Knowing yourself is the first part of the battle, right? I guess everyone else knows it, too, if they don’t have that expectation of you.
Publishing is easy, from what I understand. The problem with writing – well, not the problem, but the thing that makes it hard to magic-ify – is that the truly brilliant parts of it, like the emotions behind it, can’t be produced by a spell. They have to come from a human, and how a human chooses to express those emotions doesn’t have much to do with what medium they’re using to express them.
It gets closer every day! Funny how time does that. I’ve also been writing to one of your professors. I don’t know her surname, but her first name is Kamillia – you might see her at the signing. I don’t care if you can vocalize or not! Like I said, I’m chatty enough for both of us. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , True. I think I’m more suited for helping after anyways. Apparently I have a natural talent for healing spells? That makes sense. How many letters do you get stating that the reader didn’t understand why you wrote something a certain way? I guess I’m included in that total, though I still stand by my original criticism of Seven. She’s the Care of Magical Creatures professor. It’s a fun class, though some of the creatures at this level are a little too aggressive for me. And good. Because it won’t be pretty. Just a warning.

Capitalizing on your natural talents is just about the best thing you can do with your life. It’s so much better than trying to force yourself to be something that you’re not.
Most of the time it’s not the reader not understanding why I wrote something, but rather not liking what I wrote and giving me an earful or two about it. Very rarely do people seem to want to reach understanding in arguments. If the letter was polite enough and not just a bunch of vitriol, I’ll normally respond even if it was a critical letter. I don’t want people to think I only like them if I agree with them, you know?
Oh, that’s interesting. I’d imagine the creatures on this side of the pond are a little different than the ones we had in America…What magical creature is your favorite?
I’ll consider myself warned. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , I agree. Fighting isn’t made for everyone anyways. If I’m not going to contribute, then why be there in the first place? (I now realize that this is probably the exact same thought process my father had during the last war) Has a question ever been raised that you agree with? Like a mistake that was made or wasn’t exactly clear in the story? I figure a lot of that is ironed out in the editorial process. But it makes sense that you respond to good criticism. Those are the people that deserve responses anyways. I don’t know too much about creatures from elsewhere, but I like kelpies. They’re apparently dangerous, but something about the horse head shape they take is intriguing.

If anything, being there when you’re not fighting is worse, because it means you’re an extra body that your friends have to try to avoid. I’m a fighter myself – got that Scottish blood in me, you know – so I’m glad that we still have the same conclusion.
Several questions I’ve agreed with, but part of being a writer in this day and age is agreeing without really agreeing – words can be twisted so easily, so if I admit that something is poorly written and it gets into the wrong hands, my career can go into shambles. Editing does help with getting rid of imperfections, but editors are people, too, and just as fallible as writers.
I’ll do some more research on those, I suppose. My favorite creature is a Thunderbird – it was the Ilvermorny house I was sorted into, and my wand also has a thunderbird feather as its core, so I suppose I’m a bit biased. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , Thankfully there aren’t too many of those to worry about me. Friends I mean. Hopefully that doesn’t make it sound like I’m lonely. I’m not. Just like the calm and quiet I guess. I wish people would understand human error more. Everyone does it, so there shouldn’t be as much criticism when it happens to those held at a higher standard. I’ve heard stories of those! That’s loads better than a silly badger, which is what my house mascot is.

Having a few good friends is much better than having a lot of poor ones. I’m kind of starting over in the friend department, since I moved away from my school and home. Luckily I still have Rory.
There are a lot of things I wished people would understand more, but I’ve stopped hoping for it to happen. Maybe that makes me a pessimist, but the world hasn’t really done many people a lot of favors, so assuming it won’t change for the better seems like a better bet.
Badgers can be pretty fierce! Honey badger takes what it wants.
I can’t wait to see you tomorrow at the signing! cordelia regan smith (end? we can have another owl for them after their thread?)
