How was Maria bored already? For some reason lately she'd just been so.... so bored. All the time. And it was slowly driving Maria mad. Nothing was holding her attention long. Sure there were a couple good distractions but they never lasted long. Even Adonia. Usually her rendezvous with her friend could keep her satisfied for a few days or more. But not anymore. It seemed as if the moment she stopped doing something so did all the satisfaction or interest.
Even now, Maria was bored as she lay on her back near the pond. The winter frost had melted and the weather was far to nice to stay indoors. Despite her intense boredom she felt no desire to seek out a distraction because everything she did come up with seemed just as uninteresting as laying here. Why move when there was nothing worth doing?
Her boredom was so intense that she almost didn't look when she heard foot steps approach. Maybe it was some optimistic hope that something worthwhile was coming that did get her to tilt her head to the side to stare st the approaching figure. it was in that moment that Maria realized there was actually one thing that didn't bore her... And they were walking her way now.

Viola didn’t find much of Hogwarts interesting. It was just a castle, after all, and once you’d seen one castle, you’d seen them all, as far as Viola was concerned. People kept blathering on about secret passages, but what was the point in discovering some secret passage two months before you were going to leave the school? It was like they would ever be able to use it, especially since they didn’t actually need shortcuts to get to different areas of the castle, nor did they have a reason to leave Hogwarts’ grounds. Therefore, when Viola was bored, they normally stayed in the Durmstrang ship or wandered around the grounds. The ship was too loud for their tastes – someone was screaming about their boyfriend breaking up with them, how utterly annoying – so Viola was walking around the grounds in a figure-eight circuit. When they passed by the pond, though, Viola saw a reason to pause their walk. Maria was laying out on the grass beside the pond – sunbathing? Viola didn’t know what on earth she was doing, but that was typical for Maria. They approached quickly, and then sat on the ground beside Maria with an almighty sigh. “Hey, stranger.” Viola greeted, their lips quirking upwards into a smile.

For some reason Viola just made Maria want to smile. Whenever they were around. It was an odd feeling. Smile, and feel perfectly content. As if she didn't need anyone else. That was a very foreign and almost uncomfortable feeling for her. But, regardless when Viola sat down on the grass next to her Maria immediately rolled over onto her side, closer to her partner and dropping her arm casually across Viola's waist. She was a very physical person, after all. Any sort of contact was amazing for her. That, and people knew she was interested when she was so willing to make contact. "Hey." She answered back casually and warmly, a soft smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Where have you been hiding all day?"

Viola gave Maria a bemused grin when their girlfriend immediately rolled over so that she could be touching them. Sometimes Viola wondered if they would ever be able to have a conversation with Maria that didn’t involve a touch – whether it be them holding hands or pressing their legs together or having their arms around each other, the way Maria had her arm around them now. Maria smiled at them, and Viola cocked their head slightly. Every time Maria smiled Viola felt it was like the first time, no matter how hard they tried to study what made their girlfriend’s smile so… different. The easy answer was that Maria’s Veela charm gave the smile an extra layer of attraction, but Viola knew that wasn’t it. They would just have to keep studying, they decided. “What makes you think I’d want to hide from you?” Viola asked, interested in Maria’s choice of words. “If you must know, I was trying to research careers before I started walking on the grounds.” Their research had consisted of jotting down a few job titles they heard while walking, but it sounded better than just walking aimlessly, so Viola went with the half-truth.

Maria let out a content little sigh, and closed her eyes. For all purposes she looked (and was) completely relaxed. Laying there on the grass with an arm draped over her partner's lap. She could have easily fallen asleep like that. So odd... Normally Maria didn't 'sleep' with others. Not in the actual definition of the word. She messed around with them, yes. But very few did she actually 'sleep' with. Viola was one of those few Maria could bring herself to sleep close to, for a number of reasons. Some she could logically and easily explain while others... Others she was still trying to understand herself. "I didn't say you were hiding from me. Just hiding." She mumbled back, not bothering to move or even open her eyes as she spoke.
What did manage to get Maria to open at least one eye though was Viola saying they had been researching careers. It was that time of year. When all of them really settled down to decide what they wanted to do after graduation. "Have you decided yet?" She asked curiously. it was, after all, a pretty big decision.

Viola smiled down at Maria when their girlfriend said that she hadn’t meant to imply Viola was hiding from anyone. “I thought I was the one who was supposed to be obsessed with semantics.” They teased, since Maria’s whole sentence had basically been about the difference that the word ‘from’ made in her previous words.
“Nope, not really.” They said with a shrug. It wasn’t too big of a deal, but Viola did have to admit they were a little worried they would never find a job that suited them. “My dad decided that he and Pem are going to be moving here, though, so I have a little while. I can live with them and everything if I really can’t decide.” Of course, the goal would be not to have to live with their father much longer, but somehow Viola doubted that bringing up the idea of cohabitating to Maria would go over well, because that would mean commitment. Maria had already proven that wasn’t really her strongest suit. “I was thinking maybe the Ministry, but there’s so many departments…” Plus, Viola had never been much good with rules, so working for the people who made up the rules didn’t seem like their best fit. Then again, nothing did.

Maria smirked a little from her position one the grass, and turnes just a little, so she could open an eye a look up at Viola. "Well, im obsessed with you, and anything you're obsessed with." Maria didn't fully understand just how true that statement was. And when she did fully understand that? She'd probably freak a little...
Though Maria sat up a little, propping herself up on her 'free' arm (at least the one not laying across Viola's waist). "Is that a good thing?" she asked. She knew how well Viola felt about their mother, but she wasn't to sure about Viola's relationship with their father and younger sibling. As for the ministry... "You've decided to stay at least." Quite a few of the Durmstrang students were staying as far as Maria knew. She was planning on it, so was Adonia, but they were doing it to get away from their crazy families.

Maria was smirking, so of course Viola was going to smirk right back at her. “Obsession by the transitive property.” They remarked. Viola had never heard of such a thing happening… but then again, who had ever heard of a relationship like Maria and Viola’s before? They accepted that reasoning without any further comment.
Viola shrugged when Maria asked if their family moving to Britain was a good thing. “It’s not a bad thing.” They commented. “Mostly I think it’ll be good for my dad’s career. You know how some people can be. Politically, I mean.” It made sense that Durmstrang, a school famed for its teaching of the Dark Arts, would be in an area of the world that was less tolerant of Muggleborns and halfbloods. Since Viola’s father made a living preaching about how non-purebloods deserved the same rights as their pureblood counterparts, he wasn’t exactly well-liked in the area surrounding the school. “Doesn’t really matter to me where I am.” Viola said with a shrug. As far as they were concerned, they could be anywhere as long as there were other people around to keep them entertained.

That smirk remained at Viola's comment. "You say that like it's a bad thing." she responded teasingly before rolling back into her back and ending the contact with them. The arm that had been draped across their lap now lay on her on stomach. She knew she was a bit.... needy when it came to physical contact. Even more so when the person in question was important to her. Like Viola. It was becoming second nature for Maria to reach out for her partner, never satisfied when there was a lack of contact. But... sometimes she knew she had do tone it down.
"I'm not really a fan of politics." she answered lazily. They bored her. Plus magical politics were a pain. If only because she fell under the 'part human' category. It was always great fun when the word Halde breed for thrown around in politics do describe people like her. "Is your father any good at it?" she asked after a moment, slightly curious. She didn't actually know what Viola's father did in politics.

Viola rolled their eyes when Maria said that they had said obsession by the transitive property was a bad thing. “Generally, liking something just because your partner likes it is a sign of an insecure and unhealthy relationship.” Viola informed their girlfriend factually. They weren’t sure if they would consider Maria an insecure person – she was certainly not the best when it came to building strong, lasting relationships, considering that Viola was, to their knowledge, Maria’s only serious, semi-long-term partner. When Maria rolled over, Viola leaned over to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear – the closest they would come to admitting that they actually missed it when Maria wasn’t in physical contact with them. Sometimes it became excessive, but it was a nice reminder that their girlfriend was always there.
“Neither am I.” Viola agreed when Maria said she wasn’t a fan of politics. “I understand why they’re important, but I’ll never be good enough at smiling while I stab someone in the back.” They were too blunt to be any good as a politician, that much was for sure. At the question about their father’s aptitude at the subject, Viola shrugged. “He’s still employed, so that’s something.” And more than their mother could say.

Maria slowly smiled. Unhealthy relationships wasn't a foreign concept to her. She was a bit of an expert st forming them. She knew that she was a taker when it came to relationships. She took, and took, and took until nothing was left and the she just tossed the person aside. The only lasting relationships she had was with her cousin (and that was unhealthy simply due to her obsessive protectiveness), Adonia (also not always healthy since they both used each other and had no problem with actually hurting each other in the process..), and now... Viola. Maria didn't respond immediately, taking a moment to ponder. At the briefest of touch from Viola, the brunette caught Viola's hand in her own. It was so hard to keep her hands to herself, especially when Viola initiated it. With a content sigh she turned her head just a little to nuzzle into Viola's hand. Inhaling at the same time. Still like sea salt. How Viola could smell so differently like herself she'd never know, but she liked it. "Do you think I'm insecure or that this is an unhealthy relationship?" she murmured softly, eyes closing as she enjoyed the small contact of Viola's hand. Maybe she was insecure. Nothing about her life had ever made her feel 'secure' after all.
Maria smirked a little at the idea of Viola faking a smile and pretending to be nice. "The world would be a sad place if you ever got good at it. Stay the Viola I know and love." Maria didn't catch the word she'd just so casually thrown out. Didn't even realize what she'd said. It'd just come out so naturally. Even now she didn't seem to realize yet....

Maria asked if she was insecure or their relationship was unhealthy, and that gave Viola genuine pause. They weren’t sure of the answer, and that was probably because they were actually a member of the relationship. It was so much easier to observe others than it was to observe yourself. Viola was tempted to say that the relationship was unhealthy because Maria wouldn’t admit her feelings, but that felt more like blame than any genuine critique of how they worked together, so they kept silent about that. Viola just shrugged again. “I think that everyone is a little insecure sometimes.” As for the health of relationships, well… everyone had some problems with their spouse. It was just a natural part of living – if two people got along all the time, then one, or both, of them were lying.
Maria said that the world would be sad if Viola ever got good at smiling, and Viola just snorted. But then they heard the word. Love? Maria had been so hesitant to say that word before, when Viola had made a show about expressing their feelings. From her lack of hesitation (or immediate spluttering afterwards), it sounded like Maria hadn’t even realized what she had said. Viola was keen to keep it that way, unsure of what the ramifications would be if what had been said was realized. “I think you’d make a good politician. Pretty face, dangerous fire… It’s a match made in heaven.” Viola said with a grin.

Maria let go of Viola's hand and sat up, peering curiously at her partner after their words. They didn't comment on their and Maria's relationship which only made her wonder if this really was unhealthy or not... Regardless, Maria leaned in, her fingertips brushing against Viola's hip once more as her lips pressed against their cheek. "You make me feel secure." Was her whispery answer after the light kiss. While Maria always took her chance to flirt with her partner (flirt relentlessly, too.) there was often times a deeper emotion behind it. A seriousness.
The half Veela still hadn't realized quite what she'd said. Or rather, what the meaning behind it was. It was just a saying, wasn't it? Eventually it would come to her though that, in her own way, she'd admitted at least in part her feelings for Viola. That she did love them. "Just a pretty face and fire?" She asked slowly, and was instantly reminded of their night as the Yule Ball where it was like pulling teeth to get Viola to compliment her. "I don't think I have the patience for politics though, aren't you worried about what might happen the first time someone tells me no? You know how much I hate that word." And yet, Viola got away with refusing Maria more times then could be counted... How was that fair?

Viola paused when Maria said that they made her feel secure. It was such a simple statement, but it was one of the best compliments that Viola had ever received – they had made someone feel good, and secure, just by being themself… and that felt good. Maria repeated their comment about a pretty face and fire, and the Durmstrang student nodded. “That’s what people who don’t know you see.” Viola said. The implication in their voice was clear – even if others only saw Maria’s beauty and her pyromancy, Viola so much more. They saw the girl who was hiding the façade of the woman, the child who still wanted to be loved instead of coveted. It was natural, Viola thought, for human beings to want to be wanted for who they were, not what they were. And that was what Viola tried to do for Maria, even though they still swore that they had only scraped the surface of who Maria was. It didn’t really matter how much they knew now, though – Viola intended to spend a long time learning the rest. “Some people do deserve to be set on fire.” Viola said with a shrug. It probably wouldn’t help the fight for demihuman equality if a part-Veela started toasting people like marshmallows, but in the short-term, it would feel pretty good to watch people get what was coming to them. As for Maria hating the word ‘no’… Well, wasn’t Viola’s entire existence centered around getting her more used to hearing it (and obeying it)?

That.... was not the answer Maria was expecting. She'd laid back down on the grass at that moment but fixed Viola is a strange look. Almost like she couldn't decide on how to react from the comment but knew she should react somehow. Like she couldn't exactly decide what emotion to feel. Viola was usually a sarcastic and blunt person. But that answer...
"What do you see, then?" she whispered, loud enough that Viola could hear it but quiet enough that if they didn't want to answer they could dismiss it as so soft to be heard. For some reason she felt... nervous. Anxious about how Viola might see her. Almost as if... as if she cared what they thought. That was crazy talk though. Maria didn't care what anyone thought!
... right?
Swallowing the strange emotions she forced a smirk and looked up at the sky. "Sometimes. But I don't think starting literal fires is good for a political career."
