Once again, Cordelia felt slightly guilty for putting the boy through everything that had transpired over the last few minutes, even though she knew she shouldn’t have to feel that way. If she hadn’t known the right repairing spells, this would have been a lot worse off than it actually was. Whilst she was thankful for her insane training regimen with repair spells over the last few years, this was a one off occurrence and he was lucky she was proficient in them. She knew what it was like to have to wait to have a camera fixed – sometimes even being held up for long periods of time after smashing it drove her into a corner of restlessness and nerves. The question that always popped into her head was whether or not a gap between breaking and fixing the camera would have long term effects on it or not. She knew that was absolutely preposterous and that it would be fixed regardless of time, but there was always that nagging feeling that it wouldn’t. Cordelia hated that the most about herself. Needlessly worrying over silly things. There was no escaping it for her, unfortunately.
Beans? She watched him pull more candies out of his pocket, finally understanding what he meant. Trying to bait them out of their holes with candy was one way to do it. She had seen other methods work just as well, but usually by violent, younger students that wanted to write a paper on the little creatures. Those instances typically included a smoke charm or fireworks, both of which would cause the gnomes to flee their homes. Cordelia disliked that way of doing things, because there was no telling what harm the spells or fireworks were doing underground. While she was sure it couldn’t be that bad, watching the gnomes run around in terror wasn’t exactly fun for her. The boy’s option to use jelly beans was much more human. “D-Didn’t know that,” Cordelia commented about them being partial to the candy. He said he could always get the picture ‘next time’, and she nodded her head. “Good l-luck,” she added as she bent down to pick her camera and tripod back up again. This conversation seemed like it was at the end of its life, and she definitely didn’t have much more to add to it at all. Gnomes were out of her league, and she had zero interest in capturing pictures of wildlife in the Hogwarts area. She had already done that loads of times.
“I uh, I-I should g-get going…m-my dad is probably waiting for m-me…” Cordelia pointed over her shoulder in the direction of Hogsmeade. There was absolutely no way she would know that or not, especially if he was still drinking with his friends, but finding an out of an encounter was difficult for her, and this seemed like the best time to escape. That was, if he didn’t have anything else to ask of her. “Sorry again.”

ELI MIGHT HAVE STOPPED TO FEEL SILLY WITH A pocket full of beans, but he didn't. Not really. Maybe a little embarrassed at being caught, but the tactic obviously worked. And hey, the gnomes got some sick sweets out of it so it was win-win. She didn't laugh at him, which only made Eli feel more secure in his tactic. Now if only he could tackle his poor attention span. Another day, maybe.
"Really?" He asked, a little proud of himself as he stuffed beans back in his pocket for later. "Well, you can use it if you want." He said with a smile, dropping one bean in his mouth before offering her one briefly. Of course, what kind of civilised being would want pocket beans. He definitely felt silly about that when he pulled his hand back slowly. "Thanks," He said, ruffling the hair at the back of his head. She was packing up to leave now.
Shifting awkwardly from foot to foot Eli didn't attempt to stop her. He just stood there, uncharacteristically silent. He didn't really know how to talk to her. Especially seeing as the impression he had made was such a horrible one to begin with. Of which he was still embarrassed. And stopping her seemed a little too aggressive given where he stood. "I could... walk with you." He mumbled, but she was already walking away on her own. Maybe he was a little disappointed. All things considered, she was an interesting person. He wiped at the back of his pants again, nose wrinkled. He felt utterly useless.
"Please stop saying sorry!" Was all he yelled after her in the end, lifting his arm and waving it over his head in goodbye. He doubted he'd ever see her again. She was the type of person that dropped in to your life for a hot minute and then disappeared like smoke. She'd definitely left an impression, though one of great confusion and sticky guilt. Eli probably wouldn't forget the encounter for a long time. He looked down at his mended camera and sighed.
