It had almost been a month since Ophelia had discovered her power of empathic touch, the ability to take away the emotions of someone else at the expense of her energy, giving the other person peace of mind for almost twenty four hours. At least, it must be around that from the times she had used it. She was still trying to get a feel for this power - definitely sometimes it took a LOT more energy out of her than others. Adonia hadn’t been so bad, but Aaron? Aaron had been so bad. She felt so horrible for the man she cared deeply about, and was willing to risk a massive migraine to give him peace of mind. With this new power, Ophie felt like she seemed more in tune with people's emotional states. Perhaps she was just being more perceptive to sense out people who needed her help, but she was finding it easier to figure out which patients she should offer her assistance to first. She had offered to help Viola, but they had declined. She wasn’t sure if Viola’s muteness stemmed from the numbness they were feeling, or if they just needed time to learn how to cope. Whatever it was, Ophelia had seen them angry from a distance, and she didn’t want to get in their way. Speaking of Viola, someone was leaving their room as Ophelia came around the corner, a dark curly haired boy she hadn’t seen before. He looked a little distressed, so Ophelia held up her arms in a stop motion as he came closer. “Are you alright?” she asked him concernedly. “You were visiting Viola, how are they?” she asked quickly as a follow up. @daniel

Dan stepped out of Violas room, honestly feeling a little lost about what emotions were his own. His head was aching. He'd come to mungo's to drop off Maria, and intended on telling Viola he had found her but he didn't. He wasn't sure how to tell any of them. Adonia and Brandon had both been released but Viola will still here. How would they all deal with the news that Maria was not only live, but dealing with memory loss? And that he had found her in a different country? His heart ached and his head hurt even more than that. If that was even possible. He stepped out of the room and walking away, pinching the bridge of his nose as tears started to fill his eyes. What a bad friend he was, not even telling Viola that one of their other classmates had survived. He choked on a sob, and then suddenly there was someone in front of him. He stopped to assure he didn't touch her outstretched hands, eyes wide and red. "Um - they're the same," he said, not knowing how to answer that question. "What do you want?" he meant to sound harsh and protective, over Viola, but it came out higher pitched and more breathy than he liked. Ophelia Mae Teller

Ophelia took in the boy’s appearance; his red rimmed wide eyes, sniffling nose, trembling mouth. He was clearly upset about something, and she couldn’t help but wonder if it had anything to do with the girl they brought in this morning. Being at the Front Desk, Ophelia had watched a few Mediwizards wheel a dark haired, beautiful girl through the hall with a tall figure following, their hood up so she had not seen their face. Perhaps it was this boy that had been that hooded figure; his height was about right, as was his posture. He spoke, and Ophelia’s heart darn near broke for him. He was trying to sound strong, protective of Viola, who was clearly his friend too, but something had troubled him while in their room. “That’s...well, better than worse I suppose,” Ophelia said when he reported they were doing the same as usual. Ophelia hesitated, not sure if she should offer her gift to him; Viola had refused after all, perhaps he shared the same viewpoint as them. But Ophie knew she had been chosen for this destiny for a reason, so she had to ask. “I hope you don’t find me incredibly forward,” she started, rolling her shoulders back a little. “But I have another job here other than being the Welcome Witch; I help others by...taking their emotions, their anguish, their mental pain. It gives them time to feel completely at peace, content and passive for about twenty-four hours, give or take. I’ve been calling in Empathic Touch, but I don’t know if there’s a real name for it - I’ve never met anyone who has any sort of Empathic gift before,” she explained, her words rushed but clear. She hadn’t had great luck using her gift the past few times, so she was worried she’d be run off by this boy as well. @daniel

She said that the same was better than worse, and Dan nodded, but he wasn't really that dedicated to the conversation. He was all ready to leave when the woman started talking again and he froze to listen. She... took... emotions? Bad ones? Woah, woah, completely at peace? Passive? Passive? Twenty-four hours? These words were all swimming through his head and he felt his heart beat start to speed up rapidly, almost to a dangerous point he was sure. She had barely finished before he was taking a step forward and wrapping his arms around her shoulders, pulling her tightly to him in a hug so intense that he had only ever given one like that to Irina. He. Just. Wanted. That. What she had just said. All those things. Ophelia Mae Teller

Ophelia never knew how people would take her revealing her Empathic Touch power to them. In the case of Brandon for example, he had been non-receptive and then when she had made the executive decision to help him anyway he REALLY didn’t like it. Adonia however had been more than receptive to the idea; she was pretty sure the girl would have easily asked for it everyday if she could have. What she was not expecting was for the curly haired boy taking a step forward and wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug. “Oh!” she exclaimed, and gave a giggle as she returned his hug, patting his back gently. She was curious what he could have been going through that didn’t involve hospitalization to make him want her to use her power on him so badly. “Well alright then,” she said jovially as she took a step back. “First off for this to work you need to be holding my hand not my entire body,” she added, though she could totally understand the need for a hug every once in awhile. She beckoned him to follow her to a small room near her hiding place she retreated to after she used her power. “Now, before we begin, is there anything I should know?” she asked, folding her hands in her lap and sitting up straight like a professional healer would do. @daniel

She exclaimed, but nothing happened to his emotions, and he felt a harsh lump in his throat and a heavy weight on his chest. Maybe her abilities didn't work on him. The thought made more tears come out of his eyes. He felt her amusement and her curiosity as she patted his back, but that didn't make him feel any better. If anything he felt much worse. The fact that even her nice feelings weren't helping his mood. he wanted to burst into even more tears. But then she spoke, taking a step away from him and his red eyes fixed on her. She said that he had to hold her hands, and his face flushed in embarrassment. He took a step back, too, but then followed her into a small room. He didn't necessarily like small spaces, but he understood why. Then, she asked if there was anything she should know and he... shook his head. He couldn't even speak. Ophelia Mae Teller

Ophelia felt for him when he looked upset that his hug hadn’t removed whatever jumble of emotions he was feeling at that moment, but he followed her into the room after she explained how it actually worked. “I never say no to a free hug,” she told him with a kind smile. He confirmed he had nothing to divulge that would cause any problems, and Ophelia took a deep breath. “Right then, just sit back, and give me your hands,” she instructed, taking both his hands in hers. She counted backwards from three, and closed her eyes, concentrating inwards to release her power. The warmth she always felt in the beginning started in her center and radiated outwards to her shoulders, arms and fingertips before reaching the young man in front of her. Ophelia twitched as the wall of emotions hit her; she had not experienced something quite like this before. All these...they couldn’t all be his, there was no way. She felt his sorrow, grief and pain of losing people he cared for, worry for a friend that Ophie assumed was likely Viola. She felt an overwhelming sense of love towards a sole person, and she couldn’t help but let a small smile form on her lips. He felt very powerfully towards whoever that was. There were other emotions too, and that was what felt a little overwhelmed. No wonder this boy had hugged her so fiercely when she had mentioned her ability. She was just getting wisps of these feelings as they left him, which was also odd. As she finished, she gasped, suddenly realizing something. “You're..” she began, but then a piercing pain struck her head like lightning. She whimpered slightly, grabbing her head with her hands. “Lie down,” she managed to get out, stumbling out of her chair and just making her way into the darkened room before passing out on the twin bed. @daniel

She said that she wouldn't say no to a free hug and he almost grimaced. He'd always say no to a free hug. Still, he understood what she meant. Then, they were sitting and she was reaching her fingers out to him and he hesitated... but then slowly reached out until their hands were touching. He winced, expecting to feel all of her emotions come flying at him, but... that didn't happen. It felt like she was a vacuum, and all of his emotions were being sucked out of him. His and everyone elses. He closed his eyes and... slowly he started to laugh, just a little at first but then she let go and he opened his eyes, staring at her. She clutched her head and told him to lie down, running out. He felt... nothing. Not even sorry for putting her in pain, not even relieved. It was like he didn't exist. And it was wonderful.
