@aaron A bit of everything! Mutts were great dogs, in her opinion (which reigned superior in her own little world), sometimes being even more loyal to their owners than a purebred pooch was. Not that she knew of that from experience. Mostly just from friends that had dogs, where she was only allowed to hold onto them for so long before the owners started to get concerned about their furry family member’s well-being. Even though she couldn’t communicate with them, they still had a similar bond to one another, which was more than enough for them to understand that she didn’t mean harm in her human form. “Awww.” Lily crooned. “I like how funny those guys look. Floppy ears and all.” One day she would get one, and no one would be able to stop her. Except a landlord. Or her mum. Or both, if they happened to be one in the same. That was a high probability. “Okay, so cats are good for that I guess,” she relented. “I heard Durmstrang is a lot colder and has snow all the time. Is that true?” The question Lily really wanted to ask him though, was whether or not he knew Elias. Assuming the Greyback children of Durmstrang were familiar with each other in the way that the ones at Hogwarts were, it seemed like a possibility. The only factor to take into account would be age, in which she only knew Elias had been a year older than her. Aaron could have been anywhere in that range of years, the odds of the two boys running into each other becoming more and more slim the older Aaron got. That was like her with Odette, a span of only five years separating the two of them.
Lily groaned dramatically as he said she should be enjoying her free time off. There should have been an emphasis on the ‘should’ in his sentence. Under any normal circumstances, there would have been no reason for her to waste her time in the inn like she was currently. Not because she disliked the discussion she was having with Aaron, but because she would have been roaming in the woods like a good werewolf was supposed to. Because her dad should have been around still. She shook her head to keep the awful feelings from coming back again, immediately replacing them with a smile again. They weren’t allowed to show right now. “Well even us movers and shakers need to do some of that thinking every now and then,” Lily said, tapping the side of her head enough times to make her point clear. Aaron went on to talk about how the professional Quidditch teams didn’t want him at first, her eyes widened. They said stuff like that to potential pros too? “Exactly!” she piped up as he said proving people wrong is extremely motivational. “I just have to figure out what to do first. Too many choices, I guess.” Quidditch didn’t seem viable anymore, her abilities not up to snuff with an entire year off due to the tournament. Last time she had been on a broom, during the pick-up match at the end of the term, it hadn’t turned out too well. So basically anything was game now.

YOU COULD HEAR A DOZEN STORIES OF DURMSTRANG, what Aaron had discovered being an alum was, they were all quite varying and quite different. It was a big school, and a secretive one even still. "Ah, yes." He nodded with a smile, they were quite prone to cold whether. "It's the elevation. Not always so practical for Quidditch, but fun!"
It was a fairly innocuous question, and Aaron had to admit he wasn't expecting it from her. But then again, she was rather unpredictable on all fronts. Just like when she let out a rather long and almost pained groan. He'd only told her to enjoy her free time, but she seemed quite at odds with the suggestion. He frowned, though continued to smile, no real indication of upset yet to force him sober.
"Ah... are you alright?" He broached, almost reaching out to pat her arm. But she seemed to slip on a mask of good humour on as quickly as she'd let it slip. He was taken aback. Aaron usually only saw a switch that fast in the mirror. At least she agreed with him about her future. He'd told her about his own struggle in the hopes that it would instil a little hope in her. Always trying to put a smile on another's face.
"Well, you shouldn't let anybody rush you." He said, not exactly telling her what to do. It wasn't his style. What if it went wrong? He didn't want to feel responsible for another's failure, even in the smallest of ways. "There's plenty of time, don't be worried. I find it harder to think if I feel at panic." He explained, shrugging his shoulders a little.
Looking around, he realised they'd been standing in the lobby for quite some time. "Uh, Doris is starting to look suspicious." He told her, jerking his chin over her head where Doris had placed her wand in obvious display on the counter top. And who, looking up every half second, seemed to be scribbling a rather hasty looking letter.
"I was going to go grab some breakfast." He revealed to Lily, a somewhat invitation as he looked back at her. "Full moon's... they're hungry work." Though he hadn't done anything in particular, the shift alone was enough to exhaust even the strongest of wizards. "You're welcome to join me." There, he'd offered. Lily seemed a sweet, if temperamental, young girl. But, most notably, she seemed to have a lot on her mind. And Aaron knew how that felt, though he was less likely to divulge. Which was a little hypocritical, he knew.

@aaron Her arms unconsciously crossed in front of her as Aaron said that the elevation was a part of the reason why Durmstrang, shivering at the mere thought of it. She enjoyed the winter, but not that much. Only polar bears and the yeti derived pleasure out of that sort of torture. The blazing summer sun and crystal clear skies were her jam, never failing to give her endless days of unbelievably awesome weather to soak in. “I’ve played in some excellent conditions,” she said sarcastically, remembering fondly the horrendous conditions of the scrimmage match at the end of the year. Sheets of rain had been coming down, making it nigh impossible to see in front of her, which was kind of important as a chaser, she would say. That and the bonus injuries of a few teammates as well as being soaked to the bone by the end had left her in a rotten mood that day.
She gave him another one of her ‘happy’ smiles as he asked if she was alright. He had seen through that one. The best part about Aaron was that he only knew this version of her, everyone else knew there was something wrong with her, and would either avoid it altogether or try to help her from the start. Depending on the person, she was currently flipping back and forth on whether she wanted that aid at all. As for help on finding work after school, that stuff she was currently eating up. “I know, it’s just frustrating when everyone around you seems to know what they want and you’re left kind of floundering around,” Lily shrugged, her hands falling to her sides with a thump.
Tilting her head around to see what Aaron was talking about, not realizing his Doris was her Doreen immediately, she saw the woman writing down something. “Is it a crime to have a conversation?” Lily spoke up, trying to get the other woman’s attention on purpose. Realizing that probably wasn’t the smartest thing to say if she ever needed to come back again, Lily rolled her eyes one final time before returning her gaze onto Aaron. “I’m down. Hopefully they have enough to keep up with me. The house elves at school do a pretty dang good job at that.” Adjusting her own bag on her shoulder, she stepped around Aaron and towards the front door of the inn, stopping just short of it so he could lead the way.

AARON DIDN'T MIND THE COLD. Though he'd been raised in Greece, where it was often warm and blue, he had no preference. Aaron knew you could be cold any time of the year. It wasn't always about the temperature. It was about having somewhere to go when it dipped. But Lily's physical reaction was a familiar one. Her verbal one spoke of a different kind of experience. He slotted it away in the back of his mind, choosing instead to focus on the positive.
"You play Quidditch?" He asked with a hopeful smile. Aaron had all the time in the world to talk game. "Do you enjoy it?" Some may say that, at times, Aaron had a one track mind for the sport. He tried to stay in line, to focus on what mattered. But, at the end of the day, he was often happiest just talking strategy. Though, Lily's obvious internal struggle was enough to pull him back on topic.
"Ah, don't worry." He told her again. "Floundering can be good! It means you give yourself lots of chances." It was a declaration he'd decided. Just then, in that moment, for Lily. But even in its hasty creation, Aaron meant it. The words came as he spoke. "You'll be a stronger swimmer for it. Best get all the turmoil out now, so when you settle, you settle for good." He briefly pointed at her for emphasis before dropping his hands. Attention stolen by Doris.
Though, Aaron regretted drawing attention to the woman, as Lily immediately remembered her dislike and made it well known to Doris. He grimaced apologetically over Lily's head, catching the edge of Doris's glare as Lily turned back. He stepped aside to let her take the lead out of the Inn, more than happy to get her out of Doris's hair before they both ended up barred for good.
"I know a great place!" He told her, holding the door open as they went. "Though they may rue the day with us both there. I have a bit of an appetite myself." A laugh on his face. He liked Lily, she was so brash it was as admirable as it was shocking.
As they exited the Inn, Aaron casually mentioned, "Better walk on my right, Lily." He turned his head to smile at her, as if he were talking about the weather. Walking around her back to put them in the best position to walk side-by-side. "Can't hear a breathe out of my left ear."

@aaron She broke eye contact with Aaron when he asked if she played Quidditch, the stab in the heart that followed when he asked if she enjoyed it was even worse than she had imagined it would be. “Played,” Lily corrected him, nodding her head slowly at the sound of that word coming out of her. The fact that she had quit the Gryffindor team hadn’t been discussed with anyone yet. She had secretly handed in the papers to Sav, her captain, at the end of the year, assuming there would be too many things going on in her life over the summer that it would distract her enough that she would be out of shape by the time the season started up in the fall. Not to mention that she had only managed the one pick-up match at the end of the year due to the tournament getting in the way, which had been the most miserable she had ever been after playing. “I did enjoy it though. I just feel like I burned out. Time to let other kids take their shot at it.” There had been a time where she thought going professional was in her future, but not anymore. No pro team would even look at a chaser that hadn’t properly played in two years and could easily be considered a quitter. That was a burden she didn’t want to place on prospective teammates, and most of all, her former ones.
Thinking about her previous goal of being a Quidditch super-star only made her comment about not knowing what to do that much worse. Quitting wasn’t her thing, since usually she boldly barreled into the face of adversity to do what she needed to do. Aaron’s words made sense though. There was so much uncertainty, but getting it out of the way would hopefully open up something else. Or at least that was what she got from him. The distraction of food had the potential to lighten up the darker thoughts whirling around in her head. She nodded her head again as he said he knew a good place, a laugh escaping her when he said that he had an appetite as well. Lily would have been quick to say that it was a werewolf habit, but she had always been like that, long before being turned her fifth year.
Stepping outside, she was forced to squint, the sun blasting her in the face. It always hurt more the following morning. At school, she had the entirety of the forest to trek before getting back to the grounds, a long enough time for her eyes to adjust to the morning light (assuming she wasn’t forced to stay in the dungeon rooms, of course). Aaron asked her to walk on his right side, and she looked up at him, eyebrows first furrowed quizzically, and then to understanding as he said he couldn’t hear out of his left ear. “Quidditch accident?” she asked, even if it wasn’t right of her to be delving into his life like that. If she could get pretty banged up in a house match, it was safe to assume it was though, considering the risks taken at the professional level.

THOUGH QUIDDITCH WAS EASILY A SUBJECT OF extreme joy for Aaron, it clearly was no longer the case for Lily. He didn't know why, but the moment he asked if she enjoyed the sport she seemed to harden. He didn't pry, simply waiting patiently as she seemed to carefully decide how to explain. "I think that is fair," Aaron said gently, a small smile on his face. "We all have our moments, but it's never too late to try again." He'd thought the same of himself occasionally. After the accident, while finding his new balance on his broom. It had taken time.
Breakfast was indeed a better subject choice for Aaron. His stomach rumbled in agreement. And it seemed to brighten Lily up too. At least they had that in common, he thought wryly.
Stepping outside in to the bitter morning sun, it was harsh on his fresh eyes. He looked down at the ground briefly, swapping sides with Lily to be safe for hearing. Aaron had no qualms explaining when she asked, it was one thing he didn't mind sharing at all any more. "Nah," He breathed, popping his hands in his pockets as they walked. "Kid and a bat," He said bluntly, not reflecting on the memory but the facts alone. "I was 12, so I don't really remember." That was something of a lie, he chose not to remember the harder moments.
"But I'm still the swiftest flyer on the pitch." He said with a smirk, turning to look at Lily cockily. "I won't have you misinformed."

@aaron Her reasoning was fair. Aaron was right about that. She had given a lot of thought to it, and with the way the end of the year ended, everything seemingly fell into place. The missing puzzle pieces that would finish off her resignation letter to the captain were found right at the end, though she had been looking for them months already. Finding joy in Quidditch had never been a problem before but it was now, and she didn’t want to continue to participate in the sport when she wasn’t all there. Bringing the entire team down for her own moody, selfish reasons wasn’t her thing. They would be better off without her and bringing on new talent than to continue to suffer with her mind elsewhere in a match. A distracted chaser was a perfect target for the other team and a hindrance to her own. Aaron added that it was never too late to have another go at it, and Lily looked away from him, tilting her head in a sort of half-shrug. “Guess it isn’t. But that time isn’t right now.” She would know when it was, if it ever was.
A Quidditch accident seemed all too plausible when Aaron said he couldn’t hear out of his one ear. Plenty of matches in her early years on the team had ended with waking up in the hospital wing, either from colliding into other players at top speeds or by being stupid and trying to outrun a bludger hurtling at her while she had quaffle possession. The feasibility of getting hit in the head and causing permanent hearing loss was significantly high, especially if it wasn’t immediately treated. But Aaron denied the sport injury, saying that it was another child with a bat that had hit him. Lily knew that she physically grimaced, her lips curling up in disgust that someone could do something that malicious at such a young age. “Wow…that uh, that sucks,” she said through her shock. “Like, I’m not opposed to violence and have thrown a few punches when I’ve needed to, but that’s completely different…” she shook her head, running her fingers through her hair. He followed up by saying that it didn’t cause him any problems playing though, and she matched his smile, though not as confidently. How could someone be like that when being wronged in that manner? Whatever it was, she wanted to figure that out for herself. It seemed useful.

FOR AARON, EVERYTHING HAD TO BE DONE NOW. As if tomorrow wasn't soon enough, never mind today. Like his days and nights were numbered. He had never been rewarded for his patience, those his time keeping was well respected. Always early, rarely late. And when he was late, it was with great embarrassment.
"Sometimes right now is all we have," He muttered, though the rather dim thread was squashed as Aaron swiftly lifted his mouth in to a smile. "Though you are so young, you have plenty of right now's to look forward to, I'm sure." He forgot his company, that of a girl so fresh faced. Though he was sure she knew what it was like to balance on a precipice. She was, after all, infected with the werewolf disease, just like him.
He spoke of his injury with relative ease. Aaron had found over time that this approach could go two ways. On one hand, it lessened the gloom and sometimes made it easier to swallow the truth of it, or it made people uncomfortable. To speak of violence so casually. It didn't compute in the overly empathetic.
"As have I," He said with an eye crinkling laugh. He know how to swing a fist. He waved off the seriousness in her tone, he didn't like it. "I'd have agreed with you ten years ago," He said simply. "Now, I don't even remember what it was like before." He gestured with one hand to his deaf ear. "To hear out of both, it seems like a lot of work." He hadn't stopped smiling, not once.
"Don't fret, Little Red," He said softly, looking down at her. "I'm quite right now." He couldn't stop her from flinching at the idea of it, he was sure he had done so himself many moons ago. But, now it was just an old scar. It hadn't been the initial intention for him to lose his hearing, only for him to hurt. It was just unfortunate timing and the placing of his rather large head.
Turning, Aaron rubbed his hands together excitedly, knowing that the next turning would take them to the little hole in the wall eatery. He placed one hand out, waving at a wooden hanging sign. "They do a spectacular Full English," Aaron praised, speeding up slightly in a burst of hungry energy. He reached the door first, pulling it open and waving her inside. "After you!"

@aaron An extremely awkward sounding laugh escaped from Lily’s insides at the thought of going back to living in the now, instead of in the past like she had been doing lately. That sort of guttural, raspy noise wasn’t the norm with her – another reminder that things were wonky. She knew getting to the now meant confronting and overcoming the things that had already happened, and while she was slowly getting to it, some aspects weren’t going to be making a reappearance for a while, if ever. Quidditch being one of those. The looming, ever present thoughts of negativity were pushed aside as Aaron indicated that she had time to think about it, being young still. Her nose wrinkling and eyes narrowing as she looked up at him, she shook her head. “Hey! I’m going into my seventh year, that isn’t exactly young you know…” Lily stopped walking abruptly, head cocked to the side. “Wait, how old are you?” Aaron certainly didn’t look like an old dude, but she had been wrong before.
Punching came with a solid, aggressive Quidditch match. Though some of the punches she was referring to occurred off the pitch as well. Throwing her fists out wildly at those who asked for it usually resulted with a detention or two, but they were always worth it. “Is it still like that during the transformation?” she asked, curious about whether or not something like that affected the wolf as well. Permanent injuries were a mystery to her, though Albus would probably disagree and say she had brain damage from numerous extraordinary feats. Like trying to climb out of the Astronomy tower and onto the castle roof, or playing with the giant squid. At least she was having fun doing all of those things. But being placed in a situation where she lost hearing in one ear, or even sight from an eye, she wouldn’t know what to do. Aaron was saying that he was fine now, though that was probably because he had normalized his inability to hear on one side and adjusted everything he did to accommodate it. “I don’t think I’m allowed to be Little Red Riding Hood if I’m also a Big Bad Wolf. And I kinda like the wolf more anyways,” Lily mused, knowing that he was commenting on her hair color more than he was on the intricacies of a fairytale. Riding Hood was too dumb in her opinion; mistaking a wolf for her grandmother? Please.
They had finally arrived at the restaurant, Aaron indicating which one it was as they approached. From the exterior, it looked welcoming. “Really? I definitely need as much meat as I can get right now. That walk got to me.” Although it wasn’t until they were at the establishment that she was really feeling the rumbles inside her stomach. At school it was easy – all she had to do was head back inside from the forest (or the stupid room they locked her in when she took the potion) and go to the Great Hall, where an infinite amount of sausages, bacon, and literally everything else she could imagine, were available to her. Aaron held the door open for her, and she scooted inside, offering up a ‘thank you’ to him as she went past. Coming to a halt at the maître d’, Lily threw up two fingers to indicate it was just them being seated, before being led to the table. Slamming her tiny body onto the first chair made available to her, she greedily took the menu, eyes quickly scanning it. “Full English you said, right?” she asked, peaking up from the menu momentarily at Aaron in order to confirm as she continued to look at the rest of her options.

THOUGH HE WASN'T THAT OLD AARON SOMETIMES felt it. It's said the werewolf disease aged its host considerably over time, and there were days where Aaron had never felt older. But, that didn't mean he held precedent over Lily. He didn't want her to think that, but he never wanted anyone to feel hopeless either. "I- maybe." He began, a laugh roughing his throat. "It's just the ending of a... a milestone." He said, motioning grandly with his hand.
Stopping, he eyed Lily from the side, his mouth crooked as he shrugged, "Twenty-four." And that didn't sound old at all, he thought. Well, not to him. "And, I mean- I still have plenty of time." He pressed a palm to his chest and shook his head. "You're making me feel old." Wide eyed he turned his head to give her a reaching look, his mouth twitching. "So jaded."
His ear was an easier topic to him. Though she seemed intent on pulling the attention away from her own anxieties. Pushing the focus on to him. He let it happen, not intent on controlling the narrative. "Yes, it's the same." He said with a shrug. His wolf was much less concerned with the concept of 'good ears' and 'bad ears'. "I lost my hearing before I was bitten, you see." He clarified. "That version of me it- well, it doesn't know any better." Hands deep in his pockets, Aaron tried for a smile. While talking about his scars was easy, talking about his wolf self was a little harder. Not ashamed, but always wary.
"Ah!" Aaron said, his mouth falling open with a surprised laugh. "You might be right." He hadn't thought of that, and her humour had taken him by surprise. "But, there are many iteration of that story - whoever said she can't be both in one?" One brow rose higher than the other, hoping to have trumped her. But, in the back of his mind he wondered why she liked being the villain in the story. After all, the wolf is the bad guy. He didn't say anything, but simply filed it away for later.
Finally in the restaurant, Aaron allowed Lily to take point as he watched her get them a table and throw herself homely in to the first seat they were pointed to. Aaron took the one opposite, smiling in good humour. "Full English, yes," He answered, not even bothering to look at his menu as he waited for her to decide. When the water arrived, he let her order first. "Same as usual for me, Pete." He said when it was his turn, remarking on the shiny name tag on the waiters front. "A full English, extra cumberlands and a large black coffee." Sitting back in his seat, he fiddled with the neatly folded napkin in front of him.
"How long has it been?" He asked evasively, an uncharacteristically serious look on his face. By that he meant since she'd been bitten. Purposefully he edged around the subject, knowing it was a sore spot for some. Hell, it'd been the sorest for Aaron for years. But, looking at Lily, so young and careless that it ached in his chest. He wondered if she'd been as young as he had been. Younger even. And it scared him a little bit.

@aaron It was becoming quite clear that she had caught Aaron with the age thing. He didn’t look old, but she knew the weathered faces of Quidditch players were hard to distinguish from sometimes. That and everyone in their twenties looked the same to her, similarly to how all of the younger students did. Age really didn’t matter anyways, it was just a number that people put on themselves for some reason. Getting hung up on that would take too much time away from the things she really wanted to do in life. “Milestone, sure. But there is a difference between the final year in school and the first one,” she explained, trying to prove her point despite it going against everything she had just been thinking of. Aaron finally revealed that he was twenty-four and Lily tossed her hand to say that it didn’t matter. “That’s barely living. You’re all set for a while,” she said in agreeance. There were plenty of things do in life still, especially at that age. Lily was pretty sure she would do most of what she had in mind before hitting her twenties, even though they were only a few years away.
This was news to her: injuries occurring prior to the wolf carrying over made sense, but she had also wished that it had been explained to her as well. Adrian had been a great informant, though just as reckless as she had been when it came to turning her. There had to be loads of other things about the wolf that she was missing, either because the other Greybacks were afraid to tell her (and most likely suffer from whatever it was she would do with that information), or that they figured she would learn on her own. “I had figured it would be like magic, being fixed and all that. What about injuries that come after? Are they the same?” She was sure that she could broach a conversation on the wolf and its intricacies by starting off here. As for their fictional counterparts, those were different. “Fair enough. I am a bit of both, I guess.” Lily knew she could lead people on with her innocence and then quickly turn her intensity up to ten with little to no effort. That was what made her the way she was. Calling herself a mix of the big bad wolf and little red riding hood was quite the way to describe it. “You know what, I’m going to steal that. Never thought of it that way.”
The waiter was there in a matter of seconds, and it was up to her to order first, Lily repeating ‘Full English’ again, just as she had seconds earlier when looking at her menu. For her drink, coffee, and making sure to tell the man that she needed a lot of sugar. Not the wimpy amount most restaurants provided or the tiny sugar packets, but like, the big shaker that was filled to the brim with crystalized energy. At home, or even out for a meal with her family, that sort of order would have been impossible, looks from the rest of the Potters daring her to do so. They all knew what would happen if she consumed that much sugar with caffeine as much as she did. But they weren’t here today, and the wolf was making her stomach craving food and brain needing a simulant. Pushing her menu towards the waiter, Pete was his name, which she had caught when Aaron made his order, she turned her attention back to her company, his question puzzling her at first. How long since when? Since she had a Full English? That would have been a difficult question to answer had she not remembered that the bulk of their conversation thus far had been focused on what they shared in common. “Oh, getting close to two years now I think…yeah two years. Happened in my fifth year while school was in. Wouldn’t have had it any other way,” Lily said, only stopping when the waiter returned with their coffees, her eyes greedily watching the sugar as it was placed next to her drink. She could already tell this was going to be a good breakfast.

AARON REACHED OVER AND FLICKED THE AIR just above the crown of Lily's head. "Only that you are a little taller," He grinned, joking but also a little bit serious. "And maybe wiser?" His brow raised at that, but he thought she probably was. Even if that wisdom manifested bitterly, like it appeared to do in Lily. He thought it was quite upsetting, the idea of giving in at her age.
With a dramatic sigh of relief, Aaron pressed a hand against his chest in answer. There was life in the old dog yet. But, he didn't have a funny retort, so they continued walking for a bit, chatting easily about his ear and how it came to be. He frowned slightly at the surprising hint of uncertainty in Lily's tone. Turning his head, his eyebrows pulled together, but he was still smiling encouragingly.
"It's... a disease, you know?" He said casually, long since having come to terms with the description. "I don't think it was ever supposed to make our lives easier." He turned to face the street, squinting at the bright early soon. "I've... taken a few injuries back with me." He said, mulling over what she'd said. "Never taken an injury with me in to transition, though, so perhaps?" Shrugging his shoulders, he laughed it off like it was impossible. "Hopefully, neither of us will ever find out."
He nodded once, smiling, when she decided to take him up on the variation of the tale. He didn't often feel this right, so it was nice to settle. Though he definitely reckoned he'd be asking her about this at another time. It was strange how silly, offhand comments could root in a person. And he thought about that all the way in to the restaurant until he was distracted by his order. Aaron didn't even think to question Lily's radical sugar request. Everybody had quirks, right? Plus, there was nothing like a transition when it came to a drop in blood sugar. Or, so he'd read.
Sitting back, the question that had niggled at the back of his brain since they'd started speaking reared its head. This time, it wasn't so difficult for him to ask. Pressing his lips together, he watched her slowly figure out exactly what he was asking. Trying carefully to convey it from the seriousness in his face. Which was difficult, he naturally smiled. His stomach turned when she finally spoke, forcing him to swallow as he leaned back.
"I am- I'm glad you can be so positive," He said after a beat, gnawing on the inside of his lip. "I- when I first turned it was... difficult." Which was a bit of an understatement, but he wasn't there to unload on the poor kid. Gesturing with one hand, his bottom lip stuck out thoughtfully. "Most people, it is- not ideal, you know?" He leaned back in his chair, the front legs wobbling an inch off the ground before settling again. "The world is more tolerant, but not always." This furrowed his brow and he swung on his chair again, just a little bit restless.

@aaron Sure, she was slightly taller now than when she had entered Hogwarts. Aaron was right about that. But there wasn’t much difference from then and now. Most of her vertical growth had been in her first two years at school, and barely anything since. The unassuming short stature coupled with her firecracker energy always caught new friends off guard and made opponents in Quidditch frustrated when they couldn’t hit her. One of the only drawback Lily had found in her size was that she was easily bounced around in crowds, even when she fought back against them. As for being wiser, “Does being a smartass count?” she tilted her head to the side, throwing a wink in Aaron’s direction. Because she was definitely one of those, there was no doubt about it. Keeping it serious when he mentioned that their mutual ‘condition’ was a disease was tough. Lily had problems looking at it that way. She willingly allowed herself to be turned, obviously vexing her parents and the school even more than she normally did. At most, being a werewolf was a mild inconvenience once a month, and that was it. Understanding the political nature of where they stood in society was an afterthought. Being on a list didn’t seem all that bad; her name was probably on several dozen at school (namely the detention one), and more than likely a few more with the Ministry because of her family. And if someone didn’t want to hire her because she was a werewolf, she was sure her Uncle George would. Problem solved. Helping out at the joke shop sounded super fun anyways.
“I think the most I’ve gotten is a few scratches. Nothing too bad yet,” Lily explained. There were a million and one dangerous things she could run into whilst turned in the forest at school, and as far as she could recall, she had yet to come across any of them. That was her territory during the full moon; her kingdom of the night. All the spooky dark creatures had the rest of the month to reign supreme, so they could spare one night for her. “I’m sure if I didn’t have Adrian and Jamie it would have been,” she shrugged. “They gave me the crash course. Werewolf 101. Professors Greyback and Greyback. Excellent teachers, might I add.” Grinning, Lily greedily eyed the waiter moving closer with what looked like her coffee. She needed that right now. The worst kind of jitteriness was the type where sugar or caffeine was a stone’s throw away. Right now, she was at the stage. Post-turn syndrome was about to absolutely wreck her if she didn’t get anything inside her. “But yeah, I can see what you mean. Those people are shite to begin with though, right? Because they’re judging us on something uncontrollable instead of on our character. I’d rather be hated for who I am and how I act instead of what I am.”

AARON SNORTED LIGHTLY, SHAKING HIS HEAD with a smile. "I suppose it might," He said behind a smile, rubbing a hand over his stubbled mouth. He'd forgotten about how fast teenagers could be. With their mouths and their minds. And the confident wink Lily threw at him, well that appeared to be entirely particular to her.
"Good," He said simply. It was a relief, however, to hear that she didn't have too many scars to show for her new 'life'. He had his fair share, and they had been no picnic to acquire. But, over time he'd come to expect the hurt. Self-inflicted or otherwise. And it was easy for him to make peace with that within himself. But a young girl? With her life laid out before her... It was a harder pill to swallow.
The mention of Jamie lightened the mood for Aaron immensely. She was the first Greyback Aaron had ever befriended, and he had been quick to bond with her. More so, she had helped him too. "A good support network is... vital," He agreed, though he couldn't say much about Adrian, unfortunately. "Jamie... she was the best welcome I ever got in the UK." She was his sister, in every sense of the word.
"I never really got the chance to know Adrian," Aaron admitted, his words tinged with regret. "One day," He added, with promise. Their drinks were set before them and Aaron wrapped both hands around the hot mug, warming his palms for a moment. "Wouldn't we all," He smiled, thinking fondly that Lily was smarter than she gave herself credit for.
He unwrapped his hands from the mug and plucked a handful of sugar sachets from a cup in the middle of the table. One by one, he tore the tops of the paper sticks and upended six sachets in to his cup. "Sweet tooth," He admitted sheepishly, shrugging one shoulder.

@aaron Lily could talk all day about how awesome Jamie was at literally everything. The girl had a heart of gold, exuberating positive words and encouragement wherever she went, and always knew what to say and do in the moments when she was needed the most. Jamie was quite literally the sister she never had. If Al and James had been there for her more often than Jamie was, then maybe things would be different. They had their own problems and woes to deal with, and she was sure they had gotten tired of her immaturity over the years, making an emotional conversation impossible. Al would probably brush her off, whereas James would crack a few jokes and think everything was fixed and good to go. What worked in the moment never seemed to do it in the long run. “Better her than anyone else, I think. Not that the others are bad…they just don’t have the same finesse that Jamie seems to have when it comes to keeping everything under control.” That was most in depth she had ever described her friend, but it fit the former Hufflepuff to a T.
As for Adrian…well she still didn’t want to think about him all that much. Her mouth didn’t want to stop yapping though, she kept talking, “When he was here, he was my best friend. But we all have our own problems I guess, so taking care of those was more important,” she left out a long sigh, before snapping her usual happy smile back onto her face. It was too easy these days to do that. At least she could get some enjoyment out of the prospect of food after last night. Food always had a way of tugging the corners of her mouth up, even in the worst of times.
“But! Can’t get hung up on those things,” Lily said positively as her coffee was finally in front of her. The rush from that would revive her tired body bit by bit. Aaron poured six packets of sugar into his own, and Lily watched, her mouth slightly agape. That was more than a sweet tooth! Her horde of candy from the monthly trip to Honeydukes didn’t even come close to the amount of sugar Aaron was loading into his coffee. “Do you do that with every cup?” she asked, snatching up her own handful of sugar packets, mimicking Aaron’s previous movements and ripping packet after packet open and dumping them into her coffee. “Because I do.”
