Dearest @lionaanna , Before I get to the heart of this letter, how did the Yule Ball go? Your mother desperately wanted to go but since I had business to attend to, she decided that it would be strange to show up on her own. I guess the lure of your aunt wasn’t enough for her to make an appearance. Surely you upheld the family name, now that it actually means something in this country. It’ll only help you and your brother going forward. That aside, have you decided what your career will be yet? I know we talked extensively over the summer break about it but I feel like that didn’t exactly solve the problem at hand. I and the family name can only do so much. Take your time responding if you’re busy with schoolwork. That’s more important right now. Love,
Father

Dearest of fathers (blaise leo zabini ),The Yule Ball was lovely. I looked lovely and the only thing that would have made it better is if both you and mother had been there. Yes. My career. I believe that I have decided that to begin with I will pursue being an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries. I have no doubt that I will receive O's on my N.E.W.Ts in the appropriate courses in order to enter that position and I have been laying some groundwork to get my foot in the door. I'm sure in no time I could become the youngest Head of a department yet. How are you father? I do hope you aren't working too hard. Send my love to mother the next time you see her.Love,Your Eldest

Dearest @lionaanna , I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. I fondly remember when they held the tournament during my years there. The Yule Ball was my first real foray into that higher lifestyle without your grandmother or one of her husbands beside me. It’s unfortunate that mine didn’t coincide with the Ministry’s, but I suppose there were more important things at hand in those days… Absolutely wonderful. That’s a very demanding but rewarding career. Remind me what classes those are again? I’m positive that your goal of achieving O’s will come to fruition, but I could have a few tips regarding the tests in case I took some of them as well. I’m doing great. Work is enjoyable, though I wish with how things are these days that I could return to being a hitwizard. Your mother wouldn’t let me even if I wanted to. You wouldn’t believe some of the things muggles see. Constantly baffles my mind that some of our kind are stupid enough to do the things they do. I will. She’s due to start a new film soon, so I may make my way out to their location for a trip once things are under way. Love,
Father

Dearest of fathers (blaise leo zabini ),You at the Yule Ball? Did you go with someone other than mother? I can't imagine it. They require Arithmancy and Divination of course. I do believe that they also wish for their employees to have a N.E.W.T. in one other area. They want some diversity in what knowledge can be brought to whatever research it is they are doing. I'm choosing to sit for the Charms N.E.W.T. to meet that requirement. Once I make my connections I should have no problem securing the position.I'm glad work is going well. I couldn't blame mother for not allowing you to move back to hitwizard. You're doing so well father and I've always admired your work as an Obliviator, though I'm not saying that I didn't admire you as a hitwizard. You were always best of the best in my book of course for laying down a path for me to succeed.
I wish I could be there to see her. Where is she set to film this time? I hope it's somewhere warm. Somewhere warmer sounds nice right about now.
The tournament is set to start up again soon. And the aurors are still prowling the halls for danger.
Is it really getting that bad, father? Is there going to be another uprising?Love,Your Eldest

Dearest @lionaanna , Unfortunately I didn’t pay much heed to your mother until years after leaving school, despite being in the same year. I’ll never hear the end of it either. Divination is on the requirements now? Interesting. I could never stand that class. There needs to be a certain level of practicality to it to be worth my time. Arithmancy and Charms are both suitable topics though and can get you almost anywhere. I have no doubt in my mind that those connections will be made and will help you. I still have progress to make, seeing as I’m not head of the department yet. I’m sure within a few more years that will all change. The ministry needs some different blood in positions of power. California again. Though I think she’s set to go to Hawaii at some point as well. Once I have more details I’ll disclose them. Seeing as what happened during the last tournament held at Hogwarts, I think they are being more than cautious this time around. As for an uprising, if there is one it won’t nearly be at the same level as the last. From what I understand these are but children, nothing more. Once they are found, they’ll be removed. Like that Rousseau whelp. That’s one less thorn in all of our sides. Love,
Father

Dearest of fathers (blaise leo zabini ),They do require divination. I imagine that they do so to get rid of those who don't believe in things they can't hold on to or prove at a moment's notice. It is the Department of Mysteries and, from what little they allow the public to learn, they do research some of the things we can't see or hold on to. Divination requires that out of its learner.I'm sure you will make Head in no time father. They are idiots if they don't see your value and the fact that there isn't anyone else fit for the job. You've always been meant to be head. I guess that speaks to their intelligence already.
California? I haven't been there in a while. Do you think filming will take just long enough so that once school is over I could come visit? Oh I really hope so.
Only children? They seem organized to me.
I believe they contacted me once. They tried to get me to join their cause though I only received a short correspondence from them. I haven't heard from them since then.
They tried to offer me some sort of power but jeopardizing my future by connecting myself with their cause is unwise. I imagined you would thought something along those lines had you been in my position anyway. Promised power isn't power gained.
I'm not afraid. Continue not to worry, father.Love,Your Eldest

Dearest @lionaanna , That makes sense. Can’t say I was ever interested in that department. Guess it’s time to change that though. If you need to know anything else about it, let me know. I’m sure I can find a person or two that would be willing to divulge some secrets on how to get hired easily, not that you can’t do it on your own. I blame it on switching jobs. I never would have made head of the hitwizard department because I have a family, but had I started as an Obliviator, I probably would be there by now. A couple more years of grinding it out and I’m sure a position will magically open for me to take. Although a desk job doesn’t sound that enticing. I’m at my desk enough as it is… I think it will be. I’m hoping to escape this dreariness here, so California would be nice. They seem organized because they caught everyone off guard. It took years for anyone to take Voldemort’s return as anything serious, but they’ve all learned their lessons. If they contact you again, please let me know. This situation is rather serious. While it’s not my department’s responsibility nor my prerogative to tell you what you can and can’t do, I still work for the Ministry and can’t let that go unnoticed. Smart move. I can guarantee that it will pay off in the end. I was granted a similar offer back then, but I made the correct decision in the end. Not everyone came out of that unscathed because of the choices they made. I know I shouldn’t worry, but I still have to. Love,
Father

Dearest of fathers (blaise leo zabini ),Now that you mention it, if there is anything you can find out about how they recruit employees, I would love it if you send the information my way. I bet the process is absolutely fascinating as I'm sure that, with the job being so secretive, the recruitment and interview process is practically unheard of. Knowing what signs I should look for would be nice. I don't need the process to be easy, per se. Just knowing something about the hiring process would give me better odds though. If you hadn't had a family, would you have gone for that position? Or do your passions lie with being an Obliviator? Or does liking what you do not matter?
In regards to this new uprising, it is just rather puzzling that they have been able to stay hidden for so long. There hasn't been much information provided to the students about any progress or new findings. I'm sure it won't be much longer until they are discovered but I feel like it is taking so long since these are only children.
I don't know if they will contact me again. It was strange though. The person used spiders to contact me. Spiders brought the letters and then the spiders destroyed it quickly after I read them. Very interesting way to communicate.
I figured you had been put in a similar situation before. How is it that so many of the families involved escaped ruin? I had always been curious but I guess that isn't of much importance. How would society ever be able to guarantee their loyalty? Or if not their loyalty then assurance that they will not rebel again? Forgive my ramblings father. It's just rather curious. Love,Your Eldest

Dearest @lionaanna , It may be difficult, but I’ll look into the recruiting process immediately after sending this out. Strange that the Ministry hasn’t sent anyone over to talk to prospective students about it. I don’t believe they did that during my time either, but there are much brighter witches and wizards these days. The current Minister and I would have to be the only exceptions to that for when we were in school. Being a hitwizard is for those who have nothing to lose but their own lives. In that regard, that’s why most settle with being an Auror or Obliviator. Not to say either of those can lead one to their demise, but they don’t deal with the worst of worst. I’m perfectly content aiding where I can from within my department, even if my passions have always been with hunting down criminals. Intellectually speaking, being a hitwizard is much more…enlightening, and the tactics they explore when hunting these dark witches and wizards down is far more amusing than wiping memories is. What the public knows is far different from what the Ministry knows. I expect you won’t spread that information around dear child. As for the spiders, from what I understand, you won’t have to worry about that one anymore. Let’s just say she was a little too eager to fight with us. Your questions are the exact same ones that I’ve always had. There are some that have redeemed themselves, like your Uncle Draco, and those that are still itching to regain power that they once had. How foolish of them to think that they need to be granted power by someone else, when that same figure could just as easily take it away. Becoming strong on your own is far more beneficial in the end. Love,
Father

Dearest of fathers (blaise leo zabini ),Thank you in advance for anything you may find out, father. Maybe it has something to do with what's going on right now? With all of the madness that the Ministry is dealing with I'm sure the last thing on the to do list is vetting new workers. Granted, it should be higher up, I don't think they are in a hurry to bring in those attempting to harm the wizarding world when they aren't entirely sure who is in agreement with those who want to do so. It sounds as if you really miss it. Maybe you should try talking to mother about going back if you really want to? I say try because, as you said, she won't stand for it. You can always try. There is the possibility that you will become head of your department soon and moving departments you'll have to start over. Maybe.
So she has been taken care of? Interesting. I have no one I wish to share the information with father, so there is no worry there. I keep secrets far better than you know. Though maybe I should not divulge that to you? That information won't leave these letters.
Uncle Draco is different and Aunt Astoria has a lot to do with that. Some of the others are... questionable to say the least. I guess that is not for me to say. When I'm minister, I won't be so forgiving. I can only assume that those who do show their true colors will be dealt with swiftly. I will make sure that I become stronger on my own. Make sure that the Zabini name mantains prestige. Love,Your Eldest

Dearest @lionaanna , It must be your lucky day, my dear. The recruitment process seems rather simple, at least by how they explained it (they being some rather quiet and strange characters that stand outside the department’s front doors). From how they put it, it’s the same registration process that we use in the Obliviator office, although different requirements. I think you’ll be pleased to hear that the subjects you listed off a few letters ago are exactly the things needed to at least get an interview with the department. From there, I can’t help too much. The rest will be on your own. If it helps though, I do believe they actively look for new employees every year. Hopefully with the way things are going, they don’t decide to retreat and close ranks on those willing to stay in case something happens… You’re not wrong, trying is all I have. She made me swear before you were born to leave the hitwizard lifestyle alone. Doesn’t mean I can’t aid them when they need help, seeing as I’m still an Obliviator. Unless there happens to be a spell that can bring back the dead, then yes, she’s gone. As for secrets, whenever you feel them necessary, I will listen. When you’re minister, then we won’t need to worry. Those that hide are cowards. Taking pride in oneself, while considered a sin by some, is integral to moving upwards in society. The ones that let others do it for them are destined to fail. Love,
Father

Dearest of fathers (blaise leo zabini ),Wow. That is simpler than what I was expecting. Of course, I wasn't expecting the information to be available at all. Thank you again father. Is it odd that I'm a little disappoint that the information was there for you? Not because I didn't want it but because that speaks to the security of the department. I am glad that the information on N.E.W.T.s matches up with what you found so I feel a little bit more prepared. I do agree though; I hope they don't close ranks. I'm confident that everything will be settled before it comes to that. I'm more excited now for what the Department of Mysteries holds and I would hate for this rebellion to ruin it. I can only assume that helping out wouldn't just be offering advice? Mother might not like that. I say it's better to do things yourself to make sure that they're done right... Just be careful of course, father. Not that you need me to tell you that.
This may be my last corresspondence for a little while. I've got a project to complete for Divination tonight and soon I'm going to start focusing more on studying for N.E.W.T.s and preparing for graduation but I will keep you updated father and owl just to say hello occasionally. Again, give mother my love and hopefully I will get to come see you and her in a much warmer place soon. Thank you again for everything father. Love,Your Eldest

Dearest @lionaanna , I have a feeling that the application process is just the starting point for the job; there is surely more to it than simple requirements and forms to fill out. Not everyone is cut out for the Department of Mysteries though, so the information I found could be a process to weed out those not truly invested in all of it. I hope they take your application of skills and abilities into account once the forms are processed. In which case you most certainly won’t have to worry at all. Helping out is inevitable when our cases are intertwined. Whether I conveniently make myself available to aid them more often now than I used to, well, let us leave it at that. But of course! Studies are important. Don’t let me keep you away from that. I intend to visit Hogwarts during the second task of the tournament. You can report to me how things are going again during that, should it not distract you from the impending NEWTs. Love,
Father
