@hadley This was the second time that Lily had entered her name and information into the Blishwick blind date thing. The first time had been for fun; to meet someone interesting and just have fun, despite already having the thing going on with Adrian. He wouldn’t have cared anyways. This time though, was because she felt at a loss of what to do. Getting out and taking her mind off of everything had been the goal for the last few months since getting out of school. There weren’t too many people holding her back either. So the half of paper with her name and interests scribbled on it was sent back to the matchmaking service in order to be set up with a blind date again. The first one had never actually gone through because she had been silly and forgotten about it, despite the intent to go and have fun with a new person. That wasn’t going to happen this time, so she waited patiently for the response back about who she would be going on the date with, and where it would be.
When a new letter came back to her within a few days, it omitted her date’s name. She was however given a time and location, as well as the event that they were going to be completing as part of the whole thing. Kayaking on the Thames. To be honest, she had fully expected to have a sit down dinner at a fancy restaurant or something like that; she always imagined that a first date, especially a blind one, was going to be like that. This was the complete opposite of that though and much more up her alley. Physical activity and teamwork wasn’t only a great way to distract her, but it would be a good in order to learn about her date. Nothing was better than being isolated out in the middle of the water with another person, trying to figure out how to get back to shore. Their specific time was set for night, as it was a nighttime kayak tour. When Lily arrived, there was a guide and a few other people milling about, none of who looked remotely magical. Standing near the back of the group, she assumed that whoever her date was had either already arrived and was looking for her as well, or had yet to show. Eventually they would find each other though, because they had to be in the same kayak, and as far as she could tell, those had already been assigned to the various groups participating.

Lee wasn’t sure how he was feeling that day about the whole date thing. He had filled out his application when he was having a more feminine day, as Hallie, but time had passed since then and now he was definitely not feeling feminine. He hoped that whoever Blishwick had put him with would be okay with whatever gender he happened to be, because otherwise, this date could get really awkward, really fast. Luckily, Lee’s date wasn’t going to be more awkward than it had to be, because he wasn’t going to be expected to act like a normal human being while eating some stupid dinner around people who acted like they had sticks up their butts. Instead, Lee was going to get to kayak down the River Thames. Surprisingly, he’d never been kayaking before, but the basic premise of it seemed to be in line with his training to be a superhero. Lee didn’t mind physical activity at all, so this was definitely better than the alternative.
The kayak tour that he was going on was at night, which was a little weird. Lee thought that whoever had organized the date probably thought that a night tour would be more romantic or something like that. Romance was not his first priority – he just wanted to meet someone cool, and maybe kiss them if he felt like it. Finding a soulmate? That was for boring, serious people, and Lee was neither of those things. A bunch of people were milling around near the river, and Lee surveyed the crowd, trying to pick out who his date would be. He raised his eyebrows when he saw a flash of red hair, and a familiar face. Lily Potter was the year above him in school, and it made sense that she would go to Blishwick, since practically everyone in the wizarding world did. Lee sidled over. “Hey.” He said. “You here for a blind date?”

@hadley Trying to peak through the crowd of kayakers on the beach was basically impossible. She had found out once arriving that they seemed to be a group of extremely tall, Swedish basketball players. How they were going to fit in the kayaks wasn’t going to be her problem though. Since they spoke little to no English and were more intrigued about the tiny size of the vessels they were trying to climb into, figuring out who her date was would hopefully be much easier than she had initially thought, and for them to find her. A tiny redhead set up against a line of giant blonde men was easy to locate. Looking for a magical person was ten times easier when silly muggles were around than it was while somewhere like Diagon Alley, because then it could literally be anyone. Waiting for a few minutes, she rocked back and forth between her heels and the balls of her feet. There hadn’t been a ton of physical activity lately so she was itching to get out on the wall and do some paddling. From the looks of the kayaks, there were ones suited for two people, or for individuals. The Swedish basketball players all needed the single kayaks due to their size, so it was starting to look like she was going to be stuck with a double once her date arrived. That was fine with her, more fun being stuck together anyways.
Lost in thought about how long she would be out on the water, Lily’s daydreaming was interrupted by a voice from a person that had walked up next to her, asking if she was here for the blind date. “Yes!” she answered automatically, before even turning around to look at them. As she did so, she tilted her head to the side. Something was familiar about this person, but she couldn’t place it. “Sorry…I totally recognize your face, but I’ve forgotten your name,” Lily admitted, scrunching up her nose. This was kind of embarrassing.

Lily Potter was indeed his blind date, which was kind of cool. She seemed like a fun person to be around most of the time, though things had changed a little in the last few months of school. Lee chalked it up to stress – it seemed like everyone got stressed about their exams instead of thinking of them as just another enemy to conquer. School was Lee’s worst enemy, though – an arch nemesis, some might say. Lily said she recognized him, but didn’t recall his name, which Lee thought was probably for the better. He wasn’t in the closet by any stretch of the word, but it still confused some people when he explained the whole multiple genders, multiple names thing, and that wasn’t the easiest way to start a date. At least she recognized him, so he didn’t feel like some underling in the Gryffindor tower – that was a different rant for a different day, but if at this time next year everyone in Gryffindor didn’t know his name, Lee was going to be very upset indeed. “Lee Barbados.” He introduced with a smile. It wasn’t their normal blinding grin, but Lee figured that a more subdued approach might be better for a first date, and he could slowly ramp it up if he and Lily it off. And if they didn’t hit it off, she would find out when school started that he was a force to be reckoned with. “I’m the year below you, in Gryffindor.” He explained quickly. He considered throwing in something about how she might know him as Hadley or Hallie, but then that brought up the whole explaining problem he had been trying to avoid. “You ever been kayaking before?” Lee asked pleasantly.

@hadley Usually names didn’t escape her, at least not the names of fellow Gryffindors. This was bad, because she definitely didn’t remember this guy. Lee Barbados. The name echoed through her head. If there had been any specific memories associated with a Lee Barbados, sixth year Gryffindor, they should have been popping up like little light bulbs. Nope. There was nothing. Luckily she was Lily Potter though, and that meant a certain level of improvisation came with everything she did. She could fake it until she had a few more details about this dude, and then roll with the punches to make it a fun date. “That’s right! Sorry. My head has been really preoccupied with stuff lately,” she trailed off, distorting her mouth enough to avoid frowning. This was going to be a happy day, not another one of those crappy ones she had been having lately. Getting into all of that would definitely ruin it in a matter of seconds. This was her escape, and she was going to do her best to keep it that way.
Lee asked if she had ever been kayaking before, and Lily began to shake her head, only to turn it into a nod halfway through. She had forgotten about that one time! “A long time ago. Don’t think I was much help when it came to paddling, but that won’t happen today. Promise,” she returned his smile. Today was for blowing off steam and pent up stress. The almost perfect activity for it too. “What about you?” she asked as she turned to head towards what she assumed was their kayak. “Or are you one of those crazy people that takes to swimming with the giant squid at school?” Lily teased, laughing as she remembered the last time she had encountered Squiddy, her favorite of Hogwarts’ potentially killer creatures.
