Liona couldn't help the smirk that came to her face as he tugged her closer to him. Her eyes remained locked on his in a steady concentration as his hand fell to her waist, their arms raising into a more relaxed ballroom stance. This was okay. It was similar to how others were standing. The amount of space he left between the two of them seemed appropriate as well for two people who decided to dance together and weren't secretly involved. She heard his exhale before he lead her in a gentle sway, moving in a small circle on their part of the dance floor. The beautiful piece that seemingly came from everywhere dictated their steps as she smiled at him, her feet following his. She imagined most girls would feel like they're floating in moments like this. It was nice, the floating feeling.
His question broke her out of her focus and she tilted her head. Everyone was staring at them. She couldn't say she hadn't expected people to look. After all, she was dancing with River Flint, betrothed of one Viovinnia Nott. She looked away from him for just a moment, seeing the other dancers around them. Yeah, there were quite a few people looking at them now. More than she expected. When they caught her eye some looked away in attempt to hid in their own dancing. Others were bolder and outright staring. She looked back at him. "There are quite a few people staring, yes. Is it bothering you," she asked with another tilt of her head. It wasn't really bothering her per say but it was taking away from her focus. She was trying to have fun and now she really did have to worry about what they were thinking. Especially if it was bothering him to the point of losing focus. "I'd say just let them stare. We do look rather dashing after all. If it's bothering you though...," she left the sentence in the air. She enjoyed the dancing and the music but she wouldn't force it.

She answered, saying that there were quite a few people staring and asking if it was bothering him. he opened his mouth, then closed it again and soon she was saying that they should just let them stare and complimenting how dashing they looked. She seemed to be genuinely concerned about him being bothered. He shook his head, "not really bothering, I guess... I'm just not used to the attention. It must be you," he deducted with a rather firm nod of his head. "Their probably all just jealous," he said in a matter of fact sort of way. The thing was, River never really meant to flatter people for his own gain or anything. Rather, he was just being honest and blunt. He liked being that way he had found, and it was definitely one of the aspects of this crazy process he was going through that he was grateful for. Probably the one he was most grateful for.
The song swelled a little louder and he slightly picked up the pace with the accelerated tempo. "I don't know this piece... do you?" he asked, tiling his head slightly to the side to listen to the sound.

Watching his mouth open and close had her grinning once again. She ignored the flashing beacon in her mind's eye that wanted to blurt out how cute he looked. Not 'dashing', like an upscaled compliment, or 'handsome' like you say to a friend. Cute. Genuinely cute. There were also multiple reasons that was a bad idea including the fact that, as he pointed out, there were many people staring at the both of them and were probably just waiting for something inappropriate to happen so they could be the next big thing in that gossip column. She had no doubt they'd turn it into something bigger than it actually was. So what she thought he was cute? She thought plenty of other women and guys were cute. She snapped out of her thoughts and focused on what he was saying. He wasn't bothered and once again he complimented her in that genuine way he's been doing since she met up with him where he doesn't even think about what he's saying. She smiled in amusement and shook her head a little. "I'm sure you're this kind to everyone but I still can't help eating them up like I'm special," she giggled a bit while she continued to twirl with him. "Honestly though it's only a little bit me. It's mostly you. You are the betrothed one, not that I'm judging you Mr. Flint. I feel rather lucky at the moment actually," the mumbled the last bit. She might actually be simultaneously complimenting him and pushing him away, giving him an out if he wanted.
When he asked if she knew the piece that echoed around the hall, she shook her head. Her eyes closed momentarily though she was easily able to keep up with his lead and she took in the music. She could learn this on her viola. It was lovely even though it wasn't a classical piece and it could easily be translated to her instrument of choice. "It's simple, not nearly as complicated as most classical pieces so I can see why they would choose it for a dance considering not everyone is trained to dance. It's really... nice sounding," she finished lamely. Romantic had been on the tip of her tongue actually and where her gaze had been previously on his as she spoke, she moved it to look around at everyone else for just a moment. There were all sorts of couples around them dancing, holding on to each other as if their very livelihood depended on it.And she was thinking too much. Or at least trying to keep herself from thinking to much and failing.

River couldn't help his smile when she said that he was making her feel special. Then, she brought up the betrothal and his stomach fell, until she said he felt lucky. Mumbled, rather, and his stomach lifted into a normal place again. His face may have heated a little, too. "Well, let's just say that we're both lucky and that we're both being stared at. Just for different reasons," he chuckled, spinning her away from him for a moment before pulling her back in. He caught his breath as her body returned to him, his hand finding her waist again. He breathed in through his nose and nodded, "yes. Both lucky."
She said that she didn't know exactly what the piece was, pretty much, but that she liked that it was simple and nice sounding. He chuckled as she looked around, glancing at the others. He tightened his grip on her. "Hey, ignore them. Just enjoy the nice music,"" he said. Yes, he was teasing her a bit for her choice of words. He whisked her back into dancing, and he lost track of the time or of how many dances they had done.
It was a lovely night, really, which he wasn't expecting. They eventually came to a stop, though, and the ballroom had dwindled significantly in his numbers. He pulled her a little bit closer, a bit out of breath before finally releasing her, slowly, and taking a step back. "I..." he felt that unsure nature slipping in again. He shook his head, snapping out of it, and stepped forward to gently clasp her hand with both of his. "I really hope we can spend time together again, Liona," he admitted. He chuckled, lifting her hand to kiss it before letting her be.
And trying to gather his own thoughts.

She smiled and nodded in agreement at his suggestion that everyone was staring at the both of them. It made sense, she couldn't deny that she looked great tonight. And she was dancing with a kind and very promised guy so they were both getting too much attention. She really hoped this wasn't going to be in that gossip paper. It was all very innocent. Nothing untoward, nothing inappropriate. They had to know that purebloods often dance together during social events just for networking or appearances. She knew she was just thinking herself in circles at this point. They wouldn't care about any of that. It would just be another scandal for them to consume. This was probably going to be bad.
Then he pulled her out of her thoughts. A gentle squeeze of her hand and she looked back at him in question. Hey, ignore them. Just enjoy the nice music." He was teasing her and she found herself grinning back at him. She would. Ignore them that is. It didn't matter right now. It would matter later, absolutely, but right now it didn't matter. She would enjoy this time.
The hours flew by the crowd thinned, the music began to fade. She'd had a great night. A night that started not so well had been turned into something she genuinely enjoyed. And while her feet had begun to hurt a little from being in heels all day with little rest, she was happy. River Flint had been kind to her and had given her this. She was guessing this was going to be where they parted ways and went back to the way things had always been, cordial acknowledgement and grace with her getting an invitation to the Flint-Nott wedding sometime after school ended for him. She went to open her mouth to thank him for such a lovely night but she closed her mouth at the feel of him pulling her closer, then releasing her. Watching his confidence slip for just a moment before he shook his head had a smile appearing on her face. He'd get better at that, she was sure. She wasn't expecting him to clasp her hand. Her eyebrows rose and she tilted her head, giving him a questioning glace before he spoke. "I really hope we can spend time together again, Liona."
She gave a half smile, her eyes lighting up in mirth as he kissed her hand and let her go. "I guess it's a good thing you know where to find me then, Mr. Flint," she mumbled just low enough so that he could hear it. With that, she turned and walked away. Reaching up, she began playing with the diamond earring in her right earlobe. Her nervous habit was appearing. She was going to have to rethink those early thoughts about this being innocent. Or maybe harmless flirting? She began making her way back to the Slytherin Common Room, thoughts running amok. OOTD; Here(Le end end~)
