Dusti really wasn't a big fan of parties. Or balls. Or dances. Or basically any sort of socializing event. It just wasn't her scene. It reminded her too much of her mother, and that had been a particularly sore subject in recent months. She and Rusti had found out about their illegitimacy their first week back to school and since then Dusti still hadn't told her boyfriend, Albus. Oh, he probably knew something was up. She'd been particularly aggressive and angry, both verbally and physically as of late. And when she was initially getting ready? That same anger was back. Because she remembered that the Ministry employees that wanted would be at Hogwarts for the Ball as well. Including the man she'd thought was her father for her entire life. Thankfully the anger was short lived when she saw how happy Rusti was. She was, understandably surprised by her sister's excitement. Seeing as Rusti was going with her betrothed, Gaius. Dusti personally thought he was a jerk, but she'd rarely spoken to him so no doubt her assumptions were wrong.... Hopefully.
Dusti also wasn't a big fan of 'dressing up'. Despite being identical to her twin, it was easy to tell them apart. Rusti put more effort into her appearance. Tonight was different though. With Rusti's assistance (Dusti refused to admit she'd needed help), they'd managed to get her hair to hold at least some curls and Dusti had even managed to get on some make up. Not nearly as much as most girls, obviously, but for Dusti it was more then enough. It wasn't for her though. It was for Al. Might as well be a presentable date for him, right? Even though it made her feel silly.
Being in the same house, it made meeting up with Albus pretty easy. Dusti took another moment to stare at her reflection in one of the mirrors, crinkling her nose a little as she thought about how silly she must look, before she left the Girl's Dormitory and headed into the Slytherin Common Room. Folding her arms across her chest she stepped off to the side, to lean against one of the cool stone walls as she waited for Albus.

@dusti albus didn't see the point in dressing up to the nines just to dance in the great hall. it might be a big deal to some but not to him and he was certain it wasn't important to dusti either. they were going though, so he could see his family for christmas and dusti would be able to spend some time with rusti in a different setting that they usually did but neither of them planned on staying long. he was wearing his best dark jeans, a crisp white shirt that had actually been ironed by the house elves and his leather jacket. he didn't like being in areas with big crowds and his jacket was familiar. he grabbed the little black box he had been keeping under his bed for the last month or so and he tucked it into his pocket.
before he left the dorm room though, he did check in the mirror. the wounds from when he'd been bitten by the gytrash were still healing, covered in white bandages but most of them were covered. the only visible sign people would be able to see would be the hand that was still bandaged. but that was half hidden under the sleeve of his jacket. he was still limping but he could live with that, he'd done crutches before and that had been worse than a limp. he brushed his fingers through his hair as he walked out of the dorm and down into the common room. he almost stopped when he saw dusti though. he would never figure out how he'd gotten so lucky. he smiled as he made his way across to where she was standing and he let out a low whistle. "you clean up nice" he teased her as he moved to wrap his arm around her waist.

What was taking Albus? For some reason the girl was feeling rather impatient, even though she'd rushed through getting ready so she'd gotten down here long before the time they'd decided to meet at. Either way, when he did finally appear she glanced up... and let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god you aren't wearing a suit." She breathed, totally serious. The last thing she wanted was for him to have been totally dressed up. It was just... weird. But then he'd whistled, spoken and slipped an arm around her waist. Immediately she leaned into his touch, her own arms wrapping around his waist in return. "I feel ridiculous." She admitted, voicing her feelings of the whole situation. No doubt he was acutely aware of how silly she thought all of this was. What if her father (not really father) was there tonight? Her mother? She'd refused to have any contact with either of them, but even more so after finding out the big secret about her and Rusti's birth. Hell, what if her real father was there..? She'd never seen or even spoken to the man.
Thankfully the couple wasn't planning on staying long. "Are you ready to head up?"

@dusti "I feel ridiculous." he raised a brow slightly and smiled for just a second. he knew why she felt that way, they probably dressed up about the same amount, well she had a family that believed in formality, well so he'd heard anyway so he could imaging dressing up wasn't all that fun for her like it was for other girls. he'd heard them giggling excitedly about the coming night and what they were going to wear and how they were going to look. he was counting himself lucky that dusti wasn't like that. "you look ridiculous? ridiculously gorgeous." he hugged his arms around her before letting her go and he held out his arm to her. "Are you ready to head up?" he nodded his head as he turned it back to her. neither of them wanted to stay very long but they did know they had to at least show their faces. "might as well. the sooner we get up there, the sooner we can leave?" he said with a grin. he had plans to take her somewhere private at some point tonight and he'd rather be there with just her than in a room full of people.

Dusti chuckled softly as he reworded her comment. Ridiculously gorgeous. It felt so over dramatic. But he wouldn't be dissuaded, she could tell. "Whatever you say." she answered with an eye roll and small smirk before lifting her arms to return the short embrace.
That smirk widened as he held out his arm and mentioned the sooner they went the sooner they could leave. "Perfect." she answered happily. Stepping away from the wall she slipped her hand through his offered arm and fell into step next to him.

@dusti as they said their departures to rusti and gauis, al couldn't help but think the evening seemed to be going well so far. he wasn't hating it as much as he thought he would. it was dark enough in the hall to go about seemingly unnoticed and people were focused on the people they had gone with so that was good. he was currently preoccupied with his. he smiled at her and motioned to the dance floor. "want to dance a while? then we can split?" he said as he took a step back toward where everyone was dancing. he didn't want to spend too long in here, he had something to give her after all and he didn't want to wait too long, he wasn't patient enough and he wanted to see her reaction but he figured they should at least dance for a few minutes, show off their skills or possible lack there of on the dance floor.

Dusti had made sure to give Gaius one last warning look before they separated from her sister and the head boy. If he ended up hurting Rusti.... no now wasn't the time to think about that. Gaius should know good and well what would happen. Either way, she could finally enjoy just being with Albus. At his offer to dance Dusti immediately looked at him and smirked a little. She's thought he would have required a bit more coaxing before he agreed to dance. "Come on." she answered as she took his hand in hers and lead them towards the dance floor. Once there she placed that captured hand of his at her waist and his other hand in her free hand.
Dancing wasn't her favorite thing, but it was nice with Albus. They danced for several songs, content with just each other for the time and paying no attention to anyone else. It was toward the end of one of the songs that Dusti had spotted a far to familiar head out of the corner of her eye and felt her blood run ice cold.
Her father.
Well. Technically. The man who raised her. Marcus Flint. Of course he was here. He was an important figure at the ministry. A member of the Wizengamot. Thankfully he wasn't looking this way. No he was talking to... or rather flirting with the school's counselor, Madam McMillan. Without reaizing it the smile that had been there the whole time they were dancing vanished and her expression turned icy.
Dusti stopped dancing and looked back at Albus. He'd probably recognize that cold look in her eyes. The one she reserved for when her parents were nearby or mentioned. "Can we go?" she asked quietly, her gaze flickering back to her father. The last thing she wanted was for him to spot her.

@dusti al felt the change in her body and the shift in her mood after they had danced for a while and he followed her gaze to where it had been only seconds ago. on instinct he tigtened his hold on her, pulling her closer to him as he frowned in the direction of her father. he glanced down at her, seeing the icy cold look in her eye and knew he needed to agree with whatever she wanted to do in the next few moments, not because he was afraid of what she'd do, but because he understood needing to get away. "Can we go?" he nodded slightly and tucked his arm around her back gently, putting his body as sort of a visual shield as he walked with her from the hall. he didn't know the whole story of what had happened between dusti and her parents but he knew it had been worse in the last while that it had before. since they're little escapade in scotland, she had seemed colder when things turned to her parents and he didn't blame her. he didn't think he'd like to have lived under the flint household. "want to go outside?" he said as they left the confines of the hall. part of him wished that marcus had seen them and dared try something in front of the aurors and ministry officials in the room. he didn't think they'd look too kindly on someone having a go at students but that wouldn't have been good in the long run, only sweet in the short term.

There was a lot about Dusti's home life that she'd never told Albus. She almost never talked about her childhood, or home, or summer breaks. Never shared any details about what life was like. But Albus just seemed to know. Somewhere along the line he'd figured out that there was at least something going on in the Flint home. And at the end of their Sixth year she'd finally opened up a little to him about it. She didn't give any details, but she'd at least confirmed his suspicions. She'd thought that would be enough, that she'd never have to tell Albus anything else. But after everything that had happened during the summer and this school year the pressure from keeping it all to herself was getting to a boiling point. She was angry, all the time. The littlest of things set her off, and she hated that feeling. And seeing her father? That only made the pressure worse, her ears ringing as all those suppressed emotions tried to break free and explode and the room becoming uncomfortably claustrophobic.
Somehow she managed to stay in control and let Albus' lead her out. Leaving the Great Hall helped, but she still could feel those intense emotions so Al's suggestion to go outside was a welcome relief. "Yes." She managed to answer without sounding to intense. Taking the hand that was at her waist in her own she lead the way outside. She just wanted out, now. Wanted to get as far away from that man as possible. It disgusted her that he could look so proper, so normal, hiding behind a perfect mask of deception. She squeeze his hand just a little as they finally left the castle. The night air was cold and bitter, but the winter night's bite was almost a welcome relief to Dusti. She stopped walking and dropped Albus' hand as she closed her eyes and took a slow, deep breath.

@dusti "Yes." al just nodded as he followed her outside. he didn't ask questions as to why she didn't want to at least stay inside for long enough to tell rusti that they were leaving. he knew she'd want to get away from her father as soon as she could and he was obliging. he squeezed her hand lightly as they made their way outside. he let her hand go when she did and he folded his arms over his chest and he stood behind her as she took a deep breath. he wanted to wrap his arms around her, tell her it was okay and he wanted to kiss her to try and distract her from what she was feeling but he knew that wouldn't work. she needed to feel this and he was just going to be there while she did. he took his wand out of his pocket and used it to clear the snow from where they were standing. a circle of grass was below their feet and he conjured a blanket for them to sit on, casting a spell to warm the air around them so they wouldn't freeze and he stepped onto it, making to sit cross legged on the blanket and he looked at her. he knew she'd have been able to see what he was up to so he was going to let her come over in her own time.

Dusti didn't move as Albus set to work preparing a spot for them to sit. She just kept her eyes closed, head tilted back and breathing slowly. That was the first time she'd seen her father since.... well since finding out he wasn't her father. Despite having no blood ties to the man Dusti knew she was just like him though. Just as angry. Just as stubborn. Out of all the Flint children Dusti had somehow turned out to be the only one like either of their parents. Oh she hated it. Because it took all of her self control to not just give into her raw and violent emotions and go down the exact same path her father had. Seeing him only reminded her of all of that.
The bitter chill in the air seemed to melt away, and Dusti's eyes opened. Albus had cast an insulation charm to ward of my the cold around them. It cracked the wall of silence Dusti had built inside herself. "He's not my father." was all she said as she let her gaze drop to where Albus now sat. She didn't need to say what that meant. It was a known fact that neither of th Flint twins looked anything like their parents. Illegitimacy was the only option

@dusti "He's not my father." he wasn't sure if he was supposed to be shocked or not. he knew in some degree he should be but with what he knew of pansy flint it had been plausible since she didn't look a thing like her brothers. he ran his hand through his hair and chewed his lip slightly, lifting his eyes to meet her face in the moonlight. "is that a good thing or a bad thing?" he asked her, wanting to know what she thought about it. if she didn't want to answer him she had that option too. he reached his hand out to her and stretched his fingers out slightly. "come sit down?" he asked as he shifted on the blanket he'd laid out for them, glad he couldn't feel the cold through the warming spell he'd cast.

Albus didn't respond immediately to her confession that her father wasn't her father at all. It was a hard one to swallow... and admit. Obviously all the Flints knew by this point that the twins had been fathered by Ernie MacMillan. But the school? Only a few knew there. Her half brothers that she was now avoiding like the plague. Their mother and ex wife of her biological father. And, of course, Lucy Weasley. The sneaky bitch that had over heard tried to rub it in Dusti's face. Lucy had gotten a black eye for that and Dusti had gotten a week's worth of detention. It was worth it.
Now was it good or bad... "I don't know." She admitted quietly. At least it meant she could be free of him. But he wasn't nearly as terrible as her mother. It made her a bastard child. Her mother had played a role in ruining another woman's marriage. And her biological father? She'd never even met the man. No doubt he knew about her existance. And all these years... He didn't care.
Her feet moved before she could stop herself as he held a hand out to her and asked her to come sit down. Taking that offered hand she lowered herself onto the blanket next to him. "It's Ernie Macmillan. My mother didn't even have the decency to sleep with an unmarried man." She explained. Her mother just had to father her with a married man. Before he'd even fathered his own children with his own wife.

@dusti "It's Ernie Macmillan. My mother didn't even have the decency to sleep with an unmarried man." he squeezed her hand tightly as she made to sit down next to him and he made sure to hold onto it as he shifted his seat, stretching one of his legs behind her and leaning back onto his hand, getting comfortable on the rug around her and hoping she'd make herself comfortable against him. though he didn't expect her to, she was talking about something that was difficult and the last thing he wanted to do was force his affection in her when it might not be what she wanted. "macmillian. didn't see that one .. well maybe i should have." he'd learned about parvati's husband cheating on her through word of mouth and he'd overheard conversations about it in his own house while he'd been there and in the cauldron too. it seemed to be a pretty big source of gossip still. "well .. at least she's not changing expectations." he said with a small smile, trying to lighten her mood a little. he wished he could take back her seeing her father, they'd been having fun even if it had been in a room full of people.

Ever since Dusti had found out about Ernie MacMillain a part of her had been.... consummed. By the thoughts of just what might have been different in her father, her biological father, had acknowledged her and her sister's existance. If it hadn't been kept a secret from them. If she'd grown up at least knowing that Marcus Flint wasn't her real father. But maybe that would have been worse.
"I don't think anyone saw that one coming." She answered as she shifted just a little on the ground. Twisitng just a bit so her waist rested against his leg and her hand rested on the other side of his leg, bracing herself. "At least now they can only claim half of my faults are their fault. The other half they can blame on him."But, considering how she'd refused to speak to either of her parents since school started she personaly had no idea how thoroughly disappointed the were in her. No doubt extremely, like usual.
