It had been more than a month since Theodosia had slipped a poison in Maria's goblet at breakfast, and the Slytherin had been watching the Durmstrang girl from a distance ever since that point. She had been considering bringing Maria flowers for Valentine's Day, to appear to be a little lovesick with the older girl, but she hadn't ever seen the Durmstrang girl on said day, so Theodosia hadn't bothered. Now that they were several weeks removed from the incident, though, Theodosia wanted to check back in, and see how Maria had handled the whole thing. Theo hadn't seen that she was all that abnormal in their first conversation (other than flirting a bit more aggressively than was normal), and she wondered if the fear potion had knocked a few screws loose in a more permanent manner or not. Theodosia was once again searching the Great Hall for Maria, hoping that her strange, angry-looking shadow wasn't around. It was so exhausting to try to flirt with someone subtly when they were around others - and if the GSA meeting was anything to go by, the person she always saw Maria with was more than just a friend. In any case, Theo spotted the Durmstrang girl and waved at her from across the room, beaming widely at Maria as she made her way through the crowd towards the other girl.

A month had passed since the... incident and Maria felt more like herself. At least when she was awake. At night was a completely different story. She still has nightmares. But to the world she was fine. And she intended to keep it that way.
It was lunch and for once Maria was eating alone. She wasn't sure wher Elias or Viola was.. But if she had to guess she'd say the library for Elias and one of those Hogwarts clubs for Viola. Maria didn't know how many clubs Viola had gotten involved with, but Maria personally didn't care. Clubs bored her.
She hadn't taken a seat yet though. Instead Maria was distracted by the sight of someone waving to get her attention. Maria's head tilted just a little as she watched that dark Slytherin approach. The girl from a few weeks ago. Had she been told the girl's name before? If she had, it was currently escaping her. But the prospect of a cute thing like her was too good to pass up. So Maria downed her most charming smile, the one laced with Veela charm to draw people on. "Its been a while." Maria smoothly said when the girl was close enough as way of greeting.

There were some small blessings in life, and one of those blessings was the fact that Maria did not try to get away from Theodosia. If anything, the part-Veela seemed to be welcoming her in, which the Slytherin took as a good sign. She knew it was silly to worry at this point, but Theodosia still had a fear that someone was going to figure out that she was the one to poison Maria. Paranoia wasn’t a good look on Theo, but it kept her from making stupid mistakes, like bragging about her accomplishment to anyone other than Zaire. Even the other Purifiers weren’t safe – one had been a traitor, so who was she to say that more couldn’t gab?
Enough about the past, though. Theodosia was looking forward to the present. Maria said that it had been a while, and Theodosia let out a girlish giggle. “Much too long, darling.” Theodosia said, batting her eyelashes. “I wasn’t sure if you wanted to see me, though.” Theo said, casting her eyes downwards in an attempt to look shy or otherwise unsure about her relationship with Maria. She was certain that the part-Veela would say just about anything to get into her bed, so Theo wasn’t all that worried about laying the innocent charm on too thick.

The little Slytherin girl's act of innocent awe was coming on pretty thick. Thick enough that Maria could see through it. But she didn't actually care. Why would she care what someone's motives were? As long as their interest was her, who cared about anything more? "I always want to see pretty little things like you." sure, Maria wasn't a giant but she was definitely taller then most of her partners, even Viola. But Maria liked to think she was gracefully tall.
"Come, join me for lunch?" Viola was busy, and Maria was bored. So why pass up some pleasant company? She wasn't going to take no for an answer though because she reached out and caught Theodosia'a hand with her own, intentionally entwining their fingers and she pulled the girl to a few few spots at the end of a table.

The hairs on the back of Theodosia’s neck raised a little bit at being called a ‘little thing’. She appreciated the pretty part, but being reminded that she was younger and shorter than most of the people in her social circles was a little tiresome. Theodosia didn’t let her smile falter at all at the comment, instead brightening a notch at the compliment. Anything to keep Maria from being suspicious about Theodosia’s intentions in waving at her, and flirting with her. For a moment, Theo felt self-conscious, wondering if anyone was watching her interact with the Veela. That wouldn’t be good for her fragile guise of heterosexuality.
When asked to join Maria for lunch, Theo nodded enthusiastically, squeezing Maria’s hand reflexively when their fingers laced together. Theo gladly sat down next to the part-Veela, surveying the breakfast before her and trying desperately to think of an interesting conversation starter. “Where’s your shadow?” Not the best way to start a conversation that was supposed to be flirty, but it would do.

Maria smiled far to charmingly for her own good as they took the seats. Maria slowly, very slowly untangled her fingers from Theodosia's and brought her hand back to herself, intentionally the very tips of her fingers brush against Theodosia's thigh. If it'd been anyone else it would have been brushed off as an innocent accident. But Maria didn't make mistakes like that.
Rather than fill a plate Maria braced and elbow on the table and rested her chin in the palm, head tilted to Theodosia. "What shadow?" Maria answered, her eyebrows raising high in confusion.... until she realized who Theodosia was talking about. "Oh! Viola? Who knows. They're my partner, not my keeper." She lazily waved her hand, as if to brush off the topic of her official romantic partner. Definitely not a great topic when you were trying to seduce someone. "Do you really want to talk about them? I'd rather learn more about you." she gave Theodosia another Veela charm laced smile.

This was an entirely new, foreign experience. Theodosia had never before met another girl who was so open about flirting with partners of the same sex. She had also never met another girl who was comfortable flirting with her, given her reputation for being... less than nice. Maria's fingers brushing against her thighs was an interesting, electric sensation. The only one who had come close to eliciting that sort of reaction from Theo was the Hufflepuff girl she had been following around lately, and even that paled in comparison to the thrill of sitting next to Maria. Maria was the sun, and the Hufflepuff no more than a distant star that couldn't light so much as the smallest twinkle in Theodosia's eye.
Maria brushed off Theo's question about their shadow - who was apparently their partner - and something warm blossomed in the Slytherin's stomach. Maria didn't want her partner. She wanted Theodosia. "No, let's not talk about them." Theo agreed readily, not realizing that it was the pull of Veela charm that was warming her neck and face in a soft blush at the idea of Maria with being with anyone else. "What do you want to know?" The Slytherin asked eagerly.

Over the years Maria had gotten quite good at telling when people were, and weren't feeling the affects of her Veela blood. It also helped that being half Veela made her charm far more potent then all the other part Veelas she'd met over the years. Most of then with a quarter or less. So, when Maria saw the charm start to set in? She just kept smiling, not bothering to tone it down at all. Maria didn't actually know how to explain how Veela charm worked. It was more like... when she wanted to use it it just happened. Just as natural as creating fire.
Yes, Viola was there in the back of her mind. She knew they didn't like her having multiple partners but they didn't stop her. Her and Viola's relationship was about as difficult to explain as her using Veela charm. But if she had to explain it... it was more then just physical. Meanwhile that was all her other relationships really were. And while Theodosia was in front of her... well, it was easy to forget that Viola might not approve.
Maria's smile widened at those eager words, of what she'd like to know. "Anything you want. Besides your name, I don't know anything about you, Theodosia." Maria intentionally let her accent come out when Theo's name rolled off her tongue. Her real Brazilian accent. It was sometimes hard to hear when she spoke English because she'd spent so much time in Sweden, but she could get it to come out when she wanted.

Maria said that Theodosia could tell her anything that she wanted, and the younger girl’s mind began to whirl. There was so little about her that was interesting, let alone interesting to Maria. She barely even deserved to be breathing the same air as the part-Veela, let alone get to tell her about her life! Theodosia closed her eyes to try to gather her thoughts, and her mind became a little less frantic, and a lot less foggy, when she was no longer looking at Maria and couldn’t feel the pull of the Veela charm as strongly. There was still a tugging, though, right underneath her heart, like something in Maria was calling to something in her. Not looking at Maria suppressed the tug, but didn’t make it disappear, and it wasn’t like Theodosia could walk away with her eyes closed – even if she wanted to walk away. Theo opened her eyes again, and was immediately drawn back into the allure of Maria. “I’m a Slytherin.” She said, voice slightly less breathless than it had been but nowhere near its normal sneer or smirk. “Fifth year.” Theo continued, though she doubted her age was a deal breaker for someone like Maria. “And I like girls.” The words were enough to jerk Theodosia out of whatever trance she had been in. She gasped in a breath as if she had just been drowning. “I mean – I like you.” There was no going back from that, though, and Theodosia glanced around, praying that no one else had heard what she had said.

Maria smirked as the girl's eyes closed, as if trying to decide what she should say. Maria had experienced a similar encounter not to long ago, with a hufflepuff girl. It was refreshing to see people actually become flustered and struggle to come up with something worth sharing. Quite often people made up fantastic lies about themselves, as if to impress her. When Theodosia finally spoke it was the obvious. A Slytherin. Fifth year. Neither really meant anything to Maria. Nor would they stop her pursuit. When Theo said she liked girls though, followed by that extremely quick correction Maria's eyebrows rose. It almost sounded, and looked considering how Theo was now acting, that she didn't want to admit that. "You sound like you don't want to like either." she softly noted, as if urging Theodosia to elaborate.

Theodosia gave a mirthless laugh when Maria said that the Slytherin didn’t seem to want to like either girls or Maria. There were some things that Veela charm couldn’t take away, and the fact that she had a reputation to uphold crashed back over Theodosia at Maria’s words. “I’m already promised to be married to someone else.” Theodosia said, the charm slowly beginning to seep out of her as reality continued to beat at her like waves against the shore. “My parents would disown me, and possibly kill me, if they learned I was willing to give them up.” Disownment was inevitable, but Theodosia honestly wasn’t sure whether or not her parents would go so far as murder. No one would know it was them if it ever did happen, but in any case, giving up money, power, her family, and her future for a girl, even a pretty one, was becoming a less and less appealing option. Theodosia wished that Maria had asked any other question, because then she could have continued floating along in charmed bliss, instead of thinking about everything that she had to lose.

Theodosia had broken free of the Veela charm. Her body language, the sound of that laugh, it was obviously. The admittance before had snapped her out of it. Immediately Maria felt a pang of annoyance. She always hated when people broke free. None the less though, Theodosia wasn't running away, so it wasn't a total loss the girl's remained presence made her feel like there was still a chance.
An arranged marriage. And parents that would do anything to enforce it. Sounded all to familiar to Maria. Maria was, quite literally, in the exact same situation. Though her's were her grandparents. And they'd yet to find a suitor willing to take on Maria. So hers wasn't quite 'arranged' yet, but they were determined. Maria picked up a goblet from the table and took a long sip, not saying a word for several moments. Only once she set the goblet back on the table did she speak again. "I didn't take you for the obedient type, Theodosia." She said slowly as she ran her fingers through her hair. "A trait I'd hoped we'd share in common, among others." She wouldn't flat out say that she understood exactly how it was to be forced into a marriage by one's guardians, but she wouldn't deny it if Theodosia guessed. After all, with all Maria knew about Theodosia what else could she mean by having things in common?

The entire world looked so different now that she had ripped through the gossamer fabric that was the Veela charm. Things didn’t sparkle so much, and Maria didn’t look nearly as beautiful. She wasn’t shining… she was just another person who was trying to manipulate Theodosia to get her way. Theo was used to that – you had to be, when you were in Slytherin – but this time it made her inordinately angry. At least when other people manipulated her, they did it for good reasons. What was Maria doing, other than trying to get Theo to crawl into her bed? “What do I gain from disobedience?” Theodosia challenged. “Don’t babble to me about love and defying fate. Why would I want love when I could have power?” Being with the person she loved didn’t mean anything to Theodosia if she couldn’t do anything. Love without power was pointless, but power without love? It was still powerful. And that was what keeping to her parents’ rules and upholding the family legacy would give her. The comment about the other things they had in common fell on deaf ears. Theodosia couldn’t have sex with anyone, let alone care for anyone, who didn’t think that power was the most important thing in the world. Maybe that made her small-minded, but Theo just thought that it made her smart.

Oooh, snippy little snake, wasn't she? Maria smirked and turned her whole body on the bench to fully face Theodosia. "Obedience doesn't give you power. All it does is make you a cute and obedient pet." Maria reached out a hand to try and catch a lock of Theodosia's dark hair and twirl or delicately between her fingers. "Who said anything about love? Power isn't about loving or being loved. It's finding something you want and being able to take it." Maria's voice was low, so only Theodosia would hear and her gaze intense as she met Theo's own eyes. It was the look of someone who saw something they wanted.
Maria leaned away, dropping that lock of hair of Theodosia's. "If you want power, you should be thinking more about what you want rather then what other people want." Turning forward again she reached out and took another sip from her goblet before musing thoughtfully. "For someone who wants power you're awfully quick to give yours away."

Theodosia glared at Maria when the other girl said that obedience didn’t give her power. Maybe not in the short term, it didn’t, but in the long term? She would be crushing the people like Maria, who were short-sighted, underneath the heels of her shoes. She stood to inherit her family’s fortune, and the social standing that came with it, the moment her parents died. Theodosia hadn’t yet considered a plot to make that reality happen sooner rather than later, but was she above patricide? Most definitely not. She was the apple of her father’s eye, but she’d rather be the apple of her own eye. “I can take what I want.” Theodosia snapped. “Maybe it just hasn’t sunk in yet that not everyone wants you.” From the way Maria acted, it seemed the only thing she wanted was for others to want her. Theodosia wanted her, too, but the natural reflex to being told that she wasn’t good enough was to lob an insult right back, and that was the best Theo could come up with on such short notice. “Not everyone has to do things your way, Maria.” Theodosia continued coolly. A part of her wanted to rub in Maria’s face just how much power she already did have, by mentioning the poison, but the Slytherin knew that was a horrible idea. So she just kept glaring at the other girl, daring Maria to try to tell her again how to live her life.
