Boring. That’s what work was. Ever since returning back to London over the summer, that’s all work ever was. There had been a little peak in activity at the start of the school year, but that was it. Everything went back to being boring again. Probably didn’t help that she was hungover again. That never made anything easier either. Whatever had possessed her to come home also made her turn to being reckless again. Cal hated it, so she kept going out at night, sometimes going straight from wherever she woke up to work. She had gotten smarter over the last few months, remembering to keep a bag of extra clothes to change into in her work locker. Her boss didn’t really care. She did her job, helped customers, and made money for the store. What else was there to ask her to do? Plus, despite her looks sometimes, she did have a lot of knowledge on some things, so she wasn’t completely useless. Making it this many months in proved it.
Today though, her boss was out. Business trip or something. A shipment of books had come in earlier in the day, the loud clanking of the door opening and closing had shot blistering pain through her head, but complaining would have only made it worse. The damn delivery guys had mouths on them and she wasn’t too keen on getting into a verbal argument that early in the morning, let alone hungover. After a few minutes of them thumping and pounding around the store, it was time to set everything where it belonged. Luckily magic was handy in this instance, and placing the new stock in its rightful place took mere seconds. Give or take. A couple of the books were averse to her charms and had to be tossed around before finally settling down.
Other than that though? Nothing. A few window shoppers here and there. One ancient looking wizard wanted some scroll on how to reverse mummification of a toe, in which Mina aptly asked him to show it to her, and then had him whisked away to St. Mungo’s because it was actually being eaten by flesh-eating slug larvae. She was fine with grotesque and gory things, but she almost felt bad for the decrepit man. Almost. That and Mungo’s would know what to do with it, since it was obviously not mummified. That was still puzzling her, as she had no idea what had possessed him to think it was in the first place.
Now she was almost nodding off. Only a few more hours than she could close, and then go back out after feeding the dog. She had to be quick though or Callisto would catch her home. If that happened it was goodbye nightlife for a few days. Her sister would probably physically chain her down and take her wand again. Mina hated when that happened. She wasn’t that irresponsible all the time. If she was, she wouldn’t have a job like this. That always seemed to fall on deaf ears though.
The bell to the front door jingled, a blast of cold air circling its way around the shop before finally dissipating. Mina didn’t look up from the book she had just been falling asleep on. “Welcome to Flourish and Blotts. Let me know if you need any help.” She said with the most dispassionate voice possible.
