There were only a few days left until the Yule Ball, and Roxanne Weasley still did not have a date. She had thought that Viola might ask her, but that hadn’t happened, and she wasn’t going overthink it. Really, she wasn’t. But everyone seemed to be pairing up, and while she hadn’t thought she’d mind going to the Ball alone, she was starting to realise that not having a date and alone were different things, and while she was fine with one, she wasn’t dreadfully impressed with the other. She wasn’t sure how sitting in the courtyard was going to help her with her dilemma, especially when everything was quite so cold, but it had felt like a good idea, and she was going to give it a few more minutes before she went in search of somewhere warmer. She spotted Cordelia then, and waved at the other girl, beckoning her over. As she did, the seed of an idea occurred to her, and her smile lit up. cordelia regan smith

@roxanne Everyone seemed to be in the Christmas spirit. Cordelia, not as much as the rest. She had helped Professor Zhu obtain a Christmas tree at the start of the month and that had been quite the experience to say the least. She had never really thought much about the holiday because her parents were obstinate when it came to leaving decorations up longer than the day before and after Christmas Day. She realized this year that it was completely different for everyone else, and for the most part there was a general cheer and happiness about it.
Today was no different than most of the other days in December. At least it was nice enough out that wandering around outside didn’t make her look like she was crazy. Not that it was warmer than normal, just not as blustery or frigid like it had gotten over the past few weeks. Calling it bearable seemed apt. Good weather meant she was wandering outside taking pictures. There were far too many people inside afraid to brave the cold. As long as she could move her fingers, taking pictures was easy. And it got her away from the rest of the students.
Crossing the courtyard, Cordelia spotted someone in the distance motioning to her. She had virtually ignored the other few people outside, not that they had anything converse about in the first place. Turning to see who it was, she was surprised to be met with Roxy. That was better than a stranger trying to talk to her. Quickly making her way over to the bench that Roxy was sitting at, Cordelia smiled. “Hello.” She looked around to see if her friend was with anyone else. “N-Nice weather isn’t it?” Or at least better than what it had been.

“It’s a bit cold, but apart from that, it’s lovely, yeah.” There was little wind and nothing falling from the sky, the crisp cold was refreshing, even - but it was still cold, and Roxy wasn’t wearing enough layers to be able to stay out too long. But now she had Cordelia’s attention, she needed to pitch her on her idea. “So hey,” she said, bright and cheery. “Are you looking forward to the Yule Ball?” She hoped Cordelia was, because she was, and the whole castle seemed to be, and asking Cordelia if she’d want to come with her was not going to be super easy if Cordelia didn’t want to go. cordelia regan smith(ooc: and wow it is short, but it is something, finally, hurrah!)

@roxanne At the mention of it being a little cold, Cordelia found herself wrapping her arms around herself. It was mostly unconscious, but the more it sank in, the more she realized that it was relatively chilly out. Like she had thought when she first stepped outside, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been this time of year though. Surely in years past it had been almost uninhabitable during the winter months. The castle didn’t help either, always having some kind of chilly breeze or drift swirling around inside. One would think someone would figure out how to keep it properly heated throughout the winter, but no, they had to suffer within those cold, stony walls. At least the common rooms were comfy. Her train of thought was interrupted as Roxy caught her attention again. Looking up at her, Cordelia nodded her head slowly as she processed the question. Was she looking forward to the ball? She hadn’t really thought about it too much. She had to mentally correct herself; she hadn’t really thought about going. Most of the thinking had been on the sheer amount of people that were going to be attending. The additional students this year had been quite the hurdle to get over at first, and one night where all of them and even more ministry workers would be a nightmare. Of course, there was the other side to it as well. This was an event that was hard to pass up. Everyone was going to be dressed up, and the food and decorations were going to be outstanding. That was prime territory for photographs. “I g-guess? I w-wasn’t planning on going because of…y-you know…I don’t have a d-d-d-date…” And even if someone had asked her, that would have been almost impossible to answer right away. [OOC: yeah....sorry for the wait too hahaha]
