Things were so much better now. They just made so much sense ever since she and Riley figured out what they were. They were dating. Even the thought was enough to make Kinsey grin like an idiot, if she wasn't paying attention to herself. She was working on that though. She really didn't want to seem too happy because she wasn't entirely sure if that would make Dom notice her and realize that they hadn't had a chat lately. Which made her think of another thing she appreciated about Riley. He helped her not worry constantly about their housemate. Riley had no idea who her bully was, but while Kinsey refused to tell him who it was, she still found peace in his arms, or really any time when she was with him.
Tonight they were focused on homework for astronomy. Kinsey was at her own telescope, charting out the location of different planets and stars for class, but wishing she could be done. She wasn't quite there yet, but she was starting to get bored. This was recording, it wasn't practical magic. She looked through the telescope, found something new, then added it to her chart before restarting the process over and over. Ugh.
She paused and glanced over at her boyfriend. Yes, her heart started to race any time that word passed through her mind. Boyfriend. Riley was her boyfriend and she could still hardly believe it. "How much do you have done?" she asked him, wondering if he was ahead of her or not. He probably was ahead since she was so distracted.

Riley could honestly say that he had the best few weeks of his life. He had dated before and had several girlfriends in the past, he liked to think of himself as a bit of a ladies man. He was charming and sweet and was good in relationships. Except, most girls didn't really like a guy who was always reading them, and to be honest, it was exhausting to have to read them and to be able to notice when they weren't telling the truth or keeping something hidden, which everyone did from time to time. But Kinsey was different. She was easy to be around, she was easy to talk to and easy to read when he needed to, which wasn't often since they were pretty honest with each other anyway. He knew there was still a big secret that she was keeping, and a part of him was a little upset that she wouldn't tell him who her bully was, but that was another story for another day.
Currently, the two were in the Astronomy tower working on sky maps for class. Riley liked astronomy class, regardless of if people saw it as practical magic or not. He sometimes used astronomy to help him figure things out about people, the position of the planets and moons and astronomic events effected humans more than most knew. "Uh, I'm just about done." the Ravenclaw admitted with a glance over to his girlfriend, who looked so pretty in the night air. "Why? How are you doing?" he asked.

Of course he was almost done. He seemed to like astronomy a little bit more than she did, or at least he was better at it than she was. Kinsey made a face at him when he looked over at her. "I'm ... about halfway done," she admitted after a second. "It still shouldn't take too long though," Kinsey added, turning back to her telescope. Dang it, now she needed to focus better. She'd been so distracted beforehand that she really wasn't working as well as she could be. The thing was, she wasn't really fond of the idea of Riley finishing before her and having nothing to do. Then again, maybe he would make up something for himself to do while he waited. Uhh, there she went, not focusing again. "I'm having a hard time focusing," she whispered after a few minutes more of trying to focus on her charts and failing. She'd added one planet, with its two moons. Maybe this would take longer than she expected.

Riley had never had a problem with getting his homework done quickly, he figured it was one of the main reasons he was put in Ravenclaw house. He actually was normally able to get a lot of it done during class since he would finish his in class assignments quickly also. However, there were exceptions to every rule. He liked to keep the mindset that if he focused hard and got it all done quickly then he'd have more free time to spend with friends or do his own extra-curricular studying.
He gave a small chuckle when she admitted that she was only half way though. He knew that not everyone was a fast as he was, and he didn't expect them to be. "That's okay, I've still got a little bit to finish up." he admitted, he's try to slow down the last couple of bits to chart. She said she was having a hard time focusing and he began to worry. "Why? Are you okay?" he asked.

He laughed, which Kinsey expected when she told him how slow she was going. Honestly, she normally wasn't this slow. Kinsey could normally focus quite simply and had an easy time getting through her work quickly, but there was something about tonight. A part of her didn't want to focus. Mostly because she wasn't in the mood to chart the sky, she just wanted to look at it ... with Riley. She kept telling herself that she could do that after she finished her work, but that didn't make the focusing any easier. He said he had a little bit more to do and she rolled her eyes. "Don't slow down for my sake," she told him, though she doubted he'd listen. He tended to always do what he thought was best, whatever he thought would help her the most.
Then he was concerned. She could see it in his expression. He started asking why she couldn't focus, if she was okay and Kinsey shrugged. "There's not really a reason, but yes, I'm fine. I just ... I guess I'm not in the mood to study the stars tonight," she admitted easily. She wasn't going to tell him what she wanted to do though. Maybe if she did he'd tell her to do her work, like Cara would tell her. She wouldn't like that at all. "Don't worry, I'll focus on it anyway." She looked back into the telescope, finding another planet and charting it.

She told him not to slow down for her sake and honestly, even if Riley went slower he knew he would finish before she would and he began to feel a little bad about that. He had finished a lot of the assignment in class yesterday while their classmates were working on how to tell how far away a star was. So he had come up here with Kinsey already having done half of the assignment, he had a head start. "No it's fine." he insisted, not wanting to make her feel bad, everyone went at their own pace and he really respected that. She was distracted and didn't really want to do the work right now, he understood and often felt that way, so he put his pencil down. "How about a study break?" he asked with a smile, "We can just relax for a few minutes and then come back and finish our assignments with clear heads." he suggested.

He told her she didn't have to focus right now, that it was fine and Kinsey smiled over at him, wondering if he understood how good he was for her. Really, there was no need for her to worry that he would be the same as Cara. She should have known that, but sometimes she wondered if things with Riley were too good to be true. No, she wasn't going to think things like that right now. She was surprised when he put his pencil down and tilted her head at hi curiously. Then he mentioned a study break and she nodded enthusiastically, a large smile covering her face. "I think that would be perfect!" She looked around, "How about we could lay down for a bit," she said, flicking her wand so blankets and pillows came out of the cupboards and laid on the floor. She looked over at him, shrugging, non-verbally asking if he was interested.

She liked his idea of taking a break, as he expected her to. They had been working for a while already and it was getting a little late. They had a few days before the homework assignment was due so it's not like they were on too tight of a deadline to be able to afford a break. He walked over to her when she agreed that it would be good to take a study break. She asked if they could lay down for a bit and he agreed, he thought it would be nice to just rest and look at the stars casually rather than in order to learn about them or chart them. He took her hand and walked her over to a spot where the sky was visible enough for them to lay. He got on the ground and laid back, dusting off the floor for the two of them to lay on. "How's this?" he asked.

He approached her, taking her hand and walking to a place where they would both be able to see the stars. Kinsey smiled down at him when he asked how that would be. "It looks perfect," she answered as she moved to lay down beside him. She was close to him, on purpose of course. She always felt more calm and peaceful when Riley was close to her. She looked up at the sky and sighed. "It's so pretty. Sometimes I forget that when I have to chart it for hours," she was kidding about the last part, but only a little bit. "Tell me something?" She asked softly. She and Riley spent far too much time silently looking through telescopes today and she wanted to hear his voice. She really didn't care what he said, she just wanted to talk while they looked up at the stars.

Riley liked laying with her, he laid his arm out so she could use it somewhat like a pillow and also because it made him happy to be touching her. It was a clear night and there wasn't a lot of light pollution because the castle and the small village at the bottom of the mountain were the only light sources around and neither place gave off a lot of light. The stars and moon lit up the sky while the two Ravenclaws lounged on the tower. "It's very pretty." he agreed. "And it really puts it all in perspective, you know? Like the world and the sky are so big and here we are, just two little specks." he speculated. Riley often got weirdly deep and philosophical, especially when it came to looking at the grand scheme of things. She asked him to tell her something and he wasn't exactly sure what she meant, like if she was asking him to answer a question that was about to come or if she just didn't like the silence. "Tell you what?" he asked with a smile.

He put his arm out so she could lay on it and Kinsey did so instantly, cuddling into him a little bit. She couldn't help it, being with him just made her happy in every way imaginable. He started talking about how looking at the sky put everything into perspective and she nodded in agreement. "Two tiny specks in comparison to it all," she agreed. "And what are the chances that we'd become friends?" Really though, they'd gone years without really talking to one another. What were the chances that they would start now? Very small, but they still had. It was almost like a miracle. Kinsey gave a small laugh and shrugged at his next question. "Anything. Just tell me something," she explained, but not really. She just wanted him to talk.

"Two tiny specks in comparison to it all, and what are the chances that we'd become friends?" she asked, agreeing with his comment. She had a good point, there were billions of people on their planet alone, and science had not yet determined if there was life on other planets. But out of billions of people these two had been lucky enough to be in the same place at the same time and their paths had crossed for the better. "It's really amazing how that happens." he nodded. She went on to ask him to tell her anything, he couldn't really think of what to say. There wasn't really anything on his mind. "Well... I don't know... have you told anyone that we're dating yet?" he asked. He had told most of his friends, but he didn't have that many friends to tell. And he was sure that countless students and professors had figured it out on their own just from seeing them together.

He nodded, agreeing that it was amazing how the two of them came together. Kinsey loved the fact that he felt the same way about them as she did. It wasn't a surprise, just a pleasant thing. "I'm glad that it did," she said sweetly. He said he didn't know what to say and she chuckled a little. Then he asked if she told anyone they were dating. "I told Dizzy," she started. "and I wrote a letter to Dustin, I just haven't sent it yet. I don't know when I'll tell the rest of my family," she confessed. She wasn't getting along with most of them well enough to want to tell them. "Have you told anyone?" Kinsey returned the question, figuring that he would answer in the affirmative but asking all the same.

He nodded and turned to kiss her head when she said that she was glad that things worked out and the two of them had found each other. He felt the same way. The universe functioned in mysterious ways that nothing could explain. He would never know why fate had put the two together, why he had decided to walk by the pond on that particular night, but he had and now he was lying watching the stars with the most beautiful girl he had ever met. She explained that she had told a few people, she had told Dizzy, a girl in their house and year who roomed with Kinsey, and she had written a letter to her brother. "You should send it." he insisted. He wondered if her brother would like him. Maybe someone in her family would. He hadn't met her younger sisters yet though so maybe there was hope within them. Though Kinsey didn't talk about them often so he didn't know if they were close or not. "Well you don't have to tell anyone that you don't want to, I'm sure the rumor mill will pick it up soon enough anyway and then everyone will know." she said. That was how he figured most people would find out. "I told Dom Weasley." he nodded, Dom was one of his best friends after all, and she definitely was his best friend of 7th year. he didn't have a lot of close friends besides her, actually. He was a very friendly person and got along with almost everyone, but not many people actually made it to friend status.

Kinsey took Riley's kiss as assent, proof that he was glad they ended up finding one another. She liked it when he kissed her hair and her forehead, even though some might see that as condescending. She knew that it was one way of Riley showing that he cared for her and she absolutely adored that. He told her that she should send her letter to her brother and Kinsey smiled, nodding her head, "I will. I just haven't had the chance yet. I promise I'm not trying to keep it a secret," she said honestly. She didn't want him to think that she was nervous about telling people. That was the last thing on her mind. "I might be able to introduce you to the triplets," she mused. She wasn't particularly close with her younger sisters, but she did get along well enough with Penelope most of the time. "Like Penelope," Kinsey added. "I'm sure she'll like you." At least, she wouldn't let any annoyance at Kinsey mess up Riley's chances of getting her approval, probably. She smiled when he said she didn't have to tell anyone. That kind of came without saying, but she was glad that he agreed and wasn't upset about it. She nodded when he said he told Dom Weasley. Kinsey didn't know her very well, but the girl always seemed quite cheerful and happy. Kinsey found herself biting her lip nervously, "What did she say?" Kinsey couldn't help but ask. She felt strangely anxious, wanting to make sure that his friends approved of her.
