Vic always felt a sense of relief upon seeing Hermione, something that she'd felt even as a child. Hermione was one of the people she looked up to most in the world, and one of the people who deserved it more than anyone else. If Victoire ever stepped down, she shuddered at the thought, Hermione would be her first choice from the new Minister and Vic would endorse her wholeheartedly. In fact, Vic almost thought Hermione would do a better job then she did.
Almost.
"Aunt Hermione, how are you?" she asked, standing from her desk but not coming around.

A smile grew on Hermione's lips as Victoire opened the door wide. The transition to Senior Undersecretary had been almost instantaneous with Caden's move out of the country, but Hermione had always enjoyed a challenge. "I've brought us some lunch since we have a plethora of topics to cover," she said briskly, holding out a paper shopping bag and setting it on the ground. Inside were sandwiches, crisps, and some cookies and pickles, Hermione's favorite. She set her stack of papers down on the opposite side of Vic's desk. "So, what I have on the agenda today is reviewing the First Tasks positives and negatives with security, transitions, and accidents, moving onto the Yule Ball and what we plan on doing for that, and oh yes, I've been hearing that a certain Metamorphmagi is back in your life?" she rattled off her to-do list, adding in the last one with a small smirk. She'd always loved Victoire and Teddy as a couple; they were perfectly complimentary to each other in every way. Ron of course couldn't keep a secret from his wife and had told her one night a week ago when he came to meet her at her new office. "We can start with the last order of business if you like," she said casually, picking up one of the wrapped sandwiches in the bag, unwrapping the wax paper, and taking a bite.

Victoire smiled gratefully as Hermione mentioned that she brought lunch. "You're so thoughtful," Vic said. She looked up at her Aunt as she started to list off the things they needed to discuss, nodding at each one. She didn't even notice at first that Hermione had tossed Teddy in there, since the tone seemed the same as the rest of the list. But that smirk made Vic blink and go back over what was just said.
Then Hermione suggested they start with that and Vic chuckled, taking a sandwich for herself. "There isn't much to discuss in that regard, really," Victoire said slowly. She smirked a little herself and sighed, sitting back down in her chair, "he's back, we're back, everything's good," she explained. Sort of, not really going into detail.

Hermione looked at her niece apprasingly. “Well thank Merlin you kids figured it out.” She went back to eating her sandwich; she had never been one to gush about romance or talk so much about relationships since she was someone who wanted people to take her seriously in the workplace. However, Teddy and Victoire just seemed to fit together perfectly, and her niece already seemed far happier which was all Hermione could ever wish for.
Wiping her mouth and hands, Hermione pulled out the reports from the Aurors on duty during the First Task. “So, in terms of the students safety, all seemed to have gone smoothly during the First Task. Being able to see what was going on in the maze this time around proved incredibly beneficial; one student had a panic attack due to one of the Durmstrang students’ hurdles, but according to the report she was his cousin, and seeing what he faced, it’s quite understandable.”
Here she paused; the next report was from Finn Jordan that had been filed several days after the Task, for good reason. “Finally, as you know, one of our Aurors originally stationed at the school, Railynn Stughtattle, disappeared from Hogsmeade without a trace. Another Auror, Finn Jordan, went off a lead from being friends with Ms. Stughtattle and went to question a Mr. Uriah Stark; the girls brother. While originally Mr. Jordan did not seek permission to leave to look for Ms. Stughtattle, he did file a report with excrutiating detail after she was found. I believe personally that Mr. Jordan realized that time was of the essence in tracking down Ms. Stughtattle, and do not recommend any form of punishment, seeing as we’ve now been told that the girl was turned into a vampire; she’s currently finishing a stay at Saint Mungos.” Hermione stopped talking, her eyes locked with Victoires. She plucked a pickle that had been wrapped in tinfoil off the desk and bit into it, crunching as she waited for her nieces’ reaction to her report.

Vic nodded, happy at Hermiones approval of the relationship. She didn't really know how to get into it, though, and gushing wasn't normally her thing either. Only in the right crowd. Then Hermione pulled out some reports and Vic leaned forward to look at them, being sure her food didn't drip on them or anything. "That's good. I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it," she said with a frown, "I was dealing with some important things here, as you know, but as Minister I'll try to show support at the later tasks, of course."
Then, Hermione spoke about Railynn and her having gone missing. The vampire part Vic didn't know and she let out a small gasp at first. She pulled the reports toward her, eyes still on Hermione's for a moment before looking down at the pages and skimming it. "No, I don't think any action is necessary. We all have to admit sometimes that breaking the rules is the only way to get things done," she knew her Aunt Hermione could attest to this, considering her own adventures with Harry and Ron in the past.
Vic looked back up at her, "is Railynn adjusting well? Will she stay on the force?"

Hermione gave her a swift nod. “That’s alright, Cornelius Fudge only came for the Third Task back when I was at school, and even then he only came because of the whole Bartemius Crouch disappearing debacle. Though him being there did set in motion a lot of what was to come I suppose.” One of her predecessors, Fudge had filled in as a Triwizard Judge when Barty Crouch disappeared; of course they’d learn later that night that Crouch had been murdered by his own son, but at the time they didn’t know that. Still, she thought it would be nice for Victoire to be seen at the Task; it would certainly give her cousin Anna a spark of happiness knowing Vic was there. “Plus I’m sure Louis and Dominique would be overjoyed seeing you at the school; perhaps you can ensure Louis doesn’t get any wild ideas,” she said, a smile quirking at her lips. She’d noticed how much of a daredevil her nephew was early on; she was sure that Victoire was secretly relieved Louis was sixteen and unable to participate in the Tournament.
Hermione nodded, back to business as Victoire agreed with her. “I will let Harry know of your decision; Railynn will be coming back to the Ministry offices when she is given the okay to leave the hospital. I believe her intention would be to go back to Hogwarts when she feels ready, but I am not certain even she knows when that may be. In the end, it’s her decision on whether or not she feels prepared to be around that many people again,” she said, then took a breath. “The other part is the Yule Ball; I know Mr. Jordan had planned on taking Ms. Stughtattle as his...well he put it in air quotations, ‘date’ to the ball. But I want to know if you had any opinion on the matter. I think if Railynn is feeling up to it, then she should go." She took a bite of her sandwich and chewed thoughtfully, waiting for her nieces’ response.

Victoire nodded as Hermione explained that Fudge only went to one task. From what she heard, he wasn't really the best Minister of Magic and therefore Victoire immediately felt like she had to go to the second AND third task just to prove in a small way that she was vetter than him. He was a coward and Victoire certainly was not, not even close.
Then, at the mention of her siblings, Vic smiled, "well, I can't really stop Lou. I've tried in the past and I realized it was rather futile, so I don't think I'll be bothering with that," she chuckled, "however, I'm just glad that he's not a champion. I mean, I'm sure he'd love it but it's just not my favorite idea. Even Anna being Champion is a stretch but, alas, it had to be a Weasley, didn't it?" the statistics of Weasleys in the school made it almost impossible for it not to be.
"Well, I hope that the girl isn't beating herself up to much," Vic said with a frown. Vic considered her aunts next words for a moment, "I think that if Railynn feels ready then she should go, as long as Finn is willing to keep an eye on her, so to speak."

Hermione chuckled as Victoire talked about her brother. “It certainly did, we definitely had enough of them entered,” she agreed with a small smile. She wasn’t surprised that Louis had been disappointed that he could not have entered his name in the Goblet of Fire, but for Victoire’s sake, she was glad he wasn’t. Still, worrying about Anna was definitely something on Hermione’s mind, though she had no doubt that Percy Weasley’s daughter was more than up to the task.
“I agree with you; Railynn has proven in the past that she has plenty of self-control. She’d know better if she couldn’t handle herself at the Ball and tell Finn she wouldn’t come. I don’t think it’ll come to that though - there have been no incidents, so to speak. I think it’d be good for her to see the people she had started her Auror training with, plus as a recent graduate of Hogwarts, I’m sure she still has many friends there,” Hermione told Victoire with a short nod. “Will you be attending the ball Victoire?” she asked her niece after a beat.

"They practically run the school right now. Luckily, my children won't have the name," she laughed, "not that I don't love it! But we both know that it brings a lot of... expectations and pre-conceived notions. Granted, Lupin might not be much better..." in reality the Lupin name wasn't aggressively famous, though, so it would probably be not as big of an issu- her cheeks started flushing red quickly as she realized what she had just said. Her. Kids. Teddy. Teddy's last name. She cleared her throat, "anyway," she muttered.
She was glad that Railynn was in control now and that she'd be making it to the ball to prove it. At least she had Finn. Then Hermione asked if Vic was attending and she shook her head, "Teddy and I were actually planning on holding the fort down here at the Ministry that night," she explained.

Hermione didn’t say anything when Victoire casually mentioned her children having the Lupin name; in fact there was no reaction whatsoever except for a small quirk of a smirk gracing her lips. She’d be lying if she said that her, Ron and Harry hadn’t had lengthy conversations about Teddy and Victoire’s relationship, and Hermione had been one of the ones betting on them to go the distance. But Victoire was looking awkward, so it was best to let the conversation go towards work related issues rather than her niece’s relationship. “That’s fair, someone needs to, and it's easier to not do it alone,” she agreed, then chuckled. “It will be interesting to actually attend a Yule Ball with your Uncle Ron; he should have asked me to go with him our fourth year but his head was too focused on other things so Viktor Krum swooped in and asked first,” she remembered fondly. She still had a good friendship with Viktor, and Ron was finally not always being rude in front of them. Progress was progress she supposed.
She shuffled her papers to bring up the issues surrounding the Second Task. “For the Second Task, these letters of request require your signature and office seal to be approved by both the French and Bulgarian Ministry. Then we’ll be able to get everything squared away with plenty of time to breathe,” she said, spreading out the three forms that required Victoire’s attention.

Vic was incredibly grateful that her aunt didn't press the 'Lupin Last Name' issue. She knew Hermione was incredibly close to Ted's father back in the day, and she loved Teddy, and would probably be thrilled if Victoire and him ended up getting married. She knew Harry would be thrilled, too. Hell, her whole family would. They loved Remus and they loved Teddy. Victoire was still heart broken at times that she never got to meet Ted's father... but, then again, he barely did either.
Victoire laughed, "oh, the Drama of your Yule Ball back in the day. Uncle Ron has told us the story many times," she chuckled, her laugh dying out. "I hope you two have a spectacular time," she said. "Have you been in contact with Viktor? I know his children all attend Hogwarts. It would be so odd if one of them dating one of yours," she laughed again. Oh the awkward teenage romances of her relatives.
Victoire looked down at the letters than needed approval and nodded. She focused on them, reading each word, taking her time before signing and sealing them. "Excellent, I hope everything is going smoothly with Padma?" who, incidentally, Uncle Ron had taken to the Yule Ball back in their day.

Hermione couldn't help but laugh along with Victoire as she mentioned the 'drama' of the Yule Ball they had all attended. Vic's mother Fleur had been there as well, escorted by a Ravenclaw whose name escaped her at the moment. He played Quidditch or something, she believed. It had been before Fleur and Bill had been introduced, back when Fleur was Champion for Beauxbatons. "Yes, but without the drama, perhaps your Uncle Ron and I would never have ended up together," she said with a small smile. Indeed, she had been so angry at Ron that night she'd blurted out that he should have asked her before someone else did, and not as a last resort. She'd finally gotten him to admit he was right years later, but looking back it had been the start of Hermiones' realization that her feelings towards Ron Weasley were more than merely friendly.
At the mention of Viktor Krum, Hermiones' smile widened. "Yes, we're still friends; his wife Elena is a lovely woman. She attended Durmstrang too, but due to the schools'....reputation she made the decision for them to move over to England so the kids could go to Hogwarts instead. We see them as often as we can usually without the kids, and mostly without your uncle either. He still can be a bit.....well you know," she said with a small shrug. Though Hermione could stand to be around Lavender Brown, especially after she married their friend Seamus, Ron still was always weird around Viktor. And very affectionate; Hermione didn't hate that though. "Sadly, Rosie never showed any interest in Nikolai, she inherited her fathers' prejudice against the Krums. She and their oldest girl Irina really do not like each other. It's a shame really, because they are very similar even if Rosie would say otherwise," she told Victoire with a chuckle. "Hugo is...well I think deep down we've always sort of known he was in love with Xanthippe Meagle. It just took him longer than the rest of us to see it," she added. Xanthippe was the daughter of one of Hermiones' best friends, and if Hugo's vision came true, she would be her daughter-in-law one day too.

Vic was a little sad that drama happened at all, but she understood what her aunt meant. Her and Teddy had their own drama, plenty of it. Especially when he told her he loved her a few months ago and she freaked out... not her strongest moment. But that was past now.
She was glad Hermione and Viktor were still friends. It was sad that Rose didn't take for the Krums though, even as friends, apparently. Hugo had his girlfriend and everything seemed well. "Well, I think things are overall going well for the family, as far as I can tell," she meant the whole family, but she knew some things were not going well. Ondina and Xavier were still the most distant. Albus coming in at a close second with some of them. Not with her, of course.
"Anything else we need to go over?" she asked, her smile soft and back to a businesslike state again.

Hermione nodded and chuckled a little when Victoire said that overall things were going well with the family. She didn't know how much Vic knew about Rose's predicament with Scorpius Malfoy; she still hadn't worked out which cousins, if any, she had confided in. Certainly not Ondina - not only had the two never been close but she was quite sure Ondina had dated Scorpius not too long ago. She wondered if Scorp just had a fancy for Weasley women; she thought briefly of a scenario where he took on Lily and she chuckled to herself a little bit. She decided it would be prudent not to say anything to Victoire at the moment though, just in case. "Overall yes, with such a huge family though we're bound to have a bit of drama aren't we?" she said with a small smirk.
Hermione glanced over her notes to ensure she hadn't missed anything; as usual, she hadn't. "Nothing business related, no," she said, putting away her papers into her sleek black leather briefcase. It had been a gift from Ron when she'd been named Senior Undersecretary; her old one had been rather battered and careworn. She had been eyeing this particular one when she and Ron had had a dinner date night the weeks preceding the announcement, and she had been pleasantly surprised he had remembered. "But how are you doing? And your siblings, is Louis still in one piece?" she asked, then sighed. "And poor Dominique, the darling has had an awful time the past months." Both her questions were understatements; she'd never seen someone as reckless as Louis Weasley. And Dominique, she had been in love with the Muggleborn who Elaine Dupree had murdered. She remembered when Ron had almost died after consuming poison and how awful she had felt; she couldn't imagine how she had felt if he had not made it.
