Neville had thought that Natalia was completely out of it, but at the realization that Andy was going without her, she began to struggle and cry out. Inwardly, Neville cursed; if he’d known she would panic over being separated, he would have had her go with Andy and taken Phil along after instead. As it was, he couldn’t allow her to jeopardize herself or the Portkey. The emergency arrival room at St. Mungo’s was very strict: patients, and one person alongside each. They couldn’t afford to clutter the room with unnecessary arrivals and potentially cause injuries from high numbers of arriving patients. So he held her back, much as he hated it, until the flash of blue light carried the four people away.
Neville nodded to the Aurors. They could take it from here, and since Hermione had sent these personally, he knew they were vetted and highly unlikely to sabotage anything. Then he mentally washed his hands of the investigation. Much as he might want to find out what happened here, the Auror Department could not allow it.
Besides, right now he needed to be a father.
“Nat! Nat!” She was crying into his chest now, letting out everything she’d been keeping inside, finally letting go of the control she’d been displaying…well, probably since before she’d first come to him to escape her parents.
He rubbed her back soothingly as he held her, resting his chin on top of her head, not wanting to drag her into side-along Apparition by surprise. It was a crushing enough experience on the lungs when you saw it coming, much less when you didn’t and were being racked by sobs already. “I’m sorry, Nat. I would have let you go if I had known you wanted to so badly. But we can go by Apparition as soon as you want to. Just say the word.”
He smiled, just a bit. “We’ll go to St. Mungo’s and let Mum fuss over you while the Healers sort everything out. Andy will pull through. My girls can take anything the world throws at them. All three of them.”
@natalia (sorry is so late *_* work is a PITA, I’m actually sneaking around to post this)
