Riley couldn’t help but notice as Kinsey entered the party, and, as she shied away upon seeing Priscilla on his arm. He felt so badly about that, but there wasn’t much he felt he could do about he. He hated that his future was hurting Kinsey and he did still care for her greatly. He wanted to make it right but he wasn’t sure how. And he knew for certain that tonight was not the night to try. Riley just nodded as Prissy explained why she was late. To be honest, he didn’t care. He didn’t dress up, nor did he even think about it really. “Yeah this is Priscilla, my fiancee…” he admitted with a small smirk forming on his lips, it sounded so silly, so ridiculous coming out of his mouth. Riley Fudge, 17 and engaged to a girl he had only spoken to for the first time 2 months ago. He hadn’t told his roommate yet, he had barely told anyone unless he had to. He was sure that Prissy had spread word around, though, likely with his sisters help.

Sav was smirking at her again, teasing her and Ashley shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know how formal this thing is," she answered. Obviously it wasn't that formal with all the people standing around and talking, but she didn't know if the dancing was different or ... well honestly she was just overthinking things. It was hard not to, with Eli somewhere nearby, but she wasn't thinking about him. Ashley was determined to have some fun with the guy in front of her. She nodded, following him onto the dance floor. This wasn't like all the fancy parties her parents took her to, but Ash was sure she'd be able to have some fun with it. After all, she was hanging out with Sav, who seemed super confident about the entire thing. She started to move to the beat right as Sav continued, telling her that no one was going to judge her. "Is that because I'm with you or because no one's paying attention?" she teased, smirking at him now. @sav mentioned Elijah Theron Fleming again. Hehe apparently she can't resist

The girl who quickly joined them explained what had taken her so long and Gilderoy wasn’t completely sure if he was interrupting some planned meeting the two had or not. Riley hadn’t really appeared to be waiting on someone while just standing here. He also was seemed surprised when this girl just showed up. Either way it wasn’t Gilderoy’s place to ask right now. The girl finally offered her name and while the name wasn’t familiar she was just slightly. It seemed they at least shared the same house. Gilderoy took her hand and shook it. “Well its a pleasure to meet you Priscilla, nice touch with the wings. I would know as I have a lovely pair myself.” He joked for a moment even if Gilderoy did enjoy his costume.
Riley spoke finally and explained that this girl was his fiancée. Something he hadn’t really been expecting of all the possibly options that were in he’s head. “Really? What happened with..” Thankfully Gilderoy caught himself, just about to ask about Kinsey. As if by magic which was an interesting thing since this was a school for magic he did notice Kinsey at the party just like Riley probably did. “With waiting? I mean still being in school is a little young?” He had at least kept himself from asking about Kinsey but that didn’t really make this conversation any less awkward. “Well, what do I know, right? You crazy kids do what your hearts tell you. I’ll be going, I may not be the host of this party but I should still do my rounds being the life of it and all.” That and he would like to avoid this awkwardness. Gilderoy got enough awkward vibes from just being around Fiona. With that Gilderoy left the two to their conversation, instead he saw someone leaving the party it seemed and he decided they needed the company of the worlds greatest friend, even if they weren’t that he was himself after all.
These wings may have looked amazing but they didn’t do him much help in trying to gracefully make it through a crowd. Still Gilderoy was momentarily quicker than Kinsey as moving through such a crowd. Possibly people were just getting out of the way of the wings before hand. Gilderoy was close enough now even if they were both almost to the exit now, she should at least hear him from being a few feet back. “Leaving so soon Kinsey? You’re doing this party thing all wrong. You have to show up late and party the night away. Not show up a little late and leave as soon as possible.” Gilderoy laughed as he was only teasing her, he could understand her possibly wanting to leave if she had seen Riley and his fiancée. Still he could attempt to not make this so bad for a housemate. “I can offer lessons in partying if you like?”

Nora made her way to the corner with the girls as they moved aside, but she definitely wasn't going to the Hospital Wing. As much as she was okay with helping people out, she wasn't willing to give up a night of fun for it. Still, she wanted to make sure the girl wasn't going to throw up or anything - she hated throwing up and didn't want to see anyone go through that. She frowned as the girl stuttered, clearly not happy with being in this situation at all. That was such a pity that she was turned off from the party so easily. "Well, I'll take care of this," she said, lifting he cup she had taken from the girls hand. "A cup and a half won't do much damage, you probably don't even need the Wing," she suggested. "But there's not harm in checking if you'd be happier," she shrugged. She didn't care enough about how this ended to argue with her or the other helpful Slytherin. "Be safe," she chimed, giving them a wave before leaving the two girls to head toward the door. She didn't get far before seeing a fellow Gryffindor she recognized. A boy, Daniel? Yes, an American. She crossed over to him, half full drink in hand. "Had some yet?" she asked, raising the cup to him. bye @rivquatre and maxima ruqayyah greyback ! hello @crimson1

The boy said New York was nice this time of year and she nodded once. She knew that, she wished she was there now. Usually she was at school this time of year, sure, but that didn't mean she didn't wish she was back in New York. She had spent ten fall years there before going to school, after all. New York in the fall was the best time of year, especially in the rain. But thinking about New York made her too sentimental, which meant she cut off her thought process about it. He sighed, saying how he missed his own northern home as well. "Technically we are fairly north here as well," she admitted begrudgingly, but she couldn't deny that the fall here wasn't that bad, either. At her question as to whether his devil costume was real or fake, he simply shrugged and said it was a good question. She raised one eyebrow, her mouth in a flat line - not amused by him. He added that he was whatever she wanted him to be, to which she let out a low scoff. He could play both sides, could he? Depending on his 'charm'? He mentioned a sister, but she brushed that aside. She didn't care to discuss family, no matter how wild this sister may be. He asked what house she was in, and she shrugged this time. "Does it matter? Maybe I'll tell you, if you show me this oh-so-infamous charm of yours," she challenged. What, it could be fun. Lance wasn't here yet, so why not be entertained? @steve

Gilderoy said that it was a pleasure to meet her, and he complimented her on her wings. When Riley said that she was his fiancée, however, Gilderoy’s tune suddenly changed. ”Really?” he asked, seemingly stunned. “What happened with…”
Priscilla immediately glanced over at Riley but remained silent. She had a feeling that she knew what Gilderoy had been about to say, although he had caught himself before the words had come from his mouth.
“With waiting? I mean still being in school is a little young?”
It had been a quick recovery; Priscilla had to hand that to him. It was still a little young, perhaps, for them to be engaged, but they certainly weren’t the first ones to be betrothed so young. Priscilla nearly opened her mouth to comment—to save face, if anything—but listened as Gilderoy continued rambling on.
“Well, what do I know, right?” he asked. “You crazy kids do what your hearts tell you. I’ll be going, I may not be the host of this party but I should still do my rounds being the life of it and all.”
“Alright,” Priscilla nodded politely, only clenching her jaw slightly once Gilderoy had parted ways with them.
She turned her attention back to Riley. “Is he always so clueless?” she asked her fiancé, questioning Gilderoy rather than him. That conversation had been awkward, to say the least.

As far as Kinsey was concerned, her entire experiment was a failure, but not for the reason she expected. She thought that she would get to the party, become overwhelmed by all the intentions and have to leave. Instead, she was making her way towards the door because she did not want to watch her ex-boyfriend (she hated that word) with his new fiancee. She thought that maybe having to talk and interact with him the night before would make something like this much easier for her, but it hadn't. She couldn't handle it, which was why she was leaving.
At least, she wanted to leave. She fully planned on it until she heard someone saying her name. Kinsey turned around, surprised to see Gilderoy making his way toward her. She offered a small, hesitant smile, shrugging a little at him. "Well, you can't really blame me. I wasn't expecting to see ..." she almost said Riley, but held it back. "so many people here. I've never come to one of these things before." Yes, she was admitting to something that probably made her seem lame, but Kinsey was beyond caring. It was hard for her to care about someone thinking she was lame when the man she loved was standing a short distance away with the girl he was going to marry. So wrong. She pulled her attention back to Gilderoy and heard his offer. Kinsey hesitated just a moment before nodding slowly. "Okay, go ahead and teach me all the things I should know about partying," she agreed, a small smile starting to play on her face. If nothing else, Gilderoy would make this interesting, and it would help her stay, which would be good for her experiment. She could do this.

Brígh laughed. "Right, of course I would never poison you. But there's that stone thingy, just in case. What's it called? I swear Reed mentioned it in Potions class recently..." said Bri with a frown. She was pleased to find however that Eli thought the Jameson was not bad. As they made their way into the party, Bri found something that made her want to empty and refill the bottle a few times. She spotted Steve, and dashed to the other side of the room with Eli in tow. Explaining her situation, she found her cheeks reddening.
"Well, it's not as if I fancy him or anything like that. It just sort of... happened. I definitely don't fancy him!" she said, her voice squeaky. She hadn't thought about Steve since the festival, not with her mind filled with Albus. "That one over there, talking to the bitchy looking devil girl with weird stuff on her face," she murmured, keeping her eyes keenly averted. "But you are much better looking. Shame I don't fancy you either," said Bri, sticking her tongue out playfully.
Ah. So he had seen through her facade. Bri should have known. Eli did seem to have a keen eye. She was having more fun now, but she did seem a bit forced. "Well... speaking of people we do fancy... I just haven't heard from someone in rather a long time and I'm just a bit worried is all," said Bri with a frown, lowering her eyes. It was a bit painful to speak of it, but she owed Eli the truth.

Kinsey began to explain why she was leaving so soon yet paused halfway through. Gilderoy could tell why she had stopped, he had just stopped himself a few minutes ago when he was going to ask about Kinsey to Riley. Whatever was going on between the two it was too awkward to ask Riley with his fiancée there and it seemed Kinsey didn’t want to talk about it. Which was fine with Gilderoy, parties weren’t meant for possibly emotional conversations. Even if he was a little curious at just what was going one. “Yeah it’s a Lily Potter party. They normally have plenty of people coming out. I could probably get everyone out if I had one of my own but that’s planning for another time.”
Gilderoy smiled and nodded as Kinsey agreed to stay and allow him to teach her about parties. “You couldn’t ask for a better teacher.” He finally replied with a smirk, he was expecting her to still want to leave but he wasn’t about to argue on how she was agreeing so easily. “First things first, no sad faces. This is a party so only good times. Keep that smile on your face and don’t think about how many people are here or who might be here.” Gilderoy explained as if this was like an actual class." Next we can go hit the dance floor, if you want to. If not you can just watch me and my amazing moves." He laughed, even though Gilderoy did think he was a good dancing he was just having fun right now.

@katie 10.31.2024 Okay, so technically they were pretty far north. The girl had that right. His town was still further north though. At least he thought it was. Not knowing where Hogwarts was exactly on a map made it quite difficult to pinpoint. He was sure the exact coordinates were skewed by magic, just like the outside appearance of the castle and town were to no-majs. That little factoid had absolutely blown his mind. They had hidden entrances for their community, and barriers that blocked no-majs or turned them away, but nothing on this scale, not to mention the parts in London. Diagon Alley and the hospital were also pretty impressive. “Very true,” Steve finally said in agreeance, nodding his head as he did so. A quick glance around the room as he continued nodding told him that it was starting to fill up, meaning if he struck out here, there would be plenty other chances this evening. Casting a wide net was never a bad thing in his opinion.
Steve grinned at New York’s challenge. Charm her and she would tell. That was almost too easy. She clearly had never bumped into any sort of vampire before. He contemplated telling her she was already under it, but that only worked on the stupid and ditzy girls, which New York here definitely was not. There was nothing inherently wrong with those kinds, but they played into it all too easily. Steve liked to call it the placebo effect; they were already attracted to him and mentioning that he could charm them was bound to seal the deal. Sometimes there was a little extra convincing to do, but they always went for it in the end. “That’s a one-sided bet, but I’ll take you up on it,” Steve explained, reaching his hand out to her to shake it. Once she did, he would start the normal routine.

Kinsey smiled as Gilderoy started to explain a little bit about the party. The two of them weren't particularly close friends, but she was grateful to him for approaching her. She knew that he was good at having a good time and hoped he'd be able to help her enjoy this party at least a little bit. She quirked her head to the side at his comment. "Oh? So when are you planning your party? I should put it on my calendar," she teased. Though ... she'd probably go, if for no other reason than to see how it differed from Lily's party.
"I expect you to make it worth my time then," Kinsey teased with a smirk, glad she was at least smiling a little when he instructed that parties were no place for sad faces. Her smile froze a little as he mentioned all the people here, but she took a deep breath. She knew lots of people would be here. That's why she came in the first place. She chuckled as he mentioned her choices: to dance with him or watch his amazing moves. "I ... I think I'll go out with you," she said slowly, nodding once the words were out of her mouth. Yes. Dancing was definitely better. If she didn't dance, she'd watch Riley and that was definitely not what she wanted to do right now. "I'll probably need your help a little though. I haven't really been dancing before," Kinsey admitted with a helpless shrug. "So ... since you're my teacher, you're gonna help me with that, right?" She flashed a wide smile. Kinsey wanted the night to be a success, with her experiment and she also wanted to have a good time. Right now, she was just hoping that maybe her housemate would be able to help her with that.

Kinsey pointed out that if Gilderoy was going to be having a party she would need to add it to her calendar. “Oh, you totally should. I’m thinking this big valentine’s day ball. I haven’t planned much really yet but I’ll be sure you’re invited.” He explained with a smile as he was proud to speak of future plans, especially a party he was planning. The last one had been a bit stressful at times but still fun. “The whole school will be invited obviously but I’ll make sure you’re one of the first ones I send out.” Gilderoy added with a couple of laughs as in his head he wanted to imagine it being a big party. Somehow hoping to get to use the great hall but that would require the permission of the school. The great thing about the room of requirements was it decorated itself and you didn’t need as much permission of anyone.
“This is a personal course in partying from none other than me, it’ll be worth your time.” Gilderoy responded with a smile as he was aware she was probably just saying that but he could still insure that he would be helpful. Everyone should know how to at least enjoy themselves at a party. Most of it was just not worrying and having fun.
As Gilderoy explained about hitting the dance floor Kinsey said she would join him instead of watching. Which was great to hear, many people didn’t like to dance especially if they weren’t used to parties. Even more so as she explained she hadn’t really danced before. Kinsey asked if he was going to help her with that. “Of course, what kind of party instructor would I be otherwise? This is a masterclass in partying after all.” Gilderoy explained once more with a small smirk, proud that Kinsey was at least sticking around still instead of trying to leave once more. “Luckily this isn’t some formal party or anything like that. So slow dancing would be a little silly at a Halloween party.” Gilderoy laughed a bit at the idea looking toward the dance floor. “As long as you move in some fashion out there it’ll be considered dancing better than half of them right now.”

Kinsey could hardly believe how relieved she felt to be talking to Gilderoy right now. A few years ago she would have avoided him like the plague (mostly just because she felt like their personalities clashed), but lately it didn't seem that way. Last year they actually talked and she didn't feel like she had to run away and now he was saving her from her embarrassment, as well as from her strong desire to run away. She definitely owed him, though she wasn't about to say so.
She smiled as he started explaining his plans. "All right, Valentine's Day Ball, got it. I'll be there unless you lose my invite," Kinsey teased. She laughed when he said he'd make sure her invitation was one of the first out. She wasn't quite sure how much a Valentine's Ball appealed to her, but if all else failed she could probably beg Toby to come with her. That shouldn't be too hard. Hopefully.
Kinsey nodded when Gilderoy confirmed that his lessons would be good. Of course, the one thing she could be sure of with this whole thing was that Gilderoy would probably do his best to make sure they had fun. His intentions were definitely positive and she was certain that he was sincere as well. She chuckled when he said they were lucky it wasn't a formal party. "Definitely. Wouldn't be here if it was," she retorted under her breath. Yes, being around people was a good thing, but formal ... well that made it seem more like people would be asking dates rather than just going for a good time. She nodded once more as he explained that she mostly just needed to move. Kinsey glanced over at the people dancing. Some of them were moving and really getting into the music while others simply swayed from side to side with the beat. Others just stood there, talking. She looked back to Gilderoy, "I think I can do that." Kinsey was trying to be confident, but this was so far out of her comfort zone. It was weird that she was even giving this a shot. She bit the inside of her cheek before asking, "So, are we going to join them out there then?" Probably, but she really just wanted Gilderoy to lead the way so she could follow. If it was up to her, Kinsey would stay right where she was.

“If you’re that worried that I’ll lose your invite than I’ll just be sure to deliver it by hand.” Gilderoy teased right back knowing she was just joking anyway. Still maybe he should be handing the invites out in person. It was an idea that he might have to juggle around later on. It could be that little bit of Gilderoy charm that was needed for an invitation to such an amazing party. Anyway he had more important things to focus on at the moment. Like having Kinsey actually enjoy this party and not try to leave so quickly again.
Kinsey agreed claiming if this was a formal party she wouldn’t even be here. “Now formal parties aren’t so bad. A little stuffy sure but you can still have some fun. The Yule ball wasn’t terrible. I’m sure you look amazing in a formal dress. As for me of course I look great in a dress robe obviously.” Gilderoy attempted to defend formal parties, he was just the type to enjoy any get together. Any excuse to show off just who he was and to be the life of the party both formal and casual.
Kinsey claimed she could do that and attempt to dance. “Perfect, it’s not hard at all and it’s one of the few things you really don’t need to put much thought into.” Gilderoy attempted to explain and before long Kinsey asked if they were going to join them. “That’s the plan, let’s go.” He smirked for a moment before making his way toward the dance floor, which was just an open spot in the room. While making sure Kinsey was right behind him he didn’t go too far in to the group. Not wanting to be surrounded by the few just flailing around. Gilderoy kept his movements small and simple, this wasn’t about him showing off which was hard at time with how amazing he was but he as being a teacher at the moment. Just hoping Kinsey was actually having a good time. “See, it’s not that hard.”

"All right. I'll be expecting sometime mid-January, just so you know," Kinsey shot back, still smiling. It was weird, having a silly conversation with Gilderoy like this. She couldn't remember what they talked about the last time they actually talked with one another, but it was probably something more serious than this. Right now ... well they were just being ridiculous. It was kind of nice though. A good distraction, definitely. Kinsey might need to remember that Gilderoy was good at distractions, though if she used him too much she figured she'd have to explain why eventually ... unless Riley already had.
Gilderoy started to defend formal parties and Kinsey shrugged. Honestly she couldn't "technically" have an opinion about formal parties since she'd never been to one of those either, but still. She blushed slightly when Gilderoy said she'd look amazing in a dress, who knew why- and then tried to change the subject. "Wait ... are you defending formal parties because that's what your Valentine's one is?" she asked with arched eyebrows. Granted, she might still come, but the idea of having to dress up for something made Kinsey nervous, and that didn't even have anything to do with the idea that lots of students would go to a formal party. There would be even more intentions to deal with in that kind of a situation, though she was actually doing pretty well right now.
Kinsey nodded when Gilderoy insisted that dancing wasn't hard or complicated, that it sort of came naturally and Kinsey followed him as he moved to an open spot. It wasn't in the center of the room, which she was definitely grateful for, but it was much closer to people than she normally would have gone. Gilderoy started to dance and Kinsey started too. She wasn't going crazy like some of the people out there, but she still felt self-conscious. Still, her dancing wasn't too different from Gilderoy's. She nodded when he said it wasn't that difficult, but she wouldn't be surprised if he'd be able to see the tension from her expression. "This isn't that bad," she said after a moment, chuckling at how negative that sounded. "Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like that." Kinsey tried to get herself to relax, but it was a little more difficult than she expected. At least she didn't feel like she needed to run away still, that was definitely the positive note to her dancing. Movement made her feel less jumpy, even if she did feel a bit self-conscious still.
