It was just after the Holidays, and Olivia assumed that her and Grey would still keep up with their weekly meetings. They usually took everything from the rest of the students on the Newspaper Club and looked through it, doing editing and figuring out what they were going to put into the school paper. The week of Christmas they had cancelled their meeting, since there was a lot going on and a lot of the other club members were busy or hadn't been at the school for the break. But, now that it was all over, they had a ton of things that were brought into them, and a ton of drama that had been exuded from The Yule Ball.
Olivia walked into The Great Hall, and hadn't seen Grey at any of the tables, so she chose a random one and slid in, bringing out her papers and pen. Reaching over, she grabbed some coffee and yawned. Oh she'd need this, especially with everything her and Grey had to go over. Olivia was glad the two got along, she'd consider them friends even, especially with the amount of times they met over the school year. Taking a sip of her coffee, she began reading a piece that had been submitted.

@jill15 The first official editors meeting of the year for the paper. That’s what today was. That sounded rather formal in his head, but that was exactly what this was. There was a lot that needed to be sifted through, most of which would probably tossed aside. He had virtually given the club members free reign of the Yule Ball, for those that stayed, and he was already aware that not all of the articles that had been written up fell within the parameters of what could normally be produced by the newspaper. Everyone wanted to be a gossip journalist, because apparently that was all the students here cared about. They finally had a real event that could generate readership, and instead of following through with that, all the writers did was give him stories about how so and so threw water in whatshisname’s face. There was a better source for that, the gossip witch or whatever she called herself. Grey had no idea who produced that material, but a lot of it could be pretty damning. At least his secret columnist wasn’t that cutthroat.
Making his way into the Great Hall to meet Olivia, as per usual, he spotted her sitting at a table far off, already with papers splayed out all over the place. It was too bad that they were both seventh years, because he had been hoping to pass off the editor-in-chief to his junior editor, which obviously wasn’t possible in their current state. Instead it would have to be whoever was next in line, and since there was a handful of capable sixth years, that was going to be difficult to choose. The decision would be made at the first full club meeting at the start of February, so that the new editor-in-chief and junior editor could get used to things with him and Olivia still there to watch over. “Morning,” he yawned out, taking a seat across from her. Grabbing a cup of coffee as well, he slid a few of the papers in his direction, only getting a quick glance at the lead lines before adding them to a pile of their own, which was eventually going to be the reject pile. “Anything good yet?”

Olivia looked up as Grey entered, looking tired as always. Her eyebrows rose at him when he sat down, and she smiled, stifling a laugh with some papers still in hand. "Good morning, good sir." Shaking her head, she let out a small chuckle, and used her empty hand to sip her coffee as Grey got his own cup. His yawn caused a chain reaction, and Olivia put her coffee and paper down, letting out her own yawn and covering her mouth with both hands. Sighing loudly, she rubbed her eyes. "Get some sleep, would you? You're making me tired." Whether Grey was able to finally understand her accent she was unsure of, but she hoped he had. It had been a few months now, though it was funny at times.
"Good...hmm, maybe. There's tons of stuff about the Ball of course, and the Tournament. Nothing new, though." Olivia supposed that was going to happen. With those being the two biggest activities going on at the school, that was of course going to be the biggest subject of the paper. "Let me know if you find anything different in all this." She shook her head as she looked over at the large mess of articles. Olivia finished her cup of coffee and filled it once more, knowing she'd need it. "Did you enjoy the Ball?"[/b

@jill15 He snorted at the comment about getting sleep as he lifted his coffee up to take a sip. If only Olivia understood how hard he tried to sleep. It simply didn’t want to come to him naturally anymore. He had thought that the summer had fixed it, but within a month of being back to school last term, it was like nothing had changed. If he didn’t know any better, he’d take a guess that someone had hexed his pillow to give him restless nights of sleep. He’d already been love potioned for a solid month, who knew what else those nasty Slytherin girls had up their sleeves. At the end of the day though, he’d gladly take insomnia over being love potioned. That left a gross feeling all over him for the weeks following his cure. “Trust me, you don’t want to see what happens when I sleep. I actually have feelings and things.” Mainly because he had the energy to worry about things other than how long it would take him to get to a class walking as slow as possible, or how much coffee he’d have before noon. For reference, the answer to the latter is a lot.
Grey turned his attention to the work though, because that’s what they were here to do. He made a face as Olivia stated that nothing was really new aside from the most recent tournament events. Wonderful. That’s all they needed to do, was to continuously beat a dead horse over and over again. There were plans for the Ball, in the form of the advice column. Grey was already planning on having his secret club member do more responses in lieu of the normal amount that she was usually required to complete on a weekly basis. The gossip part of the paper had blown up, much to his initial vexation, and it was getting students to read the other articles as well. So, being the great editor-in-chief that he was, Grey decided to step up their game in the articles they put out. This week’s selection was looking rather poor though. From the ones he had taken when he got there, it was practically everything he had assumed would be there. He figured those would be a good start, but there had to be something better in there somewhere. “Did I enjoy the Ball?” He repeated her question. “In my own way I guess.” Grey had considered everything that had happened, from Ondina, to Rai, and finally to getting in between Addi and Daryl, as a personal achievement in a way. He wished he had handled the issue with Daryl a little better, and maybe said more with Rai, but that was said and done with now. He could always do that moving forward. “How about you? Can’t recall if I saw you or not.”

Grey's snort made Olivia look at him with a scrunched up face. She wasn't sure what exactly he had found funny but that was alright with her. But it was most likely either her good morning or her get some sleep comment. Either way, Olivia thought him laughing was funny in itself. Usually Grey was so straight faced and exhausted looking, that any sight of humor in him was nice to see. "Oh, feelings, huh? How horrible." She chuckled, shaking her head at him. 'What's wrong with feelings, Grey?"
His answer to her question about the Yule Ball was not expected in any sort of way. She knew he had gone with one of the Slytherins, a Weasley, though what her first name was wasn't crossing Olivia's mind and she didn't really care. Liv had never spoken to the girl before and if they hadn't spoken before, or even attempted it, she usually didn't try to figure it out. "Your own way...I'm assuming something went wrong." Her eyes narrowed slightly and she smiled. "Anything you'd like to dish out that I could write up?" Olivia was kidding of course, but she couldm't help but laugh. "I had a good time, yes. I had originally planned on not going, but a new friend and I made the decision to just go together. Lance Linley, he's a Hufflepuff. A year below us I believe."

@jill15 What was wrong with feelings? Were they really having this conversation right now? Letting out a sigh, he placed the few articles he had in his hands on the table and replaced them with his coffee mug, taking a long sip from it. It was still boiling hot, almost tasteless, but it got the point across that he was thinking. “Feelings,” he started, “can get in the way of doing my work. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind them from time to time, but losing my cool doesn’t help me out at all. It’s better off using logic and reasoning to get through situations than with emotions.” He realized that what he had just said didn’t apply for all situations, but there were moments where he was both right and wrong. What he had been doing the past seven years had yet to hinder him too much, so he didn’t see any point in stamping it out now.
Grey laughed loudly as Olivia pointed out that something must have gone wrong. “Yes and no. I knew what I was getting into, so I was fine with the outcome.” He wished Ondina had thrown more of a fit, instead of running off to suck face with Daryl, but a win was a win and he wasn’t one to complain about that. “Nothing that we would write about. There are other sources for that story. Plus,” he added, “I’m not a big fan of potentially ruining people’s lives like some are. Ask me again in a few years and maybe I’ll tell.” Ondina deserved everything that came to her, in his personal opinion, but it was too much effort to bring it forward to the school. They both knew what was at stake, and having dirt to blackmail her with was actually quite fun. “New friends are always fun. Will he get a second shot or just stay a friend for now?”

Any conversation was better than no conversation, in Olivia's opinion. Sitting in silence was something she avoided at absolutely any cost. She couldn't stand just doing work and not singing or speaking with someone else. While she knew it was a preference for others, she'd keep it up until they told her to shut it. "I suppose that could work sometimes. But if there's something you truly feel in your heart, that doesn't just go away, Grey. It'll nag at you and nag at you until you listen to it." Olivia smiled. She understood his point of view, but it did depend on the situation which way you took it all.
She smiled at his laugh as she marked a few things on the paper in front of her. Olivia took a sip of her coffee and crossed her legs, her right hand resting in her lap. "I'm sure we'll find something regarding you, though I'm not sure anyone in the Club will want to write about you." Laughing quietly, she took another drink of her coffee. Grey seemed scary on the outside, but Liv had spent enough time with him that she knew he wasn't that way. He asked about Lance and she smiled. Olivia wasn't one wanting a relationship, especially in her last year of school which was what worried her about taking a date to the Ball. But Lance was nice, and she got along with him fairly well. "I...don't really know. And that's the honest answer. He's nice and a great friend, but I don't think a relationship would be good for me right now."

@jill15 There was some kind of strange irony in Olivia’s comment about how feelings could keep nagging until you had to listen to it. That’s exactly what that blasted love potion had done to him. Again, he wasn’t sure if he could call those feelings (in the realest sense, of course), or if it was an insane amount of obsession that he had with Ondina while under the potion’s effects. The fact remained though that the constant need to talk to her was only satiated the second he managed to pull himself together and ask her to the ball. The scary thing was that Olivia was completely right about it. And maybe that was the part that scared him the most; that manufactured feelings were possibly that close to the real thing. He couldn’t sit back and let that thought go without making some sort of comment on it. “That sounds more like obsession to me,” he stated, rather bluntly as he flipped through another couple of papers that all seemed to be the same. “Let’s just say I’ve had a run in with something like that before, and uh…” he hesitated to say more than he needed to. Not everyone needed to be made aware of his little problem throughout November. “You’re not wrong that you have to get it out sometimes. I’d still rather reason with it though.” Grey made sure to add the last bit, knowing fully well that it contradicted everything he had just said. That was fine with him. The love potion had been against his own volition, and there was no way that he could have controlled what his brain was telling him while under it.
“I’ll make sure they won’t want to write it,” he muttered, mostly to himself. If any of his juniors had managed to catch wind of any of his various conversations on the love potion during the ball, then that was something that was going to take a little more than a mere cover up. He knew that Ondina getting in trouble for that would spell more retaliation, and he was kind of tired of their petty drama. It was amazing that it had taken him this long to realize that the group of Slytherin girls were more bitch than witch. “If ours don’t have something on me, I wouldn’t be surprised if our friendly Gossip Witch will have one or two pieces. They always seem to know what’s going on in the school. Kind of creepy.” That had been one of the reasons why he had been adamant about putting in an advice column in the paper, so that people would blabber to his paper and not the gossip articles that appeared from time to time. He’d seen far too many rumors spread through that thing.
Grey was somewhat surprised by her response. He wasn’t exactly watching her facial reactions closely while she said that the boy was a good friend, and nice at that, but Grey still caught that smile. Setting down the paper he had been going over, he stared at her until she finished talking. “Is that so? You would have had me convinced otherwise with the way you looked when you just talked about him.” Grey took another sip of his coffee, not breaking eye contact from her. “But what do I know?” He said simply, grinning slightly as he put the mug back up to his lips.

Olivia smiled knowingly at Grey. She had heard a few things about him, but Olivia wasn't a gossiper. Which sounded kind of ironic considering she was on the newspaper, which spoke of other people and other things. But when she heard something about someone, she didn't take it as truthful unless it was from the mouth of the person it was about. Nor did she ever talk about others. She knew if someone did that to her she wouldn't like it, so she wouldn't cause that pain upon another person. "That's exactly what your heart wants you to do; reason with your brain. So good on you for doing that."
Grey spoke of the Gossip Witch and Olivia chuckled quietly. Thankfully nothing had been released about her yet, but it had about Grey and his little sister, that much she knew. At least from the grapevine. Olivia hadn't actually ever read what the Gossip Witch wrote, it didn't do her justice as she doubted it as any ounce of truthful. "It is. But I suppose it could be all of the paintings. Always have to watch what you say around them." She smiled.
Olivia's eyes widened at Grey and his comment on her smile about Lance. She wasn't embarrassed, just shocked that he had been so forward about it. And as he grinned, taking another sip from his drink, Olivia bit her bottom lip and shook her head, laughing. "That is so. He's a good guy, but I don't think he's in the mood for a relationship either. At least not now."

@jill15 All this talk on what the heart wanted and feelings was starting to get to him. Action before thinking. That was the difference between him and Olivia on a fundamental level. He was a Gryffindor; she was a Ravenclaw. While he thought about hypothetical and theoretical things, she analyzed real things. Scary that there was that much difference between houses. Her point still held merit though. If he was going to reason with anything, specifically himself, then his heart had to be in it. Grey still preferred the headstrong, jump in first attitude though. He was a Gryffindor after all. “I like when things are simple. Thinking about what your heart and brain want out of something is too much.” He shrugged, turning another piece over on the pile in front of him. Giving it a brief glance told him that it was useless, just like the rest of the rejected pile he was now adding it to.
Grey clicked his tongue as Olivia brought up the paintings being just as bad sometimes. “Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s where this Gossip Witch gets all their information from. There’s absolutely no way one person can be receiving rumors without leaving a trail.” There was a catch to that of course: if the Gossip Witch was actually a group or organization. Those were much easier to hide, especially if the writer was the only one that needed to fear being caught. Having a group surrounding and protecting that person. That made sense to him. A secret underground gossip article that gained more notoriety than his paper was annoying. “If we can find a lead on the Gossip Witch about who they are, or what for that matter, that would make the past seven years here worthwhile.”
Finishing off another sip of his drink, he listened as Olivia explained that she didn’t think her friend was in the mood to be in a relationship. Interesting. Grey knew what that was like, seeing as he had been unwillingly forced into that last thing. “Maybe the right call then.” Like he would know. He wasn’t exactly an expert on these things by any means.

Olivia just nodded. They were two different people after all, so arguing about how each of them felt wouldn’t get them anywhere. She was thankful she was that type of person, one who purposely thought about everything before speaking or continuing on with it. It saved her from many, many arguments. More specifically, with Bernard. The two of them had so many differences that it was hard to not argue with him. But she loved him anyways.
”That might be really difficult. We could potentially have one person try to focus on that, if you’re really willing to do so. Though I feel like we might be wasting our time unless we get some type of edge on who it may be.” It wasn’t that she wanted to sound rude, just honest. In the end, however it came down to whatever Grey chose as he was the Editor. But Olivia couldn’t even think of a single person who would be behind it all. And for all they knew, it could be a Professor.
Now that he had spoken that way of Lance, she couldn’t stop thinking about him. Not in a romantic sort of way, but what if he did have feelings for her? It didn’t seem like it. Would she develop feelings? No, she couldn’t. It was her last year, and she had to focus on graduating with perfect grades and making her way up in the Ministry. It wasn’t time for relationships and boys, but she couldn’t help but have a nagging thought in the back of her brain. ”Maybe.”

@jill15 Olivia was right. Hunting the Gossip Witch was probably a waste of time. A futile effort if he’d ever seen one. It had been a few years since it first showed up, and if nobody knew who it was by this point, then that was probably how it was going to stay. Some magical higher power clearly didn’t want him to know who it was, and was purposely pulling strings to lead him astray. Every time there was the hint of a lead, it ended up fizzling out before there was a chance to follow it completely. The funny part about all of this? He had Lyla, who was just as hidden and secretive about her role in the newspaper as the Gossip Witch was on their end. He had been hesitant about adding her on board, but it was starting to combat the problem a little bit. The Yule Ball was an inevitable tailspin of gossip and news, which he had completely expected, but so far the enemy had been quiet. Maybe the school would be lucky and the student running it would graduate sooner rather than later.
“I’d rather not divide and conquer. We’re already spread thin between each champion, the tasks, Quidditch, and everything else in between.” They needed more club members, or at least ones that knew what true journalism was like. Not whatever half of these articles that they were currently looking at were supposed to be. He’d have some choice words about stepping up their quality at the next club meeting. Sorting the few articles that were acceptable into a separate pile, he stared at the few that were left. Finally there was an end in sight. “I think these will hold us off for a few weeks, at least until the second task starts up,” he stated, holding up his neatly organized pile. “Anything else stand out?”

"Of course!" Olivia completely agreed. She didn't think adding on this stress would help anyone, considering all of the things the paper had to write about now. Hopefully when they had their meeting as a club they'd be able to discuss a lot more things with the other members. In the end it was really Grey who made all of the big decisions with help from Olivia, but they always took input from everyone else. They didn't want any issues among the group and that's really what the meetings were for, as well as to figure out the final copy of the paper.
Olivia nodded and threw her last few papers in the no pile. "I think so too." She took the pile and separated them by different subjects; the task, the champions, sports, relationships, etc. "Nothing else, not to me!" She smiled at Grey and sighed loudly, sipping her coffee. "So how are you? In general? Enjoying having the other schools around?" Olivia was sure it was hard for different people, but she, being from America, liked having people from different cultures all around.

@jill15 He was glad they were in agreement on not divvying up their responsibilities. This late in the game, there was no reason to really worry about the gossip pieces. Sure, they ticked him off and served as a constant aggravation when the average reader preferred to clump both groups together as one. All he wanted to do was hold the club to a certain level of journalistic integrity, which was usually dashed aside by the aforementioned. Some of his club members could be idiots, Grey included, but that didn’t mean they were out there to cause harm towards others. The Gossip Witch was the complete opposite of that. “I’ll have a talk with whoever takes over, and see if they can start working on figuring it all out. They’ll need something to do next year without the tournament here.” That was an understatement. They would probably lose a good portion of their members. The tournament had brought in quite a few new faces, mostly sixth and seventh years, but the younger members that joined could very easily drop out at any point. Wouldn’t matter to him at that point. The work they were producing wasn’t exactly high level to begin with. Half of the articles they were tossing out right now were from those same individuals.
Grey flipped through the last article in the pile. It was from one of the older members. At least it had an interesting leading sentence. Most of the other ones didn’t even have that. Just thinking about bringing that up to the club hurt his head. They shouldn’t have to be doing a workshop on how to write an article this late in the year. That aside, Grey tossed the current one in the keep pile. It was better than the other ones like it, so it would probably be used. All of the ones that he and Olivia had greenlit still needed to go through a further editing process; both of them would have to read each one again, note corrections, and then send them forward to get printed. In short, it was a long process.
“I kind of like it,” he responded. “They keep to themselves mostly, but when they do decide to strike up a conversation with me, it always takes a few seconds to register the accents again.” He supposed it wasn’t that strange, considering there were plenty of students at Hogwarts that had some strain of accent, let alone weren’t from the UK to begin with. “Although, having more people wandering about means I lose some of my sleeping spots. I wish I could get those back.”

Olivia knew Grey had a point. The both of them were seventh years and would be doing more with their lives come next Fall. It was stressful knowing that the paper had no one to take over once they graduated, and while Olivia had a feeling one of the Professor's would know what to do or who to bring onto the paper, it was still that small worry for her and Grey. "They will, that's for sure. Maybe they'll have some idea on what to focus on." Olivia would be lying if she said she wasn't thinking about it for them; having her own school work to concentrate on, as well as the paper and all of her hobbies was enough. Not only that, but figuring out her career and applying for a program would take it's toll on her.
His next comment on the other visiting students had her laughing. She always thought the English accent was very easy to follow, so Grey speaking registered quickly with Olivia. Though there were times she knew her own accent confused people, so having the French and the Bulgarian around took everyone for a turn. "I can see how their accents could be difficult at times, especially where both can be so thick." Her own accent was Southern, and Olivia knew when she was excited or angry she got a bit more difficult to understand. "Find new sleeping spots. Or hey, use your bed!" Olivia laughed and gave him a wink.
