Hugo laughed when Xan screeched and then laughed harder when her laughter joined his. It was just too perfect! He didn't imagine that his plan would go so well, but at the same time he was so glad that it did. Besides that, he loved hearing the sound of her laughing. Even though he visited her often when she was sick, there wasn't normally a lot of laughter involved, even with Hugo trying to keep her spirits up. Hospital Wings weren't the best places to make jokes, after all. He nodded at her suggestion, reaching to dip his hand in the red paint as she did the same with the blue. He looked up to see her waiting for him and couldn't help but smirk at her. "On three then?" he teased, quirking an eyebrow at his girlfriend. He decided to continue the ruse. "One ... two ... three!" He carefully pressed his hand to the paper, expecting her to do it with him, but not waiting at the same time. Once he peeled his hand off, he stood up and took a few steps backward. "How does it look now?" he asked curiously.

Xan wrinkled her nose when Hugo asked her if she wanted to do their signatures on three. Waiting for him was the polite thing to do, and he knew it! She waited for her boyfriend to count down so that they could put their signatures down at the same time, and Xan placed her hand firmly on the canvas when the countdown was done. After she was sure enough paint had been applied, she removed her hand, lifting it straight up so that she wouldn’t accidentally smudge anything. Hugo took a few steps backwards, and Xan did too. She grabbed onto his arm, spreading the remainder of the blue paint that had been on her hand on his arm with a cheeky grin. “It looks much better.” She said, not breaking eye contact with him for a long second. When Xan looked back at the painting, she chuckled again. “There’s no way that anyone is ever going to believe that you’re the blue hand.” She said. Xan hadn’t realized how much bigger Hugo’s hand was than hers, but seeing them in painting made it pretty obvious. “We can leave it in the room to dry, I think.” Xan said. No one else would be able to get into the art section of the Room of Requirement unless they were thinking specifically about art supplies, and hopefully anyone who would do that wouldn’t ruin someone else’s painting out of spite.

He felt her grab his arm and made a face at Xan when he realized that she was wiping extra paint all over his arm. He met her gaze, shaking his head at her, "I should've expected that," he whispered after a few seconds. He thought about retaliating. He laughed at her comment about their hand prints. "What, I totally think the blue hand is mine!" Hugo said sarcastically, laughing as he did so. He nodded at her suggestion. "I think it'll be fine. Do we want to hang it up or something to make sure that if anyone comes in, they won't walk on it?" After all, they could levitate it, which should mean that it wouldn't get ripped. "And then let's get down and go eat some food," he suggested as his stomach started to rumble.
@xanthippe (you wanna end it?)

Xan smiled at Hugo when he said that he should have expected her paint attack. “Yes, yes you should have.” She said, not even bothering to deny it, because it was the truth. Hu said that he thought the blue hand was his, and Xan rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t make me put more paint on you.” She half-threatened, half-teased. Xan appreciated that Hugo agreed that the painting would be fine drying in the room. Even if she had a solid logic behind that belief, the emotional side of her was always a little worried about leaving a painting unattended – it was, after all, kind of like her child. “Let’s leave it flat. I don’t want any of the paint to drip.” She didn’t think that was going to be a problem, but Xan would be even more disappointed if her painting got ruined because gravity smeared the paint. “Snack time it is!” Xan agreed. They probably needed to wash up first, but oh well. Xan took her boyfriend’s hand with a smile, and with one last look over her shoulder, left the Room of Requirement for their next big adventure.
