Lance had no idea how today had come to be. He had been wandering around Diagon Alley yesterday, minding his own business and trying to find something to do while Georgie was gone on her vacation, when a girl he had never met before decided to get up in his face. The strangest part about it was that she was also an American, and like some of the other chance encounters he had as of late, Lance had found himself becoming something like an informant. He had figured that the influx of American kids his age was probably due to the end of the tournament and vacation lining up perfectly. It was strange to think that for once in his life, he could have used this opportunity to escape on his own trip of sorts – he could pretend to be a no-maj and go all over Europe, maybe even home for a while. Visiting Barbara and the family was never going to happen with his sister at his side, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t go see his old hometown.
Unfortunately none of that was happening because he had other important things going on, like the band, and apparently showing this girl he had met yesterday around London. Lance didn’t think he was particularly the best person for it, but she had seemed rather insistent that he do it. Seeing as he didn’t have plans for anything else today, reasoning with her logic wasn’t all that difficult. Currently he was camped out against a wall a few blocks away from a museum that they were supposed to be visiting soon. The girl, her name was Katherine, had said something about liking math and the only thing he knew that was no-maj and math related was the Science Museum in South Kensington. It was free admittance, which to him was graciously accepted, and he was sure Katherine wouldn’t have any objections to that.
Normally he probably would have had Georgie tag along as well, but that would have posed two problems: she more than likely wouldn’t have enjoyed Katherine’s personality and this outing never would have been planned in the first place if his sister had been with him while arranging it. He couldn’t blame her though, she tended to know what was best quite often, and Lance trusted her gut more than his own at times. But Georgie wasn’t here and he was bored out of his mind. Plus it was finally a way to meet an American student that could fill him in on all the things he had missed by going to Hogwarts instead.
