Dom grinned when Riley stayed that he’d gotten better over the years with lots of practice. ”I take credit for ...” she tapped her chin as she pretended to think it over, ”Ninety-eight percent of that practice. And don’t even think about denying it! We both know the truth.” Dom laughed as they continued walking. This was what she needed, fun with a good friend before she had to leave the castle and her education behind. He agreed that they could try from the astronomy tower and she nodded. If nothing else, it should give them a good vantage point to figure out how to get on the roof. After what seemed like ages they finally reached the tower. She danced around on it, looking to see what her options were. She grimaced slightly, unsure about what to do. ”We could try it here, but it might be a little risky.” Dom raised a challenging eyebrow. ”See that ledge over there?” she pointed. ”I think we could make it to that ledge and climb to the roof ... but what do you think?” Dom was definitely willing to try, but she didn’t want to force Riley into anything he was uncomfortable with. She was sure they could find another place if necessary.

“Yeah that’s probably a fair account.” Riley laughed when she said that she could take credit for about 98% of his practice. The other two percent could be credited to having to run from the common room at the top of the castle to any of his classes below if he managed to forget his book or his tie, which happened more often than not, even for the organized and normally on-top-of-it Ravenclaw man. Recently though, He had been rushing around to meet Kinsey and tried to spend as little time a possible retrieving things when he was supposed to meet her back in the common room, so he credited a small portion of it to her also. Once they made it to the tower, both began to realize that this wasn’t going to be as easy as they might have expected it to be at first. She pointed out a ledge that she thought they could get onto and them climb up and asked if he wanted to try it. “What’s the worst that can happen?” He nodded with a smile. He could see that there was a drop, however, it wasn’t too crazy of a gap between the two and he had more faith in the two of them than to fall through the gap. “Want me to go first? Or do you want to take the lead?” he asked.

Dom laughed, a mischievous glint in her eye when Riley asked what was the worst that could happen. ”Well ... seeing as how I have no intention of scaring you off before we even start, I’m not going to tell you.” She winked before turning her attention back to the ledge. Riley asked who should go first and Dom laughed again, spinning to look back at him. ”When do I ever go second, Riley,” she asked in a teasing voice, reaching over to tap his shoulder a bit. Then she backed up a little and ran to the edge of the tower, jumping up onto the handrail and leaping to the ledge, landing easily. She looked up, smiling and nodding when she saw that there were quite a few handholds. The castle wall wasn’t smooth, instead the bricks were uneven, making climbing it perfect. ”This isn’t bad at all,” she told Riley, climbing up the wall smoothly and easily. It took a minute or two for her to reach the top, where she pulled herself up onto the roof. She sat down and turned to look at her friend. ”Your turn,” she waved her wand and summoned the picnic basket to her so Riley wouldn’t worry about it.

As expected. Dom went first, she crossed to the other platform without much of a problem and while Riley wasn’t really scared or nervous to begin with, it was nice to see that it was safe and wasn’t really a big deal or something to worry about. Riley watched as the older Ravenclaw climbed the castle wall and pulled herself onto the roof above. It didn’t look difficult and she hadn’t even slipped once, so he really felt himself relax about the whole thing. She summoned up the basket and then insisted it was his turn. He followed what she had done, running and leaping and landing easily on the platform, wondering if anyone down below had managed to see what they were doing. He almost looked down but decided instead to wait until he had finished his climb before looking down. Riley found the uneven bricks and used them to work his own way up the wall. He got to the top and hoisted himself over onto the roof. Interesting. This was a view he hadn’t seen before, he wondered if anyone else had ever come up here before. “Well, that wasn’t too bad.” he said with a laugh, sitting down.

Dom watched, proud of her best friend as he moved smoothly, following her example and soon joining her on the roof. It was perfect. Honestly, she didn’t imagine that it would be so easy for them to find a way to climb onto the roof of the castle, but in a way she was glad that it was. Now, instead of having to find a more creative way to get here, she could just relax and eat and enjoy the rest of the afternoon with Riley. ”Not bad at all,” she teased once he joined her. ”Now let’s eat a bit. I’m starved!” Dom opened the basket and pulled out a roll, starting to eat it immediately as she winked at her best friend. They spent hours there, eating and talking and enjoying the view together. Eventually, long after night fell, they left their spot on the roof and snuck back to the Ravenclaw common room without getting caught. Perfect.
