@callisto Mina had gotten off work early. Bad weather or something ridiculous like that. She had protested, wanting to work a few more hours up until closing like usual. The way she had presented it to her boss though made it seem like she actually cared about working. In a way she did, but she was only there for the money and free reading. Regardless, she helped lock up the shop and went home early.
Home had been a lot of places since graduating from Hogwarts. Graduating. She was still surprised that had even happened. So had her family. School simply hadn’t been her thing. What was wrong with that? It wasn’t like she was stupid. She had far more street smarts than any of her siblings, and she had a way with words. That could get her practically anywhere she wanted to go in the world. But here she was, lying flat on her back on the couch in the apartment she shared with her sister (more like forcibly moved in with her sister), scratching the ears on her fluffy white Akita, Titania.
She hadn’t planned on being home this early. There was nothing to do, like usual, and the crowd that she kind of considered her friends weren’t going to be active for another couple of hours. Going out this early was silly anyways. To add to that, this supposed bad winter weather was probably going to deter a lot of her group from actually doing anything. Wimps. Fun was to be had no matter rain or shine. Or a massive snowstorm.
Callisto would be home soon too, and that definitely meant Mina wouldn’t be able to escape. Frowning at Titania, she struggled to pick the dog up and place it on top of her stomach. The dog was unimpressed by the move and immediately started stepping all over Mina, eventually hopping off the couch and running to its bed in the corner. “Why won’t you love me?” She groaned, throwing one of the throw pillows in the direction of her dog, missing by a long shot and instead hitting the door as it started to open.

Callisto was very tired, but she didn't show anyone that. She was at work at the Ministry today, but there came a point where the whether got so bad that most people were headed home. Callisto was planning to just spend the night holed up in her office, but then she thought of Mina. Mina might worry, even if she'd never admit it. Callisto didn't want to have to send an owl out in that snowstorm. She sighed, eventually giving in and packing up her stuff to head home.
Mina wasn't scheduled to be home yet, so Callisto decided she would make a pot of hot cocoa to surprise her younger sister with. But, when she pushed the door open, she felt something hit it. A... pillow? "Mina," Callisto sighed, so like a mother, and opened the door the rest of the way, quickly stepping inside and shutting it behind her, "why are you torturing the poor dogs with the pillows? Or-" one of the dogs seemed to take an interested in the pillow that had been thrown, "or was it the other way around?"

@callisto Mina knew what was coming the second the door opened and the pillow she had just tossed hit it. Except it really wasn’t as bad as it could have been. The sigh Callisto gave her wasn’t nearly as harsh as it had been in the past, and seemed more tired than anything. She knew she acted like a child sometimes. That was fine with her, since being a child and immature meant she could avoid responsibility. Callisto was inside almost immediately and had observed the situation in front of her. “Both I guess?” She answered her sister, not making eye contact with her and instead making faces at her dog. Titania simply tilted her head to the side, clearly not understanding the situation they were both in. “I know she’s still a puppy, but she never listens.” Rolling from her back to her stomach, Mina buried her face in her arms, mumbling inaudibly for a few seconds.
Eventually moving her head out from underneath her arms, she stared at her sister. “You get sent home early too?” Obviously that’s what had happened, but she honestly didn’t know. Her shift always ended long after Callisto’s did, so it was kind of strange to already be here, especially on a day that she wasn’t supposed to have off. By this point, the dog had picked the pillow up and brought it back to the couch, dropping it on the floor in front of Mina. Peering down, she glared at her animal before picking it up. Apparently it was time to play fetch. Maybe if Callisto wasn’t standing right there she’d throw the pillow again, but that didn’t seem to be the smartest move right now. Patting the dog on the head, she snatched the pillow up quickly and placed it between her body and the back of the couch. That was enough to play though, and Titania was back up on top of Mina, stomping around on her back to get to the pillow. “Why do you do this to me?”

Callisto shook her head at her sisters response. Short. Non committal. Unsure. Indecisive. Classic Mina. She kept her eyes on the dog as well as Titania tilted her head in confusion. "Not listening is common in this household," Callisto found herself saying sharply. "Like about how I tell you to lock the door when I'm gone," she crossed the room to the table, lifting her wand to lock the door behind her as she placed her purse and brief case on top of said table.
Mina had buried her face in her arms on the couch somewhere during that cross and Callisto simply rolled her eyes, unwrapping her scarf from her neck before she heard Mina's voice again. She turned to look at her, nodding at the question. "Yes," wasn't that obvious? "It's the blasted storm," she said harshly, draping her scarf over the back of a chair.
Soon the dog was attempting to get the pillow back from behind Mina and Callisto left the room for a moment, back to her bedroom. It would be more cost effective for them to have a one bedroom and to share, but Callisto and Mina were both the types who needed their own space and this way Callisto could shut her door at night so the dogs didn't jump on her in her sleep.
She came back into the sitting room and crossed to the kitchen immediately, "tea, Mina?" she offered.

@callisto Mina stuck her tongue out at her sister as she walked away from the front door to take off her scarf and other winter clothes. She knew she wasn’t the best listener. That had been made rather clear from the moment she could work. At least that’s how their parents explained it. Obviously she had only ever heard that from her siblings since she tuned out anything that was said about her behavior. It made it easier for everyone that way, especially so she could watch them get angry as they tried to explain her wrongdoings for the umpteenth time. That was far more entertaining than pertaining to rules, or whatever it was that everyone else was so concerned about. That also explained why Callisto was constantly reminding her about the stupid door and its lock. Who cared anyways? She locked it when she was left, but she saw no reason to do so when she was inside. “Sorry mum.” Mina stated sarcastically. “Leaving it unlocked just makes it easier for all my little friends when they come over to play. You don’t want me to be lonely do you?” Taunting Callisto was fun, especially because she could get away with doing constantly and never worry about consequences.
Zoning out as the dog continued to climb around on her, Mina didn’t even notice that her sister had left the main room. She was more preoccupied with getting the fluff ball off her back and the pillow under her possession. Lying flat down on their couch wasn’t the most comfortable thing in the world, seeing as she did it most nights upon returning home and passing out. If she even came home in the first place. Lately it seemed like she was out of practice with making Callisto worry about her well-being, no thanks to early work shifts and awful weather. Hopefully it didn’t start to look like she was finally becoming a responsible adult. That wasn’t any fun in the slightest.
Titania finally jumped off her back, seemingly tired of playing, and returned to her bed in the corner, setting her head down and passing out. Mina stared at her dog for a few seconds, still planted firmly on her stomach on the couch, and let out a sigh. This was boring. Callisto had returned by this point and was heading into the kitchen. “Please.” She called out following the offer for tea. “Do we have any of those cracker things? I want some of those too, maid.” She tried to contain a small giggle at calling Callisto her maid, but to no avail. That was definitely going to garner a few dagger-esque stare downs.

Mum, Mina called her. Callisto was used to it, considering she did 'mum' like things all the time. Personally, Callisto thought she wouldn't make the best mum in reality but she wasn't planning on finding out. Callisto's eyes snapped back to her sister at her next words, "little friends?" she asked, eyes narrowing. "If you mean those people who take you out all night and don't drop you off til morning then yeah, I'd rather you be lonely," wow, she was in a rather bad mood today, wasn't she? She was always hard on Mina, on everyone, but she tried not to seem judgemental or unloving toward her flesh and blood, especially Mina.
At least Mina accepted the offer for tea. But, of course, then she went on to make a joke about Callisto being the 'maid' and asking for crackers. Callisto reached into the cupboard and pulled some crackers out, then proceeded to throw them across the room, she whipped her wand out and used it for momentum, aiming for the crackers to smack into Minas face one at a time.
Then she turned back to her pot of tea. "Sugar? Cream?" she offered gently.

@callisto She didn’t think the ‘mum’ comment would get the reaction that it did. Or maybe it was the thing about her going out all the time. That definitely got Callisto flustered; it was almost a guaranteed short circuit. Today was no different. Mina simply rolled her eyes as her sister continued to reprimand her for her actions. At least she was having fun. If there was seriously something wrong with her actions, she’d know when to stop. That’s what had happened in America. The second things really got out of control she was back home. Not to say that a little reckless behavior didn’t happen here and there still, because it definitely did. “Then I’ll be just like you.” Mina chimed back, not really thinking of the consequences that could come with that comment. Callisto was being rather sharp with her today, and for once Mina didn’t really start it. Usually she did. “I know you’re busy with work or whatever, but live a little. Having fun never killed anyone.” Unless it actually did. She had witnessed that a few times first hand. Didn’t stop her though.
Mina continued to watch her sister move around the kitchen, getting the tea ready. Apparently calling Callisto ‘maid’ had gone unnoticed, or at least eclipsed by the earlier comment. Or so she thought. Starting to move from her stomach to a sitting position on the couch, something hit her on the side of her head. Blinking a few times, another thing hit her, this time in the forehead. The pieces of it fell onto her lap. Picking it up, Mina noticed it was a cracker, and so was the one broken apart on the floor. She was about to say something about it to Callisto, but another one came shooting at her. Luckily she was fast enough to dodge it, this one hitting the wall behind her. By this point, the dog’s ears had perked back up, interested in the sound of food flying around the room. Mina noticed this and leapt for the crackers lying on the ground. Thankfully Titania was too lazy to move from her bed.
“Sugar. Because I’m sweet.” Far from it, but Mina knew it would get a reaction. She stood up from the couch and crossed over into the kitchen, hopping up onto one of the counters to wait for her tea. “I heard that Hogwarts is having a little dance thing for the tournament. You bringing one of those hot young healers? Aurors maybe?” Mina was vague on which ones she was talking about, because there were lots of them. “If not, you can always bring me. They have a bar right? I’d be there all night.” She knew Callisto wouldn’t let that happen, especially because it was her primary job. Wiggling Mina in would mean pulling lots of strings, and she was sure there was a policy to keep non-Ministry workers out.

Callisto paused at her sisters retort. Just like her? Lonely. Callisto felt a strange sensation at that. Something like sadness, which was not an emotion she allowed herself to participate in. Still, it was kind of cold of Mina to say that. But not surprising. Mina nodded, "yeah," she agreed flatly. Then Mina said having fun never killed anyone. Typical and cliché. Callisto rolled her eyes, "doesn't mean that fun is supposed to be insanity, Mina. I have fun," she retorted, "I just don't flaunt it."
Sweet. Hah. Callisto watched the water start to boil as her sister hopped up on the counter beside her. Mina asked about the dance and if Callisto had a date and she shook her head, eyes flickering back to Mina's face. "I'll be working and surveying. Not dancing," Mina suggested bringing her and Callisto scoffed, "no, you won't be coming, darling." The water was boiling but she waited a moment longer. "I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on you."

@callisto It didn’t mean fun had to be crazy all the time, but why not let it be if that was better than being bored? That was her thought process at least. “Well you should flaunt it, because I never see you having any fun. Not like you used to.” That was also school and Mina knew that a lot had changed since they had both been there. It was a lot easier to have fun and goof off when the only responsibility was going to class and doing homework. Jobs and the real world were harder to work around. Mina had, of course, figured out each and every little way to cut corners because that was more entertaining. Callisto on the other hand, seemed to be more absorbed in her dry, boring work.
Mina kicked her feet back and forth while leaning on the edge of the counter. She stared out at her dog, who was sleeping again, as she listened to Callisto talk. “That sounds more like spying on the children so they don’t do anything inappropriate.” Mina giggled. “They always find a way. I can tell you of a few spots some of them might try to sneak off to.” She had a feeling already that it was going to be a resounding “no” that she couldn’t go to the dance-thingy. Pity. She was looking forward to teaching the little students a thing or two about dancing. Surely there were a few that knew already, but they would be under the watchful eye of the adults. At least Mina could pass for a graduate if she wanted to. Maybe. The thought of that was disturbing. Getting old and stuff wasn’t really on her agenda. “You wouldn’t really have to keep an eye on me though. I’d probably be sitting at the bar.” She hopped off the counter and moved to one of the chairs at the table. Resting her head on her hands she looked up at Callisto before continuing. “Or the bartender.”

Callisto sighed, not looking up at her sister when Mina said she never saw her having fun. The truth was, she really didn't know how to define it. Or if she was even having it. With Koda being so free willing, Mina being a wild card, and Sarah being... Sarah, it was hard for Callisto to do anything 'fun'. She was so scared of ending up like them. Messes with their lives all over the place. She didn't realize that maybe being this way was worse. Lonelier, at least. Callisto liked to listen to classical music and drink wine while reading a good book, if she ever made the time for it. That was the only thing that crossed her mind as being 'fun'. She finally looked over at Mina again, "I'll be sure to try that advice out," she said, trying to lace it with her usual snarkiness but giving herself away easily as being a little sad about it. She had a hard time not being honest with Mina.
Callisto did chuckle when Mina said she could tell Callisto the spots where kids would sneak off to. Then she spoke of not needing to keep an eye on her, and how she'd be sitting at the bar... or the bartender. Callisto rolled her eyes, removing the water from the heat. "That's exactly the problem. Plus, there won't be much alcohol there and it will be very monitored. There are children there," she said, in reference to the fourteen, fifteen and sixteen year olds who would be attending. "Anyway, my job isn't to babysit them," she added, finishing up the tea and moving to the table, setting the tray down with all the necessary pieces for the set. She took a seat diagonally adjacent to Minas. "And I don't want you hitting on any seventeen year olds," she added, reaching forward to prepare Minas tea for her and then place the cup and plate in front of her.

@callisto Mina had to mentally roll her eyes at her sister, but she felt kind of bad for even doing that. She knew Callisto was busy, and yet here she was criticizing her for never getting out and having fun. That was hard enough sometimes with working at the store. Having two jobs, which were both extremely time consuming as of late, obviously left little time for anything else. And Mina knew that. But it was also way too much fun to make jokes about it. Was it cruel? Definitely. They both knew it was all fun and games though. At least Mina liked to think they both knew it was. Made things easier and she never had to feel bad about the way she treated Callisto. “Good.” Mina gave her sister a grin. “Because it does worry me…sometimes.” Going to work and coming home straight away every day without any deviation was what drove people mad. They already had two siblings and parents that lost it every full moon, there was no need to have another one of them go crazy too. If anything, that was Mina’s job.
“No alcohol!” She practically yelled. The dog’s ears perked up again, Mina noticing the slight disturbance she had caused her puppy. Bringing it down to a whisper, she continued. “Always for the children isn’t it? If Ministry members are going to be there, they’re going to want to get blasted. You know what they deal with. Ball or not, a party isn’t a party without alcohol, dancing, really loud music, and sex. Most of the time all mixed in together. Don’t try to tell me I’m wrong either.” She ended her rant defiantly, turning her head away from Callisto again. If there was one thing she knew, it was parties. This Yule Ball thing was starting to sound like a muggle middle school parent-chaperoned “dance” that were always in their television shows or movies. Absolutely zero fun at all, except for the one wee lad that finally got his first snog on. There were definitely going to be many of those firsts at Hogwarts this year. Nothing close to what she was used to.
Callisto finished up with the tea and brought the entire set over to the table. Mina quietly watched her prepare their cups, eagerly awaiting her own. As it was placed in front of her, Mina quickly snatched it up and started blowing on it to cool it down. “Thanks.” A few more quick breaths, and she tipped it up to her lips. Too hot. Setting it back down, she crossed her arms. “Ewww no. That would be like having the hots for Bunny. At least I wait until they’re out of school.” Standards. She didn’t have many, but that was one of them. Muggles were fair game, but they were more promiscuous to begin with. “Same goes for you. No hitting on them.” Like that would ever happen.

Callisto was actually relieved at Minas grin and her saying that it did worry her how Callisto didn't seem to have fun. She didn't go on with the subject, though, ready to move on from the awkwardness and slight pain because of it. It was easy to do so, especially when Callisto said there wouldn't be much alcohol at the ball. Mina seemed rather distraught by that, which made Callisto laugh.
Mina lowered her voice and Callisto leaned forward, her smile genuine with amusement at Minas words. "I said there won't be much alcohol. There is too much regulation that needs to happen. And this is a fancy party, Mina. A classy one. No one will be 'getting blasted'," she rolled her eyes. Callisto rolled her eyes, of course, at the word 'sex'. "I hope there isn't much of that," she muttered.
She nodded as Mina thanked her for the tea. She nodded as Mina mentioned Bunny, and how waiting til they were out of school was her standards. She said the same thing went for Callisto, and she nodded, "obviously. I don't even think men my age are mature enough," she rolled her eyes, sipping her tea.

@callisto “Booo. Barely any alcohol might as well not be any. I’m sure you’d prefer that.” It would make things rather easy to clean up. Unless they were doing one of those ticket systems where everyone got a few tickets and had to fork them over for a drink. Mina hated those kinds of events. To add to that, she grimaced at the classy description of it. Definitely not her scene. She thought it was going to be more…fun. “For you or the students?” Mina chimed in nonchalantly. She enjoyed poking fun at her sister because she knew she could get away with it for the most part. “Because they will definitely find a way, mark my words.” If Callisto wasn’t going to tell her about any of the Ball events, Mina was sure she could persuade Bunny to divulge. They were thick as thieves, even with her being out of school for two years.
The eye roll was enough to convince Mina that Callisto wasn’t going to even bother with dealing with the students at the Ball. Why should she? Her entire goal was to make sure the thing was a smooth operation, not pandering to every whim a student had. “Yeah me neither. They’re too old.” Mina took a sip of her tea, not looking up at her sister. Hopefully the age comment would get to her. It might have been only two years between them, but that was enough to get under Callisto’s skin. “Have you even given it a shot though? Because if I’m in the way, I can disrupt Koda or Sarah’s lives for a little bit and crash on their couches.”

Callisto chuckled and shook her head, "I would prefer that, but I was outvoted," she explained. She rolled her eyes at Minas tease, but smiled. "For anyone, Mina. hence why you," she reached over to poke her sister in the ribs, "aren't invited. And if they find a way, someone else is handling it," Callisto said firmly.
Callistos jaw dropped slightly as Mina basically called her 'old'. Then she closed her mouth, chuckling and shaking her head. "At least I don't act like I'm thirteen years old," she chimed herself, taking a sip of her own tea. Then Mina asked if she'd given it a shot... asking if she was in the way and Callisto shook her head, maybe a little too much. "No, no, Min. I'm not interested in that stuff. Don't worry about it," she said.

@callisto Mina stuck her tongue out at her sister as she said she would have preferred not to have alcohol at the event. Thank Merlin there were sane people in her department. Even though it was half-Hogwarts half-Ministry, they couldn’t not have alcohol of some sort. At the very least, wine had to be available at a formal event. That didn’t count as alcohol anyways. Apparently the tease about Callisto and students slinking off to get their freak on wasn’t appreciated either. “Hey! I said I had standards. No students for me. Now, ministry workers, that’s a different story.” Finding one of those well off ‘adults’ couldn’t be too hard could it? She wasn’t a leech either, merely she would use them for a little fun here and there and then move on without any hard feelings. “You could always hire me to handle it. That way I could laugh at them for being in obvious places.” Mina knew she wasn’t going to be able to go. She was more than likely on a list of people not to be allowed in. If the school or her sister didn’t have her put on, then the Ministry did for one thing or another. “Don’t worry. Probably have to close the shop that day anyways.” She tried not to sound too upset about it.
Luckily the old age comment elicited a reaction from Callisto. Mina didn’t expect a fight though. “Look, I know I might look like I’m thirteen still, but I’m responsible sometimes. Like at work. You just don’t get to see me in action.” She was somewhat hurt by that. Lately she had definitely tried to act more like an adult. Only to make money, obviously, but the fact remained that she was trying. That was the only reason she had gotten the dog in the first place. Build trust and responsibility in the close observation of her family members. It seemed like it might have been working a little bit. “At all or trying? Because those are two very different things. I could always introduce you to a few people.” Like hell Callisto was ever going to take her up on that offer.
