@jamie “No, singing isn’t necessary. Unless you can mimic instruments.” That would actually be pretty impressive if she could do that. Surely there was a charm of some sort that could pull that off, if not a prank item. “Grew up learning ballroom and that stuff, don’t think I need to tell you why.” Scorpius didn’t mean to sound smug if he had, but that was the nature of who he was. Being filthy rich meant he had the luxury of learning things the common rabble otherwise wouldn’t. It was surprising to hear that it was actually easier without music. Wasn’t dancing all about being in step with the music? Sure there were other kinds of dancing out there, but they all seemed to be focused on the music that accompanied it. Quite the interesting take on it, to not be constrained, especially by music.
Scorpius nodded his head as Jamie explained to try and loosen up whatever it was that was the tensest with him. He had to think about that one for a little bit. Definitely his neck. Or entire face in general. Most of the time it had to do with not being able to think clearly and critically, especially when it came to Rose and Ondina. Those combinations didn’t really work out well together. “If it’s my neck, should I try and stretch it or something? I don’t really want to get whiplash from trying to relax.” Scorpius laughed.

Jamie was a little relieved that Scorpius said that she didn’t have to sing. That probably would have ended up being embarrassing, and then she’d have to dance for even longer. Not that she didn’t love dancing, but even Jamie knew that she was going to catch a cold eventually, especially since she had insisted on throwing her cloak away. “I could try to mimic instruments, but it probably wouldn’t be much good.” Jamie said with a little laugh. Scorpius said that he grew up learning ballroom, and Jamie shrugged. She understood why, but Scorpius didn’t need to be made to feel any particular way just because he grew up with pureblood customs, just like Jamie didn’t need to be made to feel any particular way just because she grew up with Muggle customs despite her half-wizard heritage.
Jamie snorted when Scorpius asked if he should do something different because he held tension in his neck. “Stretching it would probably be better, yes.” She said, though she would’ve thought that someone like Scorpius would have known that without saying. “You can also do stuff with your shoulders, since the muscle groups are connected.” Hopefully Scorpius knew that much already from Quidditch, but given his comment about whiplash, Jamie wasn’t sure.

@jamie If mimicking instruments wasn’t going to sound good, then there was no reason to try it. He could just try without music. There was always a first for everything, right? In a way, it would be like relearning dancing all over again. The same motives, methods, everything, just seen in a new light. Scorpius was positive that he could pull this off, especially since it was supposedly going to help with his wellbeing. Physical activity was what he needed, and dropping Quidditch probably hadn’t been the smartest move in the world. Unfortunately academics came first, and so did Prefect duties.
He thought about neck stretches that could work. Jamie briefly mentioned the part about shoulders and the muscle groups with them as well. That made sense. Again, if he had only stayed playing, none of this would be an issue. Flying was an unbelievable stress reliever. Now it was time to figure out if dancing was as well.
Rolling his neck around a few times, Scorpius could feel slight resistance here and there. He was definitely out of shape. Adding some motion to his shoulders, he could tell that things were starting to loosen up here and there. It actually wasn’t nearly as bad as he had anticipated it would be. Getting a little tune going in his head, even though he was sure he wasn’t supposed to do that, Scorpius started bobbing his head to it. Stopping almost as soon as he started, he looked back at Jamie, a tone of surprise in his voice. “Something like that?”

Watching Scorpius Malfoy dance was not something that Jamie had ever anticipated doing, but now that she was doing it, it was fascinating. You could tell so much about a person by how they danced, Jamie mused, and when you coupled Scorpius’s dancing style with how long it had taken him to actually begin dancing in the first place, Jamie thought you could easily paint a picture of a pureblooded boy who might not have learned all the way how to have fun. Jamie smiled as she watched Scorpius begin to move, a soft smile that held something akin to pride in it. She knew how hard it was to try something new, especially when you had such great expectations for it, like it being able to solve all of your problems. She was proud of Scorpius for giving her insane idea an chance, and for actually being a pretty good dancer despite all of his protests to the contrary.
Scorpius stopped dancing and turned to Jamie, and she nodded vigorously before Scorpius to get into his head that he wasn’t doing something right. “Exactly like that! Just keep going!” Jamie encouraged. “And I’ll join you, too, if you don’t mind.” That way he wouldn’t have to worry about her looking at him, if that was still some sort of concern.

@jamie The smile he saw was obviously an indication that things were going right. The head nod solidifying all of it. The best part? He completely understood what Jamie was talking about now. Forgetting everything that had been bugging him, building up inside. It wasn’t just the physical activity part of it. That was a portion still, but not all of it by any means. Letting it all out, the tension, the emotions (which thankfully had stayed inside him), everything. He was even at a point where the rain had all but disappeared from his mind. Pouring down around them, it was their music more than anything else. There was just a constant beat as it drummed on the ground around them, and that was all Scorpius needed to continue. “Of course. Then we can look like we’re both out of our minds.” He didn’t really care at this point anyways. If anyone was even watching in the first place, they’d probably think…well, he wasn’t sure what they would think. But it wouldn’t bother him at this point anyways. There were more important things at hand, like getting all the negativity out.
Scorpius wasn’t sure how much time had passed since he and Jamie started dancing around. The rain had stopped at some point, but that hadn’t caused him to cease the dancing. The tune the beating rain had made wasn’t necessary after a little while, but it was still fun to dance around in the water. Finally stopping, Scorpius looked around to see where Jamie had made her way off to. He hadn’t really paid much attention to his own antics, having somehow moved a good distance away from the castle and their starting point. He was pretty sure he spotted her nearby. “Jamie! I think it worked!” He yelled towards her, his voice echoing off the wet castle walls. He didn’t think it had worked. He knew it worked.

Jamie just shook her head when Scorpius said they could both look like they were out of their minds. She didn’t look like she was out of her mind when she was dancing – she looked like she was having a good time. Then again, that was so foreign to some people that they would think she was insane. Huh – Jamie had never thought about that before. The rain kept beating down around them, and Jamie smiled at Scorpius before she began to dance again, wild and crazy and a sort of free she hadn’t felt in a long, long while.
Somehow in their dancing, Jamie and Scorpius had gotten pretty far from the castle. Jamie needed to go back to their original starting spot eventually and grab her abandoned cloak and shoes, but right now, she was just excited to hear Scorpius’s voice. He sounded…excited? Yes, that was a good way to put it. They had separated a little as time had went on, so Jamie jogged over to where Scorpius was, beaming. “I told you it would!” She said gleefully. “Have a little faith, Scorp.”

@jamie A little faith. If that was all it took, then he could do that. And not just with dancing to get everything out, but in how he acted around others. Believing in himself to put things back the way they were supposed to be. To fix them and ensure they weren’t going to break again. At a fundamental level, that meant Scorpius had to change who he was as a person. He needed to push away the idea that he could do whatever he wanted to because of who he was. That was immature, and something his father had been trying to tell him for years. So far it hadn’t really affected him too much, but it was starting to look like there were issues in the romance department and how he handled himself around the girls in his life. Out with the old and in with the new. No more Ondina, her more recent antics had sealed the deal on that one, and the focus was going to be on winning back Rose’s trust, if it was even lost in the first place. Scorpius had a feeling it was a little bit, especially after their encounter with Ondina.
“Shouldn’t have doubted you on it. Who would have guessed it was that simple.” Maybe it was the little things in life that relieved the most stress. He was always concentrating on making his next move, kind of like a game of chess, that learning to step back and relax, forgetting about things for a few minutes, was normal and healthy. “Shall we head back up?” Scorpius pointed to the castle, which was quite a ways off. Apparently losing track of distance and time was another side effect of the dancing. No complaints from him, seeing as it beat sitting around and doing homework.

Jamie smiled when Scorpius said that he shouldn’t have doubted her. Damn right he shouldn’t have. “Sometimes the most complicated of problems only have the simplest of solutions.” She told him with a smile. Scorpius definitely looked like he was less stressed, and Jamie hoped that the changes were at least semi-permanent. It stunk to do something that you considered ridiculous – like dancing, in Scorpius’s case – only to have it not give the benefits you wanted it to. Scorpius suggested going back to the castle, and Jamie nodded. “I’m probably late for something.” She told Scorpius, probably too chipper for the fault that she was admitting. Jamie grabbed her soggy cloak from the ground, and wrung it out before setting her course for the castle. She was considering putting on her shoes, but she wasn't sure she wanted to do what she was planning with her feet in gross, water-saturated shoes. “You don’t mind if I run, do you?” Jamie asked Scorpius. If she really was late for something, like a Quidditch practice or club meeting, she wanted to minimize just how late she was. She understood why Scorpius wouldn’t want to join her in running, though, hence why she asked.

@jamie Simple solutions for complicated problems...if he had been told that yesterday, he might have scoffed at the idea. But now, now he was starting to understand all of it. There was still a ways to go in fixing everything up though. At least he hoped he could. If starting new was the solution, then he had to be prepared for that as well. The dancing had cleared his mind, something that hadn’t happened in a long time. That was probably a sign of sorts that he needed to get out of his own headspace more often. The constant critical thinking and analysis, whether it was for work, play, or life; it needed to slow down. Scorpius needed to take his time with all of this and figure it out step by step instead of jumping three or four steps ahead.
He nodded at Jamie as she said she was probably late for something. To be honest, he probably was as well. Today had been a lot though, so he was going to take the rest of the day off regardless of plans. Prefect duties would allow him more time to think as well, and he never really had to write students up for being out late. Warnings and a slap on the wrist was all he was capable of today anyways. “Of course not,” he responded to her question. “Thanks again. Definitely going to be finding time to do this again if I need it.” He raised his hand in a wave. The rest of the day was going to be spent carefully thinking over everything once again. He had the tools to make things right, now it was the application of all of it.
