Apparently his stance on werewolves was interesting enough to have Ondina ordering another drink. That or she was bored to death and needed another to drown him out. Renard didn’t particularly care which it was, because he was going to talk about it regardless. Stopping him once he was on a tirade about the werewolf plague happening right under them would be like hopping into a Tube track and thinking you could stop an oncoming train. He knew the nuances and particulars of the laws surrounding werewolves and other beasts; that was his job. He also knew what would happen if the certain communities stepped out of line. The dogs were harder to control because there was an immeasurable amount of them out there and only the good ones turned themselves in for the registration list. But that also meant they were responsible for any of the bad ones that stepped out of line once they were in their areas, like the dog hotel. Those were the days Renard lived for, when he could slap them all with the law book and a pair of shackles for letting one of their own break out of the hotel during a moon and maul some poor woman or child to death. Doris wouldn’t see that coming at all. “Animals that have the ability to hide in plain sight,” Renard corrected her, pointing at her with the index finger of the hand holding his drink. “Vampires and centaurs sort of stick out, you might say. But the dogs?” he let out a short laugh, “There could be any number of them in here right now. Even good old Hans could be one.” Renard knew the bartender wasn’t a werewolf because he had seen the list of registered wolves in London. That and he was sure Donna wasn’t going to risk a liability like that. At least he hoped not.
“The story goes that Wolfsbane was supposed to be a cure,” Renard shrugged, “But you said it yourself, it’s just a suppressant, and not a very good one.” He had to give her that one, she knew what she was talking about. Whatever silly Ministry department she was located in had clearly taught her something, because Hogwarts certainly hadn’t done that. “Ondina, dear, I don’t need werewolves to get me through the day. If they all poofed out of existence, I’d move onto blood-suckers.” That was about as honest as he could be. Vampires weren’t nearly as bad as the pooches were, but they could be if they really wanted to. Typically they had a higher level of intelligence and kept to themselves, which worked for him. Less problems meant a better working relationship. Clearing his throat after taking a sip of his drink, Renard continued, “And that means I’d have to keep a shorter leash on you. I’m sure you wouldn’t want that, would you?”

HE MADE A POINT ONDINA COULDN'T DENY AND she didn't like that, her nose wrinkling as she sat back with her drink in hand. "Okay..." She muttered reluctantly. "You have a point." In reality, she didn't know enough to fight him on it more thoroughly. Sure, they were the type that could hide in plain sight, but like he said there were also other things to worry about. Like vampires and centaurs. Other half-breeds with the audacity to form communities and breed. "I guess," She shrugged, a slight smirk on her face as she stopped her glass halfway to her mouth. "I guess we need a new plague to fight them for us."
She didn't doubt that he'd find something to turn all of that self-righteous rage on to. She almost felt bad for the blood-suckers. Almost. Downing the rest of her drink, she let it burn its way down to her stomach and radiate there as she threw her head back and laughed at Renard, shaking her head. "Who me?" She said as she looked at him slyly. "I'd like to see you try." Ondina almost wished he would, just so she could prove a point. She eyed him up and down. "Plus, I don't suck blood."

Of course he had a point, he was Renard Fucking Goyle. Even if he didn’t work in the beast division he would still have a point. It was the indisputable sort of fact that a lot of the magical community had a hard time swallowing until it was too late. They could pretend all they wanted that the doggies were acting like good little boys and girls, but they weren’t going to roll over so easily. The Ministry had a way with controlling the younger ones, those that hadn’t really known the hardships that their ancestors went through, and he was sure it would only take a few flipping sides to suddenly present a very sizeable problem in the streets of London. “Now you’re talking,” Renard encouraged her, taking a swig of his drink. “Or a fucking cure. I wouldn’t care if they were turned back to normal people. Hell, I’d fund it if it meant getting rid of them once and for all.” The alternatives were an actual disease that took the entire population or putting them in places where they couldn’t harm innocents anymore. He had a list in his office desk at home detailing certain legislative codes that could get the latter passed if he really wanted to push it. The problem was finding the support these days.
“Yes you, Red,” he snorted at the obvious. But she was challenging him, at least that was what the alcohol and the way she was phrasing her words seemed to be telling him. Mulling over the things he shouldn’t be doing, Renard finished his drink and motioned for Hans to add their drinks to his tab. Sliding off of his chair, he stepped past Ondina, only stopping to look back at her, “If you’d like to test that hypothesis…” he trailed off, shrugging his shoulders before heading towards the hotel portion of the casino. Either way, he needed a room for the night.

A CURE SEEMED LIKE A SIMPLE ASK BUT EVEN Ondina knew the limitations of magic. She battled with it everyday, her lungs and body at constant odds, with only a brief reprieve. There was only so much an elixir could do, although she had high expectations for the future. As did Renard, it seemed. "You..." She questioned, her eyes narrowed and a slight smirk on her face. "Giving away money?" She didn't know him all too well, so it was a generalisation, but she liked the way it fit against his tailored suit. "The casino would go bankrupt, surely."
Her empty glass was loose in her hand, the rim stained with lipstick, but she didn't motion for another right away. Instead, she watched as Renard closed his tab and stood up all of a sudden. She thought maybe he wasn't going to take her challenge after all, and maybe there was an echo of disappointment in that. When had she come to almost enjoy verbally sparring with him? She refused to acknowledge such a thing, her face carefully blank as he turned back to her at the last minute.
Renard's offer hung in the air between them, electrically charged and open ended as he walked off in the direction of the private room sector of the casino. She'd never been in one, but she knew just what they were used for. Her glass clattered as she dropped it on the counter, eyes pinned to Renard's back as she stood from her stool with the full intention to leave. Let him sleep alone, it would surely be better than any verbal jab she could offer him. And yet, she still found herself following him at a distance. Her shoulders squared and nose high. She had challenged him after all. If she walked away, wouldn't that make her the loser? Or, so she told herself.
