Finn wanted the scotch, and Andy wanted the red wine, so she got three different bottles out and three different types of glasses. She prepped the drinks as they spoke, Finn saying that Andy could ask her any questions. Finn said New York City was a little more intense than London and Andy nodded. "I'm sure it is. People in London are generally too... whimsical to do any serious crimes," she joked. She had seen plenty of serious crime, though, you just had to know where to look for it. In the magical world, however, it was easy. Will spoke about Andy's skills, and almost said 'duelist'. Andy's eyes widened and she fumbled with the wine bottle in her hand as she was pouring it. Andy cleared her throat, "uh, yeah," she said, sort of answering for Will, but he'd have to answer himself because she was a little struck. Andy brought the two their glasses, placing them down in front of them on the counter, still silent for a bit longer... finn kylie nottingham@wil

Finn spoke about how little her hands were and Will laughed, his eyes moving to the hand that she had raised between them, "well... I guess they are pretty small. That just means more bullet like punches rather than hammer like, right?" he countered. There definitely could be an advantage to a flurry of tiny strikes as opposed to a few massive ones. Though, it'd sure take longer to knock someone out that way? Once they were back with Andy, Finn ordered a scotch and they got comfortable. He wasn't expecting her to squeeze the life out of his hand, though, when he almost said 'duel'. He couldn't help but smile as she did that, but he tried to hide it so that neither of them would catch on to his game. Andy was too busy almost dropping the wine - which made him think h needed to be a bit more sensitive about timing in this regard. "Yes, boxing. That," he said, trying to remain innocent. "Fighting bad guys. Just pure evil bad guys, right?" he thought he was so funny. finn kylie nottingham@lestrange

@lestrange & @will 10.19.2024 Bullet-like punches? Maybe. Finn preferred making her opponents feel the pain from her spells than her fists. That didn’t mean she was entirely opposed to throwing a punch or two if necessary. With a lot of the rabble she dealt with back home, getting up close and tossing a fist at their face was usually what ended the ordeal. They didn’t know how to react when knuckles came crashing into their nose or jaw. She was sure the majority of them had never been in a physical fight before too, since a quick tap to the face was enough to throw them on the ground and allow her to disarm them. Of course that was only if she felt like she was losing the upper-hand on the duel side. In her experience, that didn’t happen a lot. Standing in Will’s kitchen was a testament to surviving all of her past jobs. There were plenty of scars and broken bones to make up for her mishaps though, all conveniently hidden under tattoos and healing charms. “I guess so. Takes more stamina to throw a few dozen small jabs than to get one strong uppercut,” Finn reasoned. She was sure that was what Will was getting at. Turning to Andy as the girl detailed London crime, Finn had a hard time hiding her confusion. “Whimsical? It does have a sort of fairytale feel to it sometimes…”
As Andy brought their drinks over, Finn continued to stare down Will, maintaining her glare as he attempted to squirm out of his almost slip-up. “Yeah, just fighting the worst of the worst,” she agreed. Accepting the drink from Andy, she said ‘thanks’ and took a sip. Scotch always had an old feel to it, something that she had missed since leaving home. All of her superior Aurors were old guys, the kind that had dedicated their entire lives to the force. They were always drinking scotch and smoking cigars. She wasn’t a fan of the tobacco smoke, but turning down an aged scotch was almost a sin. “Most criminals are a product of socio-economic problems though. It’s certainly a system politicians can fix if they put the time into it,” she said, mulling over her own response with a twirl of her glass. “Not all of them though. Seen some nasty rich folks that are just as dangerous as the lowest dredges. If someone wants something enough, they’ll try to get it.”

Finn said it took more stamina to do her kind of boxing with several smaller hits and he nodded, "exactly!" As Andy spoke about London being whimsical Will chuckled, nodding. "I suppose, though I do know a lot about the trials of the city as well. There is plenty of crime to go around," he countered. They started talking about fighting the worst of the worst and all and Will took a long sup of his drink, letting Finn talk about criminals and how they came to be. He nodded, agreeing that politicians needed to put the time to fix the issues in society that bred the bad eggs. She added that the rich folk were just as dangerous sometimes, and that people would try to get what they wanted. "All true. Sometimes it's nature, sometimes it's nurture, and sometimes it's just boredom I think," he explained. "Tell us, Finn," he looked to Andy and then back to Finn, "do you think schooling and peers have an affect on ones desire to do evil as well? I found at my school there was always a bad crowd running around together, roping people in," he was trying to think of another clever way to toss magic into the conversation, but he'd probably just have to give it up soon... finn kylie nottingham@lestrange

@lestrange & @will 10.19.2024 Finn contemplated comparing the crime she faced in London to that of home, and New York City. No-maj crime was certainly lower here, comparably, but magical crime was almost rampant. The old blood here definitely liked looking the other way and it had been pretty apparent upon her arrival that the Ministry was still turning a blind eye to some things. From what she had heard, the current Minister was more progressive than her predecessors too, so the American assumed the bad eggs were being weeded out and replaced with competent worker bees. When it came to tackling crime, it had to be in a top down manner, and flushing out the government was the first step. There was a reason she didn’t transfer Auror offices and decided to go it alone while over here. Her tactics and philosophies were tolerated back home, but she was just another rabble-rouser here. Which was fair enough – she liked being the problem child for once.
As for schooling, she had a few thoughts on that. “I think it does, to a certain degree,” she began slowly. She sipped on her drink for a few seconds, mulling over the second half of her response before continuing, “I would say that it starts at home, at least for most, and then grows at school. It only takes one kid who is treated poorly by their parents to turn that around onto another, weaker kid. They watch, learn, and repeat. Some don’t know any better and others know exactly what they’re doing,” she let the other two think about it as she took another drink, fighting back the snap that scotch always gave her. “Both of those can create criminals, but the latter are the ones that are truly evil, you know, if true evil is real.” Like the ones attacking the Hogwarts students and causing the destruction at the Triwizard Tournament. There were probably only a few ‘evil’ ones in that group and the rest were lonely followers. That was just her hunch though.

Wills attempt to mess with the girls was being buried by the reality in the darkness of the conversation that they were having. It was all well and good, but he was ready to reveal the secret. He thought it would be best to just come right out and say it. "I personally find that old magic has a way of sneaking into people's blood without them even thinking about it," he pulled out his wand and summoned a book forward from the cupboard, just to use magic. It was just a cookbook but he lifted to his face with one hand, taking a sip with the other, and basically just acting as if everything was totally normal and he was entirely innocent. But then he looked between the two of them over the rim of his book, taking in their reactions from the safety of the binding. Still, if they wanted to smack him around they could, that would be incredibly easy for both of them. He could duel, sure, but he wasn't and auror or a hit witch. Actually, come to think of it, he'd chosen the wrong duo to mess with. finn kylie nottingham@lestrange (I'll go next)

Andy didn't chime in the conversation, mostly because she knew a lot about this inherent evil in people. She had a good deal of it within herself, and she wasn't sure how to jump into the conversation without giving away something to do with the horrifying state of her inner being. Will started to change the subject, sort of, but really he just - oh my gosh. He pulled out his wand and summoned a cookbook. Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. She started to feel an incredible panic. This is not good, this is not good. But then she saw his face lurking behind a book, a smirk on his lips. "Will!" She chided, reaching out to smack the book upwards hoping it would fly out of his hands. "Why didn't you just say something, you moron," she groaned, flipping around to open the cupboard and retrieve her wand from its hiding place. She turned to Finn, "so, I'm guessing you went to Ilvermorny? Can you believe this guy?"finn kylie nottingham@will

@lestrange & @will 10.19.2024 Everything moving in slow motion was the only way Finn could accurately describe what she was seeing unfold in front of her. Will had been dancing around the subject of match since the second they had entered the kitchen, and she figured he was doing it as a way to tease her in front of Andy. But pulling his wand out to summon a book from across the room? She was half a second away from smacking it out of his hand and stunning the poor girl standing across from her, before wiping her memory of everything that had happened in the last five minutes. A million and one questions that all began with ‘why?’ were racing through her head as she fumbled to place her drink down and pull her own wand out at the same time.
Will’s stupid smirk from the other side of the opened book told her everything she needed to know though, and Finn forced her wand back into her pocket, frustrated he had gotten one over on her like that. “Really?” her exasperated question following hot on the heels of Andy yelling his name at him. The other girl was rummaging in a cupboard and produced her own wand from it, which obviously meant that her sparring partner and gym buddy was also a witch. Why couldn’t they have little badges that warned each other of that? That way they wouldn’t have a stupid royal prince breaking the news for them.
She took a long drink from her glass, glaring at Will the whole time and shaking her head at him, taking a few moments of silence to decide what she wanted to do to him in retaliation. Nothing came to mind before Andy was asking her questions. “Yup. Ilvermorny was my home. And I was law enforcement, technically. Auror,” she raised her hands in a ‘ta-da’ fashion. “I say we tie him up and leave him for the maid to find tomorrow morning,” Finn added, raising an eyebrow at the other woman.

It was fun for a while to watch the girls react to his little show. Andy smacked his book out of his hand, and Finn had pulled out her wand, it seemed to take action. But she put it away, and had her own surprised word to toss at him. He couldn't help but laugh, maybe harder than he should have been. He took his drink and knocked back a good chunk of it, laughing a little and sighing after taking the sip. The girls spoke of Ilvermorny, while he was still letting his laughter die down. But then Finn suggested that they tie him up, and he set his glass down putting his hands up to either side. "Hey, hey, can't a guy have a little fun around here...? With all of the incredibly well trained duelists around here you'd think I would be a little smarter," he added. He made a pouting face at Finn and held up both of his hands, clasped together in pleading. "I promise I'll be good, please don't hurt me." As scary as it was to face the girls wrath, at least now the three of them could have some honest fun together talking about school and wizarding over drinks. finn kylie nottingham@lestrange (the end)
