Ev didn't have practice today, which was why she found herself wandering around Diagon Alley. She wasn't really sure where she wanted to go today, but she was looking for some sort of a distraction. Things still weren't the way she wanted them to be with Dustin, which was part of the reason she had to walk around instead of staying at her apartment. She was still having a hard time. After the breakup with Rocco and her fallout with Dustin, Ev felt like she was living in a blur. She lived for the days when she had practice; they gave her something to look forward to and a way to get her energy out. Other than that, she read books and watched movies and wandered London, muggle and magical. She started talking to a few people, like Ella, but Ev didn't reach out to many people. She had a hard time trusting herself around people. So she wandered around, looking in the windows but not going into any shops. After a little bit, she sat down on a bench and tried to relax.

Another day, another walk. Benji was not.. in the greatest mood today. He was trying to pick up his spirits by getting some fresh air, maybe buying some new stylish robes. That would make him feel better. Or some products from the joke shop, that would work too. Or to talk to that cute girl on that bench. Benji was good at talking to strangers. it was part of his job. He was also good at reading people, also his job, and this woman didn't seem to be the most upbeat right now... maybe she could use a friend. He was good at that, too. Being a friend. He moved to the bench and sat down, bending his knee and resting his ankle on his other knee so that his leg was like a desk in front of him. He rested his elbows on it and clicked his tongue. "Nice day, innit?"@evelyn

Evelyn was definitely not expecting anyone to join her on the bench. Sure, if any of her fans noticed her, they might stop and ask for an autograph or something, but for someone to sit beside her and start talking? She had no idea how to respond to that. The guy seemed completely at ease, like they were old friends, or at least like he did this type of thing frequently. Maybe it was some kind of a joke. She glanced around to see if anyone was paying any attention to them, but it didn't seem like anyone was. Probably not a joke then. She gave a short nod to his question then hesitated. Wasn't she supposed to be trying to make friends? She should try to be nice to him. "Yeah, I guess so," she eventually answered noncommittally, expecting him to leave when he realized what kind of mood she was in.

She nodded and after a moment she agreed with him, not entirely enthusiastically. He nodded a little too, pursing his lips and looking up at the sky. "Good for a bit of flying, I think," no, he didn't recognized her. He was not really a follower of Quidditch. He probably would be more into it if he had friends playing, but he didn't really have that experience with school, since he was homeschooled, so he didn't really care. "What brings you to the alley today?" he asked, turning toward her again. Benji was wearing one of his favorite flat-rimmed caps, which aided him in looking more laid back, he thought. @evelyn

She wasn’t looking at him, hoping the guy would leave her alone if she didn’t say anything. Then he mentioned flying. She turned to look at him quickly, her eyes sharp and inspecting, but he was looking at the sky and not her. Did he not know who she was? She hesitated, ”Sure, it’s a nice enough day.” She honestly had no idea how to handle this guy. He didn’t know her at all, but he seemed determined to talk to her and Ev couldn’t fathom why. She looked away from him, looking down the alley and trying to seem disinterested. She wasn’t interested, after all. Just ... confused. Then he asked another question. Why wouldn’t he just leave? ”Nothing really,” Ev was going to leave it at that, but she didn’t. ”Just wandering. You?” Wait. Why did she ask him that?

She agreed again that the day was nice. She didn't really seem interested in having a conversation and Benji didn't want to intrude but... she seemed legitimately sad, and he felt bad about that. But he wouldn't bug her if she did decided to make it firmly clear she didn't want a friend. But she was still talking, saying that she wasn't really here for anything specific, just wandering. But then she said 'you?', as in she wanted to be a part of this conversation, right? Benji shrugged, "it's my day off, thought I'd take a walk. Having an off day, wanted to get some fresh air and maybe get something from the joke shop," he chuckled, "that always seems to cheer me up."@evelyn

He started talking about how it was his day off and he wanted to walk around, maybe go to the joke shop. Ev looked over at him curiously ”Where do you work?” she didn’t know why she was talking to him, but she was. Might as well become a part of the conversation instead of making him do it all. Then she added softly, ”I’ve never gone into the joke shop ...” Of course, she knew the shop he was talking about. The Weasley one. Everyone talked about it, but it didn’t really seem interesting to her. Not many books, so why would she be interested?

"I work at the Gambling Galleons Casino in Horizon Alley?" he explained, posing it as a question to sort of ask if she knew what that was. Then she said that she had never gone into the joke shop and his jaw dropped slightly. "No way?" he could not believe it. He stood and brushed off his clothes, then gestured toward the joke ship, "come with me? I'm sure we'll find something you'll think is cool," he promised, "there is something for everyone there," he believed that, too. He knew the history of Weasley's. The shop was made as a light in dark times, there would be something for everyone. @evelyn

Ev nodded when he told her where he worked. ”I’ve seen the place,” she answered. She’d never gone in, but she knew where it was. His shock at her never going into the joke shop was highly amusing, though she only allowed a thin smile on her face. He seemed nice, but she still didn’t know him. He stood up and asked her to come with him, saying that he was sure they could find something she’d like. Ev hesitates, but then nodded. ”Okay, that you’ll have to prove to me.” She didn’t necessarily think he was wrong but that was a strong claim to make. Evelyn rose to her feet, ”Lead the way ... uh, what’s your name?” Ev hesitates, just now realizing she didn’t know who he was.

She said she had seen the place but that didn't mean she had experienced it, of course. She said that he would have to prove it, after a little hesitation, and he grinned. "Oh! Yes, call me Benji. And yours?" he asked, starting to walk and lead her toward the joke shop. He knew names were important, sure, but he made a lot of friends first without knowing their names right away. Sometimes it was just easier to get into the action and deal with semantics later. At work, though, he knew everyone's names immediately. The joke shop wasn't far, and soon they were stepping inside. The bright colors and loud noises felt homey to him and he sighed contentedly. "Such a brilliant place. My friends father owns it," he explained. Obviously that meant Fred Weasley, but he didn't like to assume everyone knew everyone, even the Weasleys. @evelyn

He was so ... enthusiastic. Honestly, Ev didn't really understand that, but whatever. He said his name was Benji and she nodded. "I'm Evelyn." Or Ev, but not many people called her that. Only her parents and friends, which didn't really consist of many people. Why was she making this so weird?
He seemed happy when they reached the joke shop and Ev watched him a little curiously. Then he talked about the owner and her eyebrows lifted a little. So he was friends with one of the Weasleys. Well, that didn't seem particularly hard. They were nice, from most things she'd heard, and there were a lot of them. So being one of their friends shouldn't be too hard. She shrugged as she glanced around the store, not seeing anything that caught her eye initially. "Okay. So what's so great about this place?" Ev did speak in a softer voice than normal, not really wanting to offend anyone.

Evelyn. Great. Perfect. He nodded, committing it to memory. Then they were in the shop and she was quiet, as he expected. She watched him, and then asked what was so great about it. her voice was soft but his was most certainly not. "Everything! It's all about happiness and fun. Let's start here," he waved her toward him, crossing to a shelf of bright pink and purple little fluffball creatures. "Pigmy Puffs. Adorable little things. They are cute, snuggly and soft. What could be better?" he said, reaching up to grab a purple one and holding it out to her, "just look at that face!"@evelyn

Ev jumped a little when Benji started answering her question, saying that everything was great about this store. It was fun and happy. She smiled slightly- it was hard not to when he was so enthusiastic- but she wasn't quite sure she agreed with him. She liked things that got her adrenaline going or that got her learning (like books). Honestly, Ev didn't think she would find either of those here. Still, she followed Benji as he made his way to fluffy little creatures. He named them Pigmy Puffs and lifted one up. Ev laughed softly, and then took the creature. It was kind of cute, in a strange little way. "Okay, I'll give you that, it is cute." And soft. Ev liked how soft it was. Maybe she would want one of these- wait, no. She couldn't give in so quickly. "I like the Pigmy Puff, but what else do you have here?" she asked.

She was smiling a little, good. Good, good. Smiles were great. She laughed at the sight of the puff and took it from his hands, agreeing that it was cute. She said she liked it, asking what else they had. He grinned, "why don't you just carry our little friend around the store with us. They like to look at the stuff. If you want to put it down they have plenty of pens all over," he explained, starting to walk deeper into the store. He pointed up ahead, "there's a second level with a pretty rad shelf of counter jinxes to all the stuff down here," he explained, "good pranks need extra help getting removed, I'm afraid," he chuckled then pointed to a nearby shelf, stepping up to it. "Now these are brilliant. Mini windmills," he explained, picking one up. They just looked like those pinwheels you get at a fair or circus and blow on them to spin it, "different ones do different things, like this blue one," he lifted the one he was holding, "if you stick it in the ground and spin it, it will suck the water from the ground like a straw and spray it everywhere! Like a sprinkler!"

Benji was grinning at her as she looked at the Pigmy Puff and that in and of itself made her want to put it down, just to prove him wrong, but when he suggested she carry it around with her, Ev nodded slowly. She wanted to. The thing was soft and ... somewhat comforting as she held it. She didn't say anything though, not wanting to admit that he knew what he was talking about. Blast it all, why did he know what he was talking about? She followed him as he wandered around the store, pointing and explaining things and laughing as he did so. She followed him up to the windmills, looking at them curiously. Then she smiled, a little wider this time as he explained more about it. "All right, that actually seems pretty cool. What else can they do?" Something about his enthusiasm for this place was drawing her in, making Ev feel more interested than she ever thought she'd be here.
