The scritch-scratch of the dog’s paw against Mina’s bedroom door woke her up. Titania, the poor thing, needed to be let out. Callisto normally would have done it, but Mina was positive her sister had the weekend shift at the hospital. Her eye lids were heavy with sleep and the dim morning light coming through the shades was already activating her headache. Waking up and immediately feeling the effects of the hangover meant this was going to be an absolutely lovely day. Aside from having trouble opening her eyes, rolling out of bed to take care of the dog was almost impossible with the burly arm of the man she had brought home last night wrapped around her. Mina had almost forgotten about that. It had been a while since she had done that, mostly because work the next morning always seemed to get in the way. She could deal with a hangover while running the cash register; trying to shoo a one-night stand out of her apartment at 5am when she was already late though? Even she wasn’t that willing to lose her job over a slam piece. Those would always be available to her if she stayed out long enough, while finding a job to take her on, did not.
Sliding under the dead-weight of the guy’s arm, Mina hit the ground and lazily waddled over to a pile of clothes laying on the floor, her dog meeting her half way to let out another whine that it needed to be let out. “Hold on,” Mina hissed in a whisper, trying not to wake…what was his name again? She decided it didn’t matter as she slid on the jeans and shirt she had on from the night before, quickly sneaking out of her bedroom and down the hallway towards the front door, her Samoyed right on her heels. There wasn’t time to throw a jacket on either, Mina efficiently snapping the leash around Titania’s collar and running her outside as quickly as possible. Callisto was already going to be irked about there being a ‘guest’ in the apartment, if she didn’t know already – but that would be the icing on top if the dog made a mess on the carpet. Merlin knows there had been dozens of conversations about that one already.
A walk ‘round the block and a smoke or two later, they were back inside, both happy that there weren’t going to be any more problems for a while. Back turned to the rest of the apartment as she pulled her shoes off, Titania pulled on her leash, doing a loop around Mina’s legs in wiggled excitement. Someone was obviously standing behind her. Probably the dude that was in her bed, if she had to take a guess. He was the only other person in the apartment other than herself. “Sorry if I woke you. Had to take the dog out.”
