@scorp <3 Tonight, Astoria had Lyra with her. The following day she was off from all classes and decided to give Draco a break. He watched Lyra 24/7 all of the time while Astoria worked and she felt bad about it sometimes, especially since the son she was around all the time was much older and could care for himself on a regular basis. Lyra was now 4 months old and was able to hold her head up and roll over. Astoria was just beginning to allow her to try to sit up on her own. She had just given Lyra a bath and put her in her jumper, her blonde curls bouncing along with her.
She took a seat on the couch in front of her daughter and smiled. Earlier in the day she had sent an owl to Scorpius, letting him know if he wanted he could come visit and see his baby sister. He hasn't seen her since before the semester had started, so Astoria knew he'd love to see Lyra whenever he could. It was almost her nap time, but it would give Scorpius plenty of time to spend time with her before she fell asleep.

@jill This was definitely a change of pace. He saw his mother pretty much on a daily basis, but actually sitting down and talking with her didn’t happen all that often. She had classes to teach and he had classes to take. On top of that, Prefect duties kept him out and about at all hours, the rest of those days usually being spent getting work done. Needless to say, Scorpius was busy all the time. As aforementioned, today was a little different. He had received an owl from his mother earlier on stating that his father had dropped Lyra off earlier. It was kind of strange suddenly having a younger sibling, but it was nice at the same time. He would have preferred if they were closer in age, seventeen years being quite a considerable gap, but it allowed him to watch her grow up with all the same love and affection that his parents had given him without being in the way or feeling like she was taking all their attention away from him.
So of course he was going to stop by and see her. It had been a few months after all, his father having decided the last place a baby needed to be was in the midst of the Triwizard Tournament. Scorpius left to head towards his mother’s quarters roughly around curfew time. That allowed him to leave from there later on and go right into his patrol, which he still had to do after the fact. After a little while of walking, Scorpius arrived at the door and placed his hand on the doorknob. Before turning it though, he changed his approach and brought the same hand up to the large wooden door, rapping the back of his hand on it a few times.

@scorp <3 Her mug of tea was steaming, the smell of it rising up through the air and to her nose. Astoria took a deep breath, taking in the scent, and smiling at her rosy cheeked babe. Lyra's hair was light blonde and curly, just like her father and brother. Astoria didn't mind, of course. More so because as Scorpius got older, his hair got slightly darker and she expected the same of Lyra, although who knows? Her hair might stay as blonde as it is now. Lifting the mug to her lips, she took a long sip, savoring the taste. It was late, so Lyra and Astoria had on their pajamas. Lyra's onesie had small dragons all over it and it was a light blue color, complementing her eyes nicely.
Astoria's eyes widened slightly at the sound of knocking on her door, and she placed the tea down on the table in front of her and stood up, smiling at Lyra. "I believe that must be your brother!" Walking quietly over to the door, Tori reached for the doorknob and pulled it open, peering her head around the door to see her son standing there. "Scorpius, you know you haven't got to knock." Astoria laughed quietly and opened the door widening, gesturing to Lyra in her bouncer. "Come see your sister."

@jill The sound of motion from the other side of the door could be heard, alerting Scorpius that his mother was on her way. He bounced slightly on the tips of his toes as he waited, hands crossed behind his back, eyes gazing off into the black abyss of a hallway that he was in. The darkness was somewhat normalized now that he was used to prefect patrols. Prior to that, wandering around the halls at night, or as close to curfew as possible, wasn’t exactly his favorite hobby. The dark didn’t scare him per se, more so that there were a lot of things and places inside Hogwarts that one could accidentally fall or walk into. It was hard enough not doing that during the day, so it was about ten times easier under the cover of night. That made it perfect for younger students and couples trying to sneak off, but unfortunately for them Scorpius was relentless with handing out detentions for being out after hours.
The footsteps on the other side of the door got closer and closer, so he shifted his gaze to the doorknob. It started to turn, eventually opening, and his mother was standing on the other side. She laughed as she stated that he didn’t have to knock. “Yeah but it feels weird to just walk right in too.” He said, smiling sheepishly. Stepping over the threshold of the door, Scorpius headed in to see his sister. He was somewhat surprised that she was still awake at this point in the night. Didn’t babies sleep a lot? Then again, that would also explain why she was awake, seeing as sleeping all day long would make for quite the insomniac, even in a small child. “Hello you.” He smiled, as he leaned down to look at her. “Must be close to bedtime right?” He still asked, even though the internal debate he had just had with himself seemed like a pretty good reason for his sister to still be awake.

@scorp <3 Her son's smile made her roll her eyes playfully and she laughed again quietly as he stepped into the room. Astoria shut the door behind him and smiled as he went over to his baby sister. She watched him speak to her, and watched as Lyra giggled and jumped up and down at the sight of Scorpius. The more she grew up, the more Lyra looked more and more like Scorpius. It was completely preposterous to her how similar their features were.
Scorpius asked about her bedtime and Astoria let go of the door knob and walked over to them, sitting on the couch in front of her daughter. "Close, yes. She'll let me know when she's ready for bed, trust me." Laughing, she patted the seat next to her and looked up at Scorpius. "Sit down, make yourself at home! This is no different than the Manor."

@jill Close to bedtime. That meant he probably wouldn’t be around too long then. There was always more patrols that could happen. Especially with the holidays so close. Students seemed to get a little more…promiscuous, as he was sure the professors would say, with the holidays and the ball right around the corner. Scorpius was lucky to count himself out of that, at least until Christmas Eve maybe. The rest though? Everywhere and anywhere, it was slightly aggravating. If he could, he’d rather stay here and talk to his baby sister, who could only manage to giggle and bounce around. That was much better than the aforementioned.
He laughed quietly as his mother said Lyra would let her know when it was time to sleep. It didn’t take much imagination to figure out that meant either crying or whining, not that the baby could help it. Standing back up from his kneeling position, he sat down next to her, glancing around the room. Even though he had been here a few times since the start of the school year, it was strange to see his mother in such a homey situation, yet at school. She said it was no different than the manor, but he had a hard time rationalizing that. The manor was huge, more than the three, or four now, of them actually needed. The tiny private quarters provided to the professors felt more like what he was used to with the dorms than anything they had at home. The manor’s bathrooms and closets were bigger than this place. “You know, I think we might have a crawl space back home that’s just a little bigger than this. Only by a few meters though.”

@scorp <3 Scorpius had a lot on his plate this school year. With actual homework, Prefect duties, and his own social life, Astoria had some guilt for her son. She wished he could have more time to himself, and not having to please others and fill up his entire schedule. So when he stood up from his knees to sit down next to her, it was easier for Astoria to get a better look at him. He looked...exhausted. "Are you getting sleep, Scorpius?"
"Oh it's not that small here! It's cozy, perfect for just one person. Though, I do miss my own room at home. I loved it here as a child, getting away from everything and being on my own. Now, sometimes I'd just rather be at home with your father." Not that Astoria didn't love her job; she loved teaching and being at Hogwarts. It was a magical feeling, no pun intended. "Scorpius, you sound quite spoiled. Have we given you too much?" Her eyebrows rose and she laughed quietly.

@jill He looked…tired? That was news to him. Sure, there had been a lot more patrols lately to get his mind off things, but that was only cutting into a few hours of sleep each night. All of that was caught up with on the weekends though, so no harm no foul. It wasn’t effecting his school work either. If it had been, he was sure his mum would have been hovering over him like a hawk long before now. “Not as much as I should be,” he stated. There was no reason to lie, since she had obviously noticed something he hadn’t. “Picking up extra patrols, that’s all. You know how it gets around the holidays. And with the two other schools, it’s only worse. Aurors can only do so much.” He was quite aware that his mother would catch his drift on students getting a little more intimate lately. She had caught Al and Dusti in a closet only a few weeks earlier.
Her logic made sense. He had felt the same way for the last six years, obviously it being a little different now that she was a professor and all. Things would definitely have been strange if he had decided to continue with astronomy. Some students took advantage of being on their own though; he could name quite a few (like the Weasleys in his house). Dorm living wasn’t that bad, and it surely could be worse. It was a part of life, having to share space with other people. “I’m a product of my environment. There’s a few people I can thank for that too.” He stated, returning the laugh.

@scorp <3 Astoria took in a deep breath through her nose and nodded her head slowly. As Scorpius grew older, she tried to teach herself how to back off a bit. It was never in her to be a helicopter parent, and as he became more and more of an adult, Astoria had to let him make his own decisions and choices. As hard as she imagined it to be it was thankfully much easier than she had in mind; mostly because she had Lyra as well, but her first born baby was growing up and if he said he was okay, sometimes she just had to believe it. "That's true, but it is their job." Astoria would rather her catch another couple than her son, it's quite the traumatizing act.
"Well I suppose we've got to be more careful with this one!" She laughed, glancing over at Lyra. Of course Astoria was kidding; while they had given Scorpius everything he needed and more as a child and even now, Astoria knew he was far from spoiled. Scorpius had grown into a fine man, not taking anything for granted. Other family members contributed to the spoiling as they were now with Lyra, but Tori wouldn't change it for the world. "How is everything? Other than school."

@jill It might be the auror’s job to keep them safe, but some of them stuck their noses in everything. They were there for external protection, and Scorpius was constantly running into them while on patrol. The first few months had been annoying, since they thought that he was actively trying to escape the castle. Even flashing the prefect’s badge wasn’t enough for them most of the time. If the students thought the prefects and head boy and girl had ego problems, the aurors were on a completely different level. At least they weren’t subjected to hitwizards. His father had told him about that lot. Apparently they were nutters. Had to take a crazy person to do their job though, so maybe it wasn’t entirely their fault. “It might be their job, but it’s also mine. Wish they didn’t give me the third degree every time I have a patrol shift.” Scorpius stated flatly. He wasn’t expecting a response to that, more just getting it off his chest.
“She might be worse.” He joked along. Still, there was a possibility that his parents would be more willing to spoil the baby then they ever did to him. He knew all too well what it had been like growing up, and could only imagine how much had changed since then. Lyra would basically get a single upbringing, the same way he had. He’d be around still, but the age gap was enough to make a difference.
Scorpius was caught off guard by his mother’s next question. Everything other than school? Well, he wasn’t risking his life in the tournament, so that was a bonus. He’d pretty much explained how prefect duties were going. So that left everything else that he had been working on recently. For the most part, the issue with Rose had been put at the back of his mind. There was nothing to do before the ball anyways, so he didn’t have anything to fear right now. Panic and problems for that came after Christmas. “Fine? I’m not really sure what you’re referring to. I try and fly on the pitch when it isn’t being hogged by the teams or the other schools, but that’s pretty much it I guess…”

@scorp <3 Her son's monotone response made her laugh quietly. She wasn't laughing at him, but what he said. "You may as well get used to it, you'll be questioned quite a bit in this life, Scorpius." And being a Prefect was the least of it. Especially considering where Scorpius wanted to work at the Ministry. Not that he'd be able to tell anyone much as the Department of Mysteries is exactly it's title; mysteries. But Astoria had a feeling he'd be just fine in whatever he did, even if others were constantly questioning him and his job.
"She just might be. Knowing your father and I, she probably will be." Lyra would most definitely give them a run for their money. Girls, from what she had been told, were much more difficult to raise than boys. Not just that, but the drama that ensued with them as they grew older would put an even greater stress on Draco and Astoria. More for Draco, as he was her father, but Astoria had been a young girl herself once. She just hoped she'd be able to help Lyra in certain situations that her husband could not.
She tilted her head at her son, but before she spoke, she took Lyra out of the jumper and sat back down. Lyra laid her head on her mother's shoulder, yawning. "Well, I'm referring to...Rose, Albus, anything."

@jill Could anyone really get used to being questioned though? He didn’t have an issue with the authority thing, which is how a lot of students seemed to view the aurors. It had to do with the way they talked to him. Their tone. If they simply left it where it was after he flashed his badge, then that would have been fine. Most kept digging though. He didn’t have anything to hide from there. He was simply doing his job. “Because of my last name? People need to realize that I’m not the same as Malfoys before me.” That had been a frustrating thing to accept over the years. Apparently old habits and sentiments died hard. “And neither is dad.” Scorpius felt that was a necessary addition to his point, seeing as his father was vastly different from how he had been depicted in his school years. He had heard the stories from both sides and understood quite well why things were the way they were.
If his upbringing was of any indication of what his sister’s could be, then maybe his mother was right. Scorpius didn’t like to think he was spoiled, but he knew he was. At least he didn’t brag about it like some did. His name did enough on its own. That point seemed to be on its last legs though, and the conversation was shifting to his life out of school. How much did she know? Professors knew some damning things sometimes. It was actually kind of scary. Scorpius swallowed slowly as she indicated that she was talking about Rose or Al, or anything. “Well…you kind of know how Al is doing.” He cleared his throat to signal that he had heard about that little situation. In all honesty, it had been kind of funny. Al didn’t seem to think so, but Scorpius did. He wasn’t going to let Potter live that one down. “As for Rose…” He wasn’t sure how much to say. The story had been repeated numerous times already at this point to various people helping him out. He was positive that he had a game plan going forward anyways. “She wanted to figure some things out on her own.” That was innocent enough right? Not getting too deep into all of it. “I told her I’d see her at the Yule Ball if she decided that’s what she wanted to move forward with.” And until that happened, he had no idea where to go from there.

@scorp <3 Astoria realized that Scorpius had thought she meant something else, and she shook her head. "Well, no, I hadn't meant because of your last name, Scorpius. I had meant because everyone now a days is very cautious, and whether you are a Malfoy, Lestrange, Potter, Weasley, or any random surname that is not well known, most people will be questioned on their actions." She smiled apologetically. Astoria hadn't meant to offend her son or anger him, but maybe she should've worded her sentence a bit differently. "I know you are not like the Malfoy's of your past, nor is your father. You're both great men, Scorpius, and no one should ever doubt that."
Scorpius' reaction to her question about Albus made Astoria blush lightly, and she shook her head, blinking a few times, and laughed. "I-I just hope he is doing well." Astoria knew Scorpius would hear of this encounter, her son and Albus were best friends and she was sure there was nothing hidden between the two but she also didn't think it would ever be brought up again. As he spoke of Rose, she couldn't help but wonder if something had happened. "Is everything alright between the two of you? Did something happen?"

@jill He had taken the whole questioning bit and ran off with it in a different direction. What his mother was describing made sense. Actually, it made more sense than what he had just said. There were still family feuds here and there, obviously. Bad blood didn’t go away just like that even if the next generation tried to change things. He had simply assumed that was what the harassment had been about, because honestly, he half expected that his name could do that. “That makes sense…I guess. It’s nice to see them back pedal when they realize they’re in the wrong.” Scorpius didn’t get gratification from that, or feel some kind of power surge, but being told he was in the wrong when he clearly wasn’t didn’t settle well with him. He didn’t walk the tightrope between right and wrong like some did; there wasn’t enough time to waste on trivial things like that. It felt good though when his mum added that she knew he, nor his father, were like the rest of their family. There had been a lot of calculations put in to make sure they weren’t.
Apparently his knowledge on Al and Dusti’s closet adventure was a shock, or at least mentioning it was. Learning that his own mother had caught them in the act was quite the shock to him as well, so imagining her reaction the entire time was quite the funny thing. “I think they probably both could have gone without the punishments, but that’s only because they’re my friends.” Scorpius had seen enough of that on his own from other students. Rules were that they had to be written up, as much as he hated having to do that.
And then it was back to Rose. If only everything was fine between them. He couldn’t really outright say that though could he? “Ondina happened. Like always.” He took a deep breath, looking away from his mother. “But it was my fault, I owned up to it, and Rose knows that.” Or at least he hoped she understood that. He had practically jumped her and told her to make a decision by the Yule Ball. “So if you see me at the ball with her, then yeah, everything is all right.”

@scorp <3 "It is." Astoria smiled. She began to rub Lyra's back, humming a short lullaby to help her go to sleep. Her body moved back and forth slowly in a soothing motion, as if Lyra was in a swing. It was different, having one of her babies in her arms and another one of her babies sitting next to her, having a very intellectual conversation. Astoria found it very bittersweet, and she began to get a bit emotional, and she whispered to Scorpius as she stood up. "I'll be back in a moment." Tori brought Lyra into the bedroom and walked over to the crib, still rocking her for a few more moments. A small tear fell down her cheek and she lied Lyra down, rubbing her back. "Goodnight, my love." She rested her arms on the side of the crib, her head in her hands as she stared down at her daughter. "Your brother is incredible, Lyra. I can't wait for you to get to know him more."
Astoria stood up and took a deep breath, wiping her cheek and turned on the night light. Slowly backing out of the room, she left the door cracked a jar and made her way back into the living area where Scorpius was still sitting. "Well I hope everything works out, Scorpius. You deserve only the best, with who you love." Astoria smiled. "Do you have time for tea or a snack before you go?"
