Daniel had started to realize the mistake he had made was he wandered the party. Everyone was dressed as an angel or devil if they were in costume. Some didn’t come in costume at all which was probably what he should have done instead. Sadly he hadn’t heard the part of it being angel and demon themed. While he felt a little silly being dressed as a pirate now there wasn’t anything he could do about it. No one had outright come up to him and said anything about what he was wearing so that was a plus. Still it was a nice enough party, it reminded him of the one Lily held during the Tri-wizard tournament. Possibly the first thing he had bothered to try and do that was social since he had moved here last year.
His wandering the party was stopped by a voice as he looked over to where it came from. What he found was a familiar looking girl, which usually meant they were a Gryffindor. Fellow Gryffindors were the only ones who felt familiar enough to him where he felt he should have known their name but didn’t. “Are you offering or just showing off?” Daniel replied with a small laugh to her question if he had some of the punch yet he could only assume. “Gryffindor, right?"

“Yes, please keep your calendar open, it’s going to be the party year, unless there is an end of the school year one. I can imagine that actually being even bigger.” It was the only think Gilderoy could imagine that would compare. It was the end of the school year and people cut loose no matter what. It was harder to get in trouble when school was literally over in days, especially if you were in your last year. “I might plan that too unless Lily beats me to it.” Gilderoy laughed but there was a chance that could happen. Lily did love her parties just as much as Gilderoy probably did even if he only recently started to plan his own. He found the appeal after the beach party in planning them.
Kinsey asked if he was defending formal parties just because he might be throwing one. “Honestly I don’t know, I have plans for so many things in my head it’s hard to tell what the party will actually be at this point besides a valentines party.” Gilderoy attempted to explain as it was true, he just had too many good ideas at the moment. “Right now the idea I have is a masquerade type thing. Charmed masks, possibly formal-ish.” Possibly it was too early to even be going into his ideas, these were just bare-bones plans at the moment. “That’s the curse of just having too many good ideas I suppose.”
While they danced Gilderoy kept his moments similar to Kinsey’s in a way. He could tell she was still possibly a little nervous about dancing from her face but at least she was trying it. That was something in its self if this was her first time dancing. Kinsey commented how this wasn’t so bad before laughing and apologizing for the way that came out. “I’ll take not so bad. It’s still better than you running out the door.” Gilderoy teased for a moment, the first time doing anything wasn’t always the most relaxing experience but Kinsey still seemed to be having fun. "You’re not doing bad for this being your first time dancing either. Plenty of people spend a lot of time doing what they call dancing and still look like they’re just flailing around.”

"All right, I'll wait to make any plans until I get my invite," Kinsey promised, smiling as she shook her head. "And I'll just have to see what happens at the end of the year too." After tonight, Kinsey actually figured she would go to those sorts of things. Her ability wasn't overwhelming her and she was actually having a pretty enjoyable time with Gilderoy. Almost enough to make her forget ... but not entirely. At least her back was to Riley and his fiancee. She wouldn't be able to look at him even if she wanted to ... which he didn't. Kinsey shrugged when Gilderoy said he might plan the end of year one, "Weeeeeell, it is the last party we'll have at Hogwarts. Do you really want Lily to be in charge of it?" she teased. Obviously, Lily planned good parties, as evidenced by the party they were both attending right now. Mostly, Kinsey was just enjoying the chance to relax and enjoy herself without worrying.
"Now I'm excited to see what you come up with," Kinsey admitted. She couldn't imagine planning a party for a bunch of people, much less for the school. She'd probably get too stressed out to know what to do. Then she wouldn't enjoy a second of it because she'd be worried about whether or not people were enjoying it. Yeah ... it was probably better for her to simply attend parties. That was asking quite a lot anyway. Her eyes widened a bit when he mentioned his idea about a masquerade. "That sounds ... actually that sounds like it would be a lot of fun. We haven't done anything like that before, have we?" A masked ball was kind of intimidating, since you wouldn't know who you were dealing with, but with Kinsey's gift she'd be able to avoid anyone bad so it did actually sound like fun.
Kinsey smiled and nodded as Gilderoy teased her about her earlier attempt to flee. "I ... get stressed when lots of people are around." Sure, that was an acceptable explanation. Not entirely accurate, since the real reason she tried to leave was Riley, but she wasn't going to come out and say that. "But I'm glad you stopped me." She laughed softly at his compliment, "Thanks. Maybe someday it'll feel normal. We'll see if I feel comfortable dancing at your Valentine thing." At least she wasn't flailing around ... though Kinsey wasn't entirely sure Gilderoy would tell her if she was. He was trying to make sure she was having a good time, which was very nice of him, even though she never would have expected him to do something like this.

Gilderoy returned a smile as Kinsey said she would hold off any plans until she got her invite to his party. “That’s for the best. It’s hard to know what’s really going to happen.” Gilderoy explained pausing for a moment. “There is just so much to work out and plan but I’m going to make sure it’ll be big.” He laughed as if he was kidding but really he wasn’t. He had hopes and dreams it would be something this school would remember for sometime. He had to leave his mark on this school somehow. Giving future parties something to top might be just that. Kinsey teased about allowing Lily to plan the end of the school year party. “You have a point. You know what they say, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.”
“Whatever it is I can guarantee it’ll be great.” He replied, still unsure what he might plan or what idea to go with but he was Gilderoy after all. If anyone could go all out when they needed to it would be him. Kinsey explained how his masquerade ball idea sounded like fun and he just nodded followed by her asking if anything like that has ever happened. “As far as I know this would be the first time it ever did. I’m thinking it’ll be great, sure you don’t know who you’re talking to besides vague details, height and gender stuff like that. Aside from that it’s a mystery, the masks when charmed should be able to keep people from figuring it out.” Gilderoy explained, he realized moments later that he would have to figure out how to get all that to actually work but he could ask the charms professor if need be. “At the same time they won’t know who you are either, freedom to just be yourself and no worries. It should make for a pretty amazing party.” Gilderoy said proud of himself for having such an amazing idea but if anyone would have that idea it should be him.
Gilderoy accepted her reason for trying to leave so early, he wasn’t about to dig any deeper right now also. Still he felt it had something more to do with Riley and his surprisingly new fiancée running around. That wasn’t something he had expect to see either. Still like Gilderoy had said a party was no time for sad thoughts or for him to bring up the topic. “I can understand that, I wasn’t always so outgoing when I was younger. Believe it or not my first few years at Hogwarts we’re pretty awkward.” It wasn’t an embarrassing story as it didn’t go into any details, still people had seemed to forget his earlier years of being quieter and far more shy compared to the man he was now. “Well what are friends for if they aren’t going to drag you back into a party.” Gilderoy teased, unsure if friends was the right word for Kinsey and him as they hadn’t really talked much but he liked to think so. At the very least he couldn’t allow a housemate to just leave and presumably have a worse time alone in the common room or girls dorm.
“Don’t worry about dancing if you don’t want to, so long as you show up. I’d even ask you to dance again if you’d like.” He offered for a moment before realizing something. “Yet if we have the masks I probably won’t know who you are. I guess I’ll just have to dance with all the pretty girls just to be safe, life is hard when you're me but I’ll survive.”

Kinsey laughed with Gilderoy, not at all surprised when he started to talk about how much work it would be to plan the party. He sounded so excited about it though, so she knew he wasn't complaining. "I'm sure you'll get it all figured out," she encouraged him honestly. With his enthusiasm and determination, she was sure he'd figure something out.
When she mentioned how the masquerade sounded like fun, Gilderoy seemed to warm to the subject. "It sounds really interesting, especially with that charm to make it so no one knows who they're talking to." Kinsey thought about it for a moment, "Unless you came with someone, I suppose ... but even then it could be easy to lose them," she giggled a little at the thought. If that was what happened, she wouldn't need to go with Toby. No one would know who she was anyway. "I think you should do it." Not that Kinsey thought Gilderoy would make his decision based on her opinion, but she might as well give it since he was explaining everything to her. Besides, that would be a one-in-a-kind party.
Gilderoy said that he hadn't always been outgoing and Kinsey's eyebrows furrowed back as she tried to remember. Honestly, she couldn't. She'd been so focused on herself and her gift when she first came to Hogwarts, she didn't pay attention to hardly any of her fellow students. It wasn't really a surprise to her that she couldn't remember that Gilderoy used to be shy. "Really? I ... I guess I didn't really pay attention back then," she admitted, a little bit embarrassed. She laughed when he talked about him "dragging" her back into the party because they were friends. "Well, I guess you're a pretty good friend then. I've enjoyed this so far." Kinsey might as well be honest with him, since Gilderoy basically saved her from having a lonely, sad night.
She grinned when the conversation turned back to the dance he was planning. "Oh really? Wow, I feel honored that you'd dance with everyone just to make sure I get a dance. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for someone who's dancing with everyone, then I can thank you in the moment." Kinsey chuckled, surprised yet again by how easy it was to talk to Gilderoy right now.

He agreed with her, haphazardly it seemed, as he looked around. She glanced around too, taking in the room and the fact that she barely knew anyone. That was fine with her, of course, but it was also kind of irritating because she couldn't really make comments about people if she didn't know their names. That was her doing for not really bothering to learn a lot of the Hogwarts students names. The original Hogwarts students, obviously, not the American transfers. She didn't consider them 'Hogwarts students'. He grinned as she challenged him and she simply raised an eyebrow back. She wasn't much for grinning for any reason, it wasn't like she was going to do that much with this guy. He called out that it was a one-sided bet, but still agreed to it. He reached his hand out and she reached hers back, clasping his hand hard in order to shake it. It wasn't a 'firm and steady' handshake, no, but more like a bone-crushing one. "Do your best," she said again, tilting her head to the side a little before releasing his hand. "I suppose you'll start with a drink?" she suggested, nodding toward the table. @steve

At the pirates question she grinned. He was American, clearly, which was always fun. "A little bit of both," she said, holding her cup out to him. "Yes, Gryffindor. New this year. Transferred from my home of Canada," she gave a short bow and let her slight French Quebecois accent come through. She could easily just speak without any french influence at all, but she liked the way it made her voice sound and she knew, better than most, how soothing a French accent was. With the Canadian twist it was a bit different, but it still worked to her favor. "You're a Gryffindor as well," she noted confidently. @crimson1

@katie 10.31.2024 New York was asking for it. She wasn’t going to know what hit her once the allurement charm started taking effect. The only difference between her and the girls he normally used it on was that she was going to be aware of it, or at least know what he was going to start it at some point. When they were aware, Steve preferred misleading them, making it seem like it came from a slight touch to the cheek, or a brush of his hand against theirs. Maybe even from staring into their eyes for a second longer than one normally would. While all of those could be the trigger, he liked building it up if they allowed him the time to do so. New York had the propensity for being his most difficult one yet, if her brash attitude and demeanor had been any indication thus far. “Don’t worry about me,” he said as she shook his hand, making sure to look her directly in the eyes. Step one was now under way.
The next part to it was to follow her over to the drink table. Steve nodded his head in response and started over towards it. There were a lot of intricacies to the charm that he had yet to maneuver, though he was sure he would figure them out with time. “Let’s see what we have here…” he tapped his fingers along the table before grabbing two cups and expertly scooping the punch from the bowl into them, extending one out for New York. “I wouldn’t be surprised if someone already spiked it,” he mused as he took a sip. Yup. In the short time since he had entered the party and gotten his first drink, some genius had poured at least a handle of whiskey into it, if not more. There was no masking the burn of alcohol either, it was right out there in the open. “Can’t say it’s to my liking, but it could be worse.”

Gilderoy appreciated the encouragement from Kinsey, he didn’t need it to keep him motivated and while he trusted how great he was to be able to pull a party off. It was still good to hear from someone else that they were sure of him. “Thank, I’m just going to sit down one day and get all these different thoughts in order. It’ll make things easier if I can just pick something to work on than have a billion ideas floating around at once.”
Kinsey explained how the party sounded interesting with the masks and them being charmed. Also that the only way someone would know who the other was, was if they came to the party together. “Yeah or if the person decides to leave the party with the other. That’ll make for some interesting stories or rumors.” Gilderoy mused for a moment but could see it happening, parties were a hot bed for rumors already. That’s just the nature of so many people getting together. “I’ll remember that if it doesn’t go well,” he paused for a moment to laugh as Kinsey told him he should do the masquerade party. “Don’t blame me, Kinsey said I should to it.” Gilderoy teased for a moment, like he could blame her for this idea somehow if something bad happened.
While Gilderoy wasn’t completely embarrassed of the way he used to be he was glad to hear that Kinsey didn’t remember him from back that far. He didn’t blame her either, he was just a quiet kid back then and they didn’t really talk to each other as far as he could remember. “Don’t worry about it, you didn’t miss much.” He joked as he didn’t have a problem with no one remember that either. He was an amazing person now and that was really all that mattered anyway and he would only get better. Kinsey said he was a pretty good friend for bringing her back to the party and that she was enjoying it so far. “That’s what I’m here for, now next time you want to run away from a party just come find me first.” Gilderoy replied hoping she would do just that if she ever felt like she had to run from a party for whatever reason it might be next time. “Don’t make me come looking because like a said, a friend will drag you back. Figuratively or literally.” Gilderoy laughed after that as he was only teasing. If she wasn’t in the mood for a party that’s just how it was and he wouldn't force her but he could attempt to convince her it would be fun.
Kinsey explained how she would feel honored if he was going to dance with so many people just to dance with her. “Honestly it might be easier for you to find me at a certain point. I’ll be the one who looks completely exhausted from dancing with everyone.” He laughed but if he planned to dance with every girl at the party me might just end up dropping dead.

Daniel laughed for a moment as the girl responded, her answer seemed fitting and she held up her drink to him. “Well I can think of worse ways to end up getting poisoned than by sharing a drink with a pretty girl.” Daniel said with a laugh, it would be an awkward way to go and as far as he knew no one would have a reason to kill him anyway. He took the cup and had a quick sip as she confirmed that she was indeed a Gryffindor, that she was a transfer but not from Ilvermorny but from Canada. He would have thought from France possibly from the accent but remembered parts of Canada still spoke French mainly. She gave a small bow and Daniel smirked for a moment. “Well enchanté and welcome to Hogwarts.” Daniel replied using one of the few French words he actually knew. “You’re not alone as you have all of Ilvermorny coming here this year.” He explained while glad to say it also. He missed most if not all of the people from Ilvermorny. Hell on certain days last year he might have even said he missed Katherine. “Indeed, the houses here are whatever really but at least the common room as a decent view.” No matter what house Hogwarts or their hat might have put him in, Daniel always considered himself a Thunderbird. “My names Daniel by the way.”

Gilderoy started to explain that he wanted to sit down and write out all his ideas and Kinsey found herself nodding yet again. "I think that'll probably help you figure out which ideas you really want to do and which ones you don't." His plan on how to figure it out sounded pretty good to Kinsey.
"Oooh good point. Leaving together would give it away too." Kinsey laughed, still thinking of the possibilities. It would definitely be an interesting party, if he chose to make it that way. In all honesty, Kinsey was really interested to see what he decided to do. "I'm pretty sure there are going to be stories and rumors no matter what." Weren't there always? There might even be stories tomorrow about her and Gilderoy, but Kinsey didn't really care. She was just relieved that he was helping her enjoy herself. She laughed again when he teased her about blaming her if it wasn't a good party. "Yeah ... Kinsey who? No one will know who you're talking about. I'll have you know, not many people know who I am. I'm not popular like you." She wasn't saying that in a bad way. Kinsey was perfectly content not drawing lots of attention to herself.
She smiled when Gilderoy told her to come look for him the next time she wanted to run from a party. "I'll keep that in mind. At least I'll know that you'll make it fun." Kinsey started to laugh when he warned her to not make him come looking. "Okay okay. I'll make sure I come find you before running from any parties," she agreed. She didn't think he was entirely serious, but at the same time she appreciated his offer. Kinsey was hoping that she'd be able to go to more parties and actually enjoy herself without having to look for someone to save her, but it was nice to have that reassurance just in case.
Honestly, the idea of him dancing with everyone just to find her and dance with her was laughable, but once again Kinsey appreciated it. "I'll keep an eye out for someone that's exhausted and dancing a lot with lots of people then." She paused for a second and then continued, "Maybe we should come up with a code work we can mention to all the people we dance with so that once you've danced with me you know you don't have to keep on dancing with everyone," Kinsey teased. The idea sounded like an interesting one though. She was willing to come up with something if he was.

Gilderoy laughed slightly as Kinsey admit he had a good point about people leaving together. “I can’t help if people want to ruin the mystery there but who knows what connections might be made when you don’t know who’s who.” Gilderoy explained as he felt that people figuring out who the other was if they left together wouldn’t be such a bad thing. It might end up being awkward if it ended up being someone they had disliked before but those would be amazing stories. “Yeah there isn’t much one can do about the rumors besides either ignoring them or encourage them just for some fun.” Something Gilderoy knew well about as he got increasingly popular, people loved to talk and he would be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy it at times. Kinsey claimed that no one would know who she was even if Gilderoy had blamed her for something. “Non-sense. While I’ll agree that you might not be as well known as me, plenty of people know who you are. If you’d like I can expand my party class to a being known all through out school class. Granted that can be a good and bad thing at times.” Gilderoy teasing as he was just kidding for a moment, fully doubting Kinsey would take him seriously here.
Kinsey claimed she would keep him in mind if she was about to leave any party early for reasons left unsaid. That he could also make it fun. As he had teased a warning about her not making him come looking for her she just laughed and agreed to look for him first. “That’s good, that goes for anything really not just parties besides the dragging you back part.” He explained as he did enjoy being there for people, something about being a person someone could count spoke to him. Possibly that people would just come to him when they needed to because who was better in to someone in need than himself.
He laughed as Kinsey claimed she would look out for an exhausted person dancing with everyone. Honestly that sounded like the perfect description for him if he attempted to dance with everyone. Even if he hadn’t been trying to dance with her it would possibly sound like him anyway. Gilderoy laughed for a moment again as she mentioned them coming up with a code word they could use to figure out if it was each other. “That could work actually, might save me from collapsing on the dance floor. Doesn’t help that our student body almost doubled this year.” Gilderoy agreed with her code word plan. “I would say we could just arrive at the same time but since it’s my own party I should probably be there first. Being fashionable late doesn’t work in that scenario.”

Kinsey laughed when Gilderoy explained that he couldn't help it if people chose to ruin the mystery. "Good point. I think personally the mystery would help me feel much more comfortable at something like that." Yeah, she'd like it if people couldn't tell who she was. Her only worry would be running into Riley, but even if she did there was no way for him to know or for her to know, so it would be fine. She nodded, chuckling as Gilderoy mentioned that there wasn't much that could be done about rumors. It was true. Then she rolled her eyes when he said that plenty of people knew who she was. She made a face, "Sorry Gilderoy, I don't think my siblings and their friends count as plenty of people," she teased, talking herself down. "And I guess I'll include the Ravenclaws in our year. Other than that, I'm pretty good at hiding in the shadows." Kinsey knew he was teasing and merely rolled her eyes at him as he continued, talking about expanding his party.
Kinsey nodded when Gilderoy said his offer was for more than just parties, basically for whenever she needed someone. "Thanks Gilderoy. I'll keep that in mind," Kinsey promised. She appreciated the fact that he was actually telling her she could come to him if she needed someone.
Kinsey smiled when Gilderoy agreed with her idea, adding that she could just come with him. She made a face, "I'm not sure if I want to be there first ... I'd have to think about that." She was kind of teasing, but she was also nervous about arriving at a party first. She normally liked to slip in later when fewer people would notice her. "So is that a no to the code or are we just going to figure that out before the actual event?" Yes, Kinsey was actually still teasing him, which was kind of a surprise, but not at the same time. She felt more comfortable talking with Gilderoy than she ever expected to feel. It was strange ... but in a good way. Weird.

He told her not to worry about him, in reference to the difficulty of his challenge. He looked straight into her eyes and... well, that was odd. She couldn't look away. Sure they were nice eyes, but that wasn't anything she hadn't seen before. Still... they were pretty nice. She shook her head when he broke eye contact, clearing her mind before they moved to the drink table. He assessed them, taking two cups and scooping from the punch bowl. She took the one he extended, taking a sip as he did. She could tell by the taste, it was definitely spiked. She didn't mind alcohol, but she preferred her brain not to be addled most of the time. But at a party where she was in some sort of flirtation challenge with a strange boy? That was the perfect time to drink, wasn't it? She nodded at his assessment of the drink. "The flavor is a bit juvenile," she concluded. Just a simple punch spiked with simple alcohol, nothing interesting. Her eyes did a mini sweep around the room, lingering on the door, and then looking back at Steve. Still no Lance. "Cheers," she added, lifting her cup to him before downing the rest of the contents. @steve

He laughed, saying there were worse ways to get poisoned than by sharing a drink with a 'pretty girl'. She grinned, bowing her head just a little to try and feign a slight sense of embarrassment, even though that was completely fabricated. He took a sip and she lifted her chin again, "see? No poison. A pretty girl like me wouldn't do that to a hunk like you," she countered. He welcomed her to Hogwarts, using the French 'enchanté', which made her smile. He mentioned the Ilvermorny students and she nodded. "I'll admit, I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't be the talk of the school as the 'new transfer'," she admitted.
