Diana had been having a very, very bad few months. BUt, to be fair, she'd been having a very bad year in general. Ever since all of this started with Elaine. And all of her hardships and trials during the past year, and especially the past few months, could be connected back to Elaine in some way. Then there was her new employment at Gringotts and the fact that she was basically having to try and avoid Irina, a formerly very close friend of hers.... Because she knew Irina would figure out something was very, very off about Diana. She'd question why she did things. She'd stick her neck out, and Elaine would snuff her out without a second thought. Now a days, there was truly only one person she felt someone comfortable around and that was DOminic, if only because of how close they were but because he knew she was among the Purifiers. THough... He didn't know all the details... And she still couldn't tell him everything.
Like what had been nagging at her consience for weeks. The ships and carriage. He didn't know that she'd been the one to plant the explosives. That while Elaine had been behind it, all that blood was on her hands. And no matter how hard she tried she could wash them clean or lift that overwhelming burden off her shoulders.
But, he could help her forget about it for a minute. Today was her and Cara's birthday. Diana had almost completely forgotten and only remembered when her sister mentioned going out to a movie with Dominic. The boy had a complicated relationship with multiple members of the Bainbridge family, but none new about her and him... And they liked it that way. IT made days like this difficult though, because Cara demanded his attention and there was nothing she could do about it. Just wait it out.
Which is what she did, having sent an owl to him early that morning to ask if he'd want to meet up late that night. At 'their' spot. It was a park, but that wasn't really their spot. Their spot happened to be the rooftop of an old abandoned shed. THey'd watched so many fireworks shows and star gazed up there that the spot felt like home. Despite being able to apparate outside school Diana still preferred to climb, pulling herself up onto the weather beaten and familiar roof. And once there, she took a slow deep breath and sat down, her legs bent and close to her chest as she stared out at the park grounds. Most people were gone or leaving, disappearing about as quickly as the sun was setting.

Dom had thoroughly enjoyed the new Star Wars movie with Cara for her birthday, but now it was time to meet up with Diana. She had owled him that morning and he quickly sent a reply, agreeing to meet her in their spot on the shed that night. As much fun as he had with Cara, he had a feeling that Diana needed him right now. She had been... strange the last few months, especially since the explosions. It made sense, to be mourning after so many people died -- not that he really mourned for them. People died, that was that, and there was a reason for it. Elaine was making a statement, and he was one of them now.
So was Diana, though, which still didn't add up to him.
He reached the shed, looking up before climbing the usual way. She was already there and he grinned, slinging his backpack off his back. "It's not New Years, but I brought the sparkling cider anyway," he said. He remembered their first time up there, when they kissed at midnight because that was the tradition. They were so young then, and so many things were different but somehow everything between them had stayed the same.
@diana (I thiiink we decided that kiss was canon? XD)

Diana turned her head as she heard someone begin to climb the shed, spotting that large grin and a shadow of her own smile responding. Maybe some day she'd feel like her old self. She'd feel normal and happy again. But now wasn't that time, and she hadn't felt it for a while. But hey, at least she'd finally managed to get her appearance less... depressed looking. She hadn't been able to change her appearance for some time, but she didn't look like a ghost anymore. Progress.
At the mention of New Years the girl chuckled a little and shook her head. They had a tradition that many people wouldn't understand. At least not in the friendship way. But it worked for them, and had for years. Diana didn't actually know how long they planned on keeping it up but for now... SHe didn't want to think that far ahead. "We drinking it from the bottle or cups?" She asked back, not really opposed to either idea. When you kissed a person, and they happened to be your best friend you tended to stop caring about germs and such.
(Yeah, we did haha ) @dominic

He hated that she didn't smile back, at least not fully. He knew something was up with her... obviously, considering that crying moment in the library. He was still ready to kill whoever was responsible, if he could ever figure out who it was. For now, though, he hoped they could just enjoy being there and trying to have a nice night for her birthday. She asked if they were drinking from the bottle or cups and he grimaced a little, "oooh, forgot the cups. Bottle it is!" he said, setting it in between them. He leaned back on his elbows, looking up toward the sky. "So, do we celebrate your old age or mourn it?" he asked, teasing but also keeping his eyes on the sky. It was hard to think about her being all graduated. @diana

That half smile of hers didn't go away as he grimaced and admitted to forgetting the cups. "Since when do we need them?" She asked in return. When you kissed someone (though it was only because kissing was a New Years tradition world wide) you sort of stopped caring about that sort of thing. Plus, she'd never been a germaphobic. He took up a stop between them and she finally looked away from him and skyward, taking in the darkening sky at the same moment as her friend. Her posture was far less relaxed, her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms loosely wrapped around them. "I don't know." was her serious answer, despite the teasing nature of his question. Being done with school had it's perks, but it also brought quite a few... complications. Elaine now had free reign to make Diana do whatever she wanted, no questions asked. She didn't have to be wary about Diana's status at Hogwarts. Diana was dreading it. Every single day there was that growing and overwhelming fear. That Elaine would choose that day to finally take full advantage of her new freedom. Living in a constant state of fear was not a very pleasant experience. Plus, Professor Kamuntu wasn't around as much. IT would be harder to meet with her mentor. She wouldn't be able to see Dominic whenever she wanted. There were plenty of problems with this whole adulthood thing...
But Dominic couldn't know about most of those problems.
So, forcing herself to finally fully smile she lowered her gaze and looked at her dear friend. "Just think. Only one more year and you'll be joining me in the outside world. Think you can survive?" Her forced tease sounded light hearted but it was an effort to get out.

Dominic chuckled as she spoke about them never needed the cups. That was a good point, really. They had kissed and were best friends, what was the point in being careful about using cups? He opened the bottle as she turned away to look back up at the sky, but he kept his eyes on her. Her knees were pulled up to her chest and he sat close, bending his own knees to do the same and pressing his shoulder against hers. He had been... careful about physical touch with her since the revelation in the library. He wasn't sure how she was feeling about that sort of thing, which bothered him. He wanted to know everything she was feeling.
She said she didn't know about celebrating or mourning her age, but she wasn't kidding. He held the bottle in his hand on the opposite side of him than where she was, opened but not drinking from it. He furrowed his brow at her, and she smiled and looked back to him. His eyes fixed into hers. She asked if he could survive the next year, but before she even finished the sentence he spoke - "No." Then she finished and he sighed, "no," he said again, his voice softer. "Let's just enjoy the night," he said, trying to shake it off.
