there came a time in every girls morning when she had to drag herself out of bed. this morning was one morning harper wished she didn't have to. she'd been back in england for two days and she still wasn't used to the difference in time. it was near mid day if her clock was correct and she knew she'd have to eat something soon, she could already feel herself getting hungry as she lay cuddled up in the familiar blankets. she had missed her bed. as much fun as she'd had over the last two months she had yet to find a bed as comfortable as her own. though she had had a heck of a lot more fun in stranger feeling beds over the last few months. she smiled at the thought and dragged herself from the confines of the warm covers and into her room, grabbing a pair of jeans she pulled them on, reaching for a black sweater she had laying over the back of her chair since before she'd left and she ran a hand through her hair, smoothing it out as she moved downstairs, her bare feet making almost no noise on the floor. she hummed to herself as she wondered if her parents were still around. she had fallen into bed early the night before so she hadn't been able to hear their plans for today but she'd wing it if she was alone. moving into the kitchen she moved to the box that was sitting by the radiator and she kneeled down, smiling as she saw the three puppies she had brought home the day before were curled up in the corner of the box. she'd woken up before sunrise to feed them this morning before she'd fallen back to sleep and it seemed at least someone had thought to change the paper in their box. she'd have to thank her parents when she saw them next. she touched each of their heads lightly as she kneeled next to the box and started to forget the minutes ticking by.

@harper What was supposed to be a busy day packed with hunting down illegal dragon eggs had ended rather abruptly when the person Charlie was after turned themselves in. That didn’t happen often. Actually, it never happened. Because of that strange sequence of events, that meant he was done for the day, having assumed the morning would consist of tracking the dealer down, and after a quick lunch, an afternoon filled with paper-work to send the eggs to Romania. A fairly normal day for him when things went the way they were supposed to. Instead, the thief turned up outside the auror office with all the eggs and gave up, apparently realizing it wasn’t worth it. Charlie didn’t know, nor did he care, what happened to the person after the eggs were confiscated, as long as they were locked up for a while. Due to the early finish, the paper-work was done rather fast and the eggs were shipped off immediately to the hatchery in Romania. It couldn’t have been easier.
So here he was now, walking back into his house in the middle of the day with nothing else to do. Natalie was off doing work somewhere, and he assumed Harper, who had only just gotten home a few days earlier, would be out and about as well. That meant he could eat lunch and then take a nap; something that so rarely came to him these days. Obviously he was getting old if early afternoon naps sounded that enticing.
Popping the door to the house open, Charlie could hear his stomach growling. Not bothering to remove anything other than his work boots, he walked quickly into the kitchen to see what he could find to eat. Surely there would be leftovers, seeing as the meals the last two nights had gone from two people’s worth to three. Speaking of the third person, Harper was still home, kneeling in front of the box of puppies she had brought home. Charlie had been hesitant about it at first, thinking that Ondina would be home for winter break. The possible combination of dog fur and his middle child was not really anything he had been hoping to deal with over the holidays. It had gotten better over the years, but there was still the chance of an asthma attack. He loved dogs though, and he was secretly thrilled that his two youngest children would be staying at Hogwarts for the Yule Ball. That bought Harper a few more months to figure out what to do with her dogs.
“Afternoon.” Charlie stated as he made his presence known, opening the fridge door as he did so. There were a few enticing things in there, but he would need a few more minutes to decide. Poking his head back out, he looked towards Harper. “Or is it good morning still for you? I forget how late the three of you always sleep when you’re home.” He had been like that once, but now it was up at the crack of dawn to either chase down or train dragons. Sometimes both.

“Afternoon.” harper smiled as she heard her father's voice in the room behind her. she had been vaguely aware of someone walking around in the house a few second before but since the house was protected she had jumped to the assumption that it wasn't anyone dangerous. she'd been right, her father was one of the least dangerous people she knew. she turned her attention from the three pups that had fallen back to sleep at her affections and she stood up, stretching her arms above her head and feeling almost every crick in her body crack. she sighed as she dropped her arms to her side and moved to the table. she smiledas she sat down in one of the chairs and she rested her elbow on the table and her chin in her hand. “Or is it good morning still for you? I forget how late the three of you always sleep when you’re home.” she laughed softly and rolled her eyes slightly. she had liked staying in bed on her holidays from school but she thought this trip was a little different. "call it jet lag, so it's still early morning." she said as she crossed one leg over the other and glanced to the fridge her dad was rummaging in. "can't find what you're looking for?" she said with a grin as it seemed he'd been taking a while to pick what he wanted.

@harper Still early morning. Jet lag. Charlie tried not to laugh. He missed the years when he could still do that. Now it was up at dawn every day. Dragons didn’t really care whether he was awake or not, so getting up as early as possible to make sure he was mentally sharp enough to take them on had become a key part of his job. Too many times he had seen his coworkers sleeping on the job, getting singed or nipped at by passing by dragons. They probably thought it was an easy snack or something. “Did you actually fly on one of those planes? Always wondered what being on one would be like…” He trailed off as he pulled a few things out of the fridge and tossed them on the counter. Charlie was fine with driving cars, but it was so much easier to apparate everywhere, or take a train. “They’re just giant metal dragons as far as I’m concerned.” He added, throwing two slices of bread on a plate.
Looking at the dire situation in the fridge, it was peanut butter and jelly for lunch today. Charlie motioned to Harper, who was now sitting at the table. “You eat yet?” He slapped the peanut butter onto the bread. Flicking his wand at the coffee machine, he got that started as well. Now that he had the rest of the afternoon off, might as well sit back and relax. That didn’t really happen often. Quickly finishing his sandwich up, he set it on the table and waited for the coffee, peering over at the box of puppies. They really were cute. “So what’s the plan with those little guys? Your sister is going to freak if they’re still around when she gets back from school.” Charlie tried not to laugh, imagining the reaction Ondina would have to the dogs. It was almost cruel to think that actually, since he was concerned about her health. The last thing he wanted to do was be negligible in a situation that was controllable like this one.

“Did you actually fly on one of those planes? Always wondered what being on one would be like…” she had. she liked flying. it had been relaxing up in the air with nothing to worry about. "i did. when we go to romania next, we should fly." she said as she rested her arms on the edge of the table. "i'd have apparated, but i had to travel with the people i was with and they flew" she said as she ran a hand through her hair to flatten it out a little and push it back behind her shoulders. it had grown in the time since she'd left home, not a lot but it had grown enough that she knew she'd need to get it cut soon, she was hoping to avoid seeing her grandma molly before she had it done in case she decided to try and do it herself as she had been known to do on occasion.
“You eat yet?” she shook her head as she looked to what her dad was making. peanut butter and jam. that wasn't the worst thing she could think of to eat. she folded one leg over the other under the table. "not yet, but if you're offering to make me one, i won't say no." she said with a sweet smile at her dad. she hoped he would but if he didn't she'd make one herself, it wasn't too much effort but two people walking around their kitchen might have made it a little crowded. “So what’s the plan with those little guys? Your sister is going to freak if they’re still around when she gets back from school.” she shrugged a little as she folded her arms on the table and tucked her thumbs inside the sleeves of her black shirt. it was a habit of hers and it had driven her grandparents mad, though she couldn't understand why. she brought one thumb to her chin and rested against it and she looked back at the box where the pups were now curled up sleeping soundly. "to keep them here with me till i get my own place." she said as she moved to get up from the chair and over to the fridge in order to get a drink. she was cold but she didn't feel like anything hot in that moment so she went with a soda. good old muggle soda. "well she can freak then? i'll keep them in my room when she's here and she's old enough to know to stay away from them, isn't she?" she asked as she cracked the top and sipped the drink. "i'll make sure the place is kept clean enough. they shouldn't make her sick if she doesn't have contact with them" she said as she sat back down at the table. the beauty of magic was that it could clean everything spotless, better than anything could by hand.

@harper It was possible that they could fly to Romania. The downside was that they had to spend muggle money, in which converting from their own currency ended up turning into a big mess. Charlie didn’t mind using muggle tech; just that it was so much easier to get around using his normal means. Taking a plane to Romania, in which they had a direct portkey, floo network, and designated apparition location already, seemed a little out there. At the same time, it did seem pretty funny to try and pretend to be a muggle for a day. His own father loved doing that. Charlie let out a chuckle as he thought back to the little shed full of muggle objects back at the Burrow. “Maybe. As long as it doesn’t cost too much.”
That’s right, the muggle models that she had run off with. Charlie had taken issue with it initially, not really wanting to let Harper go off on her own on the other side of the world right after graduating, but it wasn’t his choice to make. So far (despite only being a few days since she got back), it seemed like the work and travel paid off on her end, and she was content with everything that happened during the trip. If she was happy, then so was Charlie. But now it was time to learn about dragons, and he knew that she knew that too. Tapping his wand a few times in the space behind him, another sandwich started to make itself. “You’re lucky you’re my favorite.” He smiled as the newly made sandwich landed on a plate in front of his daughter. “Don’t tell your siblings.”
Charlie contemplated Harper’s plan with the dogs if she was still there when Ondina got back from school. The real question though was whether or not his middle child would even move back in the first place. If she didn’t, then there wouldn’t be an issue at all. Of course that didn’t mean would let Harper do whatever she wanted with the dogs when Ondina was here. It was a situation they had managed to avoid so far, and he wanted that to continue. “And you’re old enough not to antagonize your sister.” Charlie briefly mentioned, watching Harper grab a drink from the fridge and sit back down. “But we’ll get to that once she comes back, if she does. In the meantime, I look forward to lots of little dogs running around here.”

“You’re lucky you’re my favorite. Don’t tell your siblings.” she smiled at him as he put the sandwich down before her and she picked up one of the pieces and couldn't help but feel her stomach grumble at the smell. sometimes it was the simplest things that were the most enjoyable. "thanks daddy." she said as she took a bite before sorting out getting her drink from the fridge. "and i won't. though to be honest they probably already know." she teased as she sat back down at the table. ondina got the most attention of the three siblings and while harper had struggled with that a lot when she had been growing up she was better now. able to understand it and see that it had to be done. though she wasn't going to admit it didn't leave her with some lingering issues.
“And you’re old enough not to antagonize your sister.” she rolled her eyes slightly and took another bite of the sandwich. "she doesn't need antagonizing before she starts trouble." she said. “But we’ll get to that once she comes back, if she does. In the meantime, I look forward to lots of little dogs running around here.” she smiled as she glanced over to the pups that were still curled up sleeping. she had to admit she couldn't wait for them to be running around either. when they got a little older it would be more interesting with the three of them but she wasn't sure she'd keep all three, though she didn't know if she'd be able to bear giving one away. "well depending on how fast i get my own place, they might not be here long at all." she said as she finished off her sandwich.

@harper It was kind of strange having a child home, especially after the last six years of virtually only having them around in the summer and winter breaks. That had been virtually impossible for him growing up, seeing as Ginny hadn’t even started at Hogwarts by the time he and Bill had graduated. Adding to that, Charlie had spent the majority of his adult life around his colleagues. Even though Harper was nineteen now, that was still more than half of his life without kids. Funny how things worked like that. “If you really want to know, I say the exact same thing to those two when you’re not around as well.” He took another bite of his sandwich. “Your brother is the only one that doesn’t buy it. Ondina eats it up though. Hopefully that doesn’t give her too much of an ego.”
Apparently he spoke too soon, because Harper seemed to have the opinion that Ondina was already in the thick of it. Charlie really didn’t want to know. What happened at school stayed at school as far as he was concerned. Hundreds of children learning about magic for the first time was bound to cause issues one way or another, and sometimes that lead students to think they were better than everyone else. With Ondina in Slytherin…well, he could imagine some things she might say and do, but at the end of the day it wasn’t his problem. Unless she hurt someone. But she would never do that. He had secretly happy that Lucy was placed in Slytherin as well, that way his middle child had one friend to keep her going. That hadn’t really been an issue with his siblings growing up, seeing as Gryffindor had been home to all of them.
“No rush. We’ll be in Romania a lot over the next few months, so getting a new place will be a waste of money.” Plus someone would still have to take care of those puppies, and Nat was always home with work. Charlie hated throwing more things on her like that, but how could anyone not love puppies?

“No rush. We’ll be in Romania a lot over the next few months, so getting a new place will be a waste of money.” she smiled slightly and looked over at the pen where the pups were. that was true. she knew they'd be well looked after while she was in romania, there was dog sitters and such and her mother would be around. she leaned back into the chair and nodded her head. "well that's true." she said as she brushed her hair off her face and tucked it behind her ear. "so tell me what's been going on around here the last few months and with the dragons." she asked as she sipped on her drink. she had sent owls to her family on occasion but she hadn't wanted to bug them a bunch while she'd been gone and it had been hard to write home when she'd missed them all so much. she'd missed the dragons and romania too, her summers were usually spent helping with them and this summer she had been away from them.

@harper Romania was going to be interesting this time around. While Charlie had brought Harper along before to take a look at dragons, and various nieces and nephews as well, this would be the first time any of them would be a coworker, let alone his daughter as well. That made his heart flutter a little. The mere fact that one his children actually wanted to continue what he had spent years on was amazing. For years he thought that he was just an object of fascination and constant fear in his family, no one ever truly knowing if that would be the last time they ever saw him. Now he had a partner in crime. Hopefully.
Harper asked what had been going on the past few months, and Charlie had to think about that question. He hadn’t been to Romania to study in a while. Quick, brief trips once in a while to drop off a dragon he caught in the city, but that was pretty much it. He was hoping this next stint, which was going to be much longer than the other ones as of late, would give him enough material to finally start on his book. Right now that was mostly just notes and jumbled scribbles. Someday that would be something amazing. “Pretty quiet really. Mating season isn’t until summer, so all of them are fairly mellow right now.” Thankfully. Rowdy dragons were a mess. They had a hard enough time during mating season with that. “So this is actually the perfect time for you to start observing their normal behaviors. Most trainees get their while mating is going on. Doesn’t really give an accurate representation of them.”

“Pretty quiet really. Mating season isn’t until summer, so all of them are fairly mellow right now.” quiet was good. it wasn't that she had a problem with rowdy dragons but she had been taught to be wary in her teenage years. it had been a young dragon that had torn a hole in her shoulder when she'd been fourteen and she had generally liked them to be calm after that. “So this is actually the perfect time for you to start observing their normal behaviors. Most trainees get their while mating is going on. Doesn’t really give an accurate representation of them.” she nodded slightly as she drained the last of her drink and she straightened out her shirt as she stood up to go lift one of the pups into her arms. "well it'll be good for a nice easy transition back to working with them. i didn't think one summer away from them would make it slightly nerve wracking to go back." she said as she cuddled the pup close and felt it chew on her fingers. "and calmer is better. i mean i don't want another scar to add to the mix." she said with a laugh as she sat back down at the table.

@harper Being nervous was good. Last thing he wanted was a daughter that was cocky going toe to claw with a dragon. He had seen too many good people go down like that. Not that being deathly scared was a good thing either, but having some nerves was to be expected. Charlie had been overjoyed the first time he went to Romania, since he hadn’t had the opportunity to see a dragon before. Harper was a little different in that regard. He was definitely going to get butterflies this time though with her there as a coworker and not just his child. Hopefully that didn’t interfere with getting the job done at all costs. “It definitely will. I’ll need it as well, having only dealt with the little guys lately.” Big, fully-grown dragons were far different than the baby ones he kept sending back. Charlie chuckled at her mention of not getting another scar. “Sorry love, that’s impossible in this line of work. You might make it a day or two at most.” That was being generous. Finally finishing off his sandwich, Charlie quickly scrubbed the plate off. They had business to do, now that he thought about it. Having the afternoon free meant that he could get ahead of schedule. “Whenever you’re ready, we can go get some of those things you’ll need for Romania. Basically fireproof everything.” With a grin, he motioned that he was getting ready to leave and for Harper to do the same. They had a lot of work to do in the coming weeks. [The End. Adios Harper <3]
