@scorp finally, he was going to cross something off his short bucket list. he was going to build his own kite. he'd seen them in books and in some places when they'd ventured into the muggle world when he'd been a kid but he'd never had one. he wasn't sure, but he could remember flying one but it was one of those memories where he wasn't sure if it was true or if he'd been dreaming about it. either way, he'd got himself a kit when he'd been home last and he was finally getting around to building it. with andy in the hospital and classes just starting things were a little stressful and he was worried about her, he'd known something was wrong but he hadn't done anything and it was eating him up inside. he'd talk to his parents about it when andy was a little better but he was making a point to be better about that, if something was wrong he'd do something about it. do more than talk to someone. actions spoke louder than words. he was sprawled out on the floor of the defense against the dark arts classroom, having asked professor jakebson if he could use the space so he didn't take up anywhere else in the castle and he'd helped to clear the class of desks. now he was sprawled out in the middle of the room, pieces of the kite and what he needed surrounded him and he was laying on his stomach as he tried to put the kite together. he leaned over the instructions and frowned a little at them. "this goes .. there .. and that .. where?" he mumbled to himself as he tapped his foot against the stone to some sort of random tune as he tried to figure out what was written on the page in front of him.

@henry Scorpius didn’t often have questions for professors that he couldn’t figure out on his own or through a book. Thus, this was a strange occurrence indeed, heading up to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom from the dungeons, hoping to get a quick word in with Professor Jakebson on the subject at hand. The question was quite trivial, an in most situations wasn’t even worth mentioning, but for some reason it had been bugging Scorpius nonstop all week and he had to figure it out once and for all with the help of the professor. Thankfully the class was only on the first floor, because he seriously didn’t want to ponder his question up multiple flights of stairs. That was asking to step off onto empty air while not paying attention. Untimely death could wait until after graduation, thank you very much.
Pushing the door to the classroom open, Scorpius was met, not with the typical class layout nor Professor Jakebson, but with a wide open floor, Longbottom, and what looked like arts and crafts. Looking around the hallway awkwardly, he stepped in, unsure of what he was about to encroach on. “Didn’t know you were into that stuff Longbottom.” Scorpius piped up as he crossed the room slowly. He had no idea what this creation was, considering it looked like it was still being built. “Any idea where the Professor is?” He glanced around the room, not seeing any sign of life from the man. That probably meant he was either out for the day or somewhere else in the castle. Waiting any longer with this question was going to kill him.

@scorp “Didn’t know you were into that stuff Longbottom.” jay lifted his head from what he was doing and he grinned. "i'm not usually. but i've always wanted a kite .. so." he said as he put another piece where it was supposed to go according to the directions on the paper. it might seem strange to people that he was building one, rather than using magic to put it together or buying one that was already assembled but he'd wanted to do this from scratch, he couldn't really explain it. “Any idea where the Professor is?” he scrunched his face a little as he thought about whether or not the professor had said something about where he was going or not. he reached to scratch his hand over the back of his neck and he shrugged a little.
"i think he might have said something about seeing his son? or going out in the sun .." he said as he glanced to the window. it was a rare winters day when the sun was poking through the blanket of clouds. "what did you need to see him about?" he thought as he went back to what he was doing, without really thinking it might not be something scorpius wanted to talk about. "since he's not here though ... want to help?" he said, lifting his eyes from the mess around him to the blond slytherin student with a smile on his face.

@henry A kite. So that’s what it was. Scorpius didn’t have much experience with stuff like that. Couldn’t even recall ever flying one, although he was sure he had at some point when he was younger. These days though, simple things like this were needed, especially to get his mind of everything. Not everything in life had to be done at 110% and serious all the time. He had the help from some friends to figure that out. Now things were seemingly fixed, and he could enjoy the little things in life once again, stress free. “Interesting. You think it’ll actually fly? Guess that’s the bonus of having magic though, you can fix it quickly if things aren’t working the right way.” Scorpius simultaneously asked and answered his own question. That was how his thought process had been working lately though. It seemed asking questions that were typically rather easy could be answered almost immediately by himself. The whole process of asking was what brought him to that point though, so he knew it was better to do it this way than not say anything at all. Except this one question that he needed to ask the professor, which had been plaguing him for so long.
Scorpius felt his semi-decent mood plummet as Longbottom said that the professor wasn’t there. Something about seeing his son, or going out in the sun. Letting out a sigh, Scorpius continued across the room, looking around it a couple of times. There didn’t seem to be any books out right now, which considering the content of his question, they could potentially have the answer he needed. “What was that?” He responded, not having heard Longbottom’s question immediately. “Oh, right. I guess it’s not that important really. I can always ask him after class next week at some point.” And suffer through a few more days of not knowing the answer. Heading back towards Jayden, Scorpius looked down at the progress that the boy had made so far on the kite. He had no idea what the final product was going to look like, but it seemed like it was getting close to it. “Yeah, I think I have the time. Professor might come back soon anyways.”

@scorp “Interesting. You think it’ll actually fly? Guess that’s the bonus of having magic though, you can fix it quickly if things aren’t working the right way.” he laughed a little when scorpius answered himself and he just shrugged his shoulders. the point, to him at least, was to make it with his own hands and not use magic on it if he could help it. "if it doesn't fly i'll just keep making more till it does." he said with a grin as he connected two parts of it together. scorpius seemed a little disappointed when he learned that the professor wasn't there but he didn't seem to want to divulge what he wanted to see him about which was fine with jay. he didn't think himself as a nosy person, just curious but he knew when to pry and when not to and now seemed like a good time not too. “Oh, right. I guess it’s not that important really. I can always ask him after class next week at some point.” he nodded slightly as he rested on his elbow, leaning forward slightly on it to glance at the instructions and he looked back at the kite. "sounds like a good plan." he said honestly as he changed something he'd done so it looked like the picture. “Yeah, I think I have the time. Professor might come back soon anyways.” jay nodded and reached to pat the only clear space of floor in the area around him, with a grin. it would be nice to have some company, he was a person who gravitated towards other people and quiet wasn't really something he enjoyed so having someone to talk to would go quite nice. "think he'll grade this instead of our homework for the next week if we finish it?"

@henry Jayden had an interesting way of going about things. Making more? As in sitting down, just like he was right now, and building more of these kite things? That definitely seemed a little unnecessary. Scorpius supposed that everyone was different though, and whereas the Gryffindor here preferred to make things by hand, Scorpius would have rather laid out numerous sets for kites and attempted to charm them all together at the same time. To him, that was more intellectually and magically stimulating. The ability to move multiple objects around at the same time had always been one of his greatest interests. Today, it didn’t seem like he was going to get the chance, specifically because Jayden wanted to do everything by hand.
Pieces of the kite were going together one by one though, and it was quite amazing that it was that easy. Scorpius liked the hands-on approach of puzzles, and he supposed this could be seen as one considering Longbottom said he had never made one before. He was sure he could find some kind of brain stimulation out of watching this go down, especially now that he wasn’t going to be able to get his answer from the professor. He laughed at the idea of getting a grade for the kite over a homework grade. That would be the dream. But at the same time, Scorpius liked doing his homework. That was one of those comments he kept to himself because it turned people off whenever he mentioned anything remotely similar in context. “Maybe. If you charm it to turn away dementors or something, you might not have to do work for the remainder of term.” What a sight that would be; kites stationed all around wizarding communities to keep those pesky happiness suckers from getting close. Scorpius had never seen one, considering that they weren’t stationed at Azkaban anymore. He figured that if they had been there still, his father would have shown him. “So what’s the plan with this kite? Fly it right now? I haven’t been outside yet, so I can’t tell you if it will be feasible…”

@scorp “Maybe. If you charm it to turn away dementors or something, you might not have to do work for the remainder of term.” he laughed and shook his head slightly, bouncing his leg slightly as he kept putting the parts together. he wasn't sure if he was over building this thing but he hoped it would at least fly for a few feet. "well i'll build it .. you charm it and we'll split the prize fifty fifty." he joked as he moved to sit up on his knees and he sat back slightly to observe the kite. "i think it's done." he said as he leaned forward on his hand to look at the picture on the page and then to the contraption he'd built and he nodded his head. "done."
“So what’s the plan with this kite? Fly it right now? I haven’t been outside yet, so I can’t tell you if it will be feasible…” jay grinned as he turned his head to scorpius and he reached to lift the kite up, having wound the string around the little handle that had come in the kit. it was a good idea, him being himself would have probably just wound the string around his hand for the kite to take off. "well that's what we use window's for?" he said with a grin as he pointed to it. there was no hint of teasing in his voice, just something he pointed out as he moved to stand up and he moved to brush the leftovers into a small pile with his foot. "i'll come back and clean this up."

@henry Scorpius knew Longbottom was joking about his charm idea for the kite, but it was definitely an interesting thought. Could items be set up to repel dark creatures? Not everyone could produce a patronus, himself included. It wasn’t because he didn’t have any happy memories; there were plenty of those throughout his life. He found that he simply couldn’t pick the happiest out of all of them. Lately though, it seemed like there were a few that were starting to rise to the top of that pile of happy memories. There was no need for him to be able to produce a patronus at this point in time anyways, and he knew all the proper wand motions and words for the spell, so he was sure he could call it forward whenever it was necessary. “I’ll take you up on that deal, if it’s actually possible,” Scorpius responded rather seriously to the matter. He really liked the idea the more he thought about it.
He was pulled out of his somewhat brilliant idea by Jayden’s mention that the kite was done. Scorpius really wanted to see this. Even the simplest of muggle pastimes always intrigued him. Sports were easier to follow than kite flying was, but they all had the same effect on him at the end. From his spot in the room, it looked like the kite matched up to what was on the instructions. Hopefully that meant that it could fly as well. “Suppose a window would work, wouldn’t it?” Scorpius nodded his head, moving towards the closest window and unlocking it. “If that doesn’t work, could always try the astronomy tower. Don’t think either of us could get in trouble for using it.”

@scorp “If that doesn’t work, could always try the astronomy tower. Don’t think either of us could get in trouble for using it.” jayden nodded his head and crossed to the open window and looked at it. he scratched his head while trying to work out the logistics of how they could fly this kite out of a window without using magic. "you know i saw in a muggle movie .. a few times .. when they flew kites they ran with them to get them into the air." he said as he rested the kite on the windowsill. "maybe we should try that first .. after all muggles know how to use them best right?" he said with a grin as he lifted the kite and walked toward the door. "if that doesn't work we can try the window or the astronomy tower." he said as he walked to the door, resting his hand on the handle waiting for scorp to follow him if he still wanted too.
