The death of Abigail Shacklebolt was a shocker even for Stephen. The girl had been a bit reckless, headstrong and stubborn but then again so was he. He found her more interesting than half of the trainee aurors and hitwizards anyway; at least she had had the gall to fight back when she disagreed with something. He wondered if anyone of her training class would pick up her mantle, from his observations she’d had friends in the same years as her, and perhaps they’d show more interesting personalities than a wooden board. One could only hope, he supposed.
Slightly exasperated, Stephen came into the office on a clear, cold February morning, his to go cup of tea in his right hand and a sheaf of papers in his left. Since the capture of the Muggle torturer, there had been a bit of a lull between major cases, but now the Head of Magical Law Enforcement, none other than Harry Potter, wanted their resources to be turned to finding Elaine Dupree. The girl was a sleuth, a cleverly sneaky witch, but everyone was found eventually. Stephen knew that the Aurors were out for blood after the death of one of their own, but he was curious if he could solve this mystery of Elaine himself, at least until another case came his way. He took a sip of his tea and began reading some reports when there was a knock on his door. “Enter,” he called shortly, wondering who would be disturbing him so close to the beginning of his work day.
