He claimed that she kept her smiles all to herself and she rolled her eyes, "maybe I like you going through all the trouble," she countered. She didn't, at least not back then. But... She didn't mind so much now. Then he joked about being held back a year for her sake and she laughed, shaking her head, "that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," she said firmly. It really was, but also it was rather funny, if not a little sweet. He was just joking, of course, as he always was. She was afraid that if they ever became closer friends she wouldn't be able to tell when he was being serious and when he was just... Being Shawn. He said lessons whete his speciality and she nodded, "guess we should do a summer intensive workshop or something," she suggested, only half joking. It could be pretty funny... Then he said that he didn't want to get busted for taking the time of the 'best healer'. She rolled her eyes, "you're joking but I really am planning on being the best. Just wait, I'll be running that place." There wasn't even a tiny hit of a joke in her voice. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn smirked slightly as Callisto claimed she might just have liked him going through all the trouble of making her smile. "You know what they say, sometimes the sweetest smiles are the ones that are the most trouble to get." He replied with a laugh, partly because he just made that up on the spot but he could imagine someone having said that before. Also it wasn't completely untrue in a few certain cases. "Stick around, that'll probably change at some point." Shawn joked but the chances were high he'd always say something stupid just for a laugh or to cheer someone up.
"Sounds like it would be fun to me, I was looking for something to do with my summer. It looks like I found my summer project." Shawn laughed, even if she was kidding he did need something to do over the summer. Sure he could always find something to kill sometime but this sounded like far more fun even if it was just a hypothetical joke for now. Callisto claimed he was joking but shared her plan to be the best some day. "I have no doubt you will be, the only think I was joking about was the Ministry official coming after me. The fact is they'd probably be coming for you for wasting your time having fun." Shawn replied as he walked beside her, it was nice to hear that she had such goals. "Besides it'll always handy knowing the healer running St.Mungos. A splinter in my paw is the worst." Among any other injuries Shawn was bound to run into in his life.

He said that sometimes the sweetest smiles that were the ones that were the most trouble to get. She could agree with that. Most things worth having didn't come easily, including smiles. He also added that if she stuck around she would hear more dumb things. She laughed, softer this time, "maybe I will," she challenged. He said the summer project sounded fun and she nodded, "I'm not kidding," she said firmly, though her lips were curved a little in a smirk. "I expect first class lessons, Ashcroft," she said firmly. As for her being the best, he said he had no doubt she would be. That didn't surprise her. It was clear to anyone she met how determined she was. "Some of them actually encourage me to have more fun," she corrected. "They think it's unhealthy for me to be... well, me," she added. He mentioned a splintered paw and she rolled her eyes, trying not to smile, "you could just turn into a human again and take the splinter out yourself."They made it to the Broomsticks and she stepped in first, moving toward an empty table for the two of them. shawn lesley ashcroft

"All the better for me, I won't have to run past you as a dog each time just to get your attention and get you to smile. Granted I didn't know it would be you this time." Shawn wouldn't complain one bit if Callisto was serious about being around more often. There was always worse company out in the world. Shawn also got a certain delight out of making someone who has always seemed so serious smile and laugh. It also didn't hurt that the serious little first year was all grown into an attractive woman who actually was smiling on her own and willing to be around him.
Callisto reassured him that she wasn't kidding and Shawn just smiled at the idea of trying to give lessons on how to be a class clown. She also demanded first class service which he wouldn't have a problem with. "Well of course, nothing but the best for our future comedian." Shawn reassured her as multiple ideas for first class service floated in his head. The funniest would be getting Callisto her own little desk, just as a joke obviously. He wasn't surprised to hear that some of Callisto's coworkers thought she needed to have more fun even if unhealthy isn't the word he would have used. "Sounds like you work with some pretty smart people but I wouldn't say it's unhealthy for you to be yourself. I like the way you are but certainly a little more fun isn't going to kill you." Shawn teased for a moment with a small laugh near the end. "Than again I'm not the healer here, you are."
"Yeah but where is the fun in that?" Shawn replied, as he normally did take his own splinters out. It happened more often than he wanted to admit and he wasn't about to ruin a perfectly good joke with some petty thing like facts at the moment. He followed her into the three broomsticks and the empty table after that. "How did Hogwarts treat you for last six years? More productive I imagine without me bugging you." Shawn asked with a laugh as they waited for someone to come by.

He said it was better for him to not have to run past her as a dog just to get her to smile and get her attention. She shook her head, her eyes rolling again. She was sure that was the hundredth time since they saw each other. He said he didn't know it would be her this time and she waved it off, "well, now that you know it is me, and what I look like as an adult, maybe you won't bother with the silly joke again," she said. Then, he said that he would give her nothing but the best for their lessons and she smiled a little wider, nodding in approval. He agreed with her coworkers, of course, but also said that he didn't think she was being unhealthy. Still, a little fun 'wouldn't kill her', which is what everyone said. "That's true, and I think I'm doing just fine," she said as he pointed out that she was the healer, not himself. Of course he wouldn't think taking care of his own paw was fun. She rolled her eyes again, "Hogwarts was lovely," she said with a firm nod. "There was... a hard time when my sister was there," her older sister had been kicked out of school, more or less... "but for me it was great. Lot of studying." She looked up as the waiter arrived, "a butterbeer please, and whatever he'll have. I'm paying," she said firmly, turning to Shawn so he could place his order. shawn lesley ashcroft

Callisto explained how he shouldn't have to worry about his silly joke now that he knew what she looked like as an adult and trying to get her to smile with it. "Yes, that silly joke. I'm sure I could find something else I haven't tried yet." Shawn replied with a smirk as he laughed a little while he thought about it some more. "Actually it'd probably be crazier at this point to just walk up and greet you like a normal person would." That was something that rarely happened, yet had started to happen more often now that he was a professor and had to appear professional at times.
Shawn listened on as she described her time at Hogwarts while he was gone. While she spoke he tried to remember where he had been for most those six years while she was at school. He had traveled for sometime but most of it was such a blur. He could remember the places and what he had done but what days they had happened on were lost to him. "A sister you say?" Shawn added with a small smile, "I don't remember annoying anyone who kind of looked like you. I must have missed her or she hadn't started by then. Lucky her I suppose, right?" Still it was a little sad to hear there was some hard times for her. Yet it sounded just like her when Callisto brought up all the studying she did. Shawn was never a fan but it had its place and he had to do it plenty of times when he could fight being distracted by something.
He just laughed as Callisto spoke to the waiter with her order and said she was paying for whatever he got. There was the slightest temptation to ask what was their most expensive item but he fought that and made a serious order instead. "Butter beer as well, professors salary and all she's got to pay for me." Shawn joked, genuinely surprised when he had found out the pay for professors yet he didn't do it for the money anyway. The waiter didn't laugh though, just toke there orders and walked off to get the drinks. Shawn was used to humorless people. "Reminds me of someone from school," Shawn teased Callisto slightly.

Cal shook her head, "well, I suppose crazier things have happened... but yes, it's what I would least expect," she confirmed. At this point she would always expect some crazy antic from Shawn rather than a normal greeting, so him doing that would be surprising. She frowned as he said he didn't remember her sister. "I have two sisters who both were there when I was. One older and one younger," she explained. "It was... complicated. And that's all I have to say about that," she said with a firm nod, wondering why she had even brought up her sisters in the first place. Callisto rolled her eyes at his teachers salary comment. At the comment about the waiter reminding him of someone Cal leaned forward, placing folded arms on the table to rest on, "let up a little bit, Shawn. I'm really trying here," she was teasing, too. shawn lesley ashcroft(uuhhh... you can fade into grey like 'they had a great time at lunch yay' or we can keep going I really don't care hahah)

"I'll have to save that for a special occasion or something if it's the least expected thing." Shawn replied with a smirk as he didn't blame Callisto for feeling that way. Something that would sure fire throw anyone off was him being formal in some way, unless the situation truly called for it. "That or train an actual German Sheppard to run by you that just happens to look like me." That was an idea, probably a time consuming one and did involve him actually getting a dog so less likely with how his life was right now.
Callisto spoke of her sisters, how he missed the fact that she had not one but two sisters was beyond him but than again they never did talk much. It was more just him trying to get her to laugh or smile and her not being in the mood for it. Still it felt like something he should have known. She explained it was complicated and that's all she had to say and Shawn took the hint. He was never the best with some signals like when to stop being himself cause people were getting annoyed but he did know when someone wasn't in the mood to keep talking about something. "Say no more," was all Shawn replied with a nod as he didn't plan to bring it up anymore unless she wanted to. Everyone had things they didn't want to talk about, himself included.
Shawn laughed for a moment as Callisto told him to ease up and that she was trying. Which was true compared to how she was in school this was a very different Callisto and yet the same in a few ways still. "Ms. Oliveira are you asking for special treatment? You'll come to learn all my students no matter if it's in Transfiguration or Class clowning get annoyed equally. Doesn't matter whether I like them or not." Shawn teased right back yet if she was serious he could do his best to accommodate and ease up.

He said he would save approaching her and saying hello for a special occasion and she rolled her eyes again. She was sure she was going to get a headache from doing that so much. But then he said his idea about training an actual German Shepard to run by her and she shook her head, her eyes narrowing but her lips smiling, "oh that would be a mean trick," she concluded. He said 'say no more' in terms of her sisters, which she thought was unnecessary since she said she had nothing else to say on the subject, but he was clearly just trying to be supportive. Once she told him to ease up he laughed, and she smiled at that. He asked if she was asking for special treatment and said he would treat her the same as any other student, whether he 'liked them or not'. She leaned forward on the table as their drinks arrived and stayed silent until the waiter left. Then she raised an eyebrow at him, "are you implying you like me, Mr. Ashcroft?"shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn just laughed as Callisto called his idea a mean trick. Possibly true but it still seemed hilarious in his head. Yet a lot of things had seemed like great ideas in his head that turned out to be terrible once he put them into action. "Why? Cause you'll be upset thinking I just ran by and didn't notice you or because the dog will have to put up with me?" Shawn teased both her and in the end made a joke about himself. You could just call it being fair but he was just having fun and trying to get a laugh.
Their drinks arrived just after he finished speaking and as the waiter left Callisto questioned him on what he was implying and Shawn just smirked for a second before he spoke. "I could also be implying I that don't like you but seeing as how I'm here now I'll let you decide which category you're in." He explained not really giving a straight answer as he took a sip of his drink. He didn't give a straight answer partly because that's just who he was and partly that he figured it was obvious he liked her. He was spending time with her after all, he didn't go out of way to be around people he disliked. "Besides on principle I wouldn't be allowed to dislike you if you're buying me a drink."

She laughed, a fuller laugh than she had shared with him thus far. "I guess because I would think it was you and you'd run right by me," she chose. "That would be sad. Or rather, because I'd watch the dog go and then the real you would sneak up behind me and scared the daylights out of me, I assume?" she guessed. It was easy to picture Shawn trying to scare her by distracting her with a dog doppelganger. Callisto wasn't incredibly into practical jokes and pranks, but they may not be so bad if the end result was spending some time with someone she enjoyed. Wait, was she enjoying Shawn Ashcroft now? Shawn said that he could also be implying he didn't like her, but he'd let her pick. Her eyes narrowed, and he added that he couldn't dislike someone who was buying him a drink. "Well, I guess I'll just have to keep buying you drinks then," she suggested, lifting her glass toward his so they could clink them together if he chose to meet hers in the middle. She took a sip, letting the warmth run through her before speaking again, "but if I'm buying all the drinks then how are you supposed to get me to like you?"shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn just smirked as Callisto explained how she would feel and how that would be followed be him sneaking up on her. That was a genuinely funny idea and he was a little ashamed in himself that he gotten that far in the plan to think of it himself. Still if he had actually been planning it he could only assume he would have come up with that too. "I hadn't thought that far ahead. Thanks for the idea, I'll make sure you remind you that you thought of it after I do it." He replied with a smirk as he teased Callisto for a moment. "I'll also name him Shawn for added confusion."
Callisto explained she'd have to keep buying him drinks than and he just laughed while lifting his glass to meet hers in a cheer. After which she even asked how he was suppose to make her like him. "You don't have to, I like you enough already. I don't make a habit of spending my free time around people I don't like. Yet the free drinks certainly don't hurt." Shawn explained without any jokes this time, if she was being serious he didn't want Callisto to feel she had to keep getting him drinks. Even if he was sure she was just saying that. "As for getting you to like me, what's not to like? I'm fun, playful, I can do tricks and I'm already house broken. The full package." Shawn almost got that out like he was being serious but couldn't help but start to laugh a little at the end. While he joking describe himself like someone would a dog needing adoption he was interested in what it would take for her to like him if she hadn't.

She had no doubt in her mind that he would use the idea against her, and she was looking forward to it. As much as she rolled her eyes, Brandon had taught her that there was something about these happy-go-lucky types that just made her... happy. She was more aware of that now than she ever was, and she was still working on accepting the reality of that. Shawn was a good place to start, though, becoming friends who was literally the epitome of the kind of person she was always rolling her eyes at. He met her glass with his and she smiled a half smile, taking her glass back to sip from it as he answered her next question. He said he liked her enough already, but that the free drinks didn't hurt. She smirked raising both of her eyebrows as she waited for him to go on. He spoke about what there was to like about him and she tilted her head from side to side, weighing the options there. "I suppose those are good points," house broken, he thinks he's so funny. "What kind of tricks do you do? Those may make or break this 'liking you' idea."shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn enjoyed the look on Callisto's face as her head tilted from side to side. He could only assume she was thinking about what he had said was to like about himself. He was moderately serious of course but still he couldn't help but try and make a joke at the end. While she did this he enjoyed more of his drink, of course that was when she started to speak. Shawn smirked slightly as Callisto asked what kind of tricks he could do and that depending on if she would like him or not. "Just an Idea? And here I thought you always liked me, just too annoyed by me most times to show it." He replied with a laugh as he knew that wasn't true besides the annoying her part. "Fetch, rollover, shake, speak and those are all the things I can do while not being a dog. If I would have known I was going to be interviewed for being liked by you I'd have worn something a little fancier." Shawn explained with a laugh teasing her just slightly.

His smirk at her question made her eyes narrow. He lamented her saying it was 'just an idea' and said he thought she always liked him, outside of the annoyance. She shook her head, not saying anything in response to that. The truth was, he really just kind of bother her back in school. She was a first year, trying to focus on studies, and there was this seventh year goofing off. She didn't think that was a good example. Now she realized that was a little harsh, but she didn't think it was entirely out of line for her to feel that way. He spoke about the tricks, and they were all dog tricks. Then he said he should have worn something fancier and she chuckled just a little. "No, no. I like that outfit," she said nodding toward him. "I'm in uniform, after all. If you were fancy then I'd feel silly," she said. "As for the tricks... I'll definitely have to try those sometime. Though, I'd like to see you do them as a human too. Sounds amusing."shawn lesley ashcroft
