Lucy made it to her childhood home and paused at the door before entering. She and Anna had told their parents that they weren’t moving home about a month ago and the last month had gone by with little contact, at least, Lucy hadn’t been in contact. She wasn’t entirely sure about Anna. While Lucy and Anna lived together, they didn’t see each other that much, they had conflicting schedules for the most part, and Lucy did her best to keep her work life far away from her sister and her soon-to-be Brother-in-law. She didn’t want word getting around that she was an escort and letting people take her on dates for money. Not that she was ashamed of her work, it was great money and something that she found herself really good at, but she wasn’t ready for everyone to know. She wanted to keep up the Weasley act, at least in public. People would be less suspicious that way.
A few days ago, Lucy and Anna had received word that their parents wanted them to clean everything they wanted out of their childhood bedrooms. Lucy was fairly sure that this wasn’t a malicious request, but more as invitation for the girls to come and collect anything that they wanted but weren’t able to get already, since Lucy was fairly sure that neither of them had been back since the original conversation. Lucy had come with a few boxes folded under her arm. The house was empty when she walked in. Their parents weren't home. She briefly wondered where they were, since it was a weekend day, but she decided not to worry about it. Lucy heard fumbling from upstairs and went up. There she found Anna, standing in her room, which, at one point, had been a shared room. The rooms of the two girls had been shared until they were Hogwarts aged, and then a wall had been magically built to separate them into two rooms for privacy. As Lucy walked in, she saw that the wall in the middle had been removed again, maybe to make moving and packing easier. “Hey.” said Lucy as she looked around, noting the halfway point where the wall paint and decor varied drastically given the two girls taste. “Been here long?” she asked, walking over and setting her boxes down on the bed that had been hers.

Anna wasn't very excited to go back to her parent's house. The reason was entirely valid, since she knew that she hadn't picked up all her things, but still .... The last time she met with her parents, things ended in a large fight and she really just didn't want to deal with that. Anna had no desire to run into them again and start that, but if she was coming to their house how was she supposed to avoid it?
However, her parents weren't there when she arrived. Anna moved up to the room that she and Lucy shared growing up. The wall between the room- that was placed there when they wanted privacy- was now gone and she smiled as she walked into the familiar space. The room, at least her side of it, was not entirely clean, but it wasn't a disaster zone either. Anna tried to decide where she wanted to start and was standing there when her sister walked into the room. "Hi," Anna answered in response, smiling at her twin. She shook her head, "No, I just got here a few minutes ago. I'm trying to decide where to start." She shrugged as she looked back. Maybe her dresser? That could be a productive starting point.

Anna admitted that she just got here and was wondering where to start. Lucy nodded along with the wondering of her twin. It seemed a daunting task and she wasn’t sure why she had thought that it would be so easy. Sure, they had magic to be able to do a lot of the hard work, the actual packing and the lifting and moving of things, but they still had to decide to what to keep and what they were okay with getting rid of. That was the hard part. Lucy never thought of herself as a very nostalgic person, she never cared too much about items and she didn’t hold a lot of sentimental attachment to objects, but she was in a weird mood being back here. And, she couldn’t wait to leave. But she also found herself feeling a little upset that this would be the last time she’d be in this room. The room that she had hated in the house that she despised with parents who annoyed her. “Suppose we just get rid of it all and start over?” Lucy asked with a laugh. She knew Anna would never go for it. Anna was much more sentimental and logical than Lucy was.

Anna laughed at her sister's suggestion, shaking her head at the same time. She knew that Lucy wasn't particularly nostalgic and didn't really keep a lot of things, but she did. She couldn't help it! She liked things that helped remind her of her fond memories of growing up, though most of those happened just with her sister or with her mother. Besides that, lots of the things here could be useful later on. At least, she thought they might be. "Nooooo," Anna whined once she was done laughing. She reached over and pushed her sister's shoulder gently. "Just tell me where to start and I will." She watched Lucy curiously, unsure if Lucy actually would point her somewhere or if she'd just tell her to be strong and choose for herself.

Lucy knew Anna wouldn’t go for it, but a part of her was still considering just packing up all of her belongings and sending them to some charity shop. Lucy had everything she needed at her flat now, she didn’t ever feel like she was missing anything that she and left at home. Her dresser was full of old clothes that she was sure didn’t even fit her anymore; old robes that she had grown out of, various old jeans and socks and t shirts that she hadn’t gotten rid of in the moment but now had no desire to keep. Lucy wouldn’t judge Anna for wanting to keep any paraphernalia from their childhood, but Lucy sure didn’t need any of it cluttering her space. “Start with the easiest things I guess.” the redhead shrugged and walked over, pulling the first drawer of her dresser open.

All it took was one glance at her sister for Anna to know that even though Lucy was teasing her about tossing everything, at the same time she wasn't. Anna wasn't all too surprised at that, since she knew her sister didn't really get attached to things like she did. She smiled and shook her head, turning back to her side of the room. It was weird looking at it like this, like she was never going to come back. It wasn't like she wanted to, now that she was graduated and she and her parents had that major argument recently, but at the same time it was strange. Her sister spoke, mentioning starting easy as she walked to her dresser. Anna nodded and moved to her own. "Yeah, I guess the dresser is a good place to start." Clothes were probably going to be the easiest thing for Anna to throw away. The hard part was going to be when she went over to the desk in her corner. It had so many little nic-nacs. Maybe she could convince Lucy to help her toss things? She'd have to see.
It wasn't long before she had a pile of clothes that she didn't want. There were a few shirts and dresses that she was keeping, but not half as many as she thought. She sighed and moved to sit on her bed for a second. "How's it going for you?" she asked. It wasn't like the two weren't talking as they worked, but she wanted to take a small break. Surely Lucy would catch that, right?

Lucy had been going about her business and mostly caught up in the thought that she would never again have to come over here if she didn’t want to. She wouldn’t have anything here anymore, she didn’t rely on her parents for anything, she didn’t need to ever come “home” again. Not that this house felt like home. This house hadn’t felt like home in years. Even with Anna there. That didn’t mean Lucy would never come back, of course. She had to keep up some level of the appearance that she was still the perfect, Weasley family member so that no one got suspicious, but it was nice to feel free and for everything to now be on her terms.
“Slow.” She laughed while casting a glance over to her twin from across the room. Even while using magic it had been going slowly. Lucy hated going through things. She hated the forced feeling of nostalgia. “I do think I’ll probably just donate most of this. Where would I put it? I don't need any of it...” she asked with a shrug. She didn’t feel very sentimental about any of the items that passed in front of her as they packed themselves in boxes she had laid out.

Anna couldn't help but laugh in response. Even though she and Lucy weren't as close now as they had once been, she loved her sister and spending time with her like this was kind of nice. There were so many memories here in this room and the fact that they were now cleaning it out was just confirmation that they were moving on to a new place in life. Even though she was living with Lucy for the time being, they wouldn't always be living together. Man, her thoughts were rather depressing. Why was she in such a negative mood? "I know what you mean. There are a few things that I like, but not many that I want to keep." Anna chuckled a little, "Honestly, I thought I'd want to keep much more than this." She nodded to her small pile of clothes on the bed beside her. "It's kind of a weird feeling, going through it all," Anna added, trying to spark a bit more conversation without actually saying so.

Her twin sister agreed with her and Lucy was kind of surprised to hear it. Anna was a much more sentimental person than Lucy was and Lucy had expected her to have a hard time parting with most things from their childhood. However, both of them had grown and changed so much that it wasn’t that big of a surprise, once she really started to think about it. “It almost feels like we didn’t ever live here.” Lucy nodded in agreement when her sister admitted how weird it was to be going through everything. “Like we’re in some strange place going through other people’s stuff.” she continued to explain. Maybe she was being dramatic, but it really did feel like another person had lived here. In a way, maybe one did. A different version of themselves, at least.

Anna could almost sense her sister's surprise at her admission and couldn't help smiling a bit because of it as she kept going. The truth was, she did like keeping objects and things, but now that she was engaged and getting married at the end of the summer, a lot of the items she'd kept throughout the years seemed unnecessary. She wasn't ashamed of them by any means, but she also didn't need them. She was looking forward to building a new life with Oscar and was ready to let go of some of the childish mementos of her past. "Definitely," Anna muttered, picking up a doll she'd had as a child. It was worn and ripped in several places. She placed it in the "get rid of" pile. She sighed, "I'm kind of surprised at how easy it is to let most of this stuff go," she admitted. Lucy would probably already know that, but there was no reason she should keep it a secret. She pursed her lips before speaking again. "Do you think Mum and Dad will get back before we're done?" Hopefully not. The last time she saw her parents was the day she told them she was engaged. Her dad was furious. Tried to forbid her, saying she was too young and being impulsive and she'd stormed out. She didn't really want to see him now.

Anna asked if Lucy thought their parents would get back before they were done and Lucy shrugged. She didn’t think so, but she didn’t have the heart to say it. She didn’t want to tell her sister that she had a suspicion that mom and dad were mad at the two of them for moving out. Lucy thought their upset was invalid, and that they were trying to control their daughters and keep them from living their lives. There was a reason that Lucy had decided early that she wasn’t going back home after last summer. She was glad that Anna had decided to follow her lead, even if she silently hated having her sister in her flat - not because she hated her sister - she loved her sister more than any other person in the world. But, she hated the fear of having to hide in her own home. “I doubt it.” she finally said. “I bet they're off with Grandma.” she admitted. The thought that she and Anna should go visit their grandparents came to mind, but Lucy chose not to say it out loud. It was weird to be around them since most of them wanted her dead - whether they knew it or not.

Lucy was quiet for a long time after Anna asked her question and she wasn't sure exactly why. It wasn't like her question was a particularly important or difficult one. Anna thought it was pretty easy, in all honesty, but apparently not. She pulled out her last box of trinkets from inside the dresser, starting to go through it as she waited. Finally her sister spoke, saying she didn't think so. "Is it terrible that I kind of hope they don't?" Anna whispered in response. She felt bad saying it, but at the same time, she needed to admit the truth to someone. To her sister. She chuckled softly, "Yeah, I beet they are with Grandma." Which meant she'd have to visit her later. She didn't want to see her father right now. "Are you almost done?" she asked, glancing over at her friend and sister.

Lucy found herself snickering. Was it terrible? Was anything than Anna did truly terrible? Anna was possibly the kindest, more moral person she knew. She didn’t think her twin possessed the ability to be horrible to anyone or to think a mean thought. Of course, maybe that was just Lucy trying to differentiate between them in her mind. “No it’s not terrible. I don’t want them to come back either.” she admitted. It was fair that neither girl wanted to confront them, she thought, they hadn’t been exactly pleased with the new living situation. “Yeah I think so. Are you?” Lucy asked, glancing around the room. She had gone through every drawer, ever shelf. She had put anything she wanted to keep in one bag, and the rest of it sat in piles around the room or in the boxes she had packed. She didn’t mind if her parents got rid of the rest. She had no attachment to this life; except for Anna. “Wannah get out of here?” she asked.

Anna looked over at her sister, surprised when she heard Lucy laughing. Why was that funny? Her sister didn't explain herself, however, merely answering Anna's question in the end. She said that it wasn't terrible and that she didn't want her parents to come back before they left and Anna nodded, looking back to the last corner in her drawer. It was sad that neither of them were particularly close with their parents, but also a fact of life. It wasn't really like they could do much about it now, other than try to not aggravate their parents. Anna put one last thing in her bag and then nodded. "Yeah, I just finished." She glanced around the room. "It's a little weird to be leaving here. Not in a bad way, just ... different." Lucy pulled her from her reminiscence, asking if she wanted to get out. Anna smiled and nodded. "I'm ready. Let's go." She stood and walked over to her sister. Together, they went back to their new apartment. --- the end --- @lucyweasley
