09.01.2024 Leaving home to get on the Hogwarts Express was always bittersweet. It was the end to the summer months, and to freedom, in a sense. The freedom bit didn’t Cordelia until she was situated in her own cabin on the train, bags stacked above her, and camera out and at the ready. That was when she realized that she had just finished her last free summer; where she could do whatever she pleased, whenever she felt like it. The impending school year was the finale, and only a few hours and this train were between that and the summer she had just left behind. Summer itself hadn’t been all that interesting, not like they ever were for her. She only managed to break her camera a grand total of one times, and that was thanks to some muggle accidentally spilling his coffee on it. Aside from that, there wasn’t much else. The few friends she did have were busy, which was fine with her since she preferred to spend her days taking pictures and roaming around on her own. Her parents had finally let the leash come off near the end, probably also coming to the realization that she was in her last school year and seventeen. Being babied at this point in time was the definition of a hover parent, which she was aware of already for the last few years.
The train had pulled away from the platform only about ten minutes earlier, and the hustle and bustle from outside of her cabinet was crazy. Only a few people had managed to open her door, but they had groups much too large to comfortably take the remaining space she had. Like most years, she would probably spend the entire trip with a group of first or second years, gabbing away about how excited they were for the year to start. They would eventually get bored of their hypothesis and ask her questions, and she would do her best to reciprocate as quickly as possible. They didn’t know any better and were just excited for school, whereas she was dreading the exams that came at the end of her year. Those had been looming over her for the last two years now, and they were finally a scary reality. At least her Charms one would be easy. There was no way for her to royally screw that up.
A bang on the cabin door made her jump out of her seat, her head quickly whipping from the window she had been staring out of, and to the glass windows of the door. An eruption of knocking was on the other side, and Cordelia could only imagine that the person doing the hitting was some sort of wild animal. Her eyes focusing on the face, things started to make sense; it was Lily, who was so excited that her face was pressed right up against the glass, her breath fogging it up as she was yelling something on the other side. Cordelia waved her hand urgently, so that the Gryffindor would come in before making more of a scene than she already was. As she waited for her friend to pop in, Cordelia pulled her camera strap over her head and placed the camera on the seat next to her. Lily was going to keep her occupied for a while, she could already tell. There would be no need for her camera during that time.

09.01.2024 The seventh year. Lily was both ready to escape the clutches of home, or whatever was left of it, as well as get this thing done. It had been a long time coming, and the slow drag of the final months of her sixth year and the summer had built up the hype. The trip to Platform 9 ¾ was different this year; it was reminiscent of her return to London a few months earlier, but with the absence of Albus this time. Her extended family was there, of course, a few cousins still left to round out their years at Hogwarts as well, but she was the only Potter left standing, and probably would be the last one to grace the corridors for a number of years going forward. Pulling away from her mum was tough for more reasons than one, but Lily quickly shook away the sadness that encompassed being home. She was tired of it all and had to quickly return to her normal self, something she had been fighting to find all summer. That meant going back to her high-energy, bubbly self, despite everything else going on in her life. She had managed to pull it off before, so there was no reason she couldn’t do it this time too.
Finding a cabin to take over was tough. She was a lioness, the self-proclaimed queen of Gryffindor (though technically she had been for quite a few years now), but all the first years and students from Ilvermorny didn’t seem to understand that. They thought she was joking. Hopefully they ended up in Gryffindor so she could prove them wrong. So cabin after cabin she went, sticking her head into the ones that had people she knew, giving a quick ‘hello’ if they weren’t busy, all the while looking for one she could commandeer for herself. The train felt longer this year, which in reality it could have been to handle all the extra students, so she spent a number of times hopping from cart to cart effortlessly, much to the horror of the younger students watching her.
Eventually, Lily rolled up on a cart that was jam packed with people from all over. They seemed to be interested in someone using a joke toy in the hallway. Trying to push herself past, she laughed hysterically that people were actually interested in the gag, before explaining that the object would self-destruct once the handler was done with it, emitting a small haze into the air that would smell awful. Uncle George stocked these things by the hundreds before the start of the school year, though sadly most burst whilst in the luggage transfer from the train to the school. Much to the horror of the crowd, Lily skipped past them only stopping at a cabin when she saw a flash of blonde inside one while she flew by. Backing her tiny self back to the door she passed, her eyes brightened up. “CORDIE!” Lily screamed, banging on the door furiously, her face smashed up against it. The jump from the Hufflepuff inside was enough for Lily to know that her friend had heard her. A few more rapid knocks on the door had the other girl motioning for her to come into the cabin. It didn’t really matter what the Hufflepuff did though, since Lily already had the handle turned down and was pushing against the door to burst inside any second.
Bouncing from the door to right in front of the Hufflepuff, Lily threw herself at the girl, wrapping her in a hug. “I missed you! How was your break? Did you take lots of pictures? Oh is that your camera right here?” Lily fired off, going from the hug straight to the camera that was sitting on the seat next to Cordelia. “Say cheese!” she yelled, putting the camera up to her eye and clicking down on what she assumed was the right button. Nothing happened. “Sure you didn’t break this thing again?” Lily turned it around in her hands a few times, ignoring the stammered protests from the Hufflepuff, finally realizing that she had to wind the darn thing up and remove the cover on the front in order to see an image and then capture it. “Mind if I borrow this quickly?” Lily said, not asked, as she snapped a photo of Cordelia before running back out into the hallway to face a person right next to the door. “Say hi to the camera!”

KING'S CROSS STATION WAS A DREAM THING IN itself, but the fact that Eli had to run through a wall to get to platform 9 3/4 was a fact he would not stop talking about. He rambled on to his father, to an excited Atticus. It really was the highlight of his morning trip. Not the fact that he was arriving at a brand new school soon. Or that it was a year he would surely never forget. One unlike any other. No, all Eli could talk about was the great absurdity of wall running! He spoke of it until he entered the train.
Eli gave Bean a last pet from Atticus's arms before he ushered his brother off in his own little compartment with his own assortment of people. Eli knew better than anyone that his brother would be fine, but it left him at a loss. He wandered through the aisles, a sea of filled compartments that spilled people out in to the gangway. The overwhelming chatter rumbling in his chest as he excused himself, stopped to make small talk and lugged his case behind him.
Eventually, however, he was stopped between compartments by the eye of a camera being pointed at his face. Say Hi to the camera! The person told him, and Eli smiled on instinct. "Hey?" He questioned, his freckled nose wrinkled, eyes squinted in amusement. She'd come tumbling out of her compartment. A lightening of red hair.
Once his photograph was taken, he tried to look around her small shoulder. "Now I've had my ID taken, couldn't squeeze me in to your compartment could you?" He asked boldly, pulling his case around to his front with a theatrical grunt. "This thing is getting heavier, I swear it."

09.01.2024 Setting her camera off to the side was the smartest thing Cordelia had done all day, because the instant the cabin door was opened wide enough for Lily to squeeze through, she was practically on top of the Hufflepuff, drawing her into a hug that was only possible to pull off by Lily Potter. And also in typical Lily fashion, a million questions were asked in one breath, Cordelia immediately confused on which one she should answer first. At least the Gryffindor wasn’t mushing her face today. That happened from time to time and made it even more difficult to talk than it already was for her. “It was g-good…quiet,” she said, her eyes shifting from Lily to her camera on the seat, which the other girl was now observing closely. What had seemed like a smart move was now teetering on the edge of disaster, the glint in Lily’s eyes was overflowing with mischief. Her reflexes weren’t fast enough, most likely looking like she was moving in slow motion to the Gryffindor, with Lily managing to snatch up the camera at lightning speed. Cordelia held her breath as she watched her friend fiddle around with the camera, first clicking down on the buttons and then rotating it around in her hands without a care in the world. “N-No I was j-just using it a m-minute ago…” Despite her utterance, Lily seemed to figure out how it worked, and took a picture of her before bouncing out into the hallway.
There was absolutely no way she was going to be able to pry her camera away from Lily’s hands. If it came back in one piece, it would be a miracle. Craning her neck to see what her friend was doing in the hallway, she say the flash of red hair stopped right outside, camera raised at another person standing there. There were going to be a lot of surprises on that roll of film once she entered the development process. The only positive she could make out of all of this was that she would finally be able to see things the way that Lily did. Currently she had no idea what that meant, but was sure photographs would give a better glimpse into the Gryffindor’s worldview. After a few seconds of watching, it looked as if Lily was talking to the person outside the door, Cordelia standing up and moving closer to see if she recognized them as well, without looking like she was trying to pry on a private conversation of course. Unfortunately the person was just out of sight in the hallway, Lily’s body blocking most of the view Cordelia had out of the door’s window. She would have to ask about the person later.

09.01.2024 The boy that was in her way seemed to know how to play the game, smiling as she clicked down on the button-thingy that took the picture. “Hi!” Lily responded exuberantly to his questionable response to the camera. She lowered the camera down, just below her neckline, her head tilting to the side as she realized that this guy didn’t look familiar at all. Who was he? “Are you one of those Americans?” she asked, completely disregarding the fact that he had a different accent from everyone else she normally interacted with. There had been a few of those kids that she had ran into over the summer, and they all seemed like they had interesting takes on going to school at Hogwarts. Her own view on the whole thing was that she would have more people to torture with her pranks and adventures. They would know little to nothing about the school, and she was basically an expert on everything there. It was a symbiotic relationship in the making, whatever that meant. But she liked people and for the most part they liked her back, so that was all that was important here.
He asked if he could hop into the compartment she had just come from, the one that was currently only housing her and Cordie. Glancing over her shoulder to look inside, Lily shrugged. That wasn’t really her decision to make, since she wasn’t the one that had gotten there first. Cordie probably wouldn’t care though. “Here. I’ll help,” Lily said, letting the camera go carelessly, the strap catching on her neck as it swung back and forth like a pendulum. Reaching out, Lily motioned with her hands for the boy to give up his case to her, one hand going back to the latch on the door. Multitasking should have been her middle name, because she was basically the best at it, managing to pop the door open as her other hand was placed on the case. “Hey Cordie, I found us an American boy to pass the time. This is…uhhh,” she looked from the Hufflepuff back to the boy, remembering that she hadn’t gotten his name yet. “What was your name again, dude?” she asked as she backed up into the compartment, pushing past Cordelia.

ELI WAS QUICKLY COMING TO TERMS WITH THE fact that from now until eternity, he would be referred to in some iteration as 'the American. An American' and so on and so forth. At least he still found it amusing, his head dipping as he laughed through his nose. "That would be me..." Eli stated, pressing his lips together tightly. "One of those pesky infiltrators." And there he was, trying to muscle in on her compartment as well. Well, no stopping him now.
Luckily, she didn't shoo him off. Which had definitely happened once or twice during his adventure through the belly of the train. "Oh no, I think I've-" But the redhead moved swift, already motioning for him to hand it over and juggle the latch on the door. She seemed the persistent type. "You could get the door?" He offered instead, squinting his eyes.
So busy grunting and shimmying his trunk in to the small gap, Eli didn't even look up before she was asking for his name. He hadn't considered there would be more people in the compartment. "Oh, right, it's Ee-" And then he spotted her as he lifted his head. The blonde with the camera, though without it this time. His words caught in his throat and he averted his gaze, dropping the trunk on the ground at his feet with a heavy thud. "It's Eli," He muttered, his throat bobbing as he offered his hand to the redhead. Gaze flitting between her and the blonde who he definitely remembered.

09.01.2024 Or rather, Cordelia would have asked Lily about the person later on if it didn’t look like she was helping them bring their suitcase into the compartment. Did that mean it was someone Lily knew? She was fine if that was the case, although that meant she would have to introduce herself and make small talk if she didn’t already know them, and that was always an adventure with her. The worst part was always explaining the stutter and that it was there regardless of situations that could exacerbate it. Meeting someone new would probably do it, but having Lily there too would make it slightly easier. The Gryffindor had a way of taking over any conversation or interaction in a way that relieved the pressure and need to talk from Cordelia.
Stepping away from the door as Lily was fiddling with it from the other side, Cordelia ran a hand through her hair. Even though she had been the only one in the compartment before Lily had arrived, she had managed to spread most of her things out across the racks over the seats to make it look like she wasn’t the only one in there. Scooping up a bag from the side opposite her, she moved it to above her spot, hopefully making enough room for the incoming person. In the span of a few seconds it took her to complete the task, the noise from the hallway erupted into the compartment, Lily’s voice the loudest of it all. Something about the person joining them being an American boy. So it wasn’t someone either of them knew, or at least she didn’t know any American boys. Lily, on the other hand, she wasn’t so sure about. Nothing was all that surprising when it happened around Lily. Turning to face the newcomer, Cordelia could feel her mouth drop open slightly. This was the guy! The one whose camera she accidentally broke! The one whose camera she broke and then fixed…and now Lily was leading him into the compartment.

09.01.2024 This guy was funny! Pesky infiltrators – she was going to use that one more often in jest now. It fit way too well. “Psssh don’t worry about that,” Lily laughed, waving her hand at him. “There are a couple of Americans I know that have been at Hogwarts their entire lives so it’s pretty normal. It’ll just be like having a couple hundred more of them.” His comment had her wondering what the rest of the Hogwarts students were thinking about this whole thing though. They should have all been used to it by now, having hosted the other two schools last year. Or maybe that was the problem? It didn’t really matter to her though, she liked the foreign students and they would come to like her eventually as well. That was how she ruled her kingdom, after all.
It didn’t really matter on whether or not the boy thought he could get the bag himself, it was going into the compartment with her help no matter what. She had to remember that these new kids didn’t know her or how she was. Any Hogwarts student would have gladly let her help, because if they didn’t, they would get an earful of chatter the entire time. This guy was smart by letting her get physical, and he didn’t even know it yet! Door propped open and on the way in, Lily struggled to navigate the front end of the suitcase as the boy pushed from the other side. Normally these things weren’t that difficult, but Lily also wasn’t paying that much attention to how she was moving the thing. She was more interested in getting his name, which he started to say and then abruptly stopped, dropping his case as well. That was a rather dramatic response to asking his name. She didn’t even do that during first meetings anymore. He offered his hand to her as he finished saying his name, Eli, and Lily carefully took it, noting that he wasn’t paying direct attention to her while doing so. What was he looking at? “Lily. And that’s Cordie,” she responded, finally following his gaze over her shoulder. Cordie was standing right behind her, looking just as dumbfounded. Squinting at her friend and then back at Eli, Lily cleared her throat. “Cordie, you said your summer was quiet. That look you’re giving Eli here says something else. Wanna spill?”

THE FACT THAT THE REDHEAD SEEMED NOT AT all put off by the fact that he was a transfer bode well for Eli. And, at the very least, she laughed at his jokes. Which was as good a start as any, he thought. "That's a relief..." He said, grinning as he blew out a breath. And while his spirits had certainly lifted as he entered the compartment they was soon overcome by shock.
Though he'd figured the blonde from summer had been about his age, somehow Eli had never considered the fact that he might see her again so soon. And rather than finesse it out he'd stopped, lost all train of thought and let his mouth fall open dumbly. He recovered a second too late, attempting to smile as Lily went on undaunted.
"Nice to meet you, Lily..." Eli said, flitting his gaze back to the blonde with a delayed, "You, too, Cordie..." That isn't at all what he expected her to be introduced as. It was so familiar and easy, two things he'd failed to manufacture when they'd met. Though the circumstances were vastly different.
Eli grabbing his case from the ground when Lily broached the obvious tension between the two. He almost dropped it again, grunting and bending his knees as he recomposed himself in time to heft it on to the empty seat opposite 'Cordie'. "Maybe one of you could help me levitate this up, huh?" He added hastily, interrupted Lily's seemingly relentless pursuit for an explanation. "Can't say I can think of the spell off the top of my head." He cuffed the heel of his palm against his head with a laugh that shook in the middle.

09.01.2024 Staring across the compartment at the boy was like looking in a mirror; his mouth had also dropped open in a similar fashion to hers, obviously caught off guard at seeing the other. There weren’t too many chance encounters in her life. The people that wanted to talk to her found her when she was needed. When she wasn’t wanted, she did her own thing. Randomly ‘bumping’ into someone just didn’t happen with her. And yet here they were. To make it worse, Lily was too quick and already spouting out all of their names, probably not even thinking about the fact that she had just given the boy, whose name was apparently Eli, the nickname that only she and a few others used. Almost no one else called her Cordie, and now someone she had only met twice was going to be running around Hogwarts calling her that. She knew that the nickname was a show of endearment from her closer friends, but there was something weird about it coming out of the mouth of someone she barely knew. The only way she could explain it was that it grated on her ears. It was unnatural even to her. “N-Ni-Nice to m-m-meet y-you…ag-again…” she finally managed out after a few seconds, being overridden by Lily’s embarrassingly accurate statement. There was more to it than just shock, sure. A story about her clumsiness accompanied it, and she didn’t really want to get into it right now.
Thankfully Lily had dropped Eli’s suitcase on the ground and he was going after it almost immediately, attempting to place it up on the rack above the seats and causing a much needed distraction as he asked for help levitating it up there. Her hand moved automatically to her pocket as she withdrew her wand, flicking it at the case. Levitation was stupid easy for her. The entirety of the previous term had been spent experimenting with how many objects she could hold in the air and move all at the same time. A suitcase was no match for her. Concentrating on the spell, while bringing more attention to herself, also succeeded in clearing her mind long enough to forget that Lily was trying to dig for more information than was actually there. Within seconds, the suitcase had been moved from the seat where Eli had placed it, and onto the rack above. Easy enough. “D-Do they n-not teach you charms?” Cordelia asked curiously as she put her wand back in her pocket. She didn’t think it was rude to ask, but the more she thought about it, Eli hadn’t known how to fix his camera either. That instance she could give him the benefit of the doubt though – cameras were nuanced mechanisms with hundreds of tiny, moving parts. Without understanding the inner workings and how they were built in the first place, there was no way someone could fix it on the first go. She was simply lucky to have smashed hers enough to learn from negative reinforcement.

09.01.2024 What the hell was going on here? Because there was definitely something she was missing, and she did not like being left out of it. That was like, her entire existence. Getting into other people’s business and then injecting herself into whatever parts she pleased. Right now though, she was being completely shoved out of whatever she thought she was starting, going from what could have been a fun, enlightening train ride with an American boy, to a mystery that involved her innocent little badger friend and the summer she had just left behind. Lily did enjoy a good mystery but not without any clues, and all she had to go on so far was that Cordie and Eli had met previously and by their reactions to seeing each other, it had been an interesting encounter. Then again, this was Cordie she was talking about. Any interaction with the Hufflepuff was bound to have some sort of awkward adorableness, and from her own experiences in that field, this was starting to look like it was another one of those. She knew it was safe to assume that whatever had happened it wasn’t too awful because Cordie was talking without a problem, aside from her stutter acting up a little more than usual from what Lily could only assume was the shock of seeing this American boy again. All of this was so interesting…
Caught up in her thoughts, Lily only realized that Eli had asked for help to lift his case up to the rack above the seats when Cordie pulled her wand out and executed the appropriate spell at almost lightning speed. “Show off,” Lily teased, giving her friend a nudge with her elbow. “She’s pretty darn good at that kind of thing,” she continued as Cordie asked the boy if they had Charms class at his school or not. That would be kind of silly if they didn’t, considering that was all the basics to spellcasting. Not that she had ever really paid attention in class before or anything. “We became friends because she helped me out when I had my voice hexed. Super reliable, just like the good little Hufflepuff she is.” Throwing an arm around Cordie’s shoulders, Lily pulled her closer in. She was going to get to the bottom of this mystery by the time the train got to Hogwarts, if it was the last thing she did. Her Hufflepuff couldn’t keep it secret forever, and she was sure she could squeeze the story out of Eli easily. “So how’d you two meet? Summer fling? Never pegged you as the romantic type Cordie because you seem so innocent…but maybe that’s how you hide it all,” Lily continued the ribbing, pulling the two of them down onto the seat behind them before resting her head on her friend’s shoulder and making direct eye contact with Eli, a smirk forming on her face. “You didn’t hurt her, did you Eli?”

ELI BARELY EVEN NEEDED TO ASK BEFORE HIS suitcase lifted in to the air, pulling free of his clammy grip and slipping itself neatly above their heads. He stared after it in shock, a small smile slipping in to place on his face. He turned in time to see 'Cordie' and her wand. She was fiendishly good with it, he recalled. And Lily only voiced what he already knew.
Though Eli's smile wavered as the blonde innocently inquired about Ilvermorny's curriculum. "No, they do..." Eli said evasively, shoving his hands deep in to his pockets. He gratefully turned his attention back to Lily, happy to switch the subject from something other than his obvious inadequacies. He recognised the camaraderie between the two, though Lily sure had much more to say than her friend. It did help divert the awkward tension between himself and Cordie. Allowing himself to be pulled in to a seat with the two, Eli soon realised he was being interrogated. And he hadn't even suspected as much until it was too late.
"Oh, no-" Eli spluttered, summer fling was so far off the mark it was almost funny. Not because of its unlikeliness, but rather of how insane it seemed after everything that had actually happened. Eli rubbed the palms of his sweating hands down the legs of his pants, eyes wide. Lily's eyes bored in to the side of his head. "She fixed my camera," He muttered under his breath, reaching up to scratch the side of his neck and avert his gaze. "She really does have a gift for Charms."

09.01.2024 Asking if Ilvermorny had a Charms class or not was a stupid question, and Cordelia realized it immediately after asking. Those were the kinds of assumptions she couldn’t make anymore, and one of the reasons why she never asked questions in the first place, especially when they were on subjects she barely knew about. With all of the American students at school now, there was going to be quite a bit more tip-toeing around everyone and everything. She was sure the influx of students added to Hufflepuff would try to be as friendly as possible, and there was also the introduction of more roommates too. Before she could utter out an apology for assuming he didn’t know Charms, Lily threw her arm around her and pulled her in closer. There were times where Cordelia just let her friend do what she wanted, deciding that acting like a ragdoll was easier than resisting Lily’s need to be touchy-feely all the time. Most of the time, pulling away would result in an even worse situation, so going with the flow tended to be the option that the Hufflepuff went with.
A warm sensation began on her face as Lily started to talk up her abilities with charms and repairing objects; Eli already knew all of that, but hearing it come from someone else always ended up eliciting this sort of reaction without fail. That should have been the end of it though, a new conversation about school or something else following it, but Lily had something else in mind apparently. As her friend said the words ‘fling’ and ‘romance’, Cordelia felt her face start burning even more. There was no reason for her to be embarrassed by any of it, but she still was. Knowing Lily, this wouldn’t be the end of it. Cordelia let the Gryffindor sit her down, breaking any and all eye contact from Eli and opting to stare at the floor. She knew this was going to happen the second Lily put two and two together. Eli seemed to have it together though, explaining that she had fixed his camera and then agreeing with Lily that she did have a gift for Charms. “Y-Yeah…j-just f-f-fixed his c-camera…” she echoed quietly, still staring blankly at her feet, a flash of red hair falling into view as Lily set her head down on her shoulder. There was no way Lily was going to let this go now, even with both of them agreeing on what happened.

09.01.2024 Her gaze made him nervous. The best part? She wasn’t even trying hard. Cordie she knew would cave under virtually any notion that a social interaction had exceeded a normal level of conversation. The increasing blush on her face as she looked away was indicative enough of that. There was no way the Hufflepuff could ever hide her embarrassment from Lily. It was literally impossible. As for Eli, while only meeting him a few minutes ago, was also showing all the classic signs that she considered to be side effects of nervousness. Lily had put enough boys into this position herself to know exactly what to look for. The scratching at his neck, the way his words barely made it out, and how he fidgeted; each and every one of those was nothing new to her. But it was still hilarious to watch two people collapse under her words in a matter of seconds. They were adorable.
Cordie repeated what Eli explained, about her fixing his camera and that being how they met. Lily flipped her head from the boy to her Hufflepuff, trying to examine their faces. Seemed true enough, and there was no reason for Cordie to lie to her about that. Sure, she would want to keep something like that a secret, but being probed in this manner would elicit something else altogether. But that didn’t matter much to the Gryffindor. She wasn’t quite done yet with Eli, and unfortunately that meant Cordie was going to have to go down that road as well since she was part of the game. “Oh no that you didn’t hurt her or oh no that you two didn’t hook up?” Lily asked, turning her head back around to look at Eli once again, this time opting for a smile instead of her devious smirk from earlier. “Because those are some pretty big distinctions we need to be differentiating between here, Mr. Eli. I can’t just let any American boy come around and try to take her all for himself. He needs to learn how to share with me. Make sense?” she added, loosening the hold she had on Cordie’s shoulder, instead turning it into a sort of reassuring pet-thingy. She wanted to make sure her friend understood that she was poking fun at Eli without having to explicitly say it out loud, which would make the game end. Cordie was pretty darn smart so she was definitely going to understand what that meant.

SWALLOWING WAS SUDDENLY A TASK AS ELI'S throat dried out anxiously. Eli had a large personality. He was always doing or saying something dumb or impulsive. But there was something about Lily's eagle eyes. Her fiery hair and sharp brows, she filled the room and the air and the sound. And, when he looked at her, he realised she was enjoying it all. Even their discomfort, he thought. It was really strange, he didn't know how to react.
"The second- yeah the second one," He said briskly, gesturing with his hand. "I don't know if I hurt her. Did I?" He turned his gaze to Cordie, so it didn't look like he was talking over her when she was right there. But it was the truth, he dug his hands deep in to his pockets, he didn't know at all. "We didn't really... get a chance to talk much, her dad was waiting for her." He explained, though he felt infinitely awkward, like one wrong step would take him right in to an innuendo the redhead was feed on.
"You're like a million steps in the wrong direction, man." Eli chuckled stiffly, his shoulders rounded. "Way off base." He slashed the air with his palm, eager to set the record straight. He'd only known the girl a second and he already felt like she talked in predictions and suspicions.
He turned his gaze to Cordie, hoping to lessen the tension that so obviously fell between them again. Why was it that he was always partly responsible for her discomfort whenever they met? "I fell out of a tree and broke my camera, totally lost my head." It was the shortest way of saying he'd yelled while avoiding any wrath from the mildly terrifying Lily. "She fixed it for me, I went back to the gnomes I was trying to snap and she went home." He shrugged his shoulders, slumping back in to his seat with a sigh. "Sorry, it's just a plain old, boring encounter." Eli said, hoping Lily would lose her scent for drama. Praying, even.
