@tamara “If they’re your passion, then leave that job of yours and come work with me,” Mina joked, though was also somewhat serious about it. She enjoyed having free roam of the shop, seeing as she was really the only permanent employee aside from the owner, but that didn’t mean that it didn’t get lonely on the slow days. Her life source thrived on chatting with people and being an extroverted freak of nature, something that didn’t seem to mesh perfectly with working in a bookstore all of the time. While she could complain time and time again about the busy holiday seasons and the start of school, at least during those periods there were people to interact with. Passing her time reading and organizing bookshelves each and every day occasionally made her stir crazy.
Mina gave Tamara a thumbs-up when she agreed that reading the book at the same time sounded good to her. At least then she would have a reason to read the book, something that seemed to slip by her during all of her previous attempts at it. Now she was practically forced to do so, which was good. Heading back towards the front of the store and the cash register, Mina hopped up onto her chair behind the counter and rotated herself slowly back and forth. “So will that be it for today?” Mina pointed at the book. “Don’t want to keep you from any hot dates you might have later tonight, because I know if I keep throwing more books at you, you’ll take them,” she laughed, giving the chair a solid spin that sent her around in circles a few times.

Tamara gave a small laugh to Mina’s joking words, and shrugged her shoulders, “If the Prophet doesn’t work out, maybe I will,” she said a bit joking but also a bit serious. She could always cut herself back to a part-time employee of the prophet and part-time at the bookstore, both writing and books were her passion. It seemed easy enough, and from what she noticed each time she came in, it was only ever Mina. She was sure the place was always looking for new employees, and it would be a lovely pass time if the prophet internship lead nowhere. The two of them moved towards the front of the store and the cash register. “Yeah—I think this will be all,” she said with a small laugh as she placed the book down on the counter next to the register and started fishing for her for her wallet to pay. Tamara laughed, shaking her head, “No—you wouldn’t be keeping me from any hot dates…though you are probably right, I have no control when books are thrown my way,” she said with a laugh.

@tamara Mina’s grinning continued as her friend agreed to potentially join her if her current employment didn’t pan out. The Prophet was certainly an interesting business, though Mina disliked the amount of ‘passion’ some of the reporters had for their work. They were better than the tabloids she lost herself in, of course, but that didn’t mean all of them were decent people. Her own run ins with them always resulted in them pushing her out of the way to get some stupid scoop or a photo of the person they were interviewing. Granted, muggle paparazzi and media intelligence weren’t much better than their magical colleagues were, the few times Mina had found herself amongst them (while out at clubs that supposedly famous people were in as well), they seemed like pleasant people. There were just a million and one different things that a newspaper article could do, and she didn’t like big numbers and odds like that. “Just don’t do it because of me. Do it for the books.” God that was cheesy sounding. Clearly she needed more caffeine in her system.
She nodded her head as the sale became final, clinking open the cash register drawer all the way, in anticipation of Tamara’s payment. That could wait though, since her joke about hot dates made her want to dig around for a little more information. “Like, no hot dates tonight or in general right now? Because more books means more days spent reading. I could literally occupy your entire next week with material if you have nothing going on,” Mina shrugged. “Sometimes I wish I had something going on in the romance department, but then I remember how much it would slow me down and not let me be myself.” That was mostly a personal problem on her part, seeing as any caring partner wouldn’t try to lock her personality up and hold it hostage. “So there’s no one then?” Mina repeated, though changing her words around enough to be more direct about what she was trying to get out. She needed to be nosy for Merlin’s sake!

Tamara laughed, “Do it for the books, got it,” she said in an amused tone, her laughter messing with the way the words came out. While it did, in turn, sound rather cheesy she liked it. Quickly she handed over the payment for the book, and she shook her head at the girl’s next question but didn’t get the chance to answer for her words came rather quickly. She laughed, “Oh no—just not for tonight. I’m happily in a relationship, but we both work. We’ll probably see each other for a ‘hot date’ sometime soon though,” she said laughing lightly. She looked at her seriously, “You just got to find the right person, find someone that doesn’t hold you back and stop you from being yourself, it’s the best feeling in the world,” she said with a smile on her face. She smiled brightly at her as she received her book, “Same time next week then?” she questioned with a laugh as she waved at her friend and left the store behind her.

@tamara Transaction complete, the giddy feeling of making a sale overcame Mina like it normally did. There were often times where she felt like she was taking advantage of the more regular customers, like Tamara, by pushing more books on them, but when they willfully accepted and continued to come back for more it obviously meant she was doing a good job. That and she was able to make her sales look like they were going through the roof whenever the big buyers came in. While browsers were fine and could strike up friendly conversation, she needed the spenders every so often to make up for that, especially when the store wasn’t in a holiday season or bordering on a new Hogwarts term. “Yup! The books appreciate it. They need loving owners. Sitting on these dusty shelves all day gets boring, you know?” And the ones that actually held a personality due to magic made sure she knew of that every single day too. She raised an eyebrow at her friend at the mention of being in a relationship. Now that, Mina was positive she didn’t know about and she desperately did want to know, just not today. One thing at a time. Way back when she would have started grilling Tamara about her love, but Mina had found out that doing that never gave her the exact response she wanted. “Well, someone like that is out there somewhere. They’re hiding from me right now though,” she laughed, even though Tamara was being serious about all of that. As far as Mina was concerned, it would happen eventually, whether the person was found drunk in a club or wandering around the store looking for assistance. “Same time next week. And you’ll have to elaborate on this person you have. I’m curious now.” Keeping her hand in the waving position until the door closed, Mina dropped it to her side as she returned to cleaning up the mess of refiled books that the morning rush had gifted to her. [THE END]
