@jill2 January 1st. The start of a new year. It had creeped up rather fast, especially with all the commotion around the Yule Ball for the past few months. December in general had breezed by, ushered in with the help of the tournament. Grey had never imagined that he would have stayed at school for break, but it had benefitted him more than he thought it would have. Things needed to be finished up both in his personal life and with school and club work, so sticking around ended up being more beneficial than he had initially anticipated. That being said, the slow crawl to the start of the new semester was brutal. The Yule Ball was over, he had finally broken free of Ondina’s stupid little love potion plot, and he had managed to make an enemy out of one of his roommates. Or maybe it was the other way around. Apparently bad mouthing Daryl Thomas wasn’t a smart move, but it wasn’t like Grey had said anything that wasn’t already known. And yet Daryl thought the best way to take revenge was to take it all out on Addilyn. For whatever reason it seemed like the number way to get back at him was to target his sister. These people had absolutely zero class. What happened to talking or dueling it out? He’d have no qualms getting beat verbally or in a duel to have it all end like that. Instead it was targeted harassment of a younger sibling. Technically Grey could play by those same rules, but he wasn’t a Daryl or an Ondina. He had better, more tangible means of bringing those two down if he really wanted to, and all from the freedom and coverage of the press.
Still, watching what Daryl did and the reaction that came from Edmund after it had left a bad taste in his mouth. It had been a week, and he had barely seen his sister around. That didn’t leave much up to the imagination and applying critical thinking skills to it, Grey deduced that what Edmund had seen was far from what actually transpired, eventually jumping to conclusions that were neither true nor fair for Addi. Initially he had decided to take a step back and let them figure it out on their own. Unfortunately there was a certain level of injustice to all of this and he was starting to think that enough time had passed for him to finally step into the ring. Edmund had helped him figure things out with Addi, it was only time that he repaid that by coming up with a plan to fix whatever this mess was. He was unsure how much Claire knew, or could even put time aside for, or if she could even handle that topic right now, but Grey knew it was going to be a reach for him to some extent, never having experienced anything real in terms of relationships. He could try and figure it out though. Usually when that happened he ended up solving more problems for himself than the person he was trying to help.
Grey had discovered that the best way to corner Addi was to wait by the entrance to the dungeons in the entrance hall. He knew that meant the possibility of coming across Ondina and Edmund, but he really didn’t care at this point. If she exited dungeons, there were only a few different places she could go to get away from him, and he would most definitely be in hot pursuit. So there he was, idling around in the entrance hall with nothing to do but think of how all of this could go down, if it even did in the first place. There was always the possibility that Addi just wanted to move on and forget about it, as much as that would probably hurt her. Giving up like that didn’t show that strong of a resolve though, not that he should be one to talk.

Keeping to herself in her room was Addilyn's newest hobby. The only time she had left the dungeons recently was for food or class. Even then, she tried to bring food into the Common Room so she didn't have to leave. She hadn't seen anyone, other than the people in her classes. Yet she didn't speak to anyone; Addi made sure to sit on her own and far away from others in the back of the classroom. What was worse, was that Edmund was in almost every single one of Addilyn's classes. Seeing him made her hurt more than she could imagine. If there was a choice for her to miss her classes, which, she did, she'd take it. Not that she'd tell anyone that. But right now, school wasn't the first thing on her mind.
Right now she was becoming hungry, the sounds her stomach was making were getting louder and it was giving her pains. Addi slowly crawled out of bed and threw her hair up into a bun. She had on a pair of dark grey sweatpants with cuffed ankles, and a long sleeved dark green shirt. She threw on her black running sneakers and brushed her teeth before quietly sneaking out of the Common Room. As she walked along the dungeon floors, she put her hands in her pant pockets, walking with her head down.
Whoever she managed to pass, she made sure to keep contact with the floor. Addilyn wasn't planning on speaking to anyone, which might be difficult as this was a fairly common time for other students to be out and about in The Great Hall. Addi finally exited the Dungeons, and she looked up. Who she saw, standing there, directly facing her, made her stop in her tracks. Addilyn's eyes widened. Grey. He must be looking for her, considering he was just standing there. Swallowing hard, Addi didn't move from her spot, and just looked back down at the ground.

@jill2 Grey knew his little tactic was going to work, seeing as he had done it numerous times when love-potioned by Ondina. Apparently there were a few good things that had come out of that whole ordeal. It didn’t take nearly as long as he had anticipated either. Factoring in that Addi probably didn’t want to eat when the rest of the students did, it came down to waiting either before or after the majority were in and out of the Great Hall. This time it seemed like the winning time was after everyone, because as most went into the dungeons, only a few came out, one being the small blonde girl. Grey moved a little closer to the door so she could see him, and it didn’t take too long for that either. All she did was look up at him though. Didn’t say anything, didn’t move. She looked a lot worse than he had expected as well. “You look like hell.” He wasn’t one to mince words, especially under strenuous circumstances like this.
Taking a few steps towards her, he thought about grabbing hold of her to drag her somewhere to talk. If things were going to get ugly during this planning stage, it would be best if people weren’t around. Grey stopped though, pulling his arm back to his side. Maybe bringing it up right away wasn’t actually the smartest idea. “Hungry?” Food was one of the only reasons he could imagine his sister actively getting up and leaving the dorms in this condition. Grey turned and headed towards the Great Hall. If she followed him, then he knew she wanted to talk, or at least want some kind of company.

Hearing Grey's blunt voice made her lips twitch slightly, but no smile ever really formed. Addilyn wished it would, but she wasn't sure if there was anything that could make her truly smile anymore except possibly Edmund. And he was avoiding her like the Plague. Having Grey here was a plus, but Addi didn't know what to say back to him. She knew she looked terrible; not only because she was dressed like a bum, but she hadn't gotten much sleep lately. The bags underneath her eyes were beginning to look almost exactly identical to her brother's, and that was never good.
Addilyn looked up at him as he began walking closer. Her eyebrows rose slightly as her emotionless eyes watched him. He looked as if he was going to grab her and run, and she narrowed her eyes slightly as if daring him, but his arm dropped. And then within the matter of a few seconds, he asked if she was hungry, turned, and began walking towards The Great Hall. Addi groaned, her head falling backwards as she looked up at the ceiling, and then followed her brother into The Great Hall, looking back and forth at the people walking by her. Grey was a few steps ahead, but she made sure to sit in front of him as they found a table. A large mug of coffee appeared, and she pulled it towards her slowly, staring down into the tan colored liquid.

@jill2 Grey knew he had made the right choice by not dragging his sister off to interrogate her. The way she had looked at him when he started to reach out for her arm was scary, to put it lightly. The last thing he wanted was to get punched in the face again, especially when he was trying to help this time around. Thus, into the Great Hall he went, hoping that she would follow him. If not, then he could find time to corner her again. The only thing she was losing out on was getting all of this squared away and back to the way it was supposed to be. Finding a table a little bit away from everyone else that was still in there, Grey sat himself down, somewhat surprised that Addi sat across from him. He was sure that she was going to bolt back in the dungeons. There wouldn’t have been much he could have done at that point other than wait to do this again another day.
Coffee appeared before Addi, and Grey had to stifle a laugh. She was starting to look like him, just with some extra emotional baggage attached on top of all of it. All he wanted was a sandwich, which thankfully there were plenty of on the table already. Reaching to grab two, because they were normally rather small, he took a bite out of the first, maintaining the silence that they had for a little longer. Swallowing, he took a sip of water from the goblet that appeared before him. “So Edmund saw the worst part of it all. I’m assuming that means things weren’t pretty afterwards.” Grey had witnessed the whole event as well, and from his angle it had been quite clear that Daryl had pulled Addi towards him and she had pushed away. Edmund on the other hand had stormed out of the Great Hall before the whole thing was done with. “How can I help?” What came first though was whether or not she wanted help in the first place. Placing the offer out on the table right away never hurt though.

She wasn't positive why he looked so giddy. There wasn't anything Addilyn could think of or see that would be even slightly amusing to anyone, especially Grey. Unless he was laughing at her of course. Then she'd definitely just have to leave. But for some odd reason, Addi couldn't find the will power to move from the seat. This is what she had come here for, some food. And the coffee of course; she wouldn't be able to function the rest of the day in the dungeons without her coffee. And while Addilyn had many friends that could go to the kitchens for her, there weren't any she wanted to speak to about what happened so she avoided them.
An unusually small plate appeared before her, and Addilyn grabbed two pieces of toast and slowly began to butter them. She hoped her stomach could keep this down, especially since food had been scarce for her. And then Grey spoke his name, and Addilyn almost dropped the knife on the table. Her eyes shot up to her brother and she blinked multiple times. Who knew that even a name would cause such a reaction? Blinking some more, Addilyn swallowed and kept her gaze on her brother, her shoulders moving up and down in a shrugging motion. "Don't know."

@jill2 At least she was eating, because so far she hadn’t even uttered a word. Grey had no idea what had happened after he confronted Daryl at the ball, pretty much assuming that Addi and Edmund would figure it all out on their own. Should he had gone after Edmund as well? It might have been rather invasive to do that, but there was probably also a good chance that he and Addi wouldn’t be sitting here having this one-sided conversation on how to fix that whole mess. Apparently bringing Edmund’s name up right now wasn’t a good idea though, Addi giving him a glare that he didn’t know was possible from her. She hadn’t even looked like this when she punched him. And then she finally responded, only giving a short, brief explanation that she didn’t know how he could help. Grey sighed, rubbing his eyes in the process. Here he was, trying to help, and she wasn’t even sure if she wanted it in the first place.
Grey didn’t immediately respond, instead taking a few more bites of his food, embracing the silence that was starting to dominate their conversation, or lack thereof one. He figured he’d let her sit on the offer a little longer before piping in with what he thought could work. At this point he was just another tool in her arsenal to win back Edmund, or at most, make him understand what had really transpired during the ball. “Do you want things to go back to how they were?” Grey finally stated rather bluntly. “And please don’t say that you don’t know. Obviously it’s hurting you Addi, so you need to come up with a solution.” He omitted the bit where she either had to fight to get back Edmund or learn to move on from him; because it was going to have to be one or the other at this point.

It really wasn't that Addilyn didn't want help. She did. But she couldn't find the energy to try. She was exhausted, mentally and physically, and depression was taking over. She didn't know what to do. Her best friend was gone, he hated her. There was no way she would be able to try to do anything about it. Her chest felt like it was in a constant pain, being pulled and sliced over and over again. Her head always hurt, from the pain of remembering what happened and always sleeping. But her bed was just so comfortable...it held her when no one else would. She just wanted to be okay again.
Addi took a small bite of her buttered toast, sighing in content at the wonderful taste and closing her eyes as she chewed. No matter what she did, how long she slept, she was tired. Always. And she hated it. Hated feeling this way and not being able to physically do anything about it. When her brother spoke she opened her eyes to look at them, no emotion shown. "Obviously I do." Even trying to talk was taking energy away from her. She just felt like crying out of frustration. Addilyn dropped the toast back on the plate and pulled her coffee closer. "There is no solution. He hates me. He wouldn't talk to me."

@jill2 Grey was relieved to hear that his sister wanted to fix things with Edmund. It’d be silly if she didn’t, especially after all that had happened. There was no real justification on the Slytherin boy’s reasoning, other than that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Obviously that was going to bring some heat, but all Grey had to do was help Addi understand that explaining it all to Edmund would probably help out. He was sure that the immediate aftermath that night had seemed like an excuse coming from Addi. Now more time had passed, and hopefully Edmund had cleared his head up and thought about it a little more. It had only been a little while after all, and nothing was ever expected to be fixed in an instant. The funny thing about this was that it all happened because of a misinterpretation. There was no real reason for Edmund to be mad, thus it wouldn’t be hard to fix once Grey could sit down and explain it all or come up with a better plan. Talking things out had seemed to work for him so far this school year.
“That’s because he’s being an idiot.” Harsh much? Maybe. Now wasn’t the time to hold back though. “You didn’t do anything wrong Addi. Like I said, he saw the worst part of it, and without any context…well, I don’t need to explain it.” They had all been there, some being a little more personal than others. “I thought you hated me when I wasn’t talking to you, but look how that turned out. Not the best example, but nothing is impossible.” Except bringing back the dead. He was pretty sure that was impossible. But this Addi and Edmund thing wasn’t dead, more like on a hiatus, so that wouldn’t be an issue here.

The tan abyss of the coffee in front of her was interrupted by her brother's comment. He called Edmund an idiot. And while Addilyn would love to physically agree with him, all she could do was give him the smallest of smiles. It was nice to know that he agreed with her and realized that Edmund had seen the wrong thing. She had no idea what had happened afterwards between Grey and Daryl, except that Grey had looked very very angry. "I know I didn't. And whether he's an idiot or not doesn't change the fact that he thinks I cheated on him."
She looked back into her coffee and took another long sip, rubbing her fingers against the glass of the cup. Grey spoke again and Addilyn sighed loudly, looking up at him with another glare. "I didn't hate you Grey. I was disappointed in you. You know I could never hate you, I love you." Addi shook her head. Sometimes Grey seemed crazier than her. Taking the last sip of her coffee and immediately reaching for more, she spoke quietly. "What did you say to Daryl?"

@jill2 She had a point. It didn’t change anything, other than that Edmund was still being an idiot despite the whole situation being a non-issue. The issue was that he was refusing to listen to the truth, instead relying solely on this alternate idea that Addi was seeing Daryl, which didn’t really make sense at all. This was a problem that never should have happened in the first place. In a way, it was all his own fault. Daryl only went through with it because Grey had been talking about him. Which was funny, because he hadn’t really said anything that others weren’t. It had been made quite apparent that his housemate had a thing for Ondina, as Grey had noted during the ball. He was sure there were other girls that Daryl had wrapped around his finger, so at the end of the day, was his statement about the other Gryffindor really that wrong? He was against pressing that issue any further though, because damage had already been done. There were numerous things he could have done in retaliation, whether it was by using the paper or going after Daryl’s sister the way he had done to Addi, but that wouldn’t have made Grey the better person in all of this. That was too much work, and cleaning up the aftermath was hard enough as it was.
He nodded as Addi explained that she had never hated him, but had been disappointed. The punch to the face would have said differently under any other circumstances, but maybe that was just her way of showing frustration. “Maybe you should punch Edmund then. Worked for me. Just not as hard, because you want him to like you. I’m kind of stuck with you so it didn’t really matter.”
As she asked about Daryl, Grey was unsure of what to say. It was his fault that everything happened, which had been made rather apparent the second Addi stepped away at the ball and he confronted the other Gryffindor. “Told him to run back to Ondina, since I was done with her. He was probably jealous or something.” Grey looked away for a second to make sure that Daryl wasn’t in the Great Hall. He couldn’t see his housemate, or anyone else in Gryffindor in their area, for that matter, so he was more than likely safe to discuss all that. “Apparently I was right on the mark about him. If he does anything else to you, let me know.”

If you had asked Addilyn a few months ago who she thought would come to her side and make her laugh after a difficult heartbreak, she would've never said Grey. She probably would've said he'd be the one person to stay furthest away from her. But they'd come so far, and instead he had gone looking for her to fix everything with her. And when he mentioned her punching him and how she should punch Edmund, a smile slowly crept onto her face, and Addilyn began laughing. Not loudly, but quietly to herself. After only a few moments, the laughter turned into a sob, and a few tears fell down her cheeks. "Well I want you to like me too, even if you're stuck with me, Grey."
Addi wouldn't punch Edmund. She couldn't punch him, he was too pretty to ruin. And he hadn't made her angry like Grey did. She made herself angry though punching herself wouldn't do anything for her but make it look like she got into a fight with somebody. "I will. Don't worry." Grey said Daryl was probably jealous and Addi just shrugged, wiping the tears away from her face. She had no idea who or what Daryl liked or if he even wanted a relationship with anybody. Addi grabbed her toast and took a bite, realizing how hungry she was. "Thank you, Grey. For everything. For doing that. For finding me. For helping me."

@jill2 As much as he didn’t want to admit it, seeing his sister in this state hurt him. It seemed like she couldn’t catch a break this year, not that he was of any help in all of that, and whenever things started to look on the up again they ended up plummeting back down. That was no way to live life. At least she could laugh at his awful commentary still. He had never thought it was that interesting in normal conversation, but always seemed to have an odd effect on making the mood lighter. “You’re alright I guess,” he laughed. Going back a year or two, he wouldn’t have even had a thought like that, let alone be caught sitting across from his sister during a meal, except at home. Those were definitely some fun times…
Grey felt a wave of relief go over him as Addi agreed to tell him if Daryl tried to pull anything else on her. At this point in time, he wouldn’t put it past his housemate to do something just to make it clear. He knew he’d have to hold back from going after Daryl if that happened, but it was still a possibility at this point. People seemed to not be able to let go of grudges at Hogwarts these days. Watching Addi take a bite of her toast, he knew he could finally relax. If she was eating, that meant she was consolable in this whole thing, and that he could help her come up with a plan with a clear mind. “Of course. That’s what I’m here for, right?” He smiled, as he took another drink from his mug. “Plus, mum would kill me if she found out I didn’t try and help you when you needed it,” Grey laughed, as he finished off his drink with one last sip.

"Thanks." She gave a small smile to her older brother. The only time the two had ever told each other that they loved one another was a few months ago. It was emotional to say the least, in Addilyn's opinion. Grey probably wasn't even phased as he had thought Addi knew that, but in all honesty she hadn't. She'd always thought her only brother hated her to pieces, especially with the amount of fighting and arguing they did as children.
She finished her first piece of toast and shrugged. "Maybe that's what you're here for. Though I will say you might be a couple years late to a few things. Thankfully Claire was the nice one at those moments." Addilyn smiled a bit brighter at Grey. She couldn't really blame him. He had his own issues he had been working through as the three siblings grew up together and while she had always pushed him hard to be close with her, it eventually did happen and she was grateful for that. "I think mum would kill the both of us if she knew everything that's gone on the past few months."

@jill2 Grey nodded his head as Addi pointed out that he was a few years behind on a few things. She could say that again. There wasn’t much he could do about that now, unless he had a time turner, and even then, he was pretty sure he wouldn’t do anything differently. They were right here, right now, for very specific reasons. As much as he didn’t buy into that ‘future-seeing’ mumbo-jumbo and fate, it oddly played a factor in more things than he cared to admit. The more he stood back and observed things, both past and present, it seemed to fit into place even better than he had initially thought. If magic was real, so could fate and that certain things did have a reason that they occurred. Thankfully he wasn’t in divination anymore, because if the professor heard him talking like that, they would have dragged him into the classroom and forced him to stare into a crystal ball for the rest of his life. It was a nice hobby, but unless someone had real powers linked to fortune telling and seeing, then there was no reason to be cooped up reading tea leaves and doing palm readings. Muggles could even do that.
“I know, I know. Cut me a break,” he grinned. “I’m glad Claire helped you though. I think she tried to help me too, for a while there, and I just pushed her away more.” More like actively ignored her so he could do his own thing. “I’m content with keeping everything a secret from them, if that’s fine with you. They’ve messed things up enough as it is, breeding this stupid competition between us.” Or just between him and Claire. He was pretty sure Addi was smart enough to keep out of that one. Now that he knew Claire was held to the same ridiculous standards they had wanted him to go for, it was much easier to place blame on them for all of this. Wonderful parents they were. “But enough about me,” Grey stated, trying to get back on track with what was currently going on. “What are you going to do about Edmund?” He really hoped she’d say get him back, but anything was possible.
