@imogen Boring. That’s what work was. Ever since returning back to London over the summer, that’s all work ever was. There had been a little peak in activity at the start of the school year, but that was it. Everything went back to being boring again. Probably didn’t help that she was hungover again. That never made anything easier either. Whatever had possessed her to come home also made her turn to being reckless again. Cal hated it, so she kept going out at night, sometimes going straight from wherever she woke up to work. She had gotten smarter over the last few months, remembering to keep a bag of extra clothes to change into in her work locker. Her boss didn’t really care. She did her job, helped customers, and made money for the store. What else was there to ask her to do? Plus, despite her looks sometimes, she did have a lot of knowledge on some things, so she wasn’t completely useless. Making it this many months in proved it.
Today though, her boss was out. Business trip or something. A shipment of books had come in earlier in the day, the loud clanking of the door opening and closing had shot blistering pain through her head, but complaining would have only made it worse. The damn delivery guys had mouths on them and she wasn’t too keen on getting into a verbal argument that early in the morning, let alone hungover. After a few minutes of them thumping and pounding around the store, it was time to set everything where it belonged. Luckily magic was handy in this instance, and placing the new stock in its rightful place took mere seconds. Give or take. A couple of the books were averse to her charms and had to be tossed around before finally settling down.
Other than that though? Nothing. A few window shoppers here and there. One ancient looking wizard wanted some scroll on how to reverse mummification of a toe, in which Mina aptly asked him to show it to her, and then had him whisked away to St. Mungo’s because it was actually being eaten by flesh-eating slug larvae. She was fine with grotesque and gory things, but she almost felt bad for the decrepit man. Almost. That and Mungo’s would know what to do with it, since it was obviously not mummified. That was still puzzling her, as she had no idea what had possessed him to think it was in the first place.
Now she was almost nodding off. Only a few more hours than she could close, and then go back out after feeding the dog. She had to be quick though or Callisto would catch her home. If that happened it was goodbye nightlife for a few days. Her sister would probably physically chain her down and take her wand again. Mina hated when that happened. She wasn’t that irresponsible all the time. If she was, she wouldn’t have a job like this. That always seemed to fall on deaf ears though.
The bell to the front door jingled, a blast of cold air circling its way around the shop before finally dissipating. Mina didn’t look up from the book she had just been falling asleep on. “Welcome to Flourish and Blotts. Let me know if you need any help.” She said with the most dispassionate voice possible.

Normally, Imogen was good at coming up with excuses to visit Mina Wulfe. It was more difficult, however, to find an excuse to visit her friend slash charge when she was living in the castle, especially since security made getting in and out of the castle a hassle. She had decided that she needed to know whether Mina was alive or her liver had finally given into cirrhosis. The excuse was a legitimate one, in the end, because Imogen did need to buy a few more books, mostly pertaining to healing charms and their uses. If her experiences with Cordelia had taught Imogen anything, it was that she was woefully understudied in that particular area of charms. Even though it wasn’t under the umbrella of her job description, Imogen couldn’t help but want to be more adept at healing charms. The perfect place to get any book was, of course, Flourish and Blotts. And who happened to work there? None other than Mina Wulfe, the very person whose wellbeing Imogen needed to check upon.
When she blew into the shop, a bell tinkled cheerfully, and then she was greeted, not-so-cheerfully, by Mina herself. “So you are alive after all.” Imogen said, raising her eyebrows at Mina and hoping that she would look up so she could see Imogen’s best stern face (which she had been perfecting after nearly an entire semester of teaching). “Would it kill you to send an owl every once in a while, Mina?” Imogen asked, approaching the cashier’s counter so she could talk to her friend without shouting across the store.

@imogen Mina hadn’t expected the customer that had walked in to be Imogen. Especially not during the school year. She actually didn’t know how often the professors were given leave, especially if they had detention to run. Mina had spent quite a bit of her education in detention on the weekends. Not her fault that she liked to have more fun that everyone else. What exactly was wrong with slinking out of the common room at night to mess around a little bit? She never actually hurt anyone. Well…except for the exploding toilet incident, but how was she supposed to know that little Sophie Rosebery was too thick-headed to listen to her warnings? At least she had tried to stop the second year from going in there. Everything that happened after was merely the girl’s fault for having poor listening skills. In the end it was Mina’s fault that the other girl had been launched into the rafters of the bathroom and stayed there for ten hours straight without being helped down.
“Alive is subjective Im.” Mina stated flatly, leaning back in her chair behind the cash register. A large red mark had formed on her face where she had been leaning on her arm. Blinking a few times and letting out a yawn, she swiveled around in her chair a few times. “Probably could have drank less last night, but what’s the fun in that?” Nothing. That’s what. Living life to its fullest was her only goal. Unfortunately work had to hold her down during the day. If only money grew on trees.
She observed Imogen as she approached the counter, the look on her face sending shivers down Mina’s spine. “Stop with that look. Brings me back to school. It’s creepy that you’ve figured out how to do that already.” Along with the aforementioned detentions, the stern look was all too well known to her. That face belonged to every professor ever, and most adults for that matter, and Mina always seemed to be the target for it. She knew why, of course, but she honestly didn’t care. It just freaked her out that people still used it on her. “Probably.” She responded plainly about sending an owl. “The only one available is Callisto’s, and she’d think I was going to feed it to the dogs or something.”
Spinning around in her chair a few more times, Mina finally stopped herself and looked up at Imogen. “So whatcha need? Just here to talk too little old me? Or school shopping?” Talking was better than falling asleep. She had never had a problem with Imogen since she had basically been saved by her the majority of her adult life. Stumbled out of a club at 3am and unsure of where she was? Imogen appeared and dragged her back home. Got in a tussle with a pack of angry leprechauns in a back alley? Imogen somehow dispersed them. Of course this was all information presented to Mina from second-hand sources since she was blacked out during most of these events. “How’s teaching the kiddies? Any giving you a tough time yet?”

Imogen let out a snort when Mina said that alive was subjective. It was such a silly thing to say. She would wonder why Mina would say something like that, but the answer was pretty obvious – she was Mina, and that was the sort of thing she thought about. That, and Dakoda, probably. Mina asked what the fun would be in drinking less, and Imogen rolled her eyes. “Maybe being able to remember what you did?” Imogen suggested. “There are ways to have fun that don’t involve alcohol, Mina.” But of course Mina wouldn’t care about those things. She was rather set in her ways, it seemed.
“I’ll stop with the look when you stop doing things that are look-worthy.” Imogen said with a sigh. It was true, though, that it was strange that she had picked up the skill so quickly. It felt weird, giving the glare and knowing that she was doing it effectively, even though she hadn’t been a professor for all that long. Mina didn’t seem all too concerned with sending Imogen owls, but she rolled her eyes again when Mina insisted that the only available owl would be Callisto’s. “There are post offices, Mina.” She insisted. “And I would like not to go to sleep every night wondering if you’re subjectively alive or not.”
Mina asked what she was doing, and Imogen raised her shoulder in a shrug. “Had to get some books and wanted to get out of the castle for a while.” For a place that big, it could seem awfully claustrophobic sometimes. “The fact that you’re here is a bonus, I must admit.” Imogen said with a small smile. “Will it sound too mushy if I said that I missed you?” Imogen teased. It was strange that she didn’t have the responsibility of dragging Mina back home anymore, though Im was certain that if Mina was in enough trouble, the Hufflepuff could get out of the castle long enough to save her. As for how Imogen always knew Mina was in trouble – well, it was a sixth sense. “The kiddies are fine. It’s just different.” Imogen didn’t want to bore Mina with more talk of school.

@imogen “I think it was a blonde, but I’m not sure. I booked it the second I woke up.” She yawned. That was a joke of course. Some muscular bone-head had beat her to the blonde, assuming she would have been game in the first place. In actuality she went home and drunkenly walked her dog around the block a few times to sober up. An alternate to ‘hair of the dog’, which never seemed to work in the first place and always caused more issues than not. Either way, the dog walking hadn’t helped when she woke up that morning. “Are there though? One could say dancing is fun without alcohol, but it’s even better with it. Plus muggles are so cute when they’re lightweights.” Not her group of friends, but the ones they encountered on their adventures across the clubs of London. The best were the new university students. They were easy to pick out, looking like little awkward turtles in the scene. Mina never actively went for them, but she liked toying around and getting their hopes up. She didn’t even need alcohol to get away with it either.
“You might as well freeze it with a charm then, because that isn’t going to happen any time soon.” Unfortunate really. She had no reason to stop her lifestyle. Possible future health risks aside, nothing negative had happened outside of her issues in America, and it was easy enough to skip town and end back up in London. She really wanted to say that she hadn’t sent an owl because she was busy, but that simply wasn’t the case. It was mostly laziness. And that every time she thought of doing it, something else caught her attention and off she went. Like her trip abroad for example. That was mostly to escape all of this; boring every day monotony. It had been fun while it lasted, but her funds had been slim to begin with and only got worse as she continued. Sometimes to the point where she hadn’t had money to send an owl through the post office, even if she wanted to. She did feel rather bad about making everyone (meaning her family and Im, seeing as they were the only ones that really cared about her in the first place) worry about her but it was her lifestyle choice after all. There was no stopping her once she was committed. “Well now you know where I am, so that should make it a little easier.”
So the trip was to get books after all. Mina assumed Callisto had already mentioned to Im that she was working at the store. It only made sense after all. Everyone was always talking about her behind her back. Most likely making a game plan for when the ticking time bomb finally struck zero. It was bound to happen eventually, she knew that. But persuasions and bribes to find something else for her to do weren’t enough. No one could keep her grounded because she didn’t want to be grounded. She’d never outright admit that because it would make her sound paranoid and they would double their efforts to keep an eye on her. With Imogen teaching now, that was one less set of eyes she had always watching. One less set to keep Mina alive. “On a scale of mushy to soggy, it’s borderline soggy.” Mina returned the smile. She had missed everyone. It hadn’t kicked in until the end of her trip though, the rest of her time had been spent having a little too much fun. “Different because you’re the professor now instead of the student? Any promising ones yet?”

Imogen exhaled slowly when Mina said that she had woken up next to a blonde. She was going to rub the bridge of her nose, but she already wasn’t doing well with the whole not acting like a disappointed professor (or overbearing mother) thing. She resisted the urge, turning her hair blonde instead as she batted her eyelashes at Mina. “This the right shade of blonde?” She asked with a snort. There were times that Imogen was a little fed up with being Mina’s keeper, so of course she sometimes had to goof around with the other woman. That way she could keep up at least some pretense of being Mina’s friend instead of just following her around and dragging her out of situations that would otherwise get her killed. Imogen was more than prepared to drop the conversation about alcohol, but she couldn’t help but roll her eyes when Mina said Muggles were cute when they were lightweights. She hoped Mina didn’t pick up on that, or at least didn’t care.
“There are no charms for that.” Imogen said with a sigh. “One day, Mina, something is going to happen, and you’ll be forced to change.” But nothing was going to happen unless Imogen slipped up, and she wasn’t planning on doing that anytime soon. Of course, it probably wasn’t going to be on purpose if Imogen did slip up. It would be because she was doing something else at the school, or wasn’t permitted out for no reason other than her Mina sense was tingling, or…Imogen had to stop herself form running through worse-case scenarios. “Nothing about you is easy, Mina.” Imogen stated blandly, changing her hair from blonde to fire engine red.
Imogen smiled when Mina said that she was being borderline soggy. “I’ll take it over…I don’t know, moist.” Imogen said. There were worse things to be than borderline soggy, Imogen thought with a single nod to herself. “Different because everyone’s looking at me all the time.” Imogen couldn’t remember how much of her life story Mina had managed to figure out, but being looked at – scrutinized, really – was not Imogen’s favorite thing. “There’s one girl I like. A Hufflepuff. She likes photography and wants to become a Healer.” Imogen shrugged. “I don’t know if she likes me, though.”

@imogen The joke about waking up next to the blonde seemed to go over Im’s head, at least Mina had thought it had. The second her friend changed her hair to blonde though, it made it clear that they were somewhat on the right page. Putting her hand up to her face, she pretended up stroke a non-existent moustache. “I think it was a little darker…” Grinning, she leaned back in her chair, quickly turning the smirk into a frown as Imogen said there weren’t any charms to keep her face frozen in that state. Mina could tell that the lecture was coming before it even started. Sometimes she wondered if she switched Callisto and Im around if it would be any different. They both had a knack for telling her what to do, or at most, warning her that her lifestyle choices weren’t the best. She wasn’t stupid. She knew that there were better, healthier things to do. Only problem was that they weren’t nearly as fun. “What if something already did happen?” Mina could feel another smirk come across her face. Technically something did happen, and that’s why she was back in London. She loved teasing with questions that were borderline hypothetical. “If I was easy, then everyone would know who I am.”
Mina shuddered at the word ‘moist’. Why had Im chosen that one? There was a reason she had purposely used ‘soggy’ and ‘mushy’. Those ones didn’t send a shiver down her spine. Nodding her head as Im said teaching was different because of she was the center of attention for once. That was definitely an interesting take on it. Mina had preferred to be center of attention for other things. Standing up in front of a class and teaching little kids how to kill each other with magic wasn’t really her thing. “Ooooh a Puff! Right up your alley then. Is she one of those social butterflies or one of the…weirder ones?” She distinctly remembered there always being two sides to Hufflepuff, similar to how Slytherin had those like her, and then the intellectual side as well. Obviously one didn’t need to be both to get placed in a house. That was one of the reasons why she was practically a failure in school and yet still managed Slytherin just fine. “Being a new teacher and all, you probably came across rather strong. If she’s timid, then it might take longer. Not that I would know.” Mina shrugged, spinning around in her chair once again. She’d have to ask Bunny about this girl, assuming Im gave up a name. Stalking her friend’s little protégé would be hilarious.
“You never asked about my trip.” She pointed out, bringing her chair to a stop. Retelling the stories was always fun, especially because she could add little bits and pieces in. Im would probably see straight through it, but talking about her adventures was fun nonetheless.

Imogen chuckled at Mina when she said that the blonde’s hair had been a little darker. “Your wish is my command.” She said with a chuckle, darkening the hair by a hue or two and then grinning at Mina. It was funny, to be able to recreate whatever sort of person that she wanted to. If Imogen was a more confident person, she probably would have used that to her advantage in a romantic setting, but she wasn’t confident, nor was she interested in becoming romantically involved with someone who only wanted her for her appearance or Metamorphmagus abilities. When Mina question Im as to what the world would look like if something had happened, the professor paused to consider the question. “You’re not pregnant or dead, so I’m going to assume that nothing did happen.” Imogen finally replied, deadpan. For a moment, she felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. “…You’re not pregnant, are you?” She asked, her mind already going down some very, very dark paths. In all likelihood Mina wasn’t expecting a child, but even the thought of it began to make Imogen feel the slightest bit sick. Mina with a child was…okay, she needed to stop thinking about that before she lost what little faith in humanity she had left. Imogen simply shrugged when Mina said that if she was easy, then everyone would know who she was. Other people had standards, even if Mina didn’t.
Mina shuddered at the word moist, and Imogen smiled. It was funny how something as simple as a word could bother so many people. Then again, Imogen was sensitive to words, to – just not words like moist. “I wouldn’t call her a butterfly, no. A lot of people seem to like her, though.” It was strange how shy kids seemed to attract more attention simply because they were shy. “She’s a little obsessed with photography, so I guess you could call that weird, if you’re in a bad mood.” Imogen didn’t think it was strange to have a talent and want to use it, but what would Mina know about being talented? The closest thing she had to a talent was drinking incessantly, and that wasn’t something to put on a résumé. “Do you really think I could ever come across strong?” Imogen asked with raised eyebrows. She was about as timid as a teacher could be without being steam-rollered over.
“How was your trip, Mina?” Imogen asked obediently when Mina pointed out that she hadn’t asked about it before. She wasn’t sure she wanted to know about everything that had happened, especially since separating the fiction from the reality was going to be tedious. Possible, but tedious.

@imogen Imogen wasn’t fair. Being able to change her appearance like that at will had given her limitless ways to tease Mina. Right now was no different. Mina wasn’t going to concede victory though. “You’re almost there. You’d have to be there to really understand the shade of blonde it was.” She returned the grin. “And that doesn’t mean I give you permission to rotate through the colors until you get it right. My lips are sealed now.” Making the zipping motion, Mina spun around on her chair again. It was a good chair. Great for spinning in circles to pass the time. Waiting for Im to get to the part of something bad possibly happening to her was the best part of it all. The addition of spinning in circles had to give it a little extra flair.
She stopped the chair when Im asked her if she was pregnant. Of course she wasn’t. Hopefully. It would be funny to play along with that though, because she knew it was the question that was going to be asked. “Surprise!” She yelled, holding her arms up in the air for a few more seconds to give it an added effect. “Kidding. I’m kidding Im. Callisto barely trusts me with the dog, I know I’m not in a position where taking care of a child is smart.” More like she would actively make sure that never happened. Sarah might be able to manage it, but she never thought her older sister was the most ‘caring’ person in the world to begin with. Koda was always watching the boy because somebody wanted to run off and act like a wild child again. At least there was only a dog in Mina’s life, and it wasn’t like Callisto couldn’t take care of her as well.
More important than Mina’s nighttime extracurricular activities was Im’s pet Puff. So this one wasn’t one of the social ones. That meant she was weird, in some way or another. Im answered that question though, mentioning an obsession with photography. Wasn’t that normal? Mina had to remind herself that these weren’t muggle kids though. Technology couldn’t survive at school. All the muggles she had run into over the last year had been practically glued to their phones. Mina owned one, only because her older siblings forced her to get one so they could keep track of her. She was pretty sure they didn’t know that they couldn’t physically track her if the phone was missing its battery and GPS. She only kept it for appearances. “Hobbies aren’t bad. She won’t make it if she doesn’t open up a little more though.” Mina finished her thought and stared at Im. Could she come across as strong? That was a joke right? “You still hate Gryffindors right? I think that’s probably enough for everyone to be terrified of you.”
Finally, the real meat of their conversation. Her trip. Oh her wonderful trip. The epitome of greatness, that’s what it was. A year and a half without being told what she could and couldn’t do. She thought it was pretty amazing that she managed to return to society like this so easily. Obviously there had been a lot of long nights and drinking since she came back, but that wasn’t really anything different from what she did in the US. “It was fine.” She smiled brightly. Holding a few extra seconds, she started in, omitting the lengthier details since that would just bore Im. “Well, first I made my way across the south and into Mexico. Their magical culture is a little different, but was pretty similar to that whole nature magic stuff a lot of the native peoples are into.” She couldn’t actually remember what it was called. It had definitely been interesting though. “Then I made it to Brazil and got a tour of Castelobruxo. Pretty neat place. The headmaster wasn’t too fond of me hitting on his kid, so back to the states I went. Spent the rest of the time in New Orleans learning about voodoo and cool things like that. Killed a Rougarou, broke my wand, got this scar,” she rolled her sleeve up to show Im the scar. “And then had the voodoo lady make me a new wand from the Rougarou hair. After that I ran out of money so back I came.”

Imogen smiled a little when Mina said that she was almost there. The shade of blonde wasn’t quite right, but Mina cut Imogen off before she could cycle through every imaginable shade of blonde. “You’re always ruining my fun.” Imogen teased. It was funny, because in reality, it was Imogen who ruined Mina’s fun, and almost never vice versa. If this was how Mina felt all the time, then Imogen was beginning to understand some of her exasperation with Im. Still, it was for the better to have your fun ruined every once in a while.
Imogen’s heart damn near stopped when Mina shouted ‘surprise’. She knew, intellectually, that it probably wasn’t the truth, but emotionally, she couldn’t stop the whirlwind ripping through her before Mina back-pedaled and said she was kidding. “You’re going to give me a heart attack one of these days, Mina Wulfe.” Imogen muttered underneath her breath. That probably wasn’t true, but whatever. “I wouldn’t trust you with a dog either.” Im added. She tended to agree with Callisto on a lot of things when it came to Mina, which was no surprise, since both Imogen and Callisto took it upon themselves to temper some of Mina’s wildness. “Maybe I’ll let you pet sit my owl sometime, though.” Imogen suggested. At least owls could hunt on their own if they weren’t fed.
Mina said that hobbies weren’t bad, and Imogen nodded in agreement. She was currently seeking a hobby, but that didn’t seem to be something worth mentioning at the moment. It was the opening up bit that Imogen was going to pay more attention to. “I’ve been trying, but it’s kind of hard to coax someone out of their shell without scaring them further back into it.” It was a slow, tedious process, and Imogen wasn’t sure that she was the right one to be doing the coaxing. Mina asked her if she still hated Gryffindors, and the Metamorphmagus rolled her eyes. “I don’t say anything about it.” Imogen said with a sniff. It would be improper for a professor to show preference to one house over another, and she had been trying really, really hard to curb some of her anti-Gryffindor sentiments. “I even helped a Gryffindor!” Imogen added, not sure why she was getting so defensive. Mina must have remembered why she hated Gryffindors so much, right? She had only been a first year when everything had transpired, but Imogen had been the talk of the school for at least a week, and not in a good way. That had been a Gryffindor’s fault.
Mina began by saying her trip was fine, though in a tone that implied that it was a lot better than fine. Imogen waited for Mina to go into more detail, and she wasn’t disappointed. Mina described her trek through Mexico, noting that the magical culture was different. She then made her way through Brazil, visiting the magical school there, and after being kicked out, went back to America. It was Mina’s time in the States that intrigued Imogen the most. “How did you kill a Rogarou?” Imogen asked, peering at the scar when Mina rolled up her sleeve to show it. “I’ve always been interested in voodoo.” Imogen said off-handedly. “I did a project on it once…Sixth or seventh year, maybe?” Imogen had been seriously considering America as a place to build her career, once upon a time, but she had chickened out. Hadn’t ever mentioned it to anyone, of course, but always wondered what it would be like to get to start over like that. Maybe one day she could be like Mina, and go on the adventure she had always dreamed of. “Are you just saving up until you can run away again?” Imogen asked curiously. She didn’t want to lose Mina again…mostly, of course, because when she was in the same country (and on the same continent) as Mina, she could bail her out of trouble. Across an ocean, Imogen’s danger sense didn’t work nearly as well, so she couldn’t come to Mina’s rescue. Obviously, that wasn’t as important as she thought, since, as Im had pointed out earlier, Mina was nether pregnant nor dead. Mina had done just fine on her own. And if Mina did run away again…Maybe Imogen would follow her. It was a stupid thought, but maybe it was a new adventure, not a new job, that she needed to keep from getting listless.

@imogen Mina raised her eyebrows as Imogen mentioned something along the lines of her having fun and it being ruined. There wasn’t much to say there, since she was sure her expression would get the point across. If fun constituted of dragging her drunk ass out of bars and bringing her back home, then maybe she did ruin all of Im’s fun. She kept the expression going as it was brought up that she shouldn’t really be trusted with a dog either. Mina kind of agreed with that one, but it had to start somewhere. Her family wouldn’t have allowed it if she lived on her own, which wasn’t going to happen because she wasn’t even responsible enough to do that. Quite the vicious cycle really. “At least I’m reasonable enough to know people don’t trust me. Used to be worse you know.” Then Im brought up the idea of watching her owl. She made another face, this time grimacing at the thought. “There’s a reason I don’t have my own. Please don’t ask.” That brought flashbacks back from her second year. Poor Feathers…
She nodded her head a few times as Im talked about her little Hufflepuff. Mina didn’t really want to bring up the fact that Imogen used to be the same in school. At least she understood that not everyone wanted nor needed to come out of their shell. The Gryffindor thing was a little more fun though. “You only helped one Gryffindor? That’s like…” Mina used her fingers to count. “One-quarter of your students that you’re completely ignoring, or whatever it is you do to them.” She wagged her finger a little before spinning around in her chair again. “I don’t blame you though. I never really liked the lions that much either. Full of themselves.” Actually, that was virtually everyone that was smarter than her, in her mind.
Her little adventure story was bound to draw some questions and criticisms, surprisingly more of the former than the latter. Of course the question was about the Rougarou. That was Mina’s favorite story, since it was really the only interesting thing that had happened to her. That she could remember of course. “Sarah gave me a knife for my sweet sixteen.” Mina pulled the rather large knife out of her pocket to show Imogen. “When it bit into me, I managed to pull it to the ground and uhh…stab it.” That had been one of the more unsightly things she had done while abroad. “It fell on my arm and smashed both it and the old wand. Luckily I’m pretty good with my hands and can do some simple spells with wandless magic. Managed to get my arm out from its mouth and go back to the voodoo lady to get fixed up. Then they came and did whatever it was they needed to do with the body, fixed the broken arm and left the scar for me, and made this new wand!” She ended on a chipper note, replacing the knife with the new wand She quite liked the new one, it fit her personality better. “I wanted to leave as soon as I could again, but I kind of like this job.” She spun in a circle once again. “Plus Koda wants the whole family to be around when the baby is born, so I’m stuck here until then.”

Imogen nodded when Mina said that she was reasonable enough to know that people didn’t trust her. Normally Imogen would hesitate to classify Mina as reasonable, but that statement was simply, factually true. She knew where her flaws were, even if she wasn’t willing to fix them. Mina said that there was a reason that she didn’t have her own owl, and Imogen shuddered a little. She wasn’t best friends with her owl the way a lot of pet owners seemed to be with their pets, but she was fond of him, and didn’t want him to die or explode or anything of the sort. If Mina said she couldn’t take care of an owl, she couldn’t. Say, hadn’t Mina had an own back when they were in Hogwarts…?
Mina accepted what Imogen said about Cordelia, but it seemed the bookshop worker wasn’t willing to let the professor off the hook with her Gryffindor thing. “No one else has asked for help.” Imogen replied. “Only Cordelia and Anna have ever visited me outside of class for unofficial reasons. By that measure, I actually hate Ravenclaws and Slytherins.” Mina had to know that wasn’t true, since she was a Slytherin, and Imogen was quite fond of her, in the way you were fond of a particularly destructive cat. Mina ended by saying that she didn’t like Gryffindors, either, which wasn’t surprising, given that the Slytherin-Gryffindor feud still seemed to be somewhat going. As long as Mina wasn’t planning on flipping the tables and lecturing Imogen, everything was going to be just fine.
Sarah. Right. Of all of the Wulfe children, Sarah had always been the one that Imogen disliked. She just gave her the creeps. And Sarah getting her younger sister a knife for her sixteenth birthday didn’t do much to improve Imogen’s opinion of her. Still, if it kept Mina from being killed by a Rougarou, then Imogen supposed she ought to have been thankful for it. Mina had made it out relatively unscathed, though needing a new wand, and Imogen was pleased to hear that it hadn’t been difficult to procure another wand, this one laden with the spoils of Mina’s victory. Imogen smiled brightly when Mina said that she liked her job, but her face fell when Mina mentioned her older brother having a baby. She hadn’t known Dakoda was seeing anyone, let alone seriously enough to be expecting a child. Then again, serious relationships and having a child weren’t mutually exclusive. “Who’s the mother?” Imogen asked curiously. That was a better question than ‘what baby?’ if Imogen did say so herself.

@imogen A simple nod from Im, that was all. Maybe she was making some strides here and there, especially if she made a reasonable statement like that. It was kind of gross though, being responsible, but, she had to do it eventually. Callisto would take the dog away from her if she wasn’t. That would easily be the last straw, other than maybe rehab or some silly muggle thing like that. Some of her muggle party friends were sent to places like that. Total waste of money apparently because they weren’t hardcore enough for it to be an issue, so they refused to let it work. Mina was sure that her sister would hire an Obliviator to wipe her mind of any semblance of interest in alcohol. That would be awful, mostly for her family because then she’d become a shell of her former self, zombie-like if anything.
She grinned as Imogen said that only two students had really approached her about anything that wasn’t class related. They were totally scared of her. Mina knew all too well what that feeling was like, because while Im might not have realized it, that same air was about her in her last two years of school as well. Adding to that, Mina was basically the test subject for the stern lectures and talking-tos over the years. Now those poor little children were receiving a similar treatment. It was great. That meant Im wasn’t going to be as harsh on her now. “Are you sure they aren’t scared of you? First year professors kind of…give that air off don’t they? You probably haven’t done anything too bad but they’ll react to it regardless.” Why did that sound so adult-like? Sure, she had spent countless hours in detention or after class with professors, but that didn’t mean she knew their inner workings. Or did it?
Her story seemed to go over well, and there weren’t any objections to it. That was either good or bad. On one hand, that meant Im found everything in it as Mina as possible and didn’t expect her to have done anything else, the other being that she was too disappointed in her to even continue that conversation. If she had to guess, it was probably a little bit of both. The baby topic was more interesting anyways. Mina had been furious when she heard about it, and for the most part, she was positive that Callisto had been a little thrown off by the announcement as well. Definitely the shocker to come home to. “Some girl he’s seen on and off over the last few years. Ophelia or something like that. I think I’ve met her once or twice. Couldn’t say if she’s the one for him though.” Mina raised her arms up in a shrugging motion. “That was quite the night when he told us. I’m surprised I remember any of it…”

Mina asked again if Imogen was sure that her students weren’t scared of her, and the professor raised her eyebrows. How was she supposed to know that? If they really were scared of her, it wasn’t like they would answer her question honestly. And Mina seemed to think it was something to do with the fact that it was Imogen’s first year teaching, rather than anything about her personality wise. It would make sense, since Imogen was determined to do everything by the book to keep from accidentally being fired from her job. She wasn’t even sure if she liked being a professor, but still, the job…meant a lot to her, for reasons unknown. “Maybe you’re right.” Imogen said after mulling it over a few times. If Mina wasn’t careful, and kept saying such mature things, Imogen was going to start to think that she was actually becoming an adult – a real one, and not a pseudo-adult who only worked to pay for alcohol. “Any suggestions on how to turn it off?” Imogen asked dryly. She wasn’t going to be changing the way she ran her classroom unless it still fell within the margins of the rules, so she wasn’t sure if any of Mina’s suggestions would actually be usable…But still, it was worth a shot, especially if Mina kept up with her mature streak.
With the response to her question about who the mother of Dakoda’s baby was, Imogen froze. Ophelia was pregnant? It was always possible that Mina was wrong, and that it wasn’t, in fact, Imogen’s best friend who was pregnant with Dakoda’s baby, but for all her pretending, Imogen sometimes thought Mina had the best memory of anyone she knew. Had Ophelia mentioned anything about Dakoda recently? Imogen couldn’t remember, but they had known each other in school, and it would make sense…It would all make sense. Mina added that she wasn’t sure if Ophelia was “the one” for Dakoda, but that didn’t really matter to Imogen. She had recently unsubscribed to the notion of soulmates and everything happening for a reason, so knowing that Ophelia and Dakoda weren’t something that Im already didn’t believe in didn’t make her feel any better. Imogen forced herself to take a deep breath so she could begin to hide the confusion that she was feeling from Mina. “I imagine that learning you have a new niece or nephew on the way would warrant celebration.” Im replied with a smile. Not that Mina needed an excuse to drink, but having one was also probably nice. “I should probably be heading back soon…” Imogen said, trailing off. She had been intending to spend the entire day out and about, but after the news she had just heard, the professor thought it might be better for her to go to her room for a while and try to sort out what she was feeling, beneath all the confusion.

@imogen “Of course I’m right.” Mina retorted almost immediately. “You should know that by now. I spent enough time in detention with professors to know how they work. If I had better grades maybe I could have been one like you.” Among many other lifestyle changes that would have had to disappear before that was even a consideration in the first place. It was quite amazing anyone had even been willing to hire her as it was. Thankfully it didn’t take much to run a cash register and she could chat up a storm with the customers when it was a quiet day. That always looked good to her boss. And knowing how to read too. That was always a constant question others had about her, and of course she knew how to do that. Might have taken a little longer than most kids learning how to read, but she got there eventually. If she hated books with a burning passion, then she wouldn’t have actively tried to surround herself with them. Im then asked for suggestions to help with getting the students to like her. She tapped her finger on the cash register in front of her a few times, thinking about a plan that would help. “Be their friend. You’re not much older than the sixth and seven years, so they might take advantage of it, but the younger students you’ll have for a longer time.” If only they had had younger professors when they were there, instead having a bunch of old dusty bats. “In other words, be lenient and don’t act like their parent. Oh! And have fun lessons and snacks. Snacks will always win over students. That always did it for me…” Her stomach growled at the thought of food. What she would do for something to eat right now. Unfortunately there was still work to be done. “Maybe.” Mina contemplated the idea of having a new family member a lot these days. She liked Sebastian but didn’t see him a lot. Dakoda was also her older brother, and for the most part, the one she looked up to. Sarah on the other hand, while more like Mina in terms of social habits, was kind of out there. She still loved her sister, but there were some things better left unsaid about her as well. “I just always expected him to be married before having a kid, or at least a girlfriend. This one just sleeps with him a lot.” Mina shrugged, knowing that she was the same way at times with some people as well. “Already? Next time,” Mina hopped off her chair finally. “Invite me to Hogwarts. I’m pretty sure they won’t let me come visit on my own. Callisto was pretty sure of that. I want to see what life as a professor is all about.” [OOC: Wrap it up xD]
