Aerick, for once in his life he felt, had the night off, the first in a three day in a row mini vacation. He had forgotten what it felt like to actually be awake during the daylight hours, and sleep in his own bed at night! The owner of Club Indigo had always been a tough scheduler, but recently he had disappeared from public view, and Elaine had hired two of her own lackeys to tend bar so that her more proven followers, such as Aerick, could have more time off. Aerick was suspicious as to Alastor’s actual whereabouts, but he was not stupid enough to question the Dark Mistress, or a few extra days off. Of course, his first instinct was that he wanted to spend time with Clodagh, but sadly they had not found a solution to her little rodent problem, so seeing her in the nighttime was out of the question. Fortunately during the summer the daylight hours were longer, so they got to spend more time together at the very least. It was just after dusk one day in July; Aerick had bade Clodagh a bittersweet farewell before she had transformed and was meandering his way down the cobbled streets of the City of London, wondering what to do with his evening. He passed by a pub that seemed to have a decent few people inside, so he decided to enter and have a pint before heading home. He sat down and ordered a beer before looking around at his surroundings. To his pleasant surprise, he happened to recognize the girl who was sitting next to him, though she had not noticed his presence yet. “Do my eyes deceive me - is that Finn Nottingham?” he asked with a fake incredulity, though a smile spread across his face. Finn and Aerick had gotten on (in more ways than one) at Ilvermorny, and it was always nice to see a familiar face in a city so far from home. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick Sitting at a bar and drinking wasn’t exactly Finn’s typical nightly routine, but she found that the unjudging atmosphere of a no-maj establishment suited her just fine when she needed to think. And boy, did she have to do a lot of thinking lately. Things were starting to break down rapidly every time the Order met. Finn felt like she was losing what little control she did have of the situation. She had yet to speak up during any of the meetings, still not sure if it was her place to say anything about a country she had only been in for six months. It was uncharacteristic of her to go that long, almost like she was back in school again, too captivated by everything that was going on around her to notice the real problem at hand. Her major complaints had been dumped on her friends, mostly Karen and Will since they were the easiest for her to talk to when it came to the Order, but vocalizing it the people that had lived and died by the organization since before she was born was absolutely terrifying. So, Finn opted to drink the negative thoughts of the last meeting, which was only a few hours earlier, away.
She was on her second beer by the time another person took the empty bar stool next to her. That would either mean it was time to prepare for a conversation or finish off her drink and head home. Getting hammered wasn’t her style to begin with, and she certainly wasn’t going to be doing it in front of strangers. That would be too depressing. Finn didn’t pay any attention to the man that was seated next to her until she heard him start to talk, somewhat hoping that it wasn’t directed towards her. Then she heard her name, and her head snapped over to him. “Aerick?” Well that was definitely not the person she had expected it to be. When was the last she had seen him? It had been a few years since…yeah. She knew there should have been more surprise, but the fact that she had already seen a number of her former friends and classmates since coming to England had sort of numbed it more each time a new one appeared in front of her. At this point it was starting to get comical. “Wow. It’s been a while hasn’t it? What are you doing over here?”

Aerick was relieved that his side view of his former Wampus schoolmate had been correct. He had always gotten on well with Finn, but after they left school and he jetted off to London to find and murder his father, Aerick had lost touch with nearly everyone he had known in his life in America. Finn he wouldn’t necessarily call a ‘goody goody’ by any means, but at the same time he wasn’t about to divulge any of his private matters to her, just in case. “I live over here now - needed a change of scenery after graduation. Currently working as a bartender in a club,” he told her with a grin. Finn had known how much Aerick had looked up to his father while in school; he had never made it a secret. He had always wondered if anyone had noticed his father had not been present at their graduation, but again he wasn’t planning on bringing that up tonight. “Let me get your next round,” Aerick told her, signalling for two more beers from the bartender before turning his attention back to Finn. “It is good to see you,” he told her sincerely, and it was. When he had first moved over to London from the United States, he had been so laser focused on finding his father that he had not wanted to run into anyone he already knew. Now that he had both found his father, and had established some sort of life here, he was more amicable to the idea. “What about you, what are you up to?” he asked, taking a sip of his beer. He didn’t know what would bring Finn to London, so he was curious. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick So Aerick was another graduate of Ilvermorny that decided home wasn’t where he was best suited. That seemed to be a common trend over the last few months. From the way he put it though, it had been a few years since he arrived; that superseded her own move as well as that of Karen, Luke, and Dani – her other American friends that had made the trip over. And that wasn’t counting the influx of students that were now going to be invading England. Pretty soon here, it was going to be like being home once again. While she was happy to have her sister around, there feeling of escape that she had right after moving was being dashed. Maybe that was for the better. “At least you have a job,” she responded, laughing mostly at herself for being too lazy to find something to fill the void of being an Auror. She almost didn’t want to work after spending the last five years training and pulling ungodly hours for MACUSA. That was the bonus of being a well-paid government employee. Monetary compensation was the best way to make all of them forget that they could die at any moment while on the job. It even worked its magic on her for a while, pun intended.
“Thanks,” Finn flashed a smile at her former housemate as he offered to get the next round of drinks. While she was still working on the current one, having the next ready wouldn’t hurt at all. Nursing a few more beers for the rest of the night was better than feeling like she had to leave to avoid a conversation. “It’s good to see you too. I didn’t think moving over here would mean I’d find so much of home here as well,” she mused, realizing then that she probably needed to explain a bit more. “You remember Luke and Dani right? They were in Wampus with us but a few years behind…well they’re both here now too. It’s so strange.” Shoving the neck of her bottle to her lips, she took a long sip to stop herself from continuing her blabbering about all the Americans in London. She was sure Aerick had run across a few of them already, especially if he was a bartender at a popular joint. Which he had to be, because he certainly hadn’t lost any of his charm over the years…“Nothing remarkable, unfortunately. I became an Auror after graduating, got tired of it after a couple of years, and decided to take a break and move here,” she explained, nodding her head slowly. It made sense to some people - that she left everything behind just to do her own thing. Others seemed to think they knew what was best for her, which was apparently continuing her duties as an Auror. “So yeah. Figuring out how the British do it I guess. Any tips on life over here?”

Aerick laughed along with Finn. “Yeah slinging the bar at Club Indigo is definitely what I wanted to get into,” he said with a bit of sarcasm, but smiled all the same. In reality he had always been interested in studying wandlore, but since Ollivanders was the go-to for all UK residents it would be a little difficult to break into that area. Still he tried to make time to study them, and had gathered some wood from a few of what Ollivander called the ‘best’ wand trees in the area to try his luck. Now he just needed the core ingredients - a little more difficult to come by - to complete his trials. “Do you miss being an Auror with MACUSA?” he asked curiously. It had been a career he had been looking into because of his fervent respect of his father, but after his betrayal he had sworn off ever working for the magical government, MACUSA or the Ministry in London. He could never face the MACUSA office after one of their top employees for almost two decades just up and left; he couldn’t take the humiliation of the whispers that were sure to follow him throughout the halls. Aerick nodded when Finn mentioned Luke and Dani; he did remember his former housemates, though he hadn’t exactly been what one would call close to either of them. “Looks like an American invasion is happening,” he said half-jokingly. Of course with Elaine having her part in destroying part of Ilvermorny, there would be a surplus of Ilvermorny kids coming over this year to settle into Hogwarts. “Well you’re off to a good start with drinking at a pub, as it is one of the biggest pastimes the British seem to have,” he added with a chuckle, taking a long sip of his beer. “They seem to like Americans for the most part; although they love their tea in tea cups rather than the river,” he added with a small smirk. His first summer over in the UK he had gotten drunk with a few of the friends he had made and had tried to dump some tea in the Thames. It hadn’t gone over so well. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick Maybe she had spoken too soon about the job thing. Being a bartender seemed lucrative, at least from her point of view, but she was sure the hours sucked when it came down to it. Finn let out an awkward laugh as he said that being a bartender at the club is exactly what he wanted to be doing. Like she had just said though, at least he had a job. Her current situation guaranteed zero income of any sort. That was her choice, of course, and while it wasn’t the smartest in the world, she was going to have to get something eventually. The supposedly infinite amount of money that aurors were paid for their time and service was going to run out at some point in time. Having Luke as a roommate did save some of that though, so she was thankful he decided to show up over here as well. “Sometimes,” Finn answered Aerick’s question slowly. “There are definitely parts of it that I wish I still had. A paycheck, for one, but there’s a certain amount of fulfillment I get from helping out others. Near the end I wasn’t getting that anymore, so that’s why I came here. Spend some time on my own and figure out if I was being selfish or just burned out.” Ouch this was getting way too real, too fast. She didn’t want to admit that there were also parts of the political turmoil over here that she wanted to help get to the bottom of, lending her aid when it became necessary. Right now though, that was mostly a lot of nothing. One of the reasons she was currently drinking.
“American invasion indeed. I like it though. Having parts of home here, but not always here. If that makes sense?” The addition of her sister recently also made everything crazier too. Finn let out another laugh at the tea in the river comment. “Don’t need to worry about that from me. I follow the rules too much, unfortunately,” Finn added, scrunching her nose up as she took another sip of her beer. Aerick wasn’t wrong though; everyone here had been more than welcoming and the accommodations they had given her access to right at the beginning of her stay had been more than enough. “So other than working at that club, what have you been up to? It can’t be that exciting that it takes up all your time.”

Aerick chuckled a little at Finn’s mention of a paycheck. “Why do you think I keep tending bar?” he said jokingly, taking another sip of his beer. “The money’s decent, but the tips...well, they help pay for a lot,” he added with a small smirk. In truth, Aerick hated the way girls would lose their inhibitions - and decency - when they kept getting drinks from his bar, but they tipped well for it. Aerick was able to put away the money in case he needed a fast getaway when the time came for him to finally confront his father. For years, Aerick had been certain that when that encounter came, it’d be either him or his father to come out of the dust - if it was him, then he’d have to go into hiding, where cash would be key. Now that the years had passed without the confrontation, he was beginning to wonder whether killing his father was the outcome he still truly desired. One thing was for sure, current or former Auror or not, he was glad Finn could not read his mind. “That’s why I’ve stayed so many years. There are small reminders of home, plus the big city feel reminds me of New York, and...dare I say it...I think the food is better here too.” Aerick laughed a little at the honest statement he had just made. So many people would make fun of England's food, but honestly, it was better quality than the United States. As he was about to ask Finn another question, she responded with a question of her own. Ah, what had he been up to? He couldn’t very well tell her about his affiliation with Elaine, but there was one thing he could divulge. “I was seeing a girl for a bit, a nice Irish girl. Cute accent,” Aerick explained with a small smile. “Alas, she has business to take care of in New Orleans, so we put things on hold for now. We’ll see what happens when she get back,” he finished with a small shrug. It had been with his encouragement that Clodagh had taken the steps to find the voodoo witch who had cursed her, and he hoped she’d succeed in lifting the curse. He just didn't know what was going to happen when, or if, she got back. “What about you? Anyone special in your life?” he asked, wanting to focus more on Finn than himself. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick He had a point. Having a job was better than not having one. “Oh I don’t doubt that you get a lot of tips,” Finn teased, laughing as she did so. Aerick wasn’t the type that needed the dark and alcohol to mask his looks like some of the bar and club goers she had run into over the years. The guy was practically the poster child for being a stud. There was absolutely no denying that. Adding to it, he clearly knew how to work the customers if tips were paying for ‘a lot’, whatever that meant. “If I ever feel like working again, maybe I’ll hit you up. My only obligation is a dog,” she shrugged. In reality, Finn would have to go back into law enforcement. That was all she knew how to do and she was already qualified as an Auror. Ringing up MACUSA for an official transfer would take no time at all, and she was sure that the Ministry wouldn’t mind having another set of hands on deck. New York had made her learn fast. London would be like working a stint Upstate – sleepy and probably boring. Nothing against the countryside, but that’s how it was unfortunately.
Finn could partially agree with his point on staying in London. London was just big enough that it was like home, though spread out a little more so that its inhabitants were living on top of one another like they were in New York. Thus, cramped became cozy. “Agree to disagree on the food,” Finn said, raising a finger at him. “Maybe it’s different for someone in the service business, but as an auror, I needed to live off cheap food while in between jobs or on a stakeout. I’ve yet to find any of that around here.” And she had done plenty of stakeouts here. Finding a damn pizza joint that had decent quality was like finding a needle in a haystack. She even lowered her standards for London pizza, knowing it would never come close to the stuff back home.
Aerick went on to explain that he had been seeing a girl for a while, but she had gone to New Orleans. Hell of a destination to go to. That was one of the places she refused to be stationed to. The New Orleans stint was asking for all kinds of weird, and she got enough of that in the city on its own. As for herself and anyone special in her life, that was more complicated. Lately, a lot of time had been spent doing things with Will, when he was free of course. Trying to label that as anything more than a good friendship was hard to do though. Her time spent with him was awesome, and while she sometimes felt like it could turn into something else, there was the reminder that he was royalty and she was just some random American girl with wild colored hair and tattoos all over her body. While the American part hadn’t stopped a royal before, she was sure there were limits to the rest of her. “Not exactly,” Finn started, feeling like that was a safe way to put it for now. “Does my dog count?” she laughed, taking a deep breath to get back on track. “Well my sister had to come over here for school. I’m sure you heard about the thing back home…so she’s staying with me until Hogwarts starts up. And Luke is my roommate. He needed a place to stay, I had an extra room. No way will I ever turn down a lower rent,” Finn explained as she took another long sip of her drink.

Aerick laughed along with Finn and spread his hands out wide, as if saying he couldn’t help that he had been blessed with good looks. Not that he was terribly arrogant about it (most of the time), but the extra tip money had come in handy when it came to bribing people to spy on his father for him. Finn didn’t need to know that tidbit though; even though she was technically no longer an Auror, he wouldn’t put it past her to look into it more if he accidentally let anything slip. “Hey, dogs are pretty big obligations,” he said with a smile. He couldn’t remember whether or not Finn had mentioned a dog back while they were at Ilvermorny, though obviously she wouldn’t have been able to take a dog with her to school. “Oh hey now, if we’re talking pizza then yes, obviously New York wins hands down,” he agreed, taking another swig of his beer before ordering another, going for the paler ale this time. He took a tentative sip and was pleased to discover he rather enjoyed the taste. “It’s interesting, they have some of the standard American fast food chains that are better over here, but those ‘mom and pop’ pizza places back in Brooklyn? They can’t compare.” Those were the things that Aerick missed most about living in New York; every time he passed a ‘pizza place’ in London, his stomach growled for the grease soaked slices he could devour a block away from his mother's’ apartment. He wasn’t going back though, not until he finished what he came here to do. Aerick raised a brow when Finn said ‘not exactly’; the hesitation and the quick mention of asking if her dog counted told him that she did indeed have someone in her life. The question of why she chose not to share it made him wonder if it was someone famous, or dangerous. Perhaps both. Aerick’s smirk faded from his face as she mentioned what had happened to Ilvermorny over the summer. Oh, he had heard about it alright. Elaine, of course, never took full credit for anything she was responsible for, not even among her followers since she didn’t fully trust anyone. But it didn’t take much for Aerick to figure out her involvement. “I’m glad it happened over the summer at the very least. That way kids didn’t get hurt,” he said gravely. He took another big swig of his drink. “Luke? He’s over here now too?” It really was an American invasion then. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick Finn had expected Aerick’s confidence (which she knew was often times misconstrued as cockiness, though she didn’t see anything wrong with being overly confident in oneself) to be upfront and in her face, but it was still alarming after all these years. Obviously he was using his assets to his advantage; similarly to how she was doing the same thing with all of her years as an auror, now forcing herself to play the role of the vigilantes she used to have a love/hate relationship with. Even calling herself a ‘vigilante’ sounded strange – that practically incriminated herself if she ever chose to walk around Diagon Alley screaming out what it was that she was actually in London for. “They are!” Finn agreed, knowing full well the stress of locking her poor pooch up in an apartment all day. “I even promised him we would move somewhere with more room, and all I did was move to another city.” If Bruce could talk, Finn was sure he would be berating her non-stop. He had that judgmental look sometimes, and while the average person found it funny, she knew exactly what her dog was really thinking, or at least liked to think she did.
“I have a feeling I’m going to be visiting a lot of those places more now that Ellie is here. It’s easier when there’s a little piece of home around. Comforting almost, you know?” And not to mention that fast food was the king of comfort food. Finn was known to gorge herself on McDonald’s if the chance presented herself, especially if she was busy with work, so she was positive that having her sister drag her around the city was going to encourage the sleeping beast within her to wake up hungry. So far she had managed to avoid most of it, but that could change in a heartbeat if she wasn’t careful. “Expecting pizza outside of New York to be anything like New York might be silly, now that I think about it. The real embarrassments are the joints that claim to be New York-style,” Finn groaned, rolling her eyes at the thought of putting any of that pizza in her stomach. If it could even be considered pizza in the first place. The places that wanted to feed hungry people ended up doing better in that regard, because they weren’t concerned in keeping a false image up for their customers. She made sure to take a long sip of her beer to shake the thought of eating anything remotely close to non-New York style pizza, motioning for the bartender to bring her another beer as well, to match Aerick’s new one.
Finishing off the rest of her current beer and immediately diving into the next one, Finn nodded her head in agreement. The students being in school during an event like that would have been reminiscent of what had happened with Hogwarts during the last two years. Then her trip over here would have been all for naught. Had she stayed in New York and continued with her job, the Ilvermorny case would have fallen within her jurisdiction, albeit, with some resistance from the Aurors out of Boston. There were plenty of reasons, no-maj and magical, for not wanting her on the job, and normally she would have agreed. But work was work after all. “I can’t really say if it’s much better over here though…” she hesitated, before clearing her throat and taking another sip of her drink. “But yeah, Luke’s here. Believe he’s a bartender too, actually. In Hogsmeade? I haven’t personally been there yet.” It was a trip long overdue, and she was sure that it would be made now that Ellie was here with her. Rumor had it that Hogwarts was visible from the wizarding town, and that was something Finn desperately wanted to see as well.

Aerick nodded, remembering that Finn had talked about having a sister before. The attack on Ilvermorny over the summer had of course, left his former home inhospitable for its’ students, and they had been graciously taken in by Hogwarts. He remembered first coming over from America to England to find his father, and how long it had taken him to acclimate to all the differences this country had from his home. Unlike him though, the Ilvermorny transfers would all have each other, so there was that comfort to them, and Ellie would have her big sister. “I’ve been to Hogsmeade once or twice,” Aerick commented, not elaborating that it was to meet Elaine; Finn would remain unaware of his affiliation forever if he had his way. “I didn’t see Luke though, so it must have been before he started. I wonder if he is introducing, or at least trying to introduce some American cuisine or drinks to the menu,” he suggested laughing. Aerick had introduced some American concoctions when he had started bartending at Club Indigo, but for the most part the English knew how to drink very well. Aerick laughed at Finn’s disdain for pizza joints claiming to be New York style when they weren’t even New York - he had expressed very similar sentiments when he had first moved here. “Unfortunately, you get used to it. You just never eat there because it’ll ruin the taste when you actually go home to New York,” he told her, a small pit dropping in his stomach. Of course, when was the last time he had been home? After graduating from Ilvermorny, he had set out on his quest for vengeance and never looked back. Now that he was so close he could almost taste it, he could start thinking about the future. Maybe a trip home to New York, to see his dear mother, was what he really needed. Realizing he had been quiet for a bit, he shook his head and smiled before taking another sip of beer. “Sorry, just lamenting over the fact that I haven’t seen the Big Apple in….oh, five years?” he told her, taking another sip. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick Hogsmeade was such a strange concept to her. She understood having a magical community close to the school, and that students could go there on select weekends. All of that was fine and dandy with her. But the fact that there were sustainable businesses there and people commuted there every day to work (meaning Luke), was still somewhat baffling to her. The town felt like it should be more like a weekend getaway, or vacation town, than as a fully functional magical village. Obviously she didn’t know everything and there were probably dozens of similar places back in the states, but it confused and intrigued her at the same time nonetheless. Aerick explained that he had been a few times before, but Luke hadn’t been around. “Honestly, it probably was. Can’t remember when it was exactly that he came over…” she trailed off, mentally ticking back months before shrugging it off. None of that mattered anyways. She had spent several years in school basically living with the guy, so this was nothing too different from that. “Depends on the bar, right? I’ve been to some really uptight ones that get mad if you pronounce a beer name wrong. Sorry I don’t speak German fluently,” Finn rolled her eyes dramatically before taking a sip of her newest drink. That was why this place wasn’t bad. They had beer, mixed drinks, and basically anything she wanted.
“I don’t think I could get used to it,” she said, shaking her head as she stifled a small hiccup caused by the beer. “I’ve forced awful pizza into my stomach before. Not looking to relive that again any time soon.” One distinct memory came in the form of traveling to Chicago for a work thing. Now, she wasn’t entirely opposed to the idea of trying Chicago pizza; it wasn’t half bad. The real abysmal stuff was when she wandered into one of those aforementioned New York-style joints, claiming the glory and heritage of her hometown, tricking her into believing she was back home with every bite. Oh had she been wrong about that. Food poisoning was a proper punishment in the end.
A brief moment of silence filled the conversation, Finn mimicking Aerick’s sip of beer with her own, albeit much slower as he said he hadn’t been back to the city in a number of years. “At all?” she asked. Even she wasn’t planning on going for that long; Christmas had yet to be determined by her parents, but if Ellie wanted to go back, she was sure she would as well. Lack of a job holding her down in London made travel possibilities infinite. “Wouldn’t say much has changed. Still the same old city, and will be when you finally do go back.”

Aerick snorted at Finn’s comment about mispronouncing beer names. “As a bartender, I know firsthand how hard some names are to pronounce. However, there are some that you could probably get very easily and still people get them horribly wrong.” He shook his head, smiling a little. “I can’t tell you how many people have asked for a Meelier High Life, like it’s a top shelf french beer. First off, the French don’t ‘do beer’, second it’s a Miller High Life that’ll cost you 3 quid for a double pint, you’re not fancy.” He scoffed, then chuckled again. It was highly amusing to him when people tried to be fancier than they actually were. It wasn’t as if Club Indigo was a high end place - it was known as a place to come, let loose and get into trouble without anyone finding out about it. Elaine had crafted it that way after all; Aerick imagined she had cabinets of files on all the patrons, in case she ever needed it for blackmail. He knew of at least five people in the Ministry who had been found in...compromising situation more than once with some of the dancers at the Club, and he had distinctly remembered one of Elaine’s disguises viewing them. “Don’t get pizza here, save your stomach,” Aerick advised firmly. He had already been through multiple pizza places in the city, each more disappointing than the last. Some had claimed to have their chefs from New York, so he had given them the benefit of the doubt, but alas they had let him down. He assumed it was more because of the water in London - the water in New York City was just that much better, so bagels and pizza tasted like heaven on earth. The thought of eating New York pizza left a hollow pang that he hadn’t felt in months; homesickness. He hadn’t been homesick, really homesick, in years - just once when he first moved to London to start his hunt of his father. He had wanted to get out of Brooklyn as soon as possible after he found out his father’s betrayal, but he hadn’t counted on the feelings of nostalgia he’d get whenever he passed a pizza place claiming to be New York style. Sure, the city that never slept had become synonymous with the betrayal of his father, but that didn’t mean he didn’t miss it. “No, not once,” Aerick said flatly, not wanting to expand on the topic any further. He took another sip, then sighed. “My mom was supposed to come visit, but her work at MACUSA just keeps her so busy…” he trailed off, then shrugged. “She’s a career woman, through and through,” he said, raising his glass in a slightly mocking toast before taking another good long sip. His stomach grumbled; all the talk of New York pizza had reminded him he hadn’t eaten dinner yet. He glanced at his watch and was relieved that the kitchen would still be open. He ordered a steak pie, then turned to Finn, a lopsided grin on his face. “You’ll have to try some when it comes out; this is something we don’t have that England actually does well,” he told her with a chuckle. finn kylie nottingham

@aerick Her jaw went slack when he started explaining that people actually mispronounced cheap drinks as well. That had to be a joke, right? People couldn’t be that bad with them. If they were…well, it would certainly explain the state London was currently in. Getting a drink order correct, and that was making sure you were clear and concise enough for a bartender to catch it over the background noise, was supposed to be easy. She was learning new things every day apparently. “Please tell me that when you give it to them, you say whatever they called it.” Finn could imagine Aerick giving almost anything back with the most horrid of standard American accents just to mock the customers at their own expense.
“You’re breaking my heart Aerick,” she whined. Giving up pizza until she was back home? That would be months from now. Maybe even years. It all depended on whether or not Ellie went home for Christmas, and if she was going to be tagging along on the flight. But that also meant finding someone to watch the dog and her apartment. There were so many factors she had to take into consideration. “Maybe we should just open our own place. Show them that they’re doing it all wrong. Giant dollar slices. That’s all we need.” It was a good fallback plan in case the vigilante gig dried up. Making pizza was better than knuckle sandwiches anyways.
It was kind of sad to hear that he hadn’t been back home yet. Years of being away from her family would probably kill her. Hell, only a few months was starting to make her a little loopy. A weight had been lifted off her shoulders once she knew the Ilvermorny kids would be coming across the pond. With Ellie only a little ways away now, she felt more confident in her decision to live in London. She had a purpose, especially if something went wrong at Hogwarts again. “MACUSA has a habit of doing that. I had some…difficulty convincing them I didn’t want to transfer over here,” Finn admitted. Her supervisor had been adamant that he could get her a high-up position amongst the Ministry Aurors. They failed to see that her reason to leave wasn’t because she wanted to experience working in a new environment; it was because she was getting burned out.
Aerick probably saved their conversation when he ordered food though. “Steak pie?” All she could imagine was a large flank of meat sitting in the middle of a pie crust. “Guess I’ll take one too,” she told the bartender. “What is it exactly?”

Aerick inclined his head and couldn’t help the smirk that spread across his face. “But of course,” he admitted with a chuckle. His accent was an eclectic mix of Brooklyn, “regular” American with a hint of English after five years here, but he thoroughly enjoyed putting on fake accents to mess with the more inebriated customers. Although, most girls seemed to swoon whenever he put on a Southern American accent, and it would get him better tips. He tried not to abuse that particular dialect too often; it started to make him feel a little sick the longer he used it. “I’m in,” he said immediately as Finn suggested opening up their own New York style pizza place, his smirk turning into a genuine grin. “We’ll just import New York water so it actually tastes like New York pizza. Maybe kidnap a restaurant owner to start us off. Easy peasy,” he was joking of course about the kidnapping part, though it wasn’t something he was unfamiliar with. Over the years Aerick had done many things to get what he wanted; just this past year alone he’d helped Elaine Dupree with the kidnappings of the people whose faces she now wore when she needed to go out in public. He wasn’t about to share this information with Finn however - she knew he was ambitious of course, but he doubted she would think well of him if she discovered just how far he was willing to go. Aerick could tell Finn wasn’t really up for chatting about being an Auror, or transferring from the New York MACUSA office to the Ministry. He couldn’t imagine what life as an Auror must have been like; it’d be easy to get burned out, depending on how much action you got to see. “Sometimes people just need a change, whether its’ a job, scenery, what have you. We’re still young, it makes sense.” Aerick tipped the last of his beer down his throat and ordered another one, just as the pies came out. Aerick’s stomach grumbled at the savoury smell. “Oh you just wait Finn. It’s a pie, but the crust is a little thicker and more..bread tasting than the apple pies back home. Then inside is a delicious combination of cut up steak and mushrooms drowned in gravy and ale. All baked in their ovens to crispy perfection.” Aerick wasn’t sure how good his description was, but it was certainly doing nothing to satiate his hunger. With the fork and knife that had been placed in front of him, Aerick cut his pie in half as was his tradition; steam wafted upwards from the pie as its innards spilled out onto the plate. “Cheers,” he toasted Finn, before digging into his pie and going silent for quite some time. finn kylie nottingham
