Hermione Granger stood in the center of the tent with the three Champions. She did not envy what they had to face today, going through the four arenas, each so different from the other. "Welcome Champions," she finally said, gesturing for them to gather around. "Today you'll be able to see just how much your magical creature has come to trust you over the past month. You'll be taking them through three arenas, each ones terrain and climate vastly different from the last. If you successfully get them through the three arenas, you'll arrive to their natural habitats. Your task is to get the jewel that's been hidden in their nests - let's hope that you've gained their trust." Clearing her throat, she turned to Elias Greyback, the Durmstrang champion. "Mr. Greyback, you're first. Please take your niffler and wait for the sound of the cannon. Good luck," she said, giving him a pat on his shoulder as she left the tent - she would be back once Elias had gotten through the arenas. A few minutes past, then she gave the signal. boom.

@hermionejean It was the day of the second task, and Elias had no idea what to expect. All he knew was that he had his Niffler, Halcyon. While Elias had been worried, he was also excited. There wasn't any concern about this task like there had been to the one prior; he was ready for this. If anything, he felt more ready than he'd ever be. Halcyon had been very friendly as of late with Elias and he had met with him every three or four days to get to know him more, bringing him a shiny item of sorts each time. Elias assumed this was the easiest way to get closer with Halcyon and the most obvious of ways to grow their relationship. He had become accustomed to seeing the little creature and was beginning to enjoy his company, so when he ended up at the tent and saw him, a smile was brought to his face.
The Minister of Magic stood in between the three Champions. Elias took a small glance at Emile - he wasn't paying attention to him nor Anna of course, typical. But he ended up smiling at Anna, knowing she was much more friendly than their Beauxbatons counterpart. Then Hermione Granger spoke again, and Elias quickly turned his eyes to the older woman to listen intently. As she described the task, Elias became slightly worried. Halcyon lived in burrows at least twenty feet underground, and the most concerning thing for Elias would most likely be snow. He couldn't imagine the poor Niffler would be able to get through that easily, but Elias knew he'd have to do everything to help his new friend.
Elias' eyes widened as the Minister turned to look at him and tell him he was first to go in. Blinking, Elias nodded, and forced a smile to the woman. "Thank you." She left the tent, and Elias walked over to Halcyon, smiling. "You ready, little guy?" His voice was gentle and quiet as he bent down to pick up the Niffler and put him on top of his shoulders. Thankfully Halcyon was smaller and easily transferable, and also sat contently on top of Elias. Turning to glance at the other two he gave a small nod. With a deep breath, and the boom of the canon, Elias walked into the first arena.

The arena is hot;not a muggy, damp sort of hot, but a dry, dehydrated sort of heat. The light is dazzling, almost blinding as a noontime sun, and there’s nothing but sand for what looks like miles, besides one or two cacti in the distance. The moment the Champion takes their first step into the arena, there is a gust of wind. It is not welcome, for it stirs up the sand, each of the coarse grains swirling gracefully in a cyclone. The heat will only intensify as the Champion walks further, and in the distance, a sand storm begins to form. Directly opposite of the start, there is a door that almost looks like a mirage, but it is this door that will take them to the second arena. Can they get through in one piece with their creature? We’ll have to wait and see!

As soon as Elias walked into the second arena, he was met with a rush of heat. It had him struggling to take another breath, and as he opened his eyes to look at where he resided, the wind blew and sand flew everywhere in a type of miniature tornado. Elias began to cough, holding Halcyon close to his chest and trying his best to cover the creature's face. The wind continued, the small grains of sand continuing to swirl and swirl around the two of them. He was already having troubles breathing with this heat, and now with the sand being thrown around, he sucked in quite a bit. It took a few minutes for the wind to die down, as did Elias' hacking. Halcyon was still in his arms, and Elias looked down at him with watery eyes - he was no longer coughing, however his throat was on fire. It was all scratched up now, and the dryness was the most agitating issue he currently had. Trying to suck in a breath of oxygen, Elias finally took a look around at the arena he had walked into. The only thing he could see for miles away was sand, nothing more, nothing less. He had never been in a desert before, and he was sure Halcyon hadn't either.
Elias brushed the fur on Halcyon's back, feeling bad for the little guy. Halcyon's own habitat was native to Britain; cold and damp. For him to know this, and having the evidence that even Halcyon's burrows underneath the ground were much cooler than where they were now, Elias knew he had to do something. He had begun to sweat the second he entered the arena, he couldn't imagine how much hotter the Niffler was with his thick, black furry coat. The sun was beating down on them, shining bright, and he silently thanked the world that there were no shiny items here for Halcyon to run away from him to try to grab. Knowing that was Halcyon's weakness, Elias had made sure to bring quite a few things that would attract him if necessary. Quickly becoming exhausted, Elias lifted his head back up to look straight ahead. Swallowing with difficulty, he squinted his eyes. There was something ahead that looked like a door, possibly a floating door, but he wasn't positive. He was still too far away and the heat was beginning to get to him.
The beads of sweat that had formed on his forehead were now dripping, down his face and onto his neck, a few drips falling onto the Niffler. Elias' long, wavy hair was dripping wet by now; as if he had taken a shower. Halcyon was getting hotter, and Elias felt a rush of guilt. Elias' breathing was erratic, but he pulled out his wand, and quietly spoke, pointing his wand at Halcyon, "Aguamenti." A silvery blue color gently shot out of the tip of his wand, and Elias moved his wand over the fur of Halcyon, wetting him to cool him down. Halcyon made a small noise of content, almost like a sigh. After the black coat was wet enough, Elias brought it over to the creature's mouth to give him some water to drink. The Niffler began licking it up, sucking it down as if it would be his last taste of water. If anything, Elias was hoping this would hold off Halcyon as much as possible. What he kept drilling into his own brain was that he had to get Halcyon out alive and safe, if anything happened to Elias, someone else would take care of him. Right now his biggest concern was the creature they entrusted him with and that was his main focus. But then, a small noise caught his attention, and Elias narrowed his eyes, slowly looking back towards where the door was. It looked like a wave at the beach, however it wasn't a wave of water, it was a wave of sand, and as worried as Elias got, he hid it. This wasn't something he'd be able to get out of easily, but he had to do it. Elias was halfway to the door, there wasn't anything that was going to stop him now.
As quickly as he could, Elias pointed his wand back at Halcyon. He spoke the incantation for the Bubble Head Charm just in time for the Niffler to be saved from the rush of sand that was just brought at the two of them. Unfortunately, Elias was thrown onto the ground, but he kept a tight grip on Halcyon. If he had let go of the Niffler, who knows where he would've gone. If anything he'd most likely try to burrow into the hot sand. Even though Elias had his mouth shut tight, teeth clenched, sand got everywhere. In his mouth, his ears, his eyes, his hair. It stuck to his face, the salt from his sweat luring it towards him even more. After what seemed like hours, the sand storm stopped. Elias did not move from the ground, however he did turn onto his side, only to get sick. The amount of sand he had ingested had turned his stomach enough for him to get rid of whatever he had in his stomach along with the granulated substance. Elias sat up slowly, the heat from the desert making him dizzy. The arena was spinning slightly, but he stood up anyways and finally cast the Bubble Head Charm on himself.
He continued to cough as he walked and walked, closer to the door. Halcyon seemed satisfied with the bubble as it was allowing him to breathe easier. "Almost there, Hal." The heat still affected his body, however Elias was almost there. The sun was getting hotter and hotter the closer he got to the door, and Elias tried moving Halcyon around in his arms so that he was covering his body as much as possible. Eyes red, and squinting together, the dark haired boy dragged his feet the last few steps to the door ahead of them. All Elias continued to picture was a stream, or a pool; anything with water that could cool him and his creature down. With his breathing irregular, and his body soaked with sweat and sand, Elias smiled down at Halcyon as he finally reached the door and twisted it open, the second arena awaiting their presence.

Upon entering their second arena, the Champions’ initial reaction would be to realize how mild the temperature feels, a pleasant turn from the first arena. The redwood trees soar high above them, and the needles that have fallen from their great height crunch underneath their feet. Growing used to the mild climate, it is soon apparent that there is no clear door to the third arena. The redwoods, varying by width and height seem to multiply right in front of their eyes. The door must be hidden within one of the redwood trees themselves, but which one? Everything looks the same, everywhere they turn, the trees begin to blend together to a point where they cannot decipher where they started. As they start forward, a wailing sound is heard; is that a forest troll they hear? Will they find the right tree and get out before getting hurt? Let’s watch and see!

Halcyon's bubble around his head popped, and Elias' eyes widened. The rush of fresh, and colder, air was so sudden and shocking that Elias took in a sharp breath. While it felt good on his throat, it also burned as his esophagus was still scratched up from all the dust and sand he had inhaled in the arena beforehand. Elias lifted up the Niffler in front of his face and tilted his head as he looked at him. The little guy looked happy, and Elias chuckled, smiling. Halcyon seemed quite carefree, which was a good sign to the Durmstrang Champion. "You're doing good, Hal. Only a few more, promise." Elias took a medium sized ring out of his pocket that he had gotten at a store in Hogsmeade and held it above the Niffler's head for him to grab it. Halcyon did immediately, and made a noise that resembled a giggle. The boy's face scrunched up in confusion, but he shook his head, enjoying the decent weather he had walked into. Taking a deep breath in through his nose, the smell of wood and nature was what Elias had been met with. His re-energizing was interrupted by the creature he held in his arms. Halcyon was crawling back up to his shoulder from his arm and Elias finally decided it was time to take a look around.
The first thing he noticed was that there wasn't really a lot to be seen. What he was stepping on was mostly dirt, with a few grass patches here and there. Though there was also plenty of needles underneath his feet, the crunching noise resembling a type of snapping of a pretzel. Elias lifted a hand to pet Halcyon gently as he listened keenly to the noises around him. It was almost as if he could hear cicadas among the branches, but no animals could be heard. That was more than unusual to him, and it worried him somewhat. Elias stood up taller, squinting his eyes. The redwood trees that surrounded him gave him no easy option to see anything; all that was seen was groves. The repeating of the redwoods was somewhat dazing, and it finally settled deep in Elias' stomach that he couldn't see a door. There was nothing to even visibly show him a door - you couldn't' see a single thing past the forest he was in.
Elias shivered. The abrupt change of temperature from the first arena to the second was enough to make him feel like he was running a fever. The sweat from his face was gone, but his wet hair was beginning to freeze, and Elias had a feeling he'd get sick if he didn't get to the door as soon as he could. Grabbing Halcyon from his shoulders, Elias held the creature underneath his left arm which also held his wand. With a small flick of his wrist, Elias conjured flames in his hand using the hand-held flames incantation. It was a spell he had learned the year previous and was quite helpful in a situation such as this. The fire was held in his hand, but would not burn him. It gave off slight heat which is exactly what the two of them needed. Their body temperatures needed to get back to normal slowly and not as quickly as they did. Elias grabbed his wand with his teeth and gave Halcyon a little squeeze, holding in his own warmth as the fire heated him up.
Walking from tree to tree, Elias began kicking them. They were rock solid, and he wasn't sure if there was anything special about them. If there were different passageways or animals that may erupt from them. However, so far, nothing. He couldn't tell exactly how he was supposed to find this door to the third arena. His eyes moved back and forth, looking at all the large trunks, turning in circles and moving quickly to each one. Elias felt like he had ran to the same tree three or more times, and he couldn't tell where he had come from anymore, or where he had to go. It was as if he was in the center of a room with mirrors on every wall, except now they were trees. He wasn't sure which was worse. Halcyon got his attention by nibbling on Elias' finger and he yelped. He realized how warm the creature was, and Elias put out the fire in his hands and allowed Halcyon to climb back up onto his shoulders. "Sorry, buddy. I'm trying to find this door, let me know if you see anything." Granted, Halcyon didn't speak, but Elias had no one else to talk to. Even so, who said the creature couldn't give him an idea?
The door would need to wait. As Elias was running from tree to tree, deeper into the redwood forest, loud banging made him stop short. The only noise he now heard was his shallow breathing, and what sounded like giant footsteps, getting closer and closer ... Elias slowly turned around entirely, and in between two trees in the distance he saw something large. It echoed a tree itself, wearing dark, ripped bottoms, and what seemed to be a large piece of bark on it's arm. It's feet were the size of Elias himself, and it had a large tail with green hair at the tuft. The troll's upper body was even larger, and he was a grotesque grey color. He had an incredible under bite, the yellow teeth coming out of it sharp and foul. The green hair it had was all over; starting at the spine and ending at the top of his head, on his forearms, and he even seemed to have a braided beard of this straggly vomit colored hair. The Bulgarian boy swallowed, and quietly spoke to Halcyon, slowly moving him underneath his arm and his jacket. "Don't you worry, Hal." He whispered.
Clenching his wand in his hand, Elias quickly ran behind one of the trees, his breathing instantaneously irregular. Only moving slightly out of the way of the tree, he pointed his wand at the troll. "Stupefy!" It only gave him a moment, but a moment was enough time to move to another tree. As he ran he heard those piercing footsteps once more, and he squatted down to the ground and looked towards the troll coming at him. "Impedimenta!" The troll's running slowed, and Elias couldn't help but grin. He knew this could get very dangerous, but he was having such a rush of excitement and energy of needing to save this friend he had made. Such a good friend that Halcyon bit Elias' hair and he let out a howl, glaring at the creature. Although, what Elias hadn't been expecting was for Halcyon to jump off of him and run over to a tree. A tree that was shinier than the others. It took Elias longer than it should have, as he was just nervous Halcyon was running away. But of course he'd see it! It was shiny. Unfortunately, Elias had taken his eyes off of the troll for too long, and he was suddenly being held up in the air, being swung around. Branches were slashing him everywhere, the sharp pain of the cuts residing mostly on his face. Yelling in pain, Elias reached into his pockets for his wand and pointed it at the troll for the last time. "Reducio!" As the troll shrunk to a puny size, Elias eventually fell onto the ground from a few feet, the wind being knocked out of him. He began coughing, his chest filling with pain. The boy was sure a rib was broken, but he couldn't worry about that right now.
"Reducto!" The poor, little troll blew up, small pieces of wood being thrown everywhere, and other pieces of him that Elias would rather not remember. Grabbing his chest and clenching the articles of clothing there, he hobbled as fast as he could over to Halcyon, forcing a smile. The Niffler climbed onto Elias' leg and on his arm, holding onto him tightly. He swiftly grabbed a necklace this time, much bigger than the ring and handed it over to Halcyon. "Thank you, Halcyon. Truly, thank you." Elias rolled his eyes with a drained breath and ran his hand over the shiniest tree in the forest, pushing it forward and into the next arena.

A frozen wasteland lies in front of the Champion as they enter their third and final arena with their creature. The ground is slippery, with just a fine powder of snow covering the ice that is miles deep. There are flurries in the air, but the snow never sticks to the surface; it is far too slick for that. As the Champion takes a step forward they slip, but not just because of the lack of grip on the surface. The glacier tilts dangerously to one side as they move; it is clear that with every step of the way the glacier will tilt, trying to send the Champion off the side and into the unknown abyss below. Trying to get across will be perilous enough; if they lose the grip of their creature and it falls they will be disqualified. Will they slide into their final arena, or into their doom? Stay tuned to find out!

His first step in, and Elias knew he was in for a treat. It wasn't just that these last two had been plenty difficult, but it was his final arena before Halcyon's home. The arena prior had been the calm before the storm, and Elias had prepared himself right before he pushed open that redwood. For what, he had no clue. He had been in an arena that was incredibly hot, and another that was decently mild, so all that was left was freezing cold. Halcyon's body temperature was back to normal, as was Elias', so he truly hoped that if it was some type of snowy arena, that he had some type of easy way out. The nerves were finally getting to him as he crossed from one arena to the next, and he made sure to hold onto Halcyon tightly. God Forbid anything in this arena was shiny or sparkly - he'd have no way of winning. That might have been petty for the judges to do however, so Elias had a good feeling his Niffler would stay by him.
The blast of cold wasn't the initial problem that Elias had. No, that wasn't his biggest worry at all anymore. What he was standing on was ice. It was so thick that he couldn't see anything below him. You could hear the cracking throughout this arena as the ice formed more and spread apart in the blazing sun. The glacier was spread among the entire arena, as if it was the only part of the ground. But Elias quickly learned that wasn't the case. His first step into the arena had him slipping, and not just because of the slickness of the iceberg beneath him. As Elias had stepped forward, the glacier tilted, threatening to drop him down into the bottomless bit below. He held Halcyon closely to him as he looked around, frozen where he stood. The snow was falling slowly, small flurries and flakes being blown around and only sticking to the ice for a few moments. The sun was warm enough that the snow was not sticking and forming piles, but it wasn't warm enough to keep Elias or Halcyon warm. If the ground wasn't ice, it may have kept them cozy for just a bit longer. Elias looked beyond the iceberg, trying to see if there was anything he could conjure, or anything he could use to help him get past this big ice block to that door. But all he saw were mountains; Mountains of all shapes and sizes, some black, some grey...but they all had one thing in common - They weren't going to help him any. He saw the snow that was sticking on them, and was curious as to why it was sticking farther up than it was down here. Small snowflakes rested on his hair, as well as on Halcyon's fur. The air smelled like frost, and just as he thought that, he felt his nose getting colder and colder. It was always the first thing that the boy noticed when they were cold, more specifically back at Durmstrang where this was typical weather.
He silently thanked the Ministry that this wasn't a timed task. Elias wasn't sure how he'd get out of here. His mind was running blank. No spells were coming to mind, no charms. He stared straight ahead, at the door that stood probably a few hundred feet away from him. Elias began blinking, feeling his heart in his throat. Taking a chance of running wouldn't work, he thought. Even if he ran like the speed of lightning, he'd still fall; him and Halcyon both. Elias looked down at his little friend and gave him a small squeeze and pet his fur, forcing a smile to act like he wasn't afraid. "Got any ideas, Hal? I know I don't." Groaning, he took a deep breath. He just wished that Halcyon was able to stay on him, like glue. Glue! That was it! Getting a bit more excited, Elias reached into his pocket to pull out his wand. He held Halcyon in his arms on his back, sort of like an infant, and rubbed his belly. "I hope you don't mind me doing this, Hal. But it's our only chance. And then we can get you back to your family, okay?" His voice was quiet and gentle, but enough for the little Niffler to sigh in content and shut his eyes. Smiling, Elias pointed his wand to the Niffler and cast the sticking charm on him. Halcyon immediately seemed to be clinging to Elias arm, though not out of his own accord. His hand gently pat the creature that was now stuck to him. "You're doing good, Hal. Here, take this." He used his dominant hand to take out a nice big watch, which he put in Halcyon's little pouch for him since he couldn't move. These guys would definitely be good pets, and Elias' bond with Halcyon was growing stronger with each arena. He really wanted to get him back to his family, and back to where he needed to be safe. Elias was in the same position as Halcyon; away from family with this stranger, and going through all of these different places with no one but the thing they give you. Elias got a creature, Halcyon got a human. Bringing him back to his parents was Elias' main goal, just as he wanted to do soon - get back to his mother and Maria.
Elias continued to pet his creature, hopefully keeping him as calm as possible so that he could figure out some way to get to the door. He twirled his wand in his hands, staring at it as he thought. It wasn't everyday that you had to cross something without walking, and that was probably the hardest part about this arena. His frustration was getting the better of him, so it was even harder to think straight if you were angry! Elias bit his lip, going through every new spell or charm or jinx he had learned throughout his seven years at his school, and couldn't think of one damn thing. He huffed, and shook his head. But he needed to figure something out soon, because his feet and fingers were beginning to go numb, and as long as he wasn't moving, they'd continue to get colder and colder. Then it finally came to him, what he needed to do. If he couldn't walk across the glacier, or run across it, the next best thing to do would be to fly across it. Grinning, he held his wand up into the air. "Accio broom!" Elias wasn't one to fly as a hobby or on a regular basis, but he had learned, and he enjoyed watching Quidditch. He was okay, but he was definitely good enough to fly straight and through a door. He wobbled slightly, waiting for the broom to come to him. Throwing his hands out to steady himself, his eyes widened, listening. Soon, a small swish was heard, and he glanced up to see a broom flying towards him at great speed. Elias' mouth dropped open in shock, and thankful that Halcyon was stuck to him, he immediately grabbed the broom and hopped on, twirling a bit before flying towards the door. He threw his hand up in a fist, "Yes!" He yelled loudly, excitement running through him. Elias used his wand to open the next door, and he went flying through, laughing loudly.

Finally! The Champion enters the home habitat of the niffler where its’ family anxiously awaits its’ return. A series of cool, damp twisting tunnels will take the Champion down deeper and deeper. The tunnel has many dead ends and wrong ways, but eventually, we hope, they’ll find their way to the nifflers nest, where the red jewel lies for the Champions taking; with this gem the door will open to leave the arena for good. Has the Champion gained the trust of their niffler enough to take the jewel without sustaining any permanent injuries? Stay tuned to find out!

As soon as he flew into his final arena, the broom fell out of his hand and he fell to the ground, Halcyon still stuck to his body. Elias coughed loudly as a cloud of dust and sand erupted from the ground, clouding his vision for a few moments. He knew where he was now; Halcyon's home arena. If honesty was truly the best policy, Elias would say he was most worried about entering the Niffler's nest. There wasn't any way to tell if Halcyon trusted him truly. Trusted him enough to take this beautiful red jewel away from him and his family. While it had been placed there and hadn't always been there, he was sure that it was beginning to mean something to them. For the fact that it was shiny itself was enough to worry Elias. His fear was making him shake, enough to stagger his breathing but he couldn't let this overcome his emotions. Fear would ruin his chances of getting that jewel and he couldn't allow that to happen. Elias needed to be strong and he needed to be confident in himself. Otherwise this wouldn't end well.
The cloud of dust finally cleared as did his thoughts, and he realized he was still lying on the ground. Halcyon was still stuck to him, and Elias grabbed his wand, giving it a small wave to unstick the Niffler. Elias stayed on the ground, only for a few moments but enough to place the Niffler on his chest and pet him for a few moments. "We're finally here, Halcyon. No more freezing weather, no more terrible hot weather, just your nice cool home and all your little tunnels to walk through." Grinning at the black creature in front of him, Elias began rubbing his back and giving him scratches behind his ears. "Az nyama da te zabravya, Hal." The Durmstrang spoke to the little guy in Bulgarian, knowing quite well this may be the last time he ever saw this Niffler. He didn't expect to take him home, or for the school to keep him around. But throughout this task, Elias noticed how much he cared for the creature, and his emotions were growing stronger for him. While Elias had never really had any animals as a child or even now, Halcyon was beginning to change his mind on owning a creature, more specifically a Niffler. They were creatures that enjoyed shiny items which could be dangerous, but Elias didn't think finding those objects would be all too difficult. Hal looked like he was getting too comfortable, almost enough to fall asleep, and Elias chuckled. "Oh no no, Hal. Let's go! We've got to find your family!"
Elias stood up, holding Halcyon in his arms, continuing to scratch behind his ears. The Niffler twisted around so that he was belly up, and the Bulgarian laughed, rubbing his small black belly. "Spoiled." Finally taking a look around, he saw holes in the walls and had sudden memories of the maze in the first task. Shock ran through his body, almost like he was back in the maze, the terror paralyzing his body for a moment. The rubbing of Hal's belly stopped, his breath caught in his throat, and Elias stared into the dark tunnel. His heart was racing almost a mile a minute, and the only thing that jolted him out of this fear was Halcyon's warm lick to his jaw. While his body didn't move, his eyes did, and they looked down at the Niffler. If possible, he looked quite concerned for Elias. "I'm okay, Hal. Let's get you home to your family." Taking a deep breath through his nose, Elias pushed forward, knowing fully well what was important was Halcyon.
There were three tunnels available to begin, and he went to the center. They were darker, so he pulled out his wand. "Lumos." The tip of his wand lit up, illuminating off the dirt walls and their dark faces. Coming to a wall, he had the option to go left or right. One hand had his wand, the other had Halcyon, who was now asleep. The darkness felt like it was engulfing Elias, ready to push him into the wall and never let him go. He wasn't afraid of the dark, but having darkness surround him without being able to see anything was scaring him more than anything. He could turn and anything could be there at any moment. Swallowing nervously, he wiped his eyes, getting some of the dirt off so it didn't go into his eyes and make them burn. Eyesight would be essential for this moment in time and Elias couldn't risk not having it. Going left, he walked for what seemed like miles. It just kept going and going, no turns or anything. And then as if they were teasing him, he stopped at a dead end. The seventeen year old ground his teeth together, clenching his jaw and trying to calm his anger. This entire guessing game was angering him and he was dreading being in this arena for hours. Thankfully it was cool and not hot, so he wouldn't have any issue with his body temperature. However there was still always the chance of something dangerous being in here.
Turning as quickly as he could, he began walking back down the mile long tunnel. Which, it eventually turned longer as he was now taking the right turn he should've chosen in the beginning. And then he came to a larger area, not the nest, but one that had what looked like almost ten other tunnels. If he had been angry before, you probably wouldn't want to see him now. Elias shut his eyes tightly, breathing deeply to attempt to calm himself. Within what seemed like hours on end, he had gone through four different tunnels, each ending up at a dead end or some type of bedroom for Nifflers with thick mounds of dirt. Ending up back at the large room, he looked down at Halcyon with a sad smile. Unfortunately, Elias ended up waking up Hal by scratching the top of his head. "Hal, I need your help." His voice was gentle and quiet, but that could be from all the walking he had been doing. His legs hurt, his feet were in the largest amount of pain and he was sure he was forming blisters on his ankles. His throat was parched and Elias was feeling very dehydrated. What he needed was a bath and a large water, and he was sure Hal needed the same thing. Elias set Halcyon down on the ground and smiled at him, his exhaustion apparent. "Where's your family, Hal? Which tunnel? Can you bring me to them?"
Halcyon looked at Elias, looking quite angered to be woken up from his nap, but surely wanting his family back as well. The black creature turned and took the fourth path in, and Elias had so much trust in Halcyon that he followed him. It was longer, much longer, then that left turn he had taken hours ago. Elias hobbled behind him, stopping a few times to cough. His eyes were heavy, almost enough to want to fall asleep on the cold ground, but every time he felt like he was going to pass out, he shook his head back and forth. "You're doing good, Halcyon! We're almost there." Elias voice cracked, and he swallowed his dry saliva painfully.
Eventually, he hadn't realized they had entered the nest. It took awhile to get to the center, but there were other Nifflers popping up and looking at him as he walked through, studying the strange animal that came through with their family member. Halcyon just continued, and eventually ran over to what Elias assumed was his parents. A smile showed, and his exhaustion seemed to disappear as soon as he saw that small sparkle of red. Elias waved, looking around the large nest, seeing thousands and thousands of Hal's staring at him. It was actually quite nerve wracking, almost as if they were all about to attack him with one wrong move. Fear suddenly sank in the pit of his stomach, but Elias knew he could do this. He sat down on the ground and waited a few moments for the Nifflers to become reacquainted with one another. It was a sweet homecoming, and Elias knew how long Halcyon had been away from his family. He probably wanted nothing more to do with Elias, but he needed this jewel. He needed to get it.
Every few moments, Elias would scoot closer and closer. After he was maybe a foot away from Halcyon and his family, and maybe two feet away from this jewel on top of a rock, they all glared deeply at him. Elias' eyes widened, his breathing quickening. It would be a very bad idea to grab his wand; that was common sense to him. But he gripped the ends of his pants tightly, allowing his fear to somewhat be relieved by that action. "Hello...I-I need that jewel." He shakily pointed to the red sparkling item, and as soon as he did, two of the Nifflers jumped on top of him, pulling his hair and scratching him. Elias didn't know what to do - he couldn't hurt them, or Halcyon would lose all of the trust he worked so hard to get. So instead, he turned into the fetal position until they backed off. Elias tasted blood on his lips, and knew that what he said or what he did was not the best thing. Slowly sitting up, still protecting his face, his eyes met with Halcyon's. Elias had one idea, and hoped desperately it would work. Hal now had the jewel in his hand, and Elias looked at him desperately, a small tear falling from his cheek. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a long, gold locket. It had a red and gold owl on the end, with a bright diamond in the center. Elias had received it when he had been chosen as the Champion. It meant a lot to him, it truly did. But he thought it may mean more to Halcyon, and he held it out in his hand. "To remember me, Halcyon. For the jewel." He nodded at the red item, smiling at the Niffler.

The nifflers sniffed the replacement Elias Greyback offered them, then with just a slight hesitation snatched it away and handed him the red gem! Hermione was waiting for the Durmstrang as he left the arena; she had noticed he had formed quite the bond with the niffler, and he was likely sad to see him go. "Well done Mr. Greyback, going first is never easy," she told him with an encouraging smile. "Over there you'll find the judges' tables, and in that gold tent next to them our school nurse is waiting if you need any kind of medical attention. Then you may head back to the ship to wash up," she instructed as she pointed. FINAL ARENA SCORE: 8 TOTAL SECOND TASK SCORE: 40 @jill6 , feel free to post a reactionary, no word count post and then YOURE DONE

It felt like ages, staring at Halcyon, at the item in his hand, and the red jewel in the Niffler's hand. Time seemed to drag on, and Elias was beginning to sweat. Everything was finally settling in his stomach, realizing how close he was to getting the jewel and back out to the center of the tents. It was as if he could hear Halcyon thinking, and like all the thoughts of the other Niffler's were just being screamed throughout the tunnel. In reality, Elias was only waiting for a few moments. Halcyon didn't take long to make his decision, and almost as quickly as Elias held out the item, it was sniffed by Hal, and switched for the jewel.
Elias jumped, sucking in a quick breath of air, and immediately shut his hand around the red jewel in his hand. He brought it close to him, the shock setting in. He had done it. He got the jewel, he got through every arena, and Halcyon was home safe and sound with his family. Elias let out the breath and let his head hang backwards, shutting his eyes to calm his heartbeat. The stress slowly left his body, but unfortunately left a raging headache. He needed a jug of water, a hot bath, and a nap. Swallowing, his throat dry, he smiled to Halcyon and stood up, giving his new friend a wave. "Thank you, Hal."
Walking out of the arena, the sunshine blinded his eyes. He held up his hand to block the view, and attempt to see what was in front of him. The Minister was the first person he saw, and she began speaking to him. Elias handed over the jewel with a gentle smile and nodded. "Thank you, Minister." As he went and sat by the nurses tent to get a few scratches and cuts cleaned up and a goblet of cold water and pain medicine, he watched the judge table. The other two were still in their arenas, he assumed Anna was still inside and Emile had followed suit. But what he was concerned with now was his score...40. So he lost ten points. He sighed, shaking his head to himself. He was truly glad he had gotten out of the arenas, but if the other two did better than him, his winning this tournament wasn't looking so good.
