Callisto was in one of the break rooms at Mungos, grinning like and idiot at a piece of parchment in her hands. Shawn had been writing her letters due to being 'bored'. She preferred letters over other forms of communication. She wasn't a big fan of too much touch, and it was hard to get her feelings out when face to face often times. Writing was easier for her and she was often tempted to do just do that... But Shawn rules that out, and it wouldn't be practical.
She looked up from her letter to see one of the trainees standing nearby. She nodded in greeting and looked back down at her letter.

TIA WAS STARING, SHE KNEW SHE WAS. Standing in the doorway to the break room, an apple gripped so tight in her hands that it was beginning to bruise. Callisto Oliveira was a healer in St. Mungo's, and a fantastic one at that. So much so that Tia admired her. Tia admired very few people, she rarely managed to look beyond her own nose some days. But, at St. Mungo's this was beginning to change. So many great healers. So much for her to learn.
When Callisto looked up from the piece of parchment in her hand, Tia jolted, her heels lifting from the ground as she shuffled in to the break room at an awkward speed. But, all Callisto did was nod before lowering her head once more. Tia was still flushed, though, as she took a place at a table not to far from where Callisto had taken up shop. Her apple was warm now, a little battered with the imprint of four fingers and a thumb around it.
"It's... it's Callisto, right?" Tia said, as if she didn't already know. "You're a healer." It felt dumb even as she said it, but Tia wasn't exactly the poster child of social niceties. "I'm training to be a Mediwitch," She added, a hand pressing against her chest. "Tia." Holding out a hand as if to shake Callisto's.

The girl sat and Callisto read the rest of the letter, trying not to let her smile take over her face... but that was a fail. Callisto rarely smiled, so anyone in the room who knew her well would think she had been possessed or something. She finished the letter, folded it up, and then heard her name. She turned to face the trainee girl, Tia, as she introduced. She nodded to confirm her own name, accepting the handshake. "Nice to meet you, Tia," she said. Her handshake was firm and short, Callisto didn't waste time and was a very no-nonsense person. She still had a hint of that stupid smile from Shawns letter and she lifted it a little, "it's- uh - my... Shawn," she said, then shook her head and placed the letter in her pocket, "afraid I've lost my head a bit," she cleared her throat, straightening up. "Do you know Rory Williams, the Mediwizard? He's very talented, I'm sure he'd love to tell you about the work... you were in Ravenclaw, am I right?" Callisto had been in Ravenclaw, of course, and even though she was really focused on her studies she still recognized some people from her school days, even if they were younger than her.

CALLISTO'S HANDSHAKE WAS BEFITTING OF HER CHARACTER. Brief but firm; impersonal. Tia found it in line with everything she had assumed of the healer so far. Which is to say, not very much. She hadn't really spoken to her beyond a patient. In the informal backdrop of the break room, Tia found herself slightly nervous.
But, Callisto was almost dreamy as their hands broke apart, the hint of that same smile she had worn while reading her letter. 'Her Shawn' she called them. "Somebody special?" Tia asked with a thin smile, mostly because it sounded like something she was supposed to say.
"It-it's totally fine." Tia said, crossing her leg in an attempt to appear casual. "I interrupted you. I just- I really admire your work- I mean, you're healing. It's impressive." Tia blew out a breath and laughed nervously. Callisto was just one of many talented healers at St. Mungo's. Sometimes Tia felt out of place. At the bottom of a hierarchy she was yet to fully comprehend.
"R-o-r-y." Tia drew out the name, struck dumb for a second before it clicked, "oh! Roman-Rory, right. I shadow him a lot, he's my superior." Tia explained, curling a strand of hair around her ear. "He is," she agreed. Tia hadn't really spoken to 'Rory' beyond a professional capacity. She didn't mind the quiet, and she wasn't about to reach out like a friend. She had trouble crossing any social boundary. Even this particular interaction cost Tia something. "Ravenclaw, yeah. What house were you in?" Tia said with a nod.

Tia asked if Shawn was somebody special and Callisto sighed, "or something," she said gruffly, not sure if she wanted to talk about Shawn with someone she barely knew. She had brought it up, though, but she could easily end the conversation there, so she gave a nod as if to close it off, to punctuate it.
Tia said that it was fine that Callisto lost her head, then added that she admired her work, and Callistos eyebrow raised. She sat up just a little more, not that there was much more she could do with her posture. It was almost always meticulously straight. "Thank you, Tia," Callisto said, leaning forward just slightly to rest her forearms on the table. "I do take great pride in it, as you should too," all healers should, she thought.
Then Tia thought about Rory, saying his full first name, and Callisto realized that would have been a better way to explain who he was. Cal nodded, glad that Tia was working with her friend. Tia agreed Rory was talented. "He's taught me a thing or two, even," she said with another nod. Then Tia confirmed she was indeed in Ravenclaw. "Ravenclaw as well," she answered, proudly. "I rather enjoyed Hogwarts, but was much happier to continue my education here."

TIA WAS VERY PROUD OF WHAT SHE DID FOR A LIVING. And she wanted to be the best. There was no question about that. And that meant playing close attention to other healers, especially ones like Callisto.
"I do." Tia said with conviction, replying to Callisto telling her she should take pride in her work. It was a given for Tia. Why would she do a job she couldn't take pride in? Her ego just wouldn't allow that.
Talking about Roman/Rory reminded Tia that she wasn't 'friends' with any of her colleagues. Work was work, and she left the people there behind every day when she clocked out. Mingling personal with professional wasn't a natural occurrence for her. "He's a great teacher," She said candidly, not even a compliment to her but a statement of fact. She wouldn't admire him if he wasn't. To think he'd taught Callisto something was strange, she couldn't imagined either of them as students in the field. Not at all.
As for schooling, Tia found herself disagreeing with Callisto. "Really?" She said, frowning slightly. She loved learning at St. Mungo's, but she didn't savour it. It was simply a means to a bigger end. She wanted to be the best and she had to learn to get there. Being a student was an unfortunate counterpart. At Hogwarts, it was different, that was the place Tia most enjoyed learning. Perhaps it was the environment. Or maybe because it was the place that made her something more. She didn't know.
"I love healing, but I'm... more than ready to be done being an intern." Tia admitted, chipping at a grove in the table top with the stubby nail of her pointer finger. "I guess it's because I didn't know I wanted to be a healer at Hogwarts," Tia explained, brow wrinkled as she thought about it. "Here, I know what I want. I'm... impatient for it." She said with a wry smile.

Tia was very convincing in her declaration that she too took pride in her work here. Tia confirmed that Rory was a great teacher and Callisto nodded, but something felt... Off. This girl reminded Tia a lot of herself when she first started. All business, so impersonal. The conversation had started personal enough, but something still reminded Callisto of herself. It made her kind of... Sad, and nostalgic for a time when she was like that. Things were a lot easier when she avoided making friends and wasn't in love, or something like it. She blamed Brandon for this.
Tia seemed surprised that Callisto liked learning here, and added that she was on a hurry to be done training because she knew what she wanted. "You're never going to stop learning. Whether you're an intern or not. The title means nothing," Callisto said firmly, "you always have to be elastic, ready for new information. The healing techniques are always developing. If you stop thinking of yourself as a student, you will fail." Callisto didn't leave any room for interrupting. Tia needed to learn this lesson as early as possible.

TIA ADMITTING SHE WAS IMPATIENT WAS A RARE DISPLAY OF COMPLETE HONESTY. She didn't have many friends, and revealing that she was tired of being an intern had been a breach in what was usually a tight drum of emotions for Tia. She hated losing her cool, or showing weakness. What she hadn't meant was that she was done learning, so to have Callisto firmly declare that felt almost like she was being reprimanded.
Tia's spine straightened and she felt her forehead wrinkle. "I know that." She said, but it sounded a tad petulant to her own ears. "I just meant that patients don't always take interns seriously." She explained hurriedly. "Or other healers. We're... tadpoles." It was a feeling Tia often felt, not as a singular objective from others, but more an internal anxiety. "I never want to stop improving. I want to be the best." She said firmly, sitting up straight.
"But I disagree," She said riskily. Knowing that doing so to a superior could earn her an enemy, but being unable to hold her tongue anyway. "Titles mean everything," She said with conviction, licking her lips before going on to further explain. "Maybe not in terms of capability or dedication, but those are things you can't always see." Shaking her head, she knew she was frowning hard now, though she wasn't upset. More impassioned. "If I want to be better, I need to be able to do both. Be a full time mediwitch, and keep learning."
Shrugging, Tia ran out of steam and cut away her vision. Looking over to one side as if to forget the verbal diatribe she'd unleashed. She didn't know Callisto, admired Callisto as a healer. By revealing so much she opened herself up to criticism. Of which she wasn't unwilling to take, but knew would sting coming from her.

Tia said she knew that, her tone making Callisto want to chuckle. She nodded, understanding what the girl meant. "Yes, and it'll be nice to take the consequences for your actions instead of your trainer taking it," she added. Tia said she wanted to be the best, which struck a cord with Callisto. Cal also wanted to be the best. Tia added that she disagreed, that titles meant everything. But as Tia spoke Callisto smiled, chuckling. "Still, not everything or nothing. I think you'll do just fine around here as long as you remember the improving part," she said, offering a nod. She stood, offering her hand to Tia one more time, "I hope to see you around more, Tia. I think you'll do well here," she said, before getting back to work. @tia (the end)
