Viola had asked for lessons in learning to chase what they wanted, but they had never expected their first lesson to be like this. For days they had been trying to find Maria, and for days, she had been evading them. Every day Viola had considered giving up at least once - Maria would come back from them, she always did - but things were different now that the pair had put a label on their relationship. When they thought about chasing Maria, Viola was ready to give up, but when they thought about their girlfriend, they found new fire, and they kept searching, even when every day it seemed less and less likely that they would find Maria. Every night when they laid down to sleep, Viola thought about how the next day, they could do better. And the night previous, Viola had finally come up with a foolproof plan. Well, not foolproof, but as foolproof as any plan Viola made could be. They were waiting under the table at which Maria normally sat for meals, hoping that she wouldn't think to look underneath and then Viola could finally, finally catch her.

Evading Viola shouldn't have been this much fun. After all, Viola was their partner now. But the fact that Viola hadn't given up just made her grin and keep it going. Part of her was curious just how long Viola would put up with the torment, and just what they might do to put an end to it. While Viola may not have seen her, Maria had seem them. Often. How else would she have managed to avoid them so expertly?
It was early, most people not even thinking about breakfast yet. But Maria had always been an early riser. She also liked how few people were up this early, so she could usually eat with few distractions. This morning she hadn't spotted Viola anywhere, and deemed it safe to continue with her usual routine. As she wandered into the hall and sat down at her usual spot she found her mind wandering to just where their partner was, and what it would take for them to finally catch up with her. They'd been playing this game of cat and mouse for months now, but this was the first time it'd ever been Maria doing the running.

Viola didn’t know how long they had been under the table for. They had gotten up earlier than was probably necessary to ensure that they would be properly hidden away by the time Maria went to breakfast, but once they had hidden themself, time was hard to gauge. But it didn’t matter how long they had been waiting, though, because the time came when a familiar pair of legs made their way over to the table, and Maria sat down, almost directly in front of Viola. They didn’t dare move the extra few inches to be closer to Maria, just in case the movement was heard and Maria up and ran again. Viola slid their wand out from underneath their sleeve, and pointed it at Maria’s legs. They probably could have gotten way with saying the spell underneath their breath, but since they were supposed to be practicing non-verbal magic anyways, it seemed just as well that they said the spell without the words. Petrificus Totalus. Viola was going to wait to see if the spell had actually worked before making any more moves, but they hoped that this was the end of their chase.

Hmmm what to eat. Maria was eyeing over the trays of food, trying to decide what eat this morning. Part of her just wanted to say screw the consequences and take a hearty helping and thus risk the chance of not being able to finish eating if Viola showed up. The more logical part of her advised for her to go with something more easily transported and light, because staying here too long was only asking to be found. She didn't want to make this whole chase easy, after all! She needed to see just what Viola would do to put an end to the game.
Maria had almost decided on taking something light and leaving when she felt... Oh hell she knew that feeling. Her muscles tightening and freezing. Her limbs locking in their current positions. Her entire body freezing up, completely non responsive. Petrified. Someone had just petrified her. Who? Where? Thankfully eyes didn't freeze like the rest of her, but even then she couldn't find the source. She couldn't turn or move to try to figure out where the spell had come from, or who might have cast it. Maria felt a wave of anger that someone would dare do it. But then it turned to confusion as she still couldn't find the source.
Despite her confusion it never crossed her mind that it might have been Viola.

Viola had waited for the moment when she could see Maria’s limbs lock, and when it happened, they could have jumped for joy. They didn’t, though, because they were underneath a table and jumping was not something that was easy to do. Viola did, however, squirm out from underneath the table, moving so they were sitting right next to Maria, who they smiled at impishly. “Gotcha.” They said quietly, moving to place their hand on Maria’s thigh just a little bit possessively before mentally incanting the counterspell to the jinx they had put Maria under, so she could move again. Viola hoped that this had proved that they were willing to go to extreme lengths for Maria, though, so running away wasn’t going to be necessary. “Do I get a prize for doing so well?” Viola asked, batting their eyelashes at Maria with a small smile on their face. They wouldn’t mind another kiss like the one that had started the cat and mouse game, if Maria was willing to give one.

Oh, Maria should have known.
No one else would be brave enough to petrify her like this. That, and Maria had told Viola to do anything to catch her. Anything did, obviously, include jinxing. As her partner took up the spot next to her Maria would have laughed. You know, if she could move. Which she couldn't. Petrification did that to a person. Her eyes flickers to the corner of her eyes, straining to try and get a good look at them but unable to. Their hand on her thigh also would have warranted a grin. Then, thankfully, she felt the counterspell working. Silently cast, and releasing her body from it's prison. Maria let out a slow breath as she felt her muscles slowly relax and release. "Clever." Maria breathed as a grin slowly stretched across her lips.
A prize? That grin turned wicked. Maria turned a little on the bench, to better face her partner. She wrapped a hand around the back of their neck, pulling Viola in and giving them good and thorough kiss. Viola hadn't pulled away last time, so Maria didn't bother holding back again. Viola wanted a prize, so Maria would give them one.

Clever. Viola liked that word, especially coming out of Maria’s lips. Viola quirked their lips into a smile when Maria grinned back at them, and it seemed she didn’t intend to start running again, which was a good thing, since Viola wasn’t in the mood to start chasing again. Their request for a prize had also been well received, and this kiss was just as scorching – pun intended – as the first one had been. Viola wondered briefly if Roxy was somewhere in the Great Hall watching this happen, but they pushed that thought out of their mind. If Maria could have all of her conquests, who was to say that they couldn’t have Roxy, too? Of course, they’d have to actually ask Roxy about that bit, and Maria, too, since they intended to have something more with Roxy than just sex, so…wow, this was getting complicated. “I think I’m beginning to learn.” Viola said when they pulled back from the kiss. “But I have to say, I’m fine with waiting forever before another lesson.” Being without Maria had been weird, especially since it had happened right after their official proclamation of romantic partnership. “Breakfast?” Viola asked. Now that their game was done they could both relax – and eat.

Well, a good thorough kiss this early in the morning was definitely a nice wake up call. Maria could get used to this. Even though it was still insanely strange to think that Viola was more than just her current fancy. Maria had never been a girlfriend before. She also would have been more than happy to keep that kiss going much longer but Maria didn't want to push her luck with the Hogswarts staff. They were much more stingy about public displays of affection than the Durmstrang professors. So, after making sure to thoroughly kiss Viola she broke the contact, dropping her hand from the back of their neck and bracing her elbow on the table. Still grinning.
"There are plenty of other ways to teach you. Physically chasing is always just more fun." She answered. "Besides I've been casing you for so long, it's nice turning it on you." Maria did like chasing Viola though. Even with their new relationship status she was pretty sure she'd be doing plenty of chasing. "Hm, well, now that I don't have to worry about giving you a good chase, I think breakfast is a great idea." At least now she didn't have to take something like.

There were other ways to chase, beyond just physically? That sounded like something that was going to be frustrating to learn, to be sure. At least with a physical chase Viola could see where they stood, quite literally, and they knew how the chase ended. With other kinds of chases – emotional? Sexual? – the present standing and the end point weren’t nearly as clear. But that was also what made them interesting. Viola smirked a little when Maria said that she had been chasing them for so long that the role reversal was nice. “Bet when you started that you didn’t realize we’d end here.” Viola wasn’t sure if Maria would intentionally chase someone who was looking for a relationship, but she had done it anyways, and there they were. The good thing about agreeing to breakfast was that they were both already there, so all Viola had to do was turn so they were facing the table instead of Maria. “Got any plans for Hogsmeade?” They asked as they took a slice of toast and began to butter it.

Maria tapped her chin with a finger at Viola's statment. About not realizing they'd end up here. Maria had never planned on things getting here, that was definitely true. But Maria had also always known that Viola wasn't just a mark. "No. But I've also never considered you as a temporary distraction." Maria admitted. Romantic, platonic. It didn't matter. Maria just knew that... Viola had a pull that she couldn't resist. Even if Viola had told her no to any advances for the rest of her life, Maria would have been content. Maria had been totally straight faced as she made the remark, and turned back to the table as if there wasn't anything wrong with her statement. Even though most people might find such a statement from Maria to be extremely unusual. Admitting that someone wasn't just a temporary fix in her life, where everyone was temporary fixes...
Maria eyed the trays of food in front of her, trying to decide what to eat first. Finally, after much deliberation she decided on oatmeal. She spooned a good helping onto her plate, and then topped it with far to much sugar. "Hmmm, I was planning on stalking Elias and his date for a bit, but other than that nothing." She admitted casually, shrugging as she stirred the very sugary oatmeal. Oh, wait. They were together now. They should do something, shouldn't they..? That's what couple did. "Do you want to do something? Together?"

Viola didn’t know why, but Maria admitting that they were never a temporary distraction made them feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Which was weird, because they weren’t really the warm and fuzzy type person, and they didn’t think that Maria had intended the compliment to be as sweet as it had been. “Glad to hear it.” Viola said, pausing in their eating of their breakfast to press a soft kiss to Maria’s cheek. This was weird, especially since they hadn’t ever seen Maria talk to someone like this, or be with someone like this, but Viola was going to take it. They did like being the first, after all.
Maria said that she didn’t have any plans for Hogsmeade, which was a relief. They would have felt lame if she had already planned something. “Elias has a date?” Viola asked. That was some new information. They wondered if it was Margaux. Back on the subject of Maria and Viola, though…“Apparently there’s a tea shop that people, like, go on dates in.” Viola said with a shrug. “Apparently it’s gag-worthy, but now that we’re dating, we should probably go to the date-y place.” And Valentine’s Day was going to be around the Hogsmeade visit in February, so then the tea shop would be packed to the gills. Viola didn’t mind being around large crowds of people – loved it, really – but it wasn’t the most ideal situation when they were trying to focus on Maria.

Maria just shrugged at Viola's response, as if what she'd said had been obvious. Though that kiss on her cheek made her smile smugly. That was the second time Viola had kissed her. Maria had initiated every other kiss between them. But hey, Maria liked kissing. As strange as it sounded it was almost a way of expression for her at this point. She could express every single one of her emotions just as clearly through kissing as she could any other way.
As they ate, the topic of the next Hogsmeade trip was floating around. What Elias would be doing. What they could do. Maria lazily ate spoonful after spoonful of oatmeal, periodically adding more sugar. You'd think she was trying to turn it into a desert. "Yes. Though he refuses to tell me anything other than a name and has banned me from asking anyone for more information." It shouldn't stop her, it really shouldn't. But she respected her cousin, and she was trying to be better about her... possessiveness of him.
A tea shop? For dates? Maria stopped eating and tilted her head to look at Viola with a raised eyebrow. She never would have expected Viola to suggest they go somewhere 'gag-worthy' as they worded it. But, who was she to complain? So, Maria nodded at the same time as she popped another spoonful of oatmeal in her mouth. If that's what Viola wanted to do, might as well.

Viola watched, slightly intrigued, as Maria ate her oatmeal. That much sugar couldn’t be healthy. Then again, Viola wasn’t one to talk, considering they were taking perfectly good bread and smothering it in cholesterol. At least they had stopped after their initial application instead of periodically adding more butter, though. Eating habits aside, though, Viola was trying to listen to Maria talk about Elias’s new person. “What’s the name?” Viola asked, partially out of their own curiosity and partially because they wanted to be able to help Maria in whatever way possible. Just because Maria was banned from asking anyone for more information didn’t mean Viola was, and they wouldn’t be stingy in sharing the details with their girlfriend.
Maria looked shocked at Viola’s suggestion, and they shrugged their shoulders. “I don’t really do the whole date thing. So if I only get to do it once, might as well go all out, right?” This was definitely going to be a one-time thing – the tea shop, that was. The jury was still out on whether or not Viola would be taking Maria on more dates, and part of that depended on how their first date went. There was also Roxy to consider…Viola almost wished that their thoughts didn’t keep sliding back to Roxy, but she intrigued them in a totally different way than Maria did, and they felt like they needed to at least experience both before deciding which one they wanted – if they decided at all.

Maria stopped eating as she thought, trying to remember the name of the fellow. Oh what was it... She knew she'd heard at least the last name multiple times. The spoon was still pressed against her lips as she though, her eyebrows furrowing a little as she tried to recall the name. Florian.... Frances... Frank.... She pulled away the spoon as it came back to her. "Fred Weasley." She stated clearly, very sure of the answer. Yes, that had to be it. It didn't help her at all, because she was just as sure that she'd never met anyone by the name 'Fred Weasley'.
Maria's eyebrow raised even higher as Viola admitted they didn't do the dating thing. A smirk quickly followed. "Neither do I." She admitted, but it really wasn't a surprise. Maria had never been a 'dater'. "Okay, deal. Around lunch?" Sure, going to a 'gag worthy' tea shop didn't seem too appealing, but she'd be willing to try it. For Viola. Always for Viola. Dammit, why did Viola have her so thoroughly wrapped around their finger that she'd agree to this without putting up a fuss?

Viola had been fully expecting not to recognize the name that Maria gave at all, but they were surprised to find that they did recognize it – at least one part of it. Weasley. Not only was that the surname of the Hogwarts Champion, it was also Roxy’s last name. Which meant that this Fred character was probably Roxy’s cousin. Interesting. If – when – they got to talk to Roxy about the whole romance thing, Fred would be a good thing to bring up. There was also the matter that Elias was dating anther guy, though Viola wasn’t sure they were at liberty to gossip about that sort of thing, since they had a girlfriend.
“Guess we’ll figure it out together, then.” Viola said decisively when Maria agreed that she didn’t do much dating either. “Lunch time it is. I’ll meet you out front.” Viola wasn’t sure what they’d do in the morning, but maybe after lunch they’d be able to convince Maria to do something silly and impulsive with them. There weren’t many silly or impulsive things to do in Hogsmeade, though, so maybe that part of the whole ‘ideal first date’ thing would have to go ignored.
