Rory had five minutes to go in his shift when the alarm sounded. They were needed. With a bunch of fellow Mediwizards, Rory apparated to the site specified, looking around quickly to assess the situation. It was bad. From his cursory glance, Rory couldn't tell if it was an attack or just a big accident, but there were quite a few people injured. He joined the fray of confused people running around, looking for someone to help. It took only a moment for him to find a young man on the ground, unconscious. Rory checked his vitals, deciding after looking over the man quickly, that he needed more help than could be given here. "I have to take this one to Mungo's," he called to his superiors. Then he prepared the young man so he could transport him to Mungo's quickly. It was a good thing the man was unconscious, because he wouldn't like this at all.
"We need some help here!" Rory called as they entered the hospital. He knew that it would take moments for someone to come and help, so he wasn't particularly worried ... but he was definitely going to stay with this kid. He didn't want anything to happen to him.

Callisto had a long busy day, or rather two days. She always took extra shifts, because she'd rather be working than not. She was tired but focused incredibly hard on staying busy at work, keeping her feet moving as she always did. Her healing uniform had blood on the elbows of the sleeves but her front was clean. She tried not to let her uniform get dirty if she could help it, but sometimes the occasion called for it. If someone's life was at stake she wasn't going to worry about her clothes.
Just such an occasion arose when a medi wizard burst in with a patient in his arms and Callisto was the closest healer. "Okay, okay, damaged forehead and ears, arm... This way," she quickly assessed the patient as they walked, the door to the closest door opened on it's own and she pointed to the bed while whipping out her wand. "It looks like a spell gone wrong," she guessed, stepping forward. "Healer Oliveira," she introduced, not looking at the guy as she bent over the patient.

Rory never really felt comfortable inside Mungo's. Sure, he was kind of trained here for a bit, but not really. The majority of Rory's training happened in the streets, because that was where he worked. He wasn't trained in depth about the different equipment they had here, while he did know vague tidbits about how to use them. However, he was trained for quick acting in the moment and working with what he had on him. That had to be useful, even here right?
The girl appeared almost immediately, started talking about the injuries and telling them where to go. Rory followed her, still feeling a bit out of place, but also feeling determined to stay with the kid. He actually wasn't quite a kid. He looked like he was 19 or 20, but he just looked young to Rory. He nodded when she said that it looked like a spell went wrong. "Do you see things like this often?" he asked curiously. If she did, maybe she knew what they could do to help him right away. He watched as she looked the boy over even closer. "Healer Williams," he responded, introducing himself despite the fact that she wasn't looking at him.

He said his name after asking if she had seen things like this often and she sighed, setting her wand aside for the moment on the table beside the bed and lifted her hands, letting gloves float over from their cupboard and settled on her hands. "Yes," she admitted. "Williams, straighten his leg out and look at that fracture on the side of his knee," she instructed, focusing her attention on his arm. "People mess up magic all the time. The signs are usually pretty clear," she explained, "if you can recognize the damage as specific spells it makes healing it easier. Where there others?"she asked firmly Some nurses came in and started helping get the kid some pain killers and cutting off the bits of his clothes that were in the way as she spoke.
"See the blue scrap like patterns in the blood? That generally means he was the one holding the wand," she said. She was a spell damage healer, so it was kind of her specialty. "You did great getting him stable, thank gods," she added.

It was definitely a relief to Rory that she knew things like this. At least that meant that this boy probably wasn't in a lot of danger. At least, Rory felt like he got him here quick enough, that he made sure there was time for her to do what she needed to. She started telling him what to do and Rory nodded firmly, straightening the boy's leg out and looking at the knee obediently. He started to work on it a little, making sure that things were clean. He was surprised when she started to describe that there were easy signs to show that one was messed up by magic. He nodded as he listened to her. "They should be coming shortly. He was the worst," Rory told her. Since the boy was so bad, he brought him earlier than was typical.
She pointed out specifics and he looked, surprised that he never knew that before. Granted, she spent her time in sterile places where such things were noticeable. Out in the field he didn't have time to notice things like that. He was too focused on the things going on around himself when he was working. "Thanks." He hesitated a moment. "Uhh just tell me what you want me to do. I've never really done much work in the hospital. So I don't know what else to do," Rory hated admitting that, but he wanted to help and not be a hindrance so he might as well tell the truth.

Callisto was still not looking at him and didn't see him nod, but she guessed it was a yes because of the sentence that followed. "Good," she said, in reference to this guy being the worst. Not that more people coming was a good thing. He thanked her and she didn't respond to that. He told her to give him directions, which she could do. She lived for that.
She started giving him quick orders, things that he would know, and got them through an hour of taking care of this kid. She was blunt, straightforward and maybe a little harsh sounding, but she was sure he wouldn't mind because that was her job. Soon, though, the kid was stable and she took a step back, leaning against the wall, taking a deep breath. After a moment, she turned to Williams, "coffee? Tea? Couch in the break room is really comfortable. Come on," she turned to walk out of the room, gesturing him to follow.

He understood what she meant when Healer Oliveira said good that they had the worst. He thought it was good as well because people that were as injured as this took a lot of energy to care for. Not that he wasn't willing to help people that needed it, but it was always easier when not everyone was injured as badly as this poor young man was.
As the woman started telling him what to do, Rory followed her commands exactly. He knew that she could help him care for the boy and that she was his best chance of survival in this atmosphere. He got him here and now he was willing to do the work to help him. The girl seemed strict and demanding, but Rory didn't mind. That was common in people who did healing with hard injuries. Eventually they were done and Rory stepped back as she did. Then she started to ask if he wanted a drink of coffee or tea and that the break room was more comfortable. "Tea," Rory answered before he followed her out of the room. Before long they got to the break room and Rory set about making himself some tea. "Do you want some?" he asked curiously.

He chose tea and she led the way, settling into a seat as he started to make his own. He offered her some and she shook her head, "I'm just going to have some coffee," she said, waving her wand toward the pot in the corner so it would start brewing. She lowered her wand onto the table once the coffee was going and sighed. "How long have you been doing this for? Healing," she clarified. She loved the science of it all but was starting to see why doing it only part time was nice. She did like being busy, of course, but she also liked not feeling as if she was going to pass out every night, morning, or whenever a forty eight hour shift ended. And she'd only been doing this full time thing for three months, only having been a healer for four years. She was too young to get burnt out.

Rory nodded when Callisto said that she wanted to have coffee and started it with a wave of her wand. He knew it was probably strange that he liked to actually make his tea instead of just using magic, but he did. Making tea was soothing to him. As he worked, she asked how long he'd been involved in healing and Rory thought for a moment. "Uh, since I graduated, so about ... ten years, I think," he told her, nodding his head when he realized that he was right. "You?" She looked younger than him ... at least he thought she did, but it was always hard for him to tell. "How well do you like it?" he added, trying to be a bit social even though he was just super exhausted.

Ten years. Wow. And he seemed so... Balanced. She didn't realize her jaw had dropped open just a little until she was about to speak. "Only four years. But with the state of things..." the past two years, especially, "I've seen all kinds of things already," she explained. The Hogwarts attack on April first last year and the Kings Cross attack brought plenty of cases, and even brought the death of her best friends fiance. Callisto wasn't scared of death, though, which was a good trait to have as a healer.
Her coffee brewed in the corner, almost finished. She could smell the beans perfume wafting over to her and instantly she felt more alert, and excited to sip the coffee when it was done. She liked tea too, of course, and it was actually kind of comforting to watch Williams make it without magic. The pattern was soothing to watch, and she considered for a moment that maybe he was onto something.

Her mouth was open and she was staring at him for a moment after he answered her question. Yeah, Rory noticed. He pretended that he didn't, that he was too busy making the tea to notice, but he did. He just kept that tidbit to himself for now to try and make her feel more comfortable around him. He nodded when she explained that she'd been working for four years, but still saw a lot already. "That's obvious from the way you handled yourself in there," Rory responded automatically. "Great job." He wasn't trying to sound condescending and hoped it didn't sound that way to her. He really meant it. He'd seen plenty of healers freeze when faced with a tough patient, but she'd been cool and collected the entire time. She did marvelously.
He finished his tea and turned around, moving to sit on a couch that was near to her. He didn't want to seem rude, but he was exhausted after a long day. He was sure she'd understand, since she'd been a healer for four years. "What made you want to be a healer?" Rory asked curiously. He knew it was a cheesy question, but sometimes those were the important ones. Really, he was just trying to get to know her better and this question seemed to fit in with the line of their conversation.

He complimented her and she just nodded in thanks, not saying anything verbally. She knew that she was good at her job, otherwise she wouldn't be there doing it. She wanted to be the best at everything she did, so it wasn't hard to be the best at this when she really, really tried at it. He sat on the couch near her and she stayed in her chair, not really caring about the spacial distance between them. They weren't really friends or anything, after all.
He asked what made her want to be a healer and she smiled a little, "pride," she admitted. "I felt that I could do it better than anyone else, and so I did it. I know being a healer is one of the hardest things to be so," she shrugged, "that made me want to be the best at it. Still trying to do that," she explained. "What about you?"

She just nodded in response to his compliment, but that wasn't a very big surprise to Rory. Most healers didn't like getting attention for what they did. He was among them of course. He didn't become a healer because he wanted glory for it, he wanted to help people.
When she started explaining what made her want to be a healer, Rory couldn't help but smile back. "I don't think I've ever heard that reason before," he admitted, still smiling. She told him so it didn't seem like something she would be sensitive about. He shrugged when she turned the question back on him. "I like helping people. Healing them, making them feel better. I hate the idea of someone stranded with no one on the way. So I decided to be the first person on the scene." He enjoyed it too. Not seeing people hurt, but knowing that he could save them or be the difference between life and death. It was a big responsibility and not always easy, but Rory just wanted to help people. This was the best way for him to do so.

She believed that plenty of healers had the same reasoning she did, they just wouldn't admit it because I didn't want to sound like a jerk. She however, was a big believer in honesty, and there was no point in hiding who she really was. That would just be a big waste of time, because usually people found out who you are anyway, so what was the reason and pretending to be someone else?
He gave his reason, and it was a pretty common one. Wanting to help people and all of that. She nodded, "I bet it is nice being the first one on the scene, because then you can be that face that reassures the patient that they are going to be okay," she said with a short nod. Her coffee finished and the mug floated over to her as she prepared the cream at the table. "And do you have a life outside of work? I find that's the hardest thing to balance," she asked.

She seemed to accept his reason without question, not that Rory expected anything differently. Most people assumed that healers became healers so they could help people, so his reason was rarely ever questioned beyond that. His smile widened when she commented on his job in particularly. "Yes, I like that. Even when they're not going to be okay, it's nice to make sure they're not alone." Wow Rory. Way to kill the mood. Well, the little mood that was there.
She started asking about life outside of work and Rory shrugged. "Yeah, I think that's the hardest thing too. Lots of times I'm too exhausted to really leave the place, which is why I think it's important to have good friends. Sometimes they have to drag you out, but it's a good thing and I normally end up having quite a bit of fun when they do that. What do you normally do outside of work?"
