Dom was having a blast! Of course, Ranger was a fun date and the fact that they'd talked before the Ball even started, clarifying that they were friends made Dom feel even happier. She wasn't leading him on, and she could have fun. Not that she'd be rude and ignore him completely or totally flirt with other people in front of him. That would be mean, and it really wasn't like her at all, but it was nice to talk to people without feeling guilty. Besides, she and Ranger were having a great time, even if they weren't together every second.
She glanced around the room, smiling when she saw someone familiar looking at the plants in the room. He was standing on the edge of the room, but it was definitely Séamus. If he hadn't told her the other day that he wouldn't mind her coming to talk to him, she might have left him alone, but there was no need now. She walked across the room, bouncing as she did so. "Séamus!" Dom called when she wasn't far away. "So how are the flowers here?" She asked curiously, since that's obviously what he was looking at.

Shay had done exactly what he had expected to for most of the night: walked around and looked at flowers. There were many, many different bouquets, which meant that he had a lot to look at. He had grabbed something to eat at the beginning of the night, and was considering grabbing another snack, when he heard his name being called. There was only one person who would be calling for him, and Dominique’s voice was distinctive on top of that. Shay turned away from his flowers to smile softly at Dominique. “H-hello, D-Dom.” He told her. He was going to compliment her dress, but she seemed intent upon jumping right into the discussion about flowers, which Shay was definitely not averse to. “Th-they’re n-nice.” He answered. “D-don’t m-mean anything, b-but th-they’re f-fresh. And p-pretty.” Whoever had been in charge of the decorations either paid special attention to the flowers or had hired someone who did, because Shay couldn’t imagine that there would be flowers this beautiful and fresh otherwise. “H-how’s the d-dancing?” He asked, hoping that it sounded like he was being diplomatic and not just odd.

He was smiling, which was definitely a good sign. It meant he probably wouldn't mind talking to her for a while, though who knew how long that would be? Not that it was a problem. Dom would talk with him for a while, but there were plenty of people here. She could have fun talking with them too. She cocked her head to the side when he answered her question about the flowers. "They definitely are pretty. You mean fresh as in freshly picked, right?" Dom asked, just wanting to make sure she was understanding him right. She smiled brightly when he asked her about dancing. "It's fun! There are so many people here to dance with and talk to. And I didn't know this before, but Ranger is pretty good at dancing. Are you sure I can't convince you to try with me?" He would probably say no and Dom wouldn't be offended by that, but she might as well offer. "Have you been looking at flowers all night or have you done anything else?"

Dominique agreed that the flowers were pretty, and Séamus smiled. “You l-look n-nice, t-too.” He said, after deciding that it wouldn’t be too awkward of a transition to make. Dominique asked if the freshness that he referred to meant freshly picked, and Shay nodded. “Within the l-last d-day or s-so.” He elaborated in case the Ravenclaw in Dominique wanted a number to attach to the rather subjective statement. Dom then began to enthuse about how much fun the ball was and how Ranger was great at dancing, even going so far as to ask him if he was really sure he didn’t want to dance. “I’m s-sure.” Shay responded. “I’d b-break your t-toes.” And that would not be a good experience for either of them. Not good for her because her toes would be broken and not food for him because he would be embarrassed about breaking her toes in front of the entire school. “I g-got some f-food.” He responded when Dom asked if he had been looking at flowers all night. That was something different.

Séamus said she looked nice and Dom looked down at her dress, surprised when she realized that she hadn't found a way to ruin it yet. Well, that was definitely interesting. "Huh, look at that," she muttered to herself with a smile. Then she looked back up at Séamus. "Thank you." Then she decided to explain her previous mutterings, "I'm not normally good at keeping things nice. I'm kind of surprised I haven't ruined my dress yet." She laughed then cocked her head as she looked at Séamus. "You look good as well," she said with a nod, then chuckled a little. So many pleasantries. She rolled her eyes when he said he would break her toes. "You don't have to dance if you don't want to, but there is no way you would break my toes," she informed him. "Unless you were trying to do so on purpose," Dom amended after a second. Some people- people like her, in fact- would take something like that as a challenge. "How was the food?" She asked. Dom hadn't even made her way over to the food yet.

Séamus let out a soft, breathy laugh when Dominique looked at her dress and appeared surprised that she hadn’t yet managed to ruin it by spilling anything on it. His suspicion about her reason for being surprised was confirmed when Dominique explained that she wasn’t good at keeping things nice. “N-neither am I.” Shay responded. He was good at getting things dirty, even when he wasn’t working with his flowers or other plants. “Th-thanks.” He responded, blushing slightly, when Dom said that he looked good, Shay had worn a suit, of course, but felt kind of silly in it, since he wasn’t planning on dancing or doing anything else that required such formal attire. “I c-could. I’m t-talented l-like th-that.” Shay warned. He had done more than one thing that people had considered impossible, so Dominique’s reassurance that there was no way that he could break her toes was frankly untrue. Not that he would try to break anything, but he would be able to do it on accident. Dom asked how the food was, and Shay smiled. “G-good.” There was nothing like a catered dinner to put anyone in a good mood.

Dom smiled when he said that he wasn't good at keeping things nice either. "But it's probably not for the same reasons. I'm just a mess constantly because I play around too much to stay nice. My sister would be proud of me right now," she declared, grinning widely. She was proud of herself too, but she wasn't going to worry about making a habit of it. That would be too hard. She nodded when he thanked her, not wanting to make him more embarrassed than he probably already was. She shrugged, "Yeah, but you're not factoring in how talented I am. I might be a mess, but I can hold my own very well when it comes to dancing. My mother wouldn't have it any other way." Really, Dom was also light enough on her feet that she could probably evade any unwanted feet stomping. She gave a big, dramatic sigh, "But I guess I won't force you to dance with me if you don't want to." She wasn't really trying to make him feel bad, but she wouldn't mind guilting him into dancing with her. If it worked. "Is there anything specific I should try?" Dom said, hoping that he wouldn't suggest something messy. She needed to be careful.

Séamus had to agree that he and Dominique were probably normally messy for different reasons. She didn’t seem like the kind of girl who would like to play in the dirt. There was a difference between accidentally getting messy and doing something that you knew would get you messy and choosing to accept that as a part of life. Dominique was the former, and Séamus was the latter. Clothes weren’t as important to him as flowers. She continued to try to finagle him into dancing by saying that she was talented enough to make up for his lack of talent, but the Slytherin shook his head. Better not to chance it. Shay shrugged when Dominique asked if there was something specific that she should try. “I th-think all of it was g-good, to b-be honest.” Everything that he had had, at least, and Séamus didn’t trust his memory enough to rattle off everything that he had eaten. “The h-highlight was the f-fondue, though. It’s out in the o-open-air m-market.” He added. There was a fondue fountain somewhere outside. Shay wasn’t sure if he could navigate back to it, but he was sure that there were people who would be able to direct them. Worse came to worse, he might be able to get there based on the smell of melted chocolate.

Dom gave a little pout when Séamus shook his head, refusing to dance with her. Really, she just wanted to see if she could help his confidence when it came to dancing ... and she liked it. No doubt about that, Dom was a dancer. She smiled when he said all the food was good and listened intently until he said there was fondue. Dom couldn't help but moan at that announcement. Why would they bring fondue to a think like this? It was practically begging Dom to partake and she would most definitely get messy! Which normally wasn't an issue for her, but now that she'd mentioned the fact that she still looked pretty nice, she didn't want to mess it up. "Of course there would be fondue," she groaned softly. Then he said that it was outside and Dom perked up a little bit. It would still be just as messy outside, but it would give her a reason to go out there. No! She wasn't going outside for fondue. She'd find some other excuse to go outside that didn't involve chocolate and other goodness dripping on her. But chocolate did sound really good right now ... "Want to show me where it is?" She asked impulsively, then cringed slightly, annoyed at herself for not being able to stay away from the fondue. She looked at Séamus, a calculating look in her eye. "But don't let me get too close. I'll make a mess if I do," she warned him. Well, this was going to be interesting.

Séamus stepped back a little when Dominique moaned, not exactly sure why she was doing it but not wanting to be in the line of fire if she vomited or punched someone or did something equally distasteful following the moan. As it turned out, it wasn’t exactly a bad moan – she was just lamenting the fact that there was fondue. It took Shay a moment to work through why that would be a bad thing, until he arrived at the conclusion that Dominique probably thought she wouldn’t be able to keep her dress looking nice when she was in possession of melted chocolate. Which was a legitimate worry. Unless… “C-can I c-cast a sp-spell on your d-dress?” Shay asked Dominique. “S-so that the f-fondue d-doesn’t r-ruin it.” He explained, in case Dom wondered why he was asking it. He had already admitted to her that he wasn’t the best student, but Séamus was hoping that Dominique remembered that his skills were just fine, and it was just the bookwork that he wasn’t so good at. “W-will R-Ranger m-mind?” Shay asked. He knew that Dominique said she was going to be bouncing around during the Ball, but this seemed a lot less like bouncing and a lot more like abandoning her date so that she could run off with another boy, which made Séamus feel oddly fidgety and uncomfortable. “I-I’ll sh-show you.” Shay said, leading the pair of them out into the market and sticking his nose in the air as they went so he could track down the fondue fountain.

He seemed a little nervous to her reaction about the fondue, but Dom was too conflicted to really care. She loved fondue. It was chocolate! But ... she looked nice. She wanted to be able to brag to Vic about how she was able to stay nice all night. Then he asked if he could place a spell on her dress. Dom cocked her side as she listened to his semi-explanation, grinning when he was finished. "Yes! Do it!" she said without a doubt. She didn't have to stay away from the fondue! She rolled her eyes when he asked about Ranger, "I'm sure he'll be happy that I'm not going to look like a disaster once I leave the fondue," she said with a shrug. "Besides, we're just friends, having a good time. I think he's dancing with someone else right now." Dom looked around the room but she couldn't see Ranger anywhere. She grinned when Séamus said he would show her where the fondue was. She followed him excitedly, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she walked. She hadn't had fondue in ages and was way more excited about it than she needed to be. "Thank you, kind sir," she teased when the fondue was in sight. She cocked her head to the side as she looked at him curiously. "Are you going to leave now or do you want to enjoy some of this with me?" He could do what he wanted, but Dom was curious about what he'd choose.

Dominique agreed enthusiastically to Séamus putting a spell on her dress, and he offered her a shy smile. She didn’t seem at all apprehensive, and he wasn’t sure whether that was more indicative of her trust for him or of her desperation to be able to eat fondue without getting it everywhere. Shay hoped it was the former, but it was probably a mix of both. Shay pulled his wand out of the pocket of his dress robes – never knew when you were going to need it, after all, especially with the way things had been at the school the year previous – and pointed it at Dom’s dress. “Impervius.” He didn’t even stutter on the spell! Hopefully that was good enough to keep the dress from being stained. If not…well, he knew a few cleaning charms that he wouldn’t mind trying out. Dom said that her date was dancing with someone else, but Shay couldn’t confirm or deny that, since he failed to spot the other boy in the crowd. Dominique thanked him for getting them to the fondue fountain without getting lost, and Shay nodded. When Dom asked whether or not he was going to leave, Séamus cocked his head at her. “I h-had intended to st-stay, b-but if you w-want me to, I can g-go?” Shay asked. In his opinion, there was no such thing as too much fondue, but if Dom didn’t want him watching her eat, then he would just as gladly leave.

Dom waited calmly for Séamus to perform the spell. When he did, she nodded slightly. Impervious. She learned that one a while ago, but she hadn't thought to use it to help keep herself clean. She'd used it more to keep rain from soaking her. Once. Then she decided that it was more fun to get wet while playing in the rain and hadn't used the spell since. "Thank you," she said brightly, excited that she didn't have to worry about the fondue anymore. Dom laughed when Séamus said that he'd lead if she wanted him to. "Why would I want you to leave? You're the one that showed me this was here. You don't need to go." Her eyes turned to the fondue and she started gathering some fruit on a plate. This was going to be fabulous. "Stay with me and we can chat while we eat?" Dom wasn't really sure if he'd want her asking questions, but why not take this chance to get to know him a little more?

Dominique asked why she would want Shay to leave, and the Slytherin just shrugged his shoulders. He wasn’t the best at understanding why people did what they did, though he was getting better at that. Being told that he didn’t need to go made Séamus feel kind of warm, though, and he smiled at Dominique. After she had finished adding fruit to her plate, Shay followed behind her, grabbing a few strawberries and pineapple chunks. He had sampled the other fruits when he had been at the fondue fountain earlier, and found that the pineapples and strawberries by far the best. There were also cubes of cake and marshmallows and the like, but Séamus could pretend that he was eating healthily if he only took fruit and slathered it in chocolate. Dom said that they could find a place to sit and chat, and Shay nodded. “I kn-know wh-where w-we c-can g-go.” He told her brightly. There was a small path that he had accidentally wandered down earlier, and there were benches there they could sit on and talk without interruption.

Shay didn't really say anything to confirm whether or not he'd stay with her or whether he was planning on leaving, so once Dom had her plate loaded up, she turned around to see what he was doing. When she saw him putting pineapples and strawberries on his plate, she decided that meant he was planning on talking with her. Then he said that he knew where to go and Dom grinned, glad that she finally read him right. It was comforting to know that she hadn't lost her touch, because Séamus often made her wonder. He just was so unpredictable to her. "Lead the way then," she told him with a smile, wondering where he would lead her. "So you had time to find fondue, look at the plants inside and find an interesting place to sit and talk?" she teased as she followed him. She wasn't in the mood for silence at the moment.
